Paulina reads one day on the news that these unique super rare earrings resembling cats were stolen from a touring art gallery in gotham a few weeks ago.

meta gene paulina has cat traits. She moves to her aunt's house in Gotham because she apparently knows someone that can help her training. Selina Kyle sets up meetings with various rogues and anti heroes with meta abilities to help train her niece. The Bats get word of a new meta in training being helped by a bunch of people from Copperhead to Black Canary, a wide myriad of heroes, anti heroes, and villians are all training this meta. It's worrying. They send out Black bat to observe this meta as they don't know the meta's intentions.

tell us more about little Z!

Z is one of our favourites to play with, he's the mischievous kid that gets everyone to go along with his shenanigans haha. He loves playing pranks and getting on people's nerves, but no one can ever truly get upset because he's equally sweet as well. He also has plant powers (that we forgot about for while 😅)

The backstory of a lot of these Knuckleses tends to fluctuate a little, but we've consistently agreed that Z was born thousands of years ago while the Knuckles clan were still around and thriving. He was chosen at a young age to be infused with great amounts of the Master Emerald's energy, and was taken from his parents and raised just to take part in the power transferring ceremony.

It went wrong. Disastrously wrong. His body could not contain the power that the Echidna Priests tried to infuse him with, leading to his death. His body was buried and forgotten about as thousands of years went by and the echidnas eventually faced extinction. But no one knew that under the earth, Z's body was kept intact by the power that still saturated his bones. The Master Emerald protected him for all those years.

One day, he woke up. Alone.

There's a lot more to this of course, but we can't reveal everything all at once ahah!

The initial idea for Z in the Echidna's Parade Discord came from an au idea ramble from aphantimes. Just the vague idea of a Knuckles that was killed centuries ago and kept intact and eventually revived by the Master Emerald. At first he was characterised as being around the same age as Game Knuckles, and had a strangely detached personality, barely reacting to finding out he's a walking corpse. A very far cry from our current mischievous little kid!! The story evolved a LOT with many different contributors from the server and we eventually got the Z we have now!

Ah, my bad. I‘ve been mentioning this a few times on the Jujutsu Kaisen Discord server, and I think maybe Reddit and Twitter.

Around the time Naoya first showed up, it seemed very out of place to me that he is wearing white hakama.

Something that always stood out to me about him is how a lot of readers perceive him as „traditional“ whereas he seemed „really radical“ to me with his dyed, bleached hair, all the piercings, his bluntness AND - HIS WHITE HAKAMA. Any conservative ojii-san would beat his juvenile ass for that stuff.

There are firmly set ways to wear your traditional attire and usually (in Kendo and Iaido which are swords-related martial arts) etiquette demands either blue gi and blue hakama for both men and women, or white gi and black hakama for men, all black is occasionally also seen - and then there is the montsuki for high „dan“ ranks. Naobito, in accordance with his rank and fighting skills, wears one like that.

White hakama, in Kendo and Iaido, are generally women‘s wear.

Very rarely you might also find extremely high rank elderly swordsmen wear white hakama - but even then they are commonly paired with a white gi into an all white outfit.

To wear dark tops and white bottoms is a really odd choice.

If you look at Maki taking down the Zenin clan, you can see she applies formal iaido/kendo cuts in her attacks - so Gege definitely is familiar with the specifics of this.

On top of that, men commonly wear the hakama ties on the hip bone, around the lower gut area. Women wear hakama very high, right under the chest.

As you can see, not only the hakama colour, but even the placement on Naoya's body seems to be more feminine-leaning// like a masculine woman would wear it, but not low as any man would and should wear it.

It is not a general thing either - Naobito wears them appropriately lower.

Which is why it came across to me as a very low key but hilarious inside joke to give „the misogynist guy“ such blatantly feminine attire.

Interesting enough, nowadays I don't think anymore that I was tripping when I caught onto it — because upon his return as a vengeful spirit not only was he temporarily a floating vagina but even came back with the womb-themed domain expansion.

It‘s a cool detail, if it was meant this way. But it could also merely have been for artistic reasons. Either way, Gege sure left a few jokes in there about him and his self-chosen feminine attributes, but it's up to you to decide whatever shenanigans are going on there with him. I think he's just a little rebel and likes eccentric fashion, but maybe there is more to it ;-)

Isaiah and the Camera (Goosebumps 2023 Analysis 1/5)

So I was rambling to my friends on Discord about my thoughts on the new Goosebumps show (it’s amazing by the way, highly recommend watching it so long as you aren’t super squeamish about bugs or broken bones) and as I was talking I discovered something…

The show’s symbolism is fucking remarkable.

