Running To Get To You
Sam was fiddling with his sunglasses, wiping them clean, and looked over at his brother, "Dean, you need to hold onto his leash better."
Dean rolled his eyes, "Nah, come on," he bounced the leash in his hand, "Bones isn't going to go anywhere, in fact, I can let go, and-"
As soon as Dean opened his palm, freeing the leash from his grasp, Bones took off up the hill. Neither Winchester could react fast enough to stop him.
Dean pressed his lips into a straight line, "That wasn't supposed to happen."
"You are the worst," Sam said, tossing his glasses down, running off in the same direction as his dog. Cursing Dean with every step.
As he ran, you heard him shouting, "Bones!" Dean put his head down in shame and turned to his wife. She had her lips pressed in a tight line, raising her eyebrow at her husband.
"In my defense," Dean said, "Bones is pretty well trained." She shook her head in disappointment but still looked up with a smile.
Something told Dean he shouldn't admit that he's let go of the leash several times before, even today. Which is why he was so confident in Bones staying put, he'd just be digging his grave if he said so.
"Except for the fact that we're at a public park, with thousands of distractions, like squirrels and frisbees," She patted his hand, "He's very well trained but he's still an excited pup."
"Go fix your mistake, I'll hold down the fort," Cassie promised, she motioned with her head up the hill, "Come on, you know you should."
"Yeah, yeah. Alright," He said, quickly pressing his lips against her forehead, "I'll be back."
"And don't make an ass out of yourself," She said, returning a kiss on his nose. He waved her off knowing his mouth would probably get him in trouble. It usually does.
-------------------------------------------------------
Sam continued to shout, "Bones!" He spotted the pup about to run someone down.
"Bones! Halt!" Sam shouted with a whistle, and like the good dog he is, he immediately stopped. Right on someone's foot. Shit.
He made his way over to Bones hearing, "Oh, hello." Giving the dog a little wave, with a head tilt. Bones made no movement to get off the man's foot. He just continued to pant and barked a hello to him back.
Sam got up there, "Bones. Come on, buddy," fully expecting the pup to walk over and listen. However, Bones stayed put.
Sam sighed and walked over, picking up his leash, "I am so sorry, I would never intentionally let him roam like this." He did a slight pull but the dog just shook his head.
"May I pet him?" The stranger asked, making eye contact, now up close, Sam noticed, this is a very handsome stranger.
"Yeah, go ahead," Sam said, trying to hide his blush. Looking down, letting his hair fall in his face.
With the permission granted, the man bent down and scratched behind Bones' ear, "He's a fast runner."
"Yeah, that's for sure." Sam said, shaking his head. A little too fast.
"So Bones?" The man asked, and Sam blew some air out, not the first time he's gotten that.
He shrugged, and gave a weak, "He likes them."
"Very creative." Sam didn't miss the slight, or what he thought was, teasing. The little curl that pulled up his lips was so small, it was difficult to tell if Sam had imagined it.
Sam shook out his hair with a nervous hand, "I am not that great at naming things."
"Better than naming your dog after a physical attribute like spots," Not that this dog had any. But the man had heard too many dogs called such a name, Bones, it was a better name for sure.
"Barely," Sam said, and held a hand out, "my name is Sam."
The man looked at Sam's hand, with careful consideration, and shook his hand, "Castiel."
"Your parents are much better at naming than me and my parents." Sam joked.
"No, Sam is fitting," Castiel said, looking at Sam with such sincerity, "Very fitting."
Dean saw them, and ran up behind his brother, setting a hand on his shoulder, "See you got him, no harm no foul!"
"Dean, he could have run into the street." Sam said exasperated, shaking his head at his older brother.
"But he didn't." Dean argued.
Sam sighed heavily, "You are unbelievable."
"I can take him for you-" Dean offered with a hand out that Sam swatted away.
"Nope," Sam said, "you lost that privilege."
Dean shrugged and pointed up to Castiel, "Who is the flasher?"
Mortified, Sam shoved Dean, "You don't have to say everything you think, Dean."
"My name is Castiel." Thankfully ignoring the comment. Although, his eyebrows were knitted together in a glare that Sam was glad wasn't pointed at him.
"That name sounds familiar." Dean said, ignoring the hostility coming from Cas.
Sam patted for Bones who finally got off of Castiel's shoe, "It's angelic."
Dean nodded, "Oh, that makes sense."
Castiel tilted his head, quite surprised, "You two know angelic names?"
"Yeah, that's mainly due to our Dad." Sam answered. Dean gave Sam a knowing look, they knew that name after Sam got obsessed with angels, and would ramble on about them for hours. Didn't matter how insignificant they seemed to be, Sam held them all high in regards.
"Dad?" Castiel repeated, sounding nearly hopeful.
