✨💗 JJLNSSS ⸺ 01.) Have your SI / OC introduce themselves.
Tumblr media
Shayleigh Disa Malmsteen
“Whad’ya mean ‘introduce myself’? If ya know me, ya know me. If ya don’t, it’s stayin’ like that. Now get outta my way! If I don’t fetch what Enya sent me for soon I’ll never hear the end of it.”
Hailing from Miami, Shay is one of a set of identical twin girls born to a Swedish motorcycle mechanic, which is where she gained her fondness for them. She’s since estranged from her father, being kicked out at seventeen and turning to a life of crime in an outlaw motorcycle gang to keep herself afloat. She is twenty three during the events of Stardust Crusaders. Finding herself in Cairo after fleeing the USA to escape possible gang retaliation after an “accidental” murder, she acts as a ‘gofer’ or errand girl of sorts for DIO and Enya. She’s most often sent around the city for various reasons, but sometimes also for tasks that would require great stealth (i.e. retrieving the Anubis sword from a museum).
Quiet Riot
Gained after being shot with a stand arrow, Quiet Riot is a fairly powerful short range stand. It’s main ability is to completely silence all noises from any person or object, with two ‘intensities’ — it can either mute within a 10 meter radius of itself, or focus all of its energy into one foe for a maximum of 100 meters. Its limited in that it cannot mute anything that is physically untouchable or dangerous for shay to be near (i.e. thunderstorms or explosion blast waves).
Richelle Angelique Sambora
“Bon soir. I’ve been instructed to aid in your demise.”
Born in Ottawa and later raised in Orange county, Richelle is the only child of a California native and a mother from Gatineau. Her parents split while she was still a baby, but remained under one roof to raise Richelle during her formative years. After her mother remarried a much older and much richer man, she and Richelle relocated to Beverly Hills which kickstarted a very turbulent period in her life. Between being in a new place with no friends and being “forced” into show business (by forced I mean politely declining her stepfather’s offer only to be berated by her mother for turning down “an offer that many girls would kill for”), it all led to a mental break in late 1988 when she was only nineteen. Her stepfather suggested she throw a dart at a map and go for a little vacation wherever it landed… You guessed it, Egypt. She wasn’t in Cairo long before encountering DIO, running into him just after sunset one night. She remembers being afraid, and then eerily calm, before suffering an ‘inexplicable’ gap in her memory.
Satet
Satet was also awoken by a stand arrow and is named after an Egyptian goddess of hunting. It was named by Enya as Richelle refused to name it. Satet is not a stand suitable for combat. It’s main ability is a tracker type stand, used to pinpoint the precise location of the Joestar party via small objects carefully planted on their persons. This information was be relayed to the other agents for them to formulate their assaults.

didn't want to add to your post bc i'm not welsh (but asian) and haven't lived in the uk for a while so by no means is this on the same level as the celtophobia experienced by welsh people, but thank you so much for bringing up that "hahaaha your words are so complicated, too complicated for meee" thing that english people do! it's so spot on, right down to that stupid laugh! i work in academia too and i swear i've only ever seen the english do it*-- not just with names/terms/places in lectures but even refusing to say the names of speakers that they introduce at conferences. it's like there's pride in that behaviour, as if they think makes them sound humble rather than incredibly insensitive and ignorant. the other day i saw an english comedian on tv apologize (apologize!) for pronouncing a french word CORRECTLY (while commentating eurovision, of all things) because she knew it was "making her sound pretentious". like what is wrong with these people!
(* not that non-english people are always respectful about non-english/minority languages, but i've never seen them refuse to pronounce something or do "the laugh" + i've experienced a lot more non-english people at least saying "i hope i pronounced this correctly, please correct me if i'm wrong", which is marginally better. i wish more people were like you with the tanzanian terms)
anyway, i hope that lecturer faces consequences for being so unprofessional.
Oh yeah, this is a HUGE part of the problem! The one I always bring up is Amanda Holden announcing the UK Eurovision voting results in 2021. Like EVERY OTHER ANNOUNCER, she had learned how to say 'Good evening' in French and Dutch ("Bon Soir, Goedenavond."); and then, unlike literally any other announcer, IMMEDIATELY followed it up with "That means good evening in French and Dutch, but I've got no idea which is which! Tee hee!"
Friend, I can tell you now - Welsh language social media had a fucking field day.
But yeah, they are highly motivated, culturally, by the idea that respecting someone else's language is cringeworthy and pretentious. They can't handle the idea of losing face and being embarrassed in case they get it wrong, so it becomes turned around - if saying it right is pretentious, then socially, they no longer have to do it and risk embarrassment. It would now be embarrassing to do it right. Genius! They're off the hook!
