One of my favorite tropes in bkdk plays into the fact that Izuku is, first and foremost, a goddamn otaku.

And this isn't focused on his nerding out over any and all Dynamight merchandise (though that is part of it), but that Izuku is a socially awkward clueless MESS who inwardly cheered the first time he spoke to a girl on the phone.

Izuku has no clue what he's doing when it comes to romance. He's gonna stutter and fumble over everything. He's going to miss so many cues. He's gonna be panicking at 2am to Kaminari and Kirishima, over whether or not Kacchan would appreciate a bouquet of flowers. He's going to end up giving Kacchan a lego bouquet instead. He's gonna feel like a perv anytime his thoughts turn anywhere slightly indecent towards Kacchan. He'll be even more enthralled by Kacchan than ever before. He's going to think a Matrix movie marathon counts as a date (to his luck, with Kacchan, it will.) He's going to inadvertently do the most heart-felt, romantic, suave things when he's not even trying.

Look. Basically he is just going to be like every graceless but well-intentioned nerdy boy in his first relationship. And to his saving grace, he'll be dating a boy just as socially awkward as him - but in a different flavor.

I woke up thinking about vestige Katsuki casually having a chat with vestige All Might. WHAT THE DUCK was happening there if not something seriously fruity and why did we not circle back to it once we’d got over the fact that his heart had exploded?!

What must non-bkdks think is going on? I’m not even sure if we’ve fully discussed what is going on? Whyyy would he have a vestige if he doesn’t have OFA?

It’s not ghosts because a) ghosts haven’t been introduced as a concept in-universe and b) AM is there and he ain’t dead.

SO WHAT IS HAPPENING? Did we just totally overlook the fact that Hori made it canon that Katsuki either has OFA or just has access to the vestige realm for reasons unknown?

Also why is he fully clothed and able to speak, when poor Izuku spent every vestige scene nude and mute? And why is the background white not black? Vestige purgatory? A vestige waiting room?

I feel like when you suddenly realise you haven’t studied and the class has all moved on to new topics and you’ve somehow missed a key, fundamental part of how The Whole Thing works.

If anyone has meta on this please point me towards it because at this point I’m—

Being a bkdk is insane like for the month of April we have so many bkdk moments, merchs, contents etc.. 😭

We are so blessed and this is the first time I ever feel this way. I do have some ships and I only have crumbs with it. Never even thought of it being canon but BKDK is just built different. How many arts do we have already with them? The light novels, the Manga extras, the movies, the stage play, so many merchs and the Anime! I've been shipping them since late 2019 and I've been so lielow about it and just happy for the little contents back then. Then almost five years later all the amount of contents featuring them is making me crazy. Like I want to believe it will be 100% canon. Horikoshi sensei is just amazing. I'm not even moved on from the recent events of the Manga, the shoujo like cover of them smiling happily and now the memories 😭

I'm so glad that this filler-canon is there cause it really makes sense. I know Izuku weakness is Katsuki but watching it makes my heart bleed. He cannot even hurt Katsuki.

He is already traumatized and now the upcoming angst 😭💔

Being a bkdk is a roller-coaster ride. The emotional ride with them and how much I love them seeing them grow together 🥹

Also being with the Fandom is an unforgettable and amazing experience. No matter how many antis hate us, I don't care. I love being a bkdk and the ship will forever be in my heart whenever it will be Canon or not 💚🧡💚🧡

I figured out one of the (many) reasons that bkdk is so much more compelling (to me) than other non-canon (read: gay) anime ships:

There’s a reason bkdk can’t be together (yet).

Think of any good romance book, movie, or play. There’s always some reason — external, internal, or both — that the couple cannot be together. That conflict is what makes it compelling. If there was nothing keeping them apart, they’d kiss and confess in the first 1/3 of the story and that’d be it.

Other popular ships are often best friends who express their friendship passionately. That’s great, but what’s stopping them from kissing? It can only be their own fears and misjudgments, hence the popularity of the Idiots to Lovers tag.