"Oh, we're brothers," Sam explained, pointing between him and Dean, "that's the only reason we hang out."
"Excuse me," Dean huffed, offended, "I am a delight."
"No," Sam looked him up and down, "You are not."
"I am," Dean defended and looked back up at their bystander, "You busy flasher?"
"If you keep calling me that, yes. Incredibly so." Castiel said, crossing his arms.
"Fine, Cas," Dean said, "you wanna hang out with us? My brother brought his dog to avoid being the third wheel."
Sam glared at his brother and let out a deep breath, "I brought Bones because he needed the exercise."
"Sure." Dean dismissed, rolling his eyes.
"I have some time to spare." Castiel answered, interrupting their fight.
Sam's face lit up, "Really?"
"Yes." Castiel answered, with a smile.
Dean looked at the two, God, he hopes they don't take forever to realize they're making heart eyes at each other, "Come on, we got a spot down there." Dean said, already walking away. Not bothering to wait for them.
"Is your brother always like this?" Castiel asked Sam, watching how in sync Sam and Bones were.
"No," Sam said, shaking his head, "he can be much worse."
Pulling a soft laugh out of Castiel, it was music to Sam's ears, "It's a good thing I have you as a better company."
"I'm not that great either." Sam warned.
"I'll be the judge of that," Castiel said, gently, "you have a personal bias." Placing a hand on Sam's shoulder, "So far, I like the company."
"I like your company too." Sam replied, patting Castiel's hand. Maybe he could forgive Dean for letting Bones go, just maybe.

Reach And Flexibility
Series: Fluff Is My Jamstiel
Fandom: Supernatural:
Pairing: Sastimmy/Jamstiel (Jimmy Novak/Sam Winchester/Castiel)
Rating: General to Teen and Up
Tags/Warnings: Witch Sam Winchester, Hunter Novak Brothers, Jimmy and Castiel Are Twins, Brief Allusions to Canon-Typical Violence
Summary:The hunt wrapped up faster than expected, meaning John Castiel and James Constantine Novak can make a detour back to Palo Alto, California, that much sooner. When they actually use the spare key that Sam Wesson gave them, however, they discover that their witch friend is a bit more bendy than either of them realized.
For: @fluffyfebruary challenge!
Prompt: Day 6: Stretch
Read on AO3
HOW OFTEN DO we get to have a hunt go this perfectly?" James Constantine Novak asked as he shoveled a load of dirt back into the open grave of the late, lamented, and now finally put thoroughly to rest Agnes Masterson. A moment later, he yelped as his brother smacked him upwards across the back of his head.
"Don't jinx it," John Castiel Novak scolded as he gripped his own shovel and heaved another lump of dirt into the grave. "What have we learned to never, ever do until we are actually driving away from a completed hunt?"
"Come on, Cas, that was one--"
"Four."
"What?! No way--"
"Terra Haute, Aberdeen, Accokeek--"
"Dude, that wasn't even our fault!"
"We got caught in it, so I'm counting it."
The bickering lasted them through the filling of the grave and the repositioning of the grass over the top to at least somewhat disguise the disturbance, and they only wound down when, after a quick round of rock-paper-scissors to decide who had to drive, they fell into their aged but faithful Lincoln Continental and the engine was cranking to life. "How far do we have to get before we're good to find someplace to sleep?"
"Well," Jimmy said as he tugged a map out of the glove compartment and unfolded it to track their position. "We should probably go at least forty miles, but...."
"But?" Cas prompted just a touch impatiently. He was tired, damn it!
"Well, if you think we can keep going west for about three hundred and sixty-eight miles or so, we're not that far from Palo Alto," Jimmy finished.
Palo Alto. Sam! Cas felt the tiredness slipping away from his shoulders to be replaced by anticipation. It had been almost a month since they had seen the younger man, a month full of being dragged from one hunt to the next around half the country, and Cas had missed him. And if Jimmy was bringing up a four hundred and eight mile drive as an alternative to just going forty miles out of town to find a motel to crash in, Cas would bet his favorite silver blade that his brother had missed Sam too.
"We'll be getting there practically at dawn," he pointed out reluctantly as the mental calculations of distance and miles per hour that their poor old car could handle lined up.
"So we get there in time to have breakfast with Sam and Bones and then see them off to work before we fall into bed for a nap, maybe bring them lunch when we wake up," Jimmy said with a shrug. "And if Old Abe can push it enough that we get there before he's even awake, well, he did give us that key..."
"...and scolded us the last time we showed up when he was still at work and didn't make use of it," Cas finished, letting his forehead fall forward onto the steering wheel. "Of course."
