OK my bitches (by which I mean the lovely operblr folks), Don Carlos at the Met has been seen. Here’s a bullet point list of my thoughts.
--Even if I don’t like Act 1, if you’re at the Met and those opening notes sound, it’s very exciting!
--If you ever asked yourself: “When Matthew Polenzani does that gorgeous pianissimi, can it possibly hit the back of the hall?” The answer is yes, yes, it does. *sobbing*
--Hubby: “I expected Sonya to be pretty good, but she’s even better than I expected.” Truth.
--The Met orchestra playing the Act 2 prelude…. Fuck. Me.
--The bro-love duet is everything you want it to be.
--If a mezzo doesn’t own the stage when she walks on as Eboli, can she really call herself a mezzo? Barton is A Mezzo ™.
--Carlos is so extra in the scene with Elizabeth. Matthew was perfectly ridiculous.
--Dupuis is so natural in the duet with Owens, I didn’t even think about the fact he was singing. It was just so good. The only criticism I have is most of the night, I wish I could have turned up the volume on Owens’s lovely voice.
--There are moments in DC when I am wont to drift. A mediocre garden trio will do it every time. This was not mediocre.
--The Met chorus was just crazy good in the Auto-da-fe.
--Owens best moment is the open of Act 4. Without anyone else to compete with but an orchestra at a volume he can work with, he’s great.
--The Grand Inquisitor scene is the only tempo issue I had with the evening—too fast. Let the bassoons of doom take their time.
--Relyea is everything you thought he would be.
--Let’s be blunt: this duet and the quartet that follow is one of the places I drift sometimes.
--If the audience had clapped any longer for Barton, the Met would have been forced to reconsider the encore policy.
--My poor Rodrigue! The singing could not have been better. And good lord, Matthew and Etienne were all up in each other’s stuff. One quibble about the staging, though. There are long stone benches/tombs (depending on the scene) and people sit on them all the time. Couldn’t Carlos have schlepped his boyfriend over to one rather than letting him stand until the very end? It barely registered the poor guy was dying.
--Did I cry literal tears during the lacrimosa? No one will ever know, because it was very dark.
--Sonya nailed her aria, unsurprisingly.
--Until it hits “Au revoir,” this is another duet where I sometimes drift, but once they hit that part, I was invested and it was lovely.
--So, those reviews were not exaggerating—Carlos gets stabbed, and Rodrigue comes back surrounded by a bright light to embrace him and they collapse on each other in the middle of the stage together.
Obviously, I loved it. It’s in cinemas next weekend. Go see it if you can!

I simply do not understand people who say they don't like to read history. Like, how do you not want to hear about all the crazy shit people did 600 years ago? It's absolutely fantastic.

So, I just watched Becoming Traviata, an excellent documentary about the 2011 Aix-en-Provence Traviata with Dessay, Castronovo, and Tezier. Just in case anyone is looking to win my undying love, the person who gifs the rehearsal of Un di, felice, eterea will have it.

a crazy voice in my head tells me that you would write a destiel fanfic. honestly, i would be the first one to wave the flag and shout “woohoo, you can do it! you are amazing! i am here for you!”
I mean. The first post I ever made on this blog, back in November 2012, was a short Supernatural ficlet called Every Last Prayer. And while the Destiel isn't explicitly stated, I view it as a Destiel fic.
So I guess you're not entirely wrong? xD
I just never posted it on AO3 because I wrote it back when I was still very insecure about my writing and was hesitant to share it. Plus that it's so short.
I don't know if I'll ever end up writing a longer Destiel fic, though. I do view Destiel as one of my OG ships but, sometimes, even if I love the source material, I don't always want to write or read fics. And, in the case with Destiel, I don't really have any ideas for fics? Especially since it was years since I watched the show (and I also haven't finished it yet, so there's that >_> )
Adding to that, I have this habit where I often stop reading fics in fandoms I write for. Partly because of lingering insecurities (I'll start comparing my fics to other people's works) but also because my brain is like a sponge and I tend to soak up information left and right without even realising it. And so I'm often worried that I might accidentally steal someone else's idea without even knowing it. Or that I'll be influenced and change my ideas/characterisation because of peer pressure.
Anyhow, point being, I'm not sure I want to stop reading Destiel fics just yet. And so it's safer for me not to write a long fic for that ship xD
My brain works in mysterious ways.
Thank you so much for the support, though, even if a Destiel fic isn't likely to happen xD

love island bakugou, your first kiss is during the dirty laundry challenge.
his couple with jirou is still early, but he can already tell it's not going anywhere, and he hasn't set his eyes on anyone yet — you included. of course he thinks you're beautiful, but he can objectively say all the women are, and he's peripherally aware of how well you and kaminari are getting along.
the truth is probably something horrible 💀 you slide down into the soap and find a fake, laminated dinner bill and the statement is, "this boy once ended a date in the middle of dinner because he felt it wasn't going to work out" !!! and you're looking at the boys, wondering who out of them would do such a thing 💀 and you don't know much about bakugou, haven't spent any real time talking to him because he's intimidating LOL but it's because he's so gruff that you decide he's got to be the one.
i think. bakugou would really dislike the kissing LOL especially in the beginning, so he's frowning, watching you in your cute bathing suit, all soaped up — but when you come to stand right in front of him, he feels oddly nervous ?? because he really hasn't been paying attention to you, and now he is !!
it's the first time he's had a kiss that he hasn't purposely made chaste or quick; you go in for it because he's damn handsome, for as shy as you feel in front of his broad figure, and EVERYONE notices that he ACTUALLY, PROPERLY kisses you in return 💀 it's nothing as explicit as some of the other exchanged kisses, but sero swears he saw your tongue in his mouth, even if bakugou won't admit to it 💀
(and this is the first time he feels conflicted, really, about throwing a point for a challenge when his turn comes up. because he really has no clue if you're the girl the statement is about, but his stomach feels light and flippy and when his eyes dart to you, you're already watching him, waiting to see who he'll choose.)
(his face is on fire, when all the girls squeal beside him as thinks fuck it and kisses you anyway, and he's not gonna admit this either, but maybe he goes all in too 💀)