But bkdk? Their conflict is internal and external. First, they couldn’t be together because of Katsuki’s guilt, and now there is a war between them. We watched their relationship change and grow and their internal conflict all but resolve, and now there’s only the external conflict left. It’s riveting.

I have an issue with the "the giga cover is likely fujobait" because I can't help but think:

if it was truly fujobait, why now?

Why try to get their attention if MHA is now in the 100M club? The series now so popular, hori/jump doesn't need queer shippers to increase its popularity.

Why try to get fujos and queer fans, if it's already popular in that group? Wasn't it apparently shown that MHA is more popular with women and LGBTQ+ fans?

Why try to get that audience when hori had the chance to do that back in 2016-2018 when Kr//bk was the popular gay ship? Wasn't there an interview where someone pretty much asked hori if he's for kr//bk, but instead of playing along, hori made it about bkdk (the ship that no one took seriously at the time) and said he saw the hand hold more about bkdk angst. Kr//bk was a popular ship, it had bones making official art of them. The smash parody manga had moments of it. Two heroes was their movie [I believe hori didn't really help in that movie. However, notice how in the second movie, (he was a part of that one), focused on bkdk (again, the ship no one took seriously)]. Hori had the ability to use that ship as bait, but he seemed to be the only one out of everyone else to not go for it. Instead he kept pushing for the ship that was thought to be too toxic to even become a platonic ship.

If horikoshi did not want bkdk to seen as romantic, why isn't he stopping jump for implying it? You really can't say that he has no ability to, the guy went to bones and told them the ending. Now, notice how bones suddenly stopped making iz//ch moments and added a bkdk moment in the recap episodes (something that they would never do 2 seasons prior). The assistant (whom hori is friends with) is a loud speaker of dkbk lol. Hori follows him on twitter, there's no way that hori hasn't seen his dkbk art once. Same for katsuki's JP VA (who is also a friend of Hori).

Why try to bait the audience when the manga is ending?

Idk, maybe there's a chance he is actually queerbaiting and make iz//ch canon, but again, after everything?

After the togachako arc? He had made ochako confess her crush on midoriya, only for seconds later to not only brush it off as unimportant (unimportant in the sense of it was more of way to relate to toga and speak with her, it wasn't really used as a "canon izu//ocha" moment), she tells toga that she could have ochako's blood for the rest of her life (and we know that's toga's love language of returning/accepting her feelings) and she told toga that she had the cutest smile in the whole world. Like, didn't hori say that toga was made for ochako's character? I feel like it wouldn't make sense for hori to do all of this, then have ochako end up with midoriya, it would feel like a middle finger to toga tbh.

After chapters 285, 322, 362, 367, 403, and 404? The apology? The "you're the closest one to midoriya izuku, therefore I need to kill you in order to make him go crazy". The heart shaped black whip after seeing bakugou's dying body? The "their feelings became one" double spread? this bullet point could be spread to about 2-3 document pages, but I'm just going to summarize for this post lol. But overall, these chapters (and a few more), show me (imo) that it the "fujobait" claim isn't really strong to use against bkdk.

Again, maybe this is queerbait, because I know that there are times where other media/anime have done simliar and still had the MC in a heterosexual relationship, and leave everyone dumbfounded lol. Once again, all I say to this is "let's see what happens."

P.S. Isn't this the same author who said that he thought that naruto was going to end at 698 (the implied SNS ending) lol? Idk if it's true, that's just something I've heard.

So. In light of recent chapters, I've seen a lot of people saying that Izuku is going to permanently lose OFA. While this is a deliciously angsty concept, I disagree with them on it being canon. So here's my evidence for "bkdk are going to be dual holders you idiots".

First, the obvious - Heroes: Rising. With the movie now confirmed to be canon, this means that Izuku has not only canonically transferred OFA and gotten it back, he has done so with Katsuki specifically.

Now, the reason Izuku keeps OFA in that instance is, according to All Might, that Katsuki passed out before the transfer could be complete. However, this answer has always bugged me - why in the world would it work like that? How long does a transfer take, anyway? How long do you have to stay awake? Here's my proposal - All Might was wrong. But I'm going to put a pin in that for now, and return to it later with more evidence.

