#qotd : Thriller or Fantasy? The Chestnut Man is one of those books which I read, loved, enjoyed and then never wrote a proper review. It is a heart-pounding debut from the creator of the hit Scandinavian television show The Killing. It is a chilling story which will run shivers down your spine. I remember not able to put it down and finished it in a single sitting. The story is weaved beautifully and keeps you guessing till the end. If you love crime thrillers then this book is definitely a must read. It is definitely a 5🌟 read and i highly recommend it. The blurb has been mentioned below. If you find one, he’s already found you. A psychopath is terrorizing Copenhagen. His calling card is a “chestnut man”—a handmade doll made of matchsticks and two chestnuts—which he leaves at each bloody crime scene. Examining the dolls, forensics makes a shocking discovery—a fingerprint belonging to a young girl, a government minister’s daughter who had been kidnapped and murdered a year ago. A tragic coincidence—or something more twisted? To save innocent lives, a pair of detectives must put aside their differences to piece together the Chestnut Man’s gruesome clues. Because it’s clear that the madman is on a mission that is far from over. And no one is safe.  . . #bookaddict #bookstagram #bookstagramer #bookblogger #blogger #bookreviwer #thechestnutman #spookybooks #murdermysterybooks #mysterybooks #crimethriller #crimebooks #serialkillers #bloggerofassam #bloggersofsilchar #silchar #assam #bookworm #booknerd #bookflatlay #bookshelf #sneharecommends #booksbooksbooks #bookdragon #bookbloggerofsilchar #spooktober (at Spooky Season) https://www.instagram.com/p/CG9Rh88gRv9/?igshid=t8rvmpgs9e63

#qotd : tea or coffee? As it is the spooky month i thought about sharing one of my favourite reads from last year Author: Laura Purcell Publisher: @bloomsburyindia Pages: 384 My Review: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 After the death of her husband, Elsie Bainbridge moves into his family house, The Bridge, in a village far away from London with his cousin Sarah. Everything seems strange about that house starting from the awkward servants, mysterious noises and villagers’ ignorance towards the Bridge. As days pass by Elsie and Sarah discovers forbidden secrets which disrupts their lives. The spooky companions starts appearing and it seems that the life of every member of that household is at stake. The book is beautifully eerie and keeps you awake at night thinking about the companions knocking at your door. The starting may seem to be slow but within few pages the book picks up its pace and keeps you hooked. The author has amazingly weaved such a tale of horror mixed with elements of psychology which makes chills run down your spine. The characters are mysterious and well casted. The backdrop of the story gives you the perfect spooky vibes thus doing justice to the theme. The most horrifying part was the diary entries by Anne Bainbridge from 17th century which explains almost all the supernatural activities. This is one of the best horror stories I have read in a long time and I highly recommend it. Also the cover of the book is lovely. . . #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookblogger #bookreviewer #flatlaystyle #booksbooksbooks #bookworm #booknerd #igbooks#bookspines #bloggersofsilchar #bloggerofassam #silchar #assam #booknerd #bookish #bookdragon #booklover #bookaddict #bookbloggersofsilchar#thrillerbooks #spookybooks #spooky #horrorbooks #thesilentcompaniom #sneharecommends #spooktober (at India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CG2f-SpABCw/?igshid=1u504fhblyu3c

#qotd : standalones or series? Author: Pragya Agarwal Publisher: Bloomsbury Pages: 414 My Review: 🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 The book digs deep into how each of us form and carry unconscious bias of some sort. We judge, we exclude people, we stereotype. Many biases are formed throughout our life, though societal and parental conditioning and held at the subconscious level. Biases are linked intrinsically to our notion of self-concept and self-identity which is why it is difficult to shake them off. Social categorization occurs spontaneously when we meet new people. Without realization we tend to assign a category based on race, class, gender etc. In this book the author puts forward her points based on various studies and experiments. She tries to make us understand through various stories and instances from her own life. We are complex beings living in a problematic society with deep-rooted thoughts and beliefs which tend to influence our judgments often in the wrong manner. The book is very well researched and talks about numerous topics starting from gut instincts to herd mentality, from racial bias to explicit hate crimes. Lastly it also talks about de-biasing and how we need to activate our logical and rational thinking and actively get rid of any biases that can effect our decision-making process. If you want to get an in depth knowledge regarding unconscious bias you can definitely pick it up. Read the full review on my blog. #qotd: Are you reading any spooky book currently? Author: Sophie Kirtley Publisher: @bloomsburyindia Pages: 256 My Review: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 I absolutely loved reading about the adventures of Charlie and Harby. It is a perfect blend of thrill and suspense. Starting from wolves, spears, caves and storms it contained all the elements needed to make it a perfect adventure story. It made me feel nostalgic and took me back to my childhood days when I used to love reading and watching such stories like The Jungle Book, Tarzaan, etc. It is a perfect book for the middle graders to read during their summer vacations and take a break from their studies. The book teaches us courage, optimism, family values and that running away doesn't make things better. We need to face our fears and find out how to overcome them. Your parents are always going to love you no matter what so you need to open up to them. The plot was so well written without a single dull moment. I found myself racing through the book to find out what happens to Charlie next, to find out if Charlie would be able to return back home After a long time I read such a heart warming story and I highly recommend to everyone who loves a story about courage and adventure. Mostly it would appeal to children and if you are looking for a book to gift a middle grader then you can definitely go for it. . Read the full review on my blog. #qotd: Who is your favourite singer/musician/band? Author: Taylor Jenkins Reid Pages: 368 Publisher: Ballantine Books My Review: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 What an AMAZING book! It is the story of Daisy Jones and the Rock n Roll band called 'The Six' set in the 70s. Daisy is a gorgeous young woman with a gifted voice but down with drugs and alcohol. When she joined The Six to jazz up their album nobody knew she would become a sensation. Her duet along with Billy, the lead singer worked out to be magic. Everyone was fascinated by them except Billy. When the band is in stage everything looks fine, everything looks normal but there were several hidden facts not known to the audience. It is a story of love, hatred, heartbreak and scandals. The book is amazingly written and is completely unputdownable. Believe me or not i finished it in a single sitting. I was mesmerized by the writing style and the story line and continuously wanted to know what happens in the next page. Its not a murder mystery or a nail biting thriller yet the flow of words makes you drawn to it. Taylor Jenkin's words are like magic which keeps you immersed into it and never look up for a second. The characters are well casted and all the rock n all drama keeps you hooked. This is the kind of book which keeps you awake at night, the book which you don't want to finish, the book whose ending makes you think about the complexities of life and relationships. You won't be crying your eyes out at the end but your heart will be heavy with pain and sorrow. There is a certain calmness to the writing which takes your heart away. PLEASE PLEASE read this once and you won't regret. This my first by Taylor Jenkins Reid and now i want to read her every other book . . #bookstagramindia #bookaddict #bookbloggerofsilchar #bookreview #bookreviewer #booksbooksbooks #bookflatlays #booknerd #bookdragon #bloggerofassam #blogger #reviewer #bookish #booksconnectus #bookmail #sneharecommends #bloggerofsilchar #silchar #assam #taylorjenkinsreid #daisyjonesandthesix #bookaholic #bookrecommendations (at My Silchar) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFj3ir2A0NM/?igshid=1ajwfibogszov