So the show has a pretty basic premise right? Our five main characters enter the Biddle home and interact with one of Biddle’s now-haunted objects leading to haunted shenanigans. It seems pretty simple on the surface, right?

Well it’s a lot more deliberate then it first seems, and I’m absolutely certain Biddle led each kid to their specific object on purpose. Because each object perfectly represents their specific kid’s issues and struggles in a way that is personal.

So I’ve decided to make five posts analyzing each kid and their relationship with their specific object, starting with Isaiah.

(Spoilers below the cut, don’t proceed until you’ve seen the show. I promise it’s worth watching first)

Isaiah is our first point of view, having found Biddle’s old camera in the basement at the party. Throughout the show it’s laid out blatantly by multiple characters that Isaiah is selfish and he has a hard time looking outside of himself. At first I was sort of confused on why they were hammering on this point so harshly, surely it would be better for Isaiah’s actions to speak for themself? But what I’ve since realized is that the other characters’ perspectives on Isaiah are deliberately unreliable, the story is trying to make the viewer see Isaiah through a more negative light on purpose.

It’s not that Isaiah isn’t self-centered, because he is. It’s very clear that all of his actions are put through the viewpoint (get it?) of how they’ll affect him. However, what the other characters don’t get is that despite this self-centered viewpoint Isaiah does pay attention to those around him and he is always doing his best to be there when it counts. The story makes a point of subtlety showing throughout the show that Isaiah is reliable and the type of person to carry his burdens completely on his own. Think an Atlas-type.

Throughout Say Cheese and Die! Isaiah is shown to be massively popular. He’s the Football teams star player and the entire school adores him and relies on him to rally their morale. He’s got a pretty, popular girlfriend in Allison and just about everyone knows him. Hell, people like him so much that he has a full blown bakery after he gets hurt from how many people came to check on him. It sounds like the dream, right? From other characters perspectives it certainly looks like it, but we as the viewer know better.

Isaiah is under a massive amount of pressure pretty much on all sides. The school is relying on him for the football game but so are his parents, who Isaiah walks in on screaming at one another over the issue of his scholarships, as it’s implied that if he doesn’t get a football scholarship Isaiah won’t be able to go to college. Based on how nonchalant Margot and Isaiah act over the fight as well it’s implied this is not the first time his parents have argued around him about the issue. Already, there is a precedent that Isaiah must succeed. His school is counting on it. His family is counting on it. His future is counting on it.

He doesn’t want to let anyone down, so he pushes himself to his absolute limits and in trying to be there for everyone inadvertently causes riffs and issues in his own relationships. Isaiah has to play in the game to get a scholarship to gain his Dad’s approval so he has to cheat off Margot, even if it harms his relationship with her. Allison’s party location is leaked and she’s upset and he’s supposed to be a good boyfriend so he has to find a new location for her, even if it’s by abusing his Dad’s job. He has to get that scholarship for his family so he has to play in the game even if the stupid fucking camera predicts him getting majorly hurt in it.

Essentially, Isaiah is constantly trying to hold the whole world on his shoulders and he never confides in anyone about it. The pressure is left to eat him alive and everyone else is left believing he’s whining about small issues because his life is perfect, when really he’s so overwhelmed by everything going on and his own expectations for himself that he legitimately doesn’t have enough room left in his own head to worry about others.

Now, with that all being said, let’s talk about the camera:

The Biddle camera roughly works like this: take a picture of somebody and that picture will show that person gravely injured or dead. These situations will inevitably happen but can be stopped before they actually lead to death. Isaiah, as the one who found and is linked to the camera, is the only one who can see the pictures and the image disappears as soon as he tries to show anyone else.

Now there are three pictures taken in Say Cheese and Die! Two by Isaiah, who takes one of Allison and one of Margot the night of the party. Then one by James’ clone, which is of Isaiah. Allison and Margot are both depicted dead in their photos, however Isaiah managed to save both of them from their own doom. He takes on the responsibility of saving them and manages to do so, because Isaiah is reliable and comes through for those he cares about.