Next, these two illustrations for the Fantasy AU.

The image on the left depicts All Might wielding a large sword - a representation of One For All. In the image on the right, the sword has changed hands. And who has it, now?

Izuku, yes, but not just Izuku. The sword has been split. And it's none other than Katsuki Bakugou who holds the other half. This is a motif shown more than once in official art and manga panels - something representing One For All being split or shared between Izuku and Katsuki. I'll touch on that more in a moment.

Dual wielders.

Our third piece of evidence is the whole "win to save, save to win" motif.

Not only are Izuku and Katsuki fundamentally a pair, they are the thing that completes each other and pushes the other to be their best. Win to save and save to win, two halves of a true hero. Without each other, they cannot become the "ultimate heroes". They do their best work together.

For our fourth piece of evidence, I bring you this set of panels from Katsuki's revival chapter.

Note the bottom panel in the first image, specifically - Toshinori standing in the background, holding a glowing ball, and little Izuku and Katsuki holding matching glowing balls in the front. The next panel reveals the All Might trading cards they both received, but it's clear that this is not a literal image. This is another example of Horikoshi representing One For All with something else - in this case, the balls of light and the cards. Why else would Toshinori be holding his own glowing orb?

Additionally, in the second image, both Izuku and Katsuki take up roughly the same amount of space on the page. This gives them equal visual weight, and once again gives the impression of equality and balance. Pairing this imagery with the "beginning" part of the "end of an era and the beginning of a new one" bit shows that they will be a duo, continuing on All Might's legacy together.

Our final piece of evidence (for now) is Kuudo's words to Banjo and Yoichi.

Let me call back to my first point. The explanation that Katsuki didn't get OFA because he passed out during the transfer never sat right with me. I don't think that's what happened.

I think One For All chose to stay with Izuku, and this set of panels backs me up. The other holders - some of them, at least - are staying with Izuku, despite him giving One For All to Katsuki. They have enough agency to do that.

One For All is not leaving Izuku.

Kuudo has asked Banjo to stay with Izuku, and Yoichi to watch over him. The quirk isn't leaving Izuku - it's expanding. Kuudo will likely still be within the vestige world himself, but like Banjo staying at Izuku's side to help him, Kuudo will be with Katsuki.

In conclusion (for now);

One For All is and will always be Izuku's quirk. It's just Katsuki's quirk, too, now.

I try to look at it positively. Bakugou is almost fully embracing his development of being Izuku's little bitch sidekick partner. Although still deluding himself that he has a chance to maybe surpass Izuku he doesn't

Also this chapter further crushes the idea that Izuku is obsessed with Bakugou when in reality it was always Bakugou being obsessed with Izuku. Mofo is half dead and even then all he can think of is Izuku and calling himself his nickname, it's almost funny to me.

100% agree with everything you wrote! The funny thing is there are still people out there claiming izuku is obsessed with bakugou and the stalker in their relationship, when it was ALWAYS the other way around! Bakugou just confirmed in the last chapter AGAIN that his main goal is to surpass izuku and to be the best, while izuku has tons of other things in his mind right now which have absolutely NOTHING to do with bakugou. He is able to live a totaly normal life without the need or wish to think about bakugou 24/7 while the other is completly FIXATED on his obsessive rivality with izuku. Yeah, what great character development that is.... 🤦🏼‍♀️

And even funnier is that so many of the bkdk shippers actually believe that bakugou calling himself "kacchan" is a reference to the nickname izuku calls him (to be honest I thought so too at first, till I did my research), but its actually not! Some people fluent in japanese pointed out that bakugou actually calls himself "the kacchan of all bakugous" (that sounds so DUMB!) which is a reference to what denki called bakugou in the movie heroes rising. The "kacchan" he uses is not even the "kacchan" izuku gave him, its the one DENKI gave him! I guess that means bakudenki canon! 😜😆