Anyway, it's bad enough when they do it to us, but it's worse when they do it to Asian languages and cultures, so I offer you a fist bump of solidarity.

ce soir c'est beau
pairings : kylian mbappé , reader
genre : fluff
summary : a late night stroll with your favorite parisian, kylian.
a/n: blurb, because yes; using google translate sorry for any mistakes. (lowercase intented).
you grinned, paris was a sight to behold. the scenery of the eiffel tower in all its grandiosity the shops, the vibrancy of tourists and parisians crowding the tower; it was just breathtaking.
the tower was sparkling with thousands of sparkles, and the stores were lit up with fairy lights. the park's luminescence; moonlight reflecting on the lake, adding to the splendor.
people were dispersed throughout, picnicking and enjoying their stay in paris; this was nothing compared to america. a hand gripped yours somewhat firmer, jolting you out your reverie.
you look to your side, your smile grew even bigger.
kylian.
"who are you looking at so lovey-dovey?" the blond haired man asked.
you shrugged lightly, "you" you responded with.
You can see his eyes crinkle up in gaiety as he grinned and lifted your hand to place a small kiss on it.
"j'taime"
"i love you too, but, are we just going to stay walking around here?"
"non, viens marcher avec moi."
(no, come walk with me)
he said practically dragging you somewhere, "aren't I already walking with you?"
he rolled his eyes and brought to this little cafe, you both entered.
It was nice, cozy, and just simplistic. You both sat at the bar tables, kylian on the other side of you.
"i've been coming here for awhile..it's amazing, les gens vous traitent avec respect, peu importe qui vous êtes. the food here is c'est délicieux."
(the people here treat you with respect, no matter who you are.)
"that's nice to hear, considering how you're a big deal around here." you stated factually.
an old woman approached your table her presence was serene, "kylian, bienvenue à nouveau. heureux de vous avoir à nouveau ici."
(kylian, welcome back. glad to have you here again.)
"salut, grand-mère, c'est bon d'être de retour."
(hi, grandma it's nice to be back.)
"et qui est-ce?" she pointed at you
(and who's this?)
"c'est y/n, mon autre significatif"
(this is y/n, my significant other)
"ravi de vous rencontrer enfin, o/n. maintenant, puis-je prendre vos deux commandes ?"
(nice to finally meet you, y/n. now, can i take both of your orders?)
"nous aurons tous les deux un crossiant et un latte, merci grand-mère"
(we'll both have a crossiant and latte, thank you grandma)
"d'accord" she nodded and went into the back.
when you bit into the croissant, the flavors just burst into your tongue; such a simple item, yet it offers so much flavor.
"good, no?" kylian asked, looking you, while he drinks his latte.
"amazing" you said finishing the last piece of your croissant.
you both decided to go home after the cafe. crazy, that'd you be sharing a home with paris's golden boy.
you and kylian and enjoy the rest of your night with just each other's company.

Bon soir. Do you have resources/recommendations for understanding the Israel/Palestine conflict as it related to American media coverage and American anti-semitism?
I do not have any particular content resources, but as I said on WhatsApp, I am willing to write you a brief (ha) primer of this whole mess, its historical context, and the political issues/positions that inform how it is currently covered and talked about in America and the West. Obviously this will not cover everything, but it will hopefully give you some sense of where this is all coming from and why.
The modern state of Israel was founded in 1948, on territory that is historically associated with the ancient/biblical "Israel." Obviously, this took place in the immediate aftermath of the Holocaust and the attempt to wipe out European Jewry. It was felt that the world at large owed reparations to Jews for that "yet again, we tried to kill all of you, our bad" thing. One might say, understandably so.
However, this was controversial because there were already people living in that territory, and overnight they found themselves stateless, or otherwise long-term/deliberately excluded from the new Israeli state apparatus. The Israeli government has long since promoted an image of the (secular) Israeli citizen as also (religiously) Jewish, even though there are many Middle Eastern Christians, Muslims, Arabs, etc etc., who may not identify with this particular ethnic-religious model of Israeli citizenship.
The Middle East has long been a geopolitically/militarily contested area (dating all the way back to the crusades) due to its huge symbolic importance to the three major Abrahamic faiths (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, exemplified by the incredibly sensitive issue of who gets to lay claim to the city of Jerusalem and how). In the nineteenth century, European colonial powers also occupied and exploited the region, particularly Britain in Egypt and Syria, France in Lebanon, and others.