Isaiah’s fate is different. See, Isaiah tries to warn both James and Margot about the camera and moreover what he’s dealing with. Due to the photos disappearing though James (or, his clone, but that’s not really the point) doesn’t believe Isaiah and essentially belittles his seemingly stupid complaints, snapping Isaiah’s picture and making the issue worse. Then, when Isaiah goes to Margot she also does not believe him and tells him he is selfish and never worries about anyone but himself, unaware Isaiah had put together her picture and came rushing to save her.

Isaiah is stuck dealing with the camera issue on his own, similar to how he’s constantly stuck dealing with his struggles with pressure and expectation on his own because he never truly confides in anyone. Isaiah then succumbs to his own pressure and enters the game where he ends up brutally hurt, ironically dashing his chances at a scholarship.

The message is pretty clear: If you bottle up and try to deal with everything on your own and try to take on the responsibility of the whole world you are going to eventually cave and snap beneath the pressure, which will just end up hurting you more in the long run.

FROSTTALE: Master Post

Frosttale is an au I made over two years ago now, and quite a few things have changed since i made the original concept on discord. At this point nearly every character has a finalized design and the story is complete, so i think its time i made it more mainstream!!!

Opening Cutscene:

Long ago, two races ruled over earth: humans and monsters

One day tragedy struck, a blizzard worse than any before it struck the human village and the humans believed the monsters to be the cause.

The humans fought the monsters, and sealed them into a cave, using magic to curse them with eternal cold

Many monsters suffered, and more died.

PRESENT DAY:

Legend has it that a furnace powered by seven human souls could stop the winter and break the ice barrier that seals them underground

MT. EVEREST, 202X

They say those who climb this mountain may never return.

(Thingy of chara falling into the underground blah blah blah game starts)

Ok so time for the changes!!!

this au centers around everything being cold, duh.

The most major change is that undyne is dead due to the extreme temperatures, and that drives nearly every other change in the au.

Alphys found her goop stuff after she died, scooped it up and saved it. Since then has been secretly using the royal scientist funds not for technological development but in an attempt to revive undyne.

One day, papyrus is walking around in waterfall, looking for undyne in a hope that somehow, he could find her (he doesn’t know that she’s dead, sans told him she’s just missing). Alphys sees him, and sees an opportunity (he has a similar body shape to undyne), she persuades him to come to the lab, then she knocks him out cold (see what I did there)

Papyrus wakes up a few hours later tied to a table and has a couple of wires and containers hooked up to him, most notably two labeled “remains” and “DT”

Due to the fact that he’s tied down papyrus is stuck there.

A few minutes later Alphys walks into the room and tells him that he will be ok, and tells him that if the procedure works, papyrus can be part of the royal guard, when papyrus asks what the procedure is, Alphys doesn’t answer.

Slowly, papyrus goes back to sleep, and the vials are all injected into him.

Once he wakes up again, he is now in a bed in a room that is similar to undynes, and is wearing a suit of armor also similar to undynes clothing.

Alphys walks in and tells papyrus that she cannot tell him where he is, and that he will stay here for the next few months.

Over the next few months papyrus is nurtured by Alphys, but notices something, Alphys is getting increasingly more stressed, and is now preforming daily checkups on him, and soon papyrus starts to notice something else.

Flesh.

Papyrus is growing flesh on his bones.

Flesh with scales.

And something else, papyrus feels much more determined and stronger in general, along with the sudden ability to be able to summon and throw spears as well as bones now.

However, the flesh doesn’t completely cover him, only parts of his limbs and face. He also loses vision in his left eye and needs an eyepatch, soon the changes stop.

Alphys realizes that her attempt at bringing undyne has failed and slowly realizes what she has put this innocent monster through. she leaves the lab and takes after her mentor, jumping into the core and killing herself.

Alphys has created Papyryne (name is a wip lmao).

Papyryne never found the key to leave the true lab, and has turned to be the caretaker of the other amalgamates, He has a lot of physical traits of undyne, while keeping most of the personality of papyrus, meaning he is now actually able to do the good deeds he once wanted to do. He makes the true lab look nicer, and treats the amalgamates like family

During all those shenanigans Sans has become very very lonely and quite depressed. He looks for papyrus everyday and can’t find him. He spends most of his time in his house or the judgement hall, or at least, he did.

Sans does end up meeting toriel, and in fact is at the door when you fight her, However sans never made his promise to not kill a human to toriel, as he feels that if there is an opportunity to melt the ice, he should take it.