It was all too easy, recalling the incident and Sam's exasperation upon finding the brothers sitting on his doorstep still dirty and ragged from the ghoul hunt they had just concluded. He felt an echo of that bloom of warmth that had swelled in his chest when he had realized that when Sam had told them to make themselves at home, he had really meant it. That, more than anything, made the decision easy.
"So... home, then?" he said, tasting the word on his tongue and finding it less of an awkward fit than he'd feared. He lifted his head from the steering wheel and looked over to find his brother beaming at him happily.
"Yeah," Jimmy nodded, tension already visibly slipping away from his frame. "Let's go home."
EVEN NEEDING TO stop for gas twice to ensure they weren't coasting into Palo Alto on fumes and to switch drivers after Jimmy got in a brief nap, they managed to coax the Lincoln into making the drive in only five and a half hours. Jimmy grabbed their duffles while Cas detoured to say hello to the grape vines curling on the trellis above the fence around the garden. Cas took the duffles from him when they got to the door so Jimmy could rifle through their keys for the one Sam had given them and, with a deep breath to steady his nerves, unlocked the front door to let themselves in.
The Lincoln's engine rumbled to life and they were on their way.
"Sam? Bones?"
"In the solarium!" a vaguely familiar voice, higher in pitch than Sam's, called back to them. Jimmy and Cas exchanged looks but followed the sound of the voice as it continued, "Would you both please tell Sam that it would make much more sense for me to be doing this in my usual form?"
"Don't even," came the more familiar sound of Sam's voice in an exasperated groan. "Just because the pose name has the word 'dog' in it does not mean you need to be a dog to do it!"
"Yoga poses aren't really chosen with a dog's range of movement in mind anyway," Cas called back to them as Jimmy stifled a snicker.
All thoughts of amusement fell away as the brothers finally reached the beaded curtain and pushed through it to enter the part of the house cheerfully called the "solarium". It was an octagonal room made almost entirely of glass, one that had not been a part of the house's original design but had been added on to a back door at some point before the Novaks had made Sam's acquaintance. The beaded curtain usually hung in front of a sliding door in the one wall that connected to the rest of the house, and was kept closed most of the time. On the far side of the room was another door that led into Sam's greenhouse, where he kept the plants that needed special attention and couldn't quite manage a peaceful coexistence with the rest of his garden.
The solarium itself was hardly devoid of plants, unobtrusive window boxes of lavender or mint against the glass that made for a pleasant aroma in the air. The few times before that Cas had happened upon the room before, there was usually an assortment of large pillows arranged in the middle of the floor like the perfect place for a man and his dog to curl up for a nap. The pillows were still there, but shoved over towards the walls in order to make room for the two yoga mats unrolled across the floor and the two toned and unclothed figures taking up those mats in the middle of a stretch that Cas distractedly identified as an Upward Facing Dog pose.
They both looked up and smiled at the Novaks' entrance, though the woman quickly wrinkled her nose. "You both smell like gasoline and smoke. Did you drive straight here from your last hunt?"
"The prospect of coming home to you both was more attractive than finding a motel to shower and crash in first," Jimmy answered, earning two beaming smiles as the witch and his familiar rolled back out of their stretches and carefully got to their feet. "Although showers would probably be a good idea now. Sorry for any grave dirt we tracked in."
"It'll clean, as will the both of you," Sam said with a shrug as he picked up a robe while the woman gave herself a quick shake and became a much more recognizable golden retriever. "How about you both stash your bags and clean up while I get dressed and start breakfast?"
"That sounds like an excellent plan," Cas agreed.
And if he was now planning for a cold shower, well, nobody else needed to know that.

Guess who just had a field day posting on Ao3?
Running To Get To You - Cassie, Dean, and Sam are out at the park, Sam decided to bring Bones. Unfortunately, Dean is still Dean, and let go of Bones' leash, and he took off, leaving Sam to run after him. And Bones decided to run right to a stranger, a very handsome stranger.
Heard Your Call - Castiel heard Sam's pleas, and found him in a motel room after relapsing with demon blood. Not wanting Sam to suffer, he offers a remedy, his own blood. And Sam hates that he takes it.
Coming Clean (First Comes Naps, Then Comes Marriage, And Sharing A Room? And Maybe A Few Things In Between.) - The two need to clean the apartment and they do, but not without some shenanigans.
Put Your Head On My Shoulder - Castiel takes Sam's advice on reading, genuinely finding enjoyment in it, however, Sam is very distracting. Especially when he lays his head on Castiel's shoulder to read with Castiel.
Anywhere But Here (Pity The Saved, Not The Damned) - As much as Sam misses Dean, and Castiel, there's a reason he's been away from them both. His visit only cements that further.
The Boy With The Angel's Grace - A rewrite of Let The Good Times Roll, specifically right after Lucifer steals and consumes Jack's grace.