The Ottoman Empire was also in conflict with its European imperial rivals, further increasing the instability and resulting in the development of various nationalist, religious, separatist, and other proxy groups. This all informed the situation at the time Israel was created in 1948, especially as the Middle East and Northern Africa entered the postwar period of decolonization/independence in the 1950s/60s. Pan-Arab nationalist leaders like President Nasser of Egypt portrayed the creation of Israel as yet another crass imposition of European colonial/imperial interests, rather than any kind of merited settlement/feeling bad about the Holocaust. Many Arab states still refuse to recognize Israel, or have any diplomatic relations with it, as a result.
Because Jews have experienced political, religious, and genocidal persecution throughout history (the manifestation of anti-Semitism), the idea of having an actual territorial homeland, where they can be safe from that, is obviously an important protection. There is a very big difference between religious Judaism and political Zionism, defined as the state of Israel's political activities and agendas. However, legitimate criticism of Israel as a nation-state, the same as any other nation-state in the world, is often coded in implicitly (or wildly explicitly) anti-Semitic dogwhistles. Zionism and Judaism are also often deliberately conflated, used interchangeably, or without any attempt to separate them.
Jews of the diaspora, i.e. those in America and Europe, often find themselves ambushed with criticisms of Israel's political and military excesses, and asked to explicitly renounce any allegiance to Israel in order to be seen as "good Jews." Which is a heaping helping of problematic stereotypes all at once. Many Jews in America are liberal, Democratic voters, members of Reform congregations etc, and do legitimately oppose the militaristic and seemingly apartheid-esque actions of the Israeli nation-state. But when your choice is "totally renounce the homeland for your people that was created in the immediate aftermath of the Holocaust and intended to provide very real and very needed shelter against future atrocities of this type, or be subject to more anti-Semitic vitriol," that is... not good.
The U.S. has long supported Israel as a political entity for various reasons. One, because it is often antagonistic or in opposition to the largely Muslim nation-states in the Middle East, and sees Israel as a more natural ally (so yes, institutional Islamophobia does play a role). Two, because the evangelical Christian right-wing wackjobs think that it's important to support Israel because one day Jesus will come back there and start the Rapture (true story).
Right-wing Republicans are often extremely anti-Semitic because they're Christian nutjobs, and left-wing tankies are ...also extremely anti-Semitic, because they paint Israel as just an extension of the American imperial regime and it should therefore be destroyed/delegitimized. (Remember, everything is America's fault somehow and other countries have no agency and never act independently, just as dumb American puppets!) As usual with tankies, they make no effort to understand the sensitive historical, religious, and identity issues around the necessity of a Jewish homeland and why it happened in the first place.
All that said, Israel as a nation, culture, and military (not Judaism as a religion) has often behaved appallingly toward the Palestinians who also live there, and has rejected any idea of a two-state or power-sharing solution. This is where Palestine would also have the right to organize itself as a state and exert the same level of influence/defend itself from what often reads as deliberate ethnic cleansing of Palestinian Arabs and attempts to set up an apartheid state where only religious/ethnic Jews have full citizenship rights.
This is exemplified by the fact that Benjamin Netanyahu took a brief vacation, a few undistinguished caretaker far-right PMs occupied the chair for a year, and then he came back.
Almost every player in this situation has an interest in promoting themselves as fully blameless and their enemies as fully and even demonically in the wrong, which complicates any complete or objective assessment. There are Palestinian militant groups, i.e. Hamas and Hezbollah, who are painted as obvious terrorists and extensions of al-Qaeda, especially in the wake of 9/11 and the start of more U.S.-led wars in the Middle East. This assessment neatly serves the purposes of both American and Israeli political agendas and should be scrutinized, especially considering that all sides are engaging in armed violence at all times.
Israel often engages in the same kind of imperialistic "we're only attacking our enemies defensively in order to preserve our own survival as a state" rhetoric as, say, Russia, and has been notably slow about providing weapons or assistance to Ukraine, in contrast to other western allies. However, unlike Russia, which is not under legitimate threat from anything except Putin's wild revanchist delusions of grandeur, Israel does have plenty of other nations (particularly Iran) that would like to wipe it off the map, if it was at all possible to do. This does not excuse the terrible things its powerful military apparatus has repeatedly done to Palestinian civilian populations, but it, again, makes it more complicated.
As the basic realities currently stand, the conflict does not have any obvious short-term or long-term end. Israeli gives no indications of shifting its extreme-assimilationist political and military policy, there will continue to be violent friction between the political and religious Abrahamic factions that lay claim to Jerusalem and its larger symbolic legacy, and the wider world will continue to be invested in promoting and using particular depictions of the conflict for its own domestic and international purposes.