After you leave the ruins, sans will have run away and back to his house. As you go through Snowdin, all of papyrus’ puzzles are completely frozen over and easily passable, and there are no monster encounters.

When you reach snowdin, no one is there either, they all either left or died, sans and papyrus, being skeletons, are the only ones who were able to survive the cold.

The river is completely frozen solid, and the ice cube machine is backed up with ice. When you reach the area where you would normally fight papyrus, sans will sneak up on you and start a battle.

The battle is different depending on weather you killed toriel or not. If you haven’t, sans is simply fighting you out of obligation, and the fight is very easy. After a few turns of acting and sparing, sans starts to cry a little. He doesn’t want to kill anyone, stating the underground has lost enough, and spares you. If you attack, the screen turns black and then you go back to the overworld. no sans in sight. If you do not attack, sans will not say anything, and go back to his house.

If you did kill toriel, the fight is a bit harder, but after a few turns, sans will run away regardless of what you do to him.

Entering waterfall, everything is frozen over, and again there is no life to be seen. There are two places of intrest, the old tem village (the new one will be mentioned later) where you can grab some nice items, and the village.

Upon entering the main area (the one with the save point and houses) you will encounter all three ghost characters, alphys was too obessed with reviving undyne to build mettaton, and undyne wasnt alive to need a training dummy (mad mew mew still happens post game btw).

Mad dummy forces the other two to attack you, napstablook being shy and mettaton being generally depressed (due to lack of body) dont really care too much, but fight you for their cousin anyways.

At the end of waterfall, they fight you one at a time (mirroring the multiple undyne fight segments). You can spare them by promising MTT and Mad Dummy that youll get them bodies (witch then becomes a pacifist quest), and letting blooky show you dapper blook.

Entering hotland youll notice everything is mostly ashen and gray, most of the lava having been turned to stone. You begin by passing through alphys's lab (nothing happens there... yet) and making your way to where MTT resort would have been, youll notice that as you enter hotland (now called "The Refuge" by most monsters) you can encounter monsters from anywhere in the previous areas.

Approaching the MTT resort location, youll instead find a bustling town called "New Snowdin", featuring Grillbys 2, a closed down nice cream stand, a royal guard sign up center, and... a massive cemetary.

In the cemetary youll find graves for muffet and lesser dog, as well as memorials for alphys, sans, and papyrus (the latter two being presumed dead by the public)

When attempting to enter the core, the door will be locked and have a sign saying "ROYAL GUARD ONLY", promting you to visit the sign up center.

You can sign up to the royal guard and enter the core, eventually getting on the elevator to the castle.

When you reach the top, youll be met by a hill, climbing on top of it youll find sans, he will explain that youre standing on top of the judgment hall, its been covered in snow

He says that for a long time, monsters have hated the king for his "wait out the humans" idea, and activley tried to revolt, promting the closing of the core to the public. He says that you are the final human needed, and sadly, you must die.

He then sends you off to asgore.

When you arrive, asgore brings you in for tea, sitting down with you in front of a large unpowered furnace with seven heart shaped slots, and explaining youre the first person willing to do so in quite some time.

He then escorts you to the barrier, and the fight begins. During the fight, your hp will drain very slowly due to the proximity of the barrier, being that it is what emmits the cold.

At the end, he reaches his final bit of hp, and then does something drastic.

You may have noticed a lack of flowey while reading this and thats because, well, he doesnt exist. flowers dont grow in these temperatures, and even if they could, alphys wouldnt have made him.

Asgore turns his back, and swings his trident, destroying the containers of souls, destroying them.

A second phase begins, he is now much powerful and has much more health, but eventually soul segments similar to those omega flowey has occur, and you can eventually defeat him.

You are then given the option to kill or spare him, if you kill, you recive the six souls and can break the barrier, if you spare, he takes you in as his own, and the game ends with you going to sleep in his castle.

This means that yes, there is no true pacifist run (but there is something similar...)

(Almost) PACIFIST EXCLUSIVE EVENTS:

If you have spared everyone, the elevator to the hill will collapse, bringing you to the true lab, where you can meet papyryne, he will treat you with kindness... at first.

He eagarly shows you around the lab, introducing you the amalgamates who he has lovingly named Puppy, Birdy, Snowy, Goopy, and Whispy.

However, as he shows you around youll begin to notice times where the font he is speaking in changes, and he becomes more agressive.

