today we welcome the mourner to nowhere. it has been an especially quiet year for the nomad has been doing what it does best, but with grace asleep perhaps things will fall back to place.
the mourner spends her days in a daze. she climbs stairs, breaks into tears then forgets why the stairs and her tears were there in the first place. weird bird saw her once, body huddled over the steps. if it had known what speech means, perhaps it would try to say that she vaguely resembled a mangled spider, getting by on broken legs and flailing limbs.

ive been wanting to rework this old OC idea i'd had of an apprentice for juneau and i finally got arount to at least dabbling in the concept :'V (for my headworld Tenebres which is like magic and monsters)
Agnes is a young mage in a prestigious magic school, top of her class, snooty, bit of a perfectionist etc. everyone knows she's destined for greatness. until she finds out she's a familiar during one of her big exams when she begins to sprout long white ears and turns into a rabbit in front of her professors and peers. she's humiliated and gets expelled because of her condition (familiars arent allowed to pursue advanced magic). in her determination to rise back up to the top and prove herself worthy, she tries seeking out anyone that would take a familiar under their wing to train; she finds this to be rather difficult.
somehow or another juneau and agnes stumble upon each other, juneau was once a professor at the school agnes was attending. juneau's reputation was tarnished because she'd experiment by casting curses on herself, one of those curses turns into a ravenous beast sometimes lol idiot which is not only unsafe for students, but her unconventional methods are kinda embarrassing and cringe and the school didnt want to be associated with her no more. she now lives in hiding with another professor, ethel (need to overhaul redesign her lol) who's also turned permanently into a monster due to an accident with brewing a cauldron. anywayyyyy juneau works as a plague doctor (considered to be "janitorial work" for magefolk), doing what she loves which is magic removal. juneau and ethel agree to take on agnes as a student (mostly because they both miss teaching).
not people in the notes of that damn sparrow video lecturing me on how sparrows are an invasive species 😭 bro this is england they literally come from here
Being female does appear to protect the brain from many developmental disabilities, not just autism. There is emerging evidence that girls with autism need more extreme genetic mutations than boys to develop autism.
However, there is a growing body of work that indicates that autism just presents differently in girls and therefore often goes unrecognised, especially in verbally fluent girls with normal intelligence. Girls with autism also appear to be better at ‘camouflaging’ their symptoms in order to fit in.
With the diagnostic criteria for ASD based largely in how autism presents in males, girls can often ‘slip under the radar’ or get misdiagnosed. Girls with ASD seem to have less restricted and repetitive behaviours than boys, but it’s also possible that some of these behaviours go unrecognised — for example, an obsessive interest in collecting dolls may be misinterpreted as pretend play.
What does autism look like in girls?
Although every child with autism is different, here are some common characteristics in girls with autism:
A special interest in animals, music, art, and literature
A strong imagination (might escape into the worlds of nature or fiction)
A desire to arrange and organise objects
Not wanting to play cooperatively with female peers (for example, wanting to dictate the rules of play or preferring to play alone to maintain control)
A tendency to ‘mimic’ others in social situations in order to blend in
An ability to hold their emotions in check at school, but be prone to meltdowns or explosive behaviour at home
Strong sensory sensitivities, especially to sounds and touch (for example; clothing tags, socks or even deodorant).
For autistic girls to thrive, it’s important they have access to a timely and accurate diagnosis, and the informed supports that come with it. A delayed or missed diagnosis can impede their education and development, as well as their social and community participation.
While boys with autism are more likely to have outwardly challenging behaviours, (indicating underlying issues, such as anxiety) girls with autism are more vulnerable to internalising problems.
As our understanding of how autism affects females is still emerging, it is important parents and professionals alike stay updated on the best ways to specifically support girls and women on the spectrum."
another funeral in my garden today. a baby wood pigeon was being chased by a hawk and flew into the kitchen window, it was left stunned and succumbed to internal injuries. it was being fed by one of its parents yesterday, newly fledged
very very blurry. was taking pictures of the trailing plants on the floor when i looked up and saw a buzzard (!!!) swoop by and immediately snapped the shutter like crazy. you can kinda make it out. centre in the first, to the left in the second