So yeah.

— Munich, Germany, July 5
“Good evening all. I said good evening. Right, well it’s nice to see you and it’s nice to be seen, I can tell you that. We got a number ah, from the annals of Rock History. It’s not called Black Dog Jimmy. It’s just called Schwarz Hund.”
— Berlin, Germany, July 7

" Monday Monday " 🎶
Tumblr media
Monday, Monday
Lundi, lundi 🎶
So good to me
Est si bon pour moi
Monday morning
Lundi matin
It was all I hoped it would be
Était tout à fait comme je l'avais souhaité
Oh, Monday morning
Oh, lundi matin
Monday morning couldn't guarantee
Lundi matin n'a pas pu garantir
That Monday evening you would still
Que lundi soir tu serais toujours
Be here with me
Ici avec moi
Monday, Monday
Lundi, lundi 🎶🎶
Can't trust that day
Je ne peux faire confiance à ce jour là
Monday, Monday
Lundi, lundi
Sometimes it just turns out that way
Parfois il tourne simplement ainsi
Oh, Monday morning you gave me no warning
Oh, lundi soir tu ne m'as donné aucun préavis
Of what was to be
De ce qui arriverait
Oh, Monday, Monday
Oh, lundi, lundi
How could you leave and not take me
Comment as-tu pu partir sans moi 🎶
Every other day
N'importe quel autre jour
Every other day
N'importe quel autre jour
Every other day of the week is fine (fine), yeah
N'importe quel autre jour de la semaine est formidable ( formidable), ouais
But whenever Monday comes
Mais chaque fois qu'arrive le lundi
But whenever Monday comes
Mais chaque fois qu'arrive le lundi 🎶
You can find me crying all of the time
Tu me trouveras en train de pleurer tout le temps
Monday, Monday
Lundi, lundi
Can't trust that day
Je ne peux faire confiance à ce jour là
Monday, Monday
Lundi, lundi
It just turns out that way
Il tourne simplement ainsi
Oh, Monday, Monday 🎶🎶
Oh, lundi, lundi
Won't go away
Ne partira pas
Monday, Monday
Lundi lundi
It's here to stay
Il est là pour de bon
Oh, Monday, Monday
Oh, lundi, lundi 🎶🎶

Rituals
Rituals are important in a relationship.
It's so different from the rules it's more.
At the beginning it gives the basics. The little things you have to do to get used to your sub condition. Yes, you have to get used to it because in order to evolve, you won't always like everything.
Personally, I like rituals. Those in the morning, they put me in condition for the day but above all it is a moment of serenity. I take myself 5/10 min every morning in position (I wouldn't say which one this is my private garden with my Master) and I think about my submission. Attention this is not a questioning this is different.
The midday ritual: Saying "Bon appétit" to my Master is a pleasure.
The evening ritual: "Good night with a little polite phrase that changes"
Throughout the day: "thoughts".
For me the rituals cement the relationship. It also shows devotion to my Master.
Rhéa 😊

hi hello :D hope y’all are having a wonderful day-
thank you so much for making this blog because holy shit it’s gonna be so helpful <3
how do you say “Jesus Christ” in French ? context being it’s an exasperated exclamation
1. Many thanks - Aschen
Always happy to help! Now shower us with prompts and questions :) - Ray
Aw hey, thanks a ton - Cosmas
alpha here !! have a nice day too ! Personally, I'm glad you think this'll be useful. I just hope you and other people alike will be ready for how fuckin utterly disgustingly verbose I am, as expected of the person of this blog assuming authority on questions regarding spy (and perhaps what little scout could hope to have of french), and I am wishing you to manage to extract some glimpses of useful informations from my endless blabber still. (i also would like to apologise for my... sporadic use of ' and caps. i unfortunately have spent a good part of my life imitating dave strider's typing style, for i am the mandatory homestuck fan per project.)
onto the point !
well, what a simple yet interesting question, which yet easily unfolds into quite the lot of considerations to ponder !
so see, i am already forced to explain a little french thing known as our special relationship with religion, or as i fondly call it, our hellbentness on loudly frothing at the mouth whenever the church and catholicism is mentionned and our tendency to enjoy concepts such as the guillautine and the séparation de l'état et de l'église (chuch state separation for you English speaking friends)
Tumblr media
This love for our république and révolution influenced us culturally a lot. In short; we do not refer to god for much or anything, including for the use religion based cusses, simply because we were hellbent on removing the catholic church from as much of our life as possible. It wasnt just royalty ! (we had a toast in the honor of the english queens death btw). But, because there always is a but, these cusses and the like still exist in french, and Spy is still someone who lives around americans a lot. so im assuming hed do the same as me, aka pick up a lot of language habits that youd usually not develop as much. this DOES include using religious based speech despite it all. A common consequence is, even if you don't say oh mon dieu/mon dieu a lot usually, well… Live long enough in America, and you will. But, because of course, there's always a but ! we do this because they have strikingly similar connotations ! Both can be used for surprise, fear and exhaustion alike. So. Let me actually answer this.