You can see the following entries on the walls:

Entry 1:

I found what I believe to be undynes remains today, something’s off though, it isn’t dust… it’s goop

Entry 2:

I’ve stored her remains down here, I plan to begin doing tests on it, seeing how she could have possibly gained DETERMINATION

Entry 3:

The DT extractor broke today, it will be a while untill it is fixed

Entry 4:

The memory heads keep looking around my shelf, spouting nonsense like “still there” or “don’t forget”

Entry 5:

The DT extractor is up and running again, I’m preforming some diagnostics, then tests begin tomorrow

Entry 6:

This is impossible

Entry 7:

I’ve made a discovery, in undynes remains, although there is only a fragment… her SOUL… is still there.

Entry 8:

The tests have been stopped, I’m attempting to recover some old files about the amalgamates

Entry 9:

Just as I thought, the records show that monster souls, when in their weakened state, can fuze, the most dominant soul taking the consciousness

Entry 10:

I took a small portion on undynes remains today and gave it to one of the amalgamates in their food, so far, nothing has happened

Entry 11:

It’s no problem, I simply need a bigger sample size, and perhaps a more stable monster with a complete soul, unlike the amalgamates

Entry 12:

I found a shyren today, I’ve lured it here and and captured it, I will be preforming the same experiment I did with the amalgamate

Entry 13:

…

Nothing is happening

Entry 14:

The shyren lost Vision in one eye today, though I am not sure if this is related to the experiment

Entry 15:

The shyren has been knocked out for 3 days now, I’ve hidden her body in the bathroom

Entry 16: I beleive I have found a new candidate for an experiment, this next experiment could be very very interesting.

As you are about to leave with him, freeing him from the lab, undyne takes over and he fights you. the fight is difficult by interchanging blue and green soul mechanics, the final attack using a combination of both.

You are forced to spare, as you cant damage him, and his fit of rage will end, he then will leave the lab with you and youll fast travel back to snowdin, reuniting him with sans.

You can then go back to the elevator and everything else will play out the same, with some additional sans dialouge at the end.

GENO EXCLUSIVE EVENTS:

You have to do like. a shit ton of grinding in hotland. You also have to do the ghost quests so you can kill them.

You reach level 14 and thats the highest you can get, you then take the elevator.

Once you reach the hill, you meet sans. He doesnt say anything, and a fight begins.

"it was a nice day today"

"can you see the snow sparkling in the light?"

"..."

"of course not"

"no one like you would stop to appreciate that"

"it was already bad down here, why did you have to make it worse"

"..."

"not much of a talker..?"

"me neither"

"but..."

"heres the thing"

"you see... king asgore needs one more soul"

"and youve got a nice one ripe for the taking"

"so... heres what im going to do"

"i am going to fight you"

then you fight, and at the end a similar cutscene to the one in UT will play, exept he doesnt ask papyrus if he wants anything.

you then go to asgore, and everything will play out as normal, exept you arent allowed to spare him.

Hoppo is absolutely cracked at almost any game she plays. Girl would definitely have the best gaming set up (if they play video games in that universe I'm not entirely sure how the bug globe works lol)

Hoppo is skilled with multiple weapons and firearms

Don't let her drive 💀 Like she can drive, and very well, but don't let her

Curls up and sleeps like a dog/cat

Knows she's the tallest and will sometimes rub it in subtly (like she'll never state it outright, but she'll randomly stand over Bugbo and look down and *insert the little laugh she does here*)

She likes fast, thrashy, wacky, discordant music (see: Assault and Batteries by INK or Magical Doctor by Maretu)

Has a little place full of "neat things" that she collects which is just a bunch of random crap she's picked up, from a uniquely shaped leaf to bones from the battlefield

To her, pranking and scaring people is silly fun shenanigans

Loves scaring Thomas in particular, but in a slightly more malicious sense, as he was planning to kill one of her friends lol

Like despite her constant absences, she does care about them

Gerbo:

Even though he isn't the brightest, he definitely has the best heart out of all of them

Despite Bugbo's....passive aggressive behavior toward him, Gerbo still loves him (platonically) with his whole heart

Though he does get along really well with Gradient Joe in particular

I think they get ice cream together (can Joe eat...? With the no mouth...?)