#qotd: Sunny Day or a Rainy Day? Author: Joanna Briscoe Publisher: @bloomsburyindia Pages: 371 My Review: 🌟🌟🌟.5/5 Beth is an artist who lives with her husband Sol and her teenage daughter Fern. She has several unresolved issues from childhood which has been straining her current relationships especially with her daughter. Beth's mother abandoned her when she was a teenager and with Fern reaching that age and behaving aloof, Beth starts getting stressed. When Sol suggests her to visit a therapist, the real story begins. Dr. Tamara Bywater starts seeing Beth but instead of improvement everything starts going downhill. There seems to be an untold sinister chemistry between the doctor and her patient, and as the boundary breaks everything goes out of control. There are lies, seduction and manipulation. The prose is beautiful and sucks you in. The way the book deals with relationships is very relatable in today's world. With every passing day relationships are becoming fragile and how a third person can break it off easily seems to be well portrayed in the book. Coming to the doctor-patient relation, it was a forbidden connection, which the doctor seems to exploit to her interest taking advantage of the patient.Though they had a sizzling chemistry but it was a toxic one which Beth learnt the hard way. I am not a fan of any of the characters, but i liked Sol and found cursing Beth at times. She was vulnerable and well manipulated. Though it had a nice plot but some parts felt dragged and could have been cut short. If you want to read a story about forbidden relationship along with lies and obsession, you can definitely pick it up. . It contains more than two hundred photographs highlight an entertaining celebration of the ten years of the popular television series. Like an official guide it includes behind-the- scenes anecdotes of life on and off screen, interviews with the cast and crew, and a look at guest appearances. Thank you chef @ranveer.brar for coming up with amazing and easy recipes that we can prepare now. #koraishutirkochuri was so yum 😋 , #aamtomatotok was my own recipe and was the best combo with the #kochuri . LAL MOHAN/ GULAB JAMUN What's life without "gorma goram lal mohan" ? My craze over desserts are still strong. Life is short and worthless without sweets. 😉 So, eat sweets to have a sweet life. Honestly, speaking I never ever thought that some day I have to prepare my favourite desserts at home. I have seen my parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts buying desserts from sweet shops and never tried preparing some particular kinds of #desserts like #roshogulla #pera #gulabjamun #kalakand #kajubarfi and so on at home. But days have arrived that we have to prepare our favourite sweets and snacks by ourselves. It's not just because of #coronavirusoutbreak⚠️ but this has started long time ago especially because of maintaining #hygiene and #chemicalfreelifestyle . It was not that easy for all thus #streetfood still existed but now people are having enough time to learn and prepare things. So, we can see so many posts on those food prepared at home that we had only had in restaurants. Thanks to the #foodchannels #foodvlogs #foodvideos #chefs and to everyone who help us preparing our favourite food items. 🤗 This is my 1st try to prepare #lalmohan or #gulabjamun or whatever name it is called as and it came out to be #luscious . I have prepared it from #scratch watching #banglarannaghor . . . #delhifoodie #foodfoodfood #nikonphotography #foodphotography #loveforfood #foodiesofindia #bloggerofassam #indianfoodbloggers #desistyle #homemadefood #quarantinecooking #livingfoodz (at Delhi, India) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_cehvGA8P1/?igshid=1xbw61tqwqpas