First, Jésus Christ is how you say it in french but it's pronounced completely different, like jeh-zus creest. Second, that said its not one i'd quite use interchangeably, at least for this case. You see, not only it sounds awkward as fuck in French and would be a real tongue twister to say in the middle of an English sentence (Ray's post on switching from Russian to English being hard also applies to French), it also would be that French uses this one a bit more restrictively : it's a thing you say more for surprising situations rather than quite exhaustion. We can but it's not our first choice. (also, on a side note, doux Jésus, lit. sweet jesus, is precisely for pleasant surprises too, as well as fear bound surprise. On a similar vein, the exclamation "Jesus !" will more often than not be better translated by "Christ !", but it really is. um. a nun/old time thing. It really is not common.)
Ironically mon dieu/bon dieu would likely be more fitting, bon sang (bloody hell ? Except that it's just. literally good blood.) but only if you follow it with a full mocking sentence like "bon sang, you are so fucking stupid it baffles me !…" or something like "bon sang, mais c'est quoi ce bordel ?" for full on, jesus christ what is this shit ? yknow. you even can use bon sang de bon soir. This whole thing reads as much more firm and almost angry compared to what you want, likely, tho. The absolute fucking peak of tired exhaustion, which is what I assume you're going for ? a standalone "mon Dieu mon Dieu mon Dieu mon Dieu…" Complete with head shaking and rubbing your temples. Bonus for being a classic movie reference (le grand restaurant, any Louis de Funès fan here ? he might pop up a lot in what i refer to). "Doux Jésus de doux Jésus de doux Jésus…" also works the same, minus the cool reference. A good ole "oh putain" for when you realize sth is going fucky is good too, the classic "merde/et merde" also is commonly adviseable.
There are many options because despite Ray's insistance that French cussing is weak compared to Russian one, we do have an entire art of cussing a lot, cussing in specific ways and cussing in stupid and artful ways. please do not hesitate to provide more context and/or the paragraph in which this pops up. but overall ? since your audience will be in its majority either american, or french people used enough to american english, i wouldnt worry too much about jésus christ not being understood or noticed as an "error" despite its use being a tiny tiny bit different. This is overall nitpick. but hey ! Guess that's what we are here for.

Bon Soir, Mes Amis
Have you all seen it yet? Good. Lestat and I are just sitting down to rewatch the first one in the privacy of our own home, and to watch episode two. Of course, I adored seeing it with everyone last night, and I had much I wanted to say, but I didn't want to spoil anything for you all. Below are my thoughts.
Jacob Anderson is a phenomenal Louis. I adore every fiber of his being.
Sam Reid proved himself as a Lestat, even if I don't quite agree with every writing decision they made about him. Even Lestat loved him. Lestat still hates his hair though.
Daniel! I love the acknowledgement of the boomer that Daniel never became. That old man perfectly captures Daniel's essence and I'll be thrilled to see Armand stalk and destroy that crochety old man.
My beloved siblings. Paul was perfect. Sincere and wild eyed and committed. I sobbed watching him fall again. Though I didn't like the removal of the supernatural from his death. And my dear sister. Sweet and strong. I liked the name they chose for her, since I never published one as she has living descendants, and the good relationship they have her with her husband. It's everything I wanted for her.
I miss our clothes. I understand that they didn't want to deal with any of the events of the 19th century in America with a black Louis but that suit just isn't doing it for me. Anderson deserves satins.
What the devil is with the Dubai apartment? That excessively luxurious modernity is more Seth's speed. I am more a man of my time.
I wish they'd let Anderson be softer with his brother. There are ways of showing the repressed gay man having to be tough against his nature without having him pull a knife on Paul. Let him be tender and kind. I beg of you. Let him show the softness he deserves.
That sex scene. That was groundbreaking and beautiful. That's going to live in my head forever. And no, horny anon, I will not speak to it's accuracy. Though I will tell you that's exactly what being bitten feels like.
That's all the major points for now. I'm sure I'll have more to say after we watch the next one. Please talk to me about this. I want to watch this with you and hear your human perspectives! Good evening, friends.