A Goofy Goober™️

He also has a collection of little things, but it's less...concerning than Hoppo's, like shiny or special rocks, cool or different colored leaves, etc. and proudly shows them off to people who are willing to look and listen

It's not too hard for him to get shut down/discouraged, but he perks up just as easily

Maybe for the darkworld arc, the kids go exploring in the underground (if the skelebros hasn't moved everything to surface) and they were trying to find the bros, or traces, whatever. They find sans lab or w/e and the covered machine.. Maybe mess with the machine, press a few buttons, shenanigans happened and into the fake(?) dark world they go

You know what? I like this. Tho my one problem is that it's been 5 years and Chara isn't allowed to leave Monsterland... BUT they could of moved their Entire Literal House to the surface. So if anything, this is the most logical way for them to get into the hijinks.

Fjdjdjd maybe over the years the house has gotten roughed up, exposed to the elements. Its rumored to be haunted (maybe Mew Mew is staying there instead of at alphys. She's not a ghost anymore BUT she did stay in the bone brother's house to run the casino. She can live there, as a treat)

Anyways Susie wants to prove she's tough and convinces Chara to double dog dare investigate. This leads up to Susie breaking into the secret lab.

So now we have justification of HOW they get to.... wherever it is they're going to.

I still don't know how this fake darkworld.... pocket au... thing. Is going to be. A friend on discord said I could use one of my favorite OCs who needs a good home (The fangames she was going to be in keep getting cancelled. )

It sucks. There's probably something more eloquent I could say, but it just...sucks.

It's so surreal to have your own world rocked and then watch the rest of the world just...continue like everything is normal. And you have to keep doing normal things. I'll think of something and burst into tears at my keyboard while writing up text for a proposal and answering an email from a coworker. Such a bizarre liminal space to be in.

I've lost people in my life, but never one with such a strong digital footprint. It's a gift in a lot of ways. I can read back through her blog. I can scroll back through Discord. I can listen to her Spotify music, read her fic. I'm so grateful I liveblogged a lot of multiplayer adventures, because some of those shenanigans are still there for me to look back on. But right now I'm just so fucking sad that her digital spaces are now a memorial to her, not something living and breathing and changing and...continuing.

One of the songs on her memorial playlist is Vigil from Mass Effect. A while back I saw a post that describes that track as like getting a hug from someone you'll never see again, and I feel that in my bones.

We have 2 types of mods this year: regular Mods, who are in charge of planning and organizing the event as well as modding the discord server, and Reading mods, AKA Rods, who will help the regular mods to read ALL the fics that participants will write during the event. ⸝⸝ tl;dr : a sleepless night turns into a trip down memory lane for mordecai heller, who usually prefers to keep his memories buried deep deep down.

⸝⸝ note : this is purely self-indulgent ! so expect an unedited work, a very ooc mordecai, and a ton of headcanons that i shoehorned into the oneshot. this was made with the intention of contributing something to the lackadaisy fandom, so i do hope it's still enjoyable regardless of the shenanigans i put in . (also, to everyone in the discord that sees this, im so sorry)

It was on one of these nights when Mordecai Heller would find himself tossing and turning in bed, rustling the sheets he normally kept so pristine. Nights where his alcohol pick-ups with the Savoys lead to bone-crushing exhaustion. Nights where time seemed to slow down after fights with rival speakeasies, emphasizing the way his muscles tense and his wounds throb. Nights where the lull of cicadas and frogs outside his bedroom window gave way to thoughts and memories he normally kept under lock and key.

Memories - something that Mordecai preferred to stay away from, something that he keeps buried under layers of tough, unbreakable soil. And yet, in this warm summer night, with the moonlight filtering through the windows and the crickets chirping their trance-inducing song, Mordecai finds himself taking a reluctant walk down memory lane, lured in by some unknown entity who takes his hand in wisps of silver and gold. Who opens each door in his house of memories and grins with delight when the can of worms come crawling out from the front porch. Who reminds him, like a breeze of wind rustling his ear, that days have been better. That they have been more joyful, more vibrant than whatever he's experiencing right now.

And it was on one of these nights that ruthless gunman and rumrunner Mordecai Heller would succumb to his feelings. He'd let them flow, like salty silk ribbons, down his cheeks, his chin, releasing all that he's been bottling up in one fell swoop of tears and sobs. He'd sit up in bed and hug himself like how he used to when he was a child, and let his cries wash over him as he grieves for everything he's lost.

Viktor. Rose. Esther. Atlas, Rose, Esther, Viktor. Viktor.

Viktor, the closest thing he's had to family since he left his ; who tolerates his ramblings and rants about asymmetry and germs ; who's been a pillar Mordecai can hang on to in times where everything's too much. On nights like this, Mordecai finds himself longing for Viktor's presence. Anything could do - his gruff voice, his one-eyed glare, just ... anything to make him feel like he's back at Lackadaisy again.

Mordecai hugs himself tighter, rocking back and forth on the mattress. He shuts his eyes amidst the tears flowing from closed lids, and out from his mouth comes a thin keening. A shaky breath, a gasp for air, and then a whispered, "I want to go home."

Home, with its worn couch with the coffee stains and water rings. Home, with the clotheslines stringing from pillar to pillar, laden with drying coats and scarves. Home, with the sounds of laughter and high-pitched shrieks and sibling arguments. Rose and Esther. Rose and Esther. One shining from the inside with bubbly smiles, the other almost a carbon copy of himself with those moody eyes and those moody glasses.

"I want to go home, I want to go home," he says, over and over again, like a wish that would come true if he just said it enough. If he just believed enough.

And he wouldn't have known he had fallen asleep if it weren't for him waking up the chirps of robins and sparrows with his eyes sore and swollen. He'd stare at the ceiling in silence for a moment, before getting up and making his bed. Taking a shower. Buttoning his suit up. Locking the door behind him. On mornings after nights like these, Mordecai Heller would keep his memories under lock-and-key again as he steps out into the fast-moving world of guns, alcohol, and blood.

So, I have thoughts on Vash’s metal implants, and yall are stuck here with me so glhf and uh tw for for body horror, medical shit, implants shenanigans, and hammering in the thought that vash isn't human (and looking back, potentially there's another commentary on body autonomy in there but its 10pm and my brain is fried)

so: vash has prosthetics, which may pretty much also include his legs, except these are prosthetics and judging by their appearance in tristamp they are made of “lost technology” aka future tech by our current modern standards.

That’s great! less worry about incompatibility and all that material corrosion and etc because future people have likely figured it out or at least have some semblance of ahaha yeah so this material is a bad idea or that material is great for biocompatibility.

So, his prosthetics are… probably fine, if only because they’re lost tech and so i’m setting those aside. Probably. Ignoring the fact that he isn’t human and his biology probably processes all of this shit somewhat different from our own and thus the biocompatibility will also differ and that’s a whole another can of worms.

What I do want to talk about are *waves hand at the entire man* the rest of him. The bolts, the grate, the literal metal bands like *what-*

The thing about biocompatibility is that as defined by the fad, it is the ability of a device material to perform with an appropriate host response in a specific situation” And these situations differ: what you might use for a dental filling (amalgamation alloys that may contain mercury) to grafts to metallic hip implants, they’re all made of different shit to accommodate what they’re their for, and for their environment. Hip implants are made to last, but there are also bone screws that have been developed that are supposed to only stick around long enough that the bone heals and then it just- dissolves in the process. It could almost be seen as a brief replacement, shrinking while bone is recovering, and all those fun shenanigans. gist is, there is a *large* variety in what materials can be used and for what function, and they’re tailored for humans. for humans that aren’t built to last to begin with (fuck evolution).

Vash is the nearest thing to an immortal in a world based off a mash of the wild west and space operas, with a heavy emphasis on the wild west. Those grates and screws and metallic brands, those do not look like the handiwork of the space opera side of things.

So sometime in the past, Vash was injured enough just somewhere in no man’s land that they used those things to keep him alive, provide some sort of support that his injured body couldn’t.

Biocompatibility: the right material for the right time, right place, right situation. Imagine vash waking up, groggy from sedative or whatever that had kept him down, and realizing that there was *metal* in his body- yes its keeping him alive, or maybe only for a little while, but the body is capable of great feats of re-engineering and Vash? Vash will walk the dunes for more years then the average human can fathom now has implants in his body that were fashioned for humans, based on human use.

Even if the material won’t corrode (unlikely: unless they got access to titanium and other alloys, had the tech to *develop* how to use these materials and the years needed to test them. steels are among the fastest to corrode, while copper and nickel causes other issues) then there’s the issue of mechanical failure. normally not an issue! but good *gods* the scrapes vash has gotten into.

This is like an entire stream of conscious word voimit from moi, but i guess its just- imagine: Vash isn’t human, Vash practically doesn’t age, Vash is the closest thing to immortal on this planet, and now he’s woken up and there’s these implants made to last in humans, except they’re in *him*.
