TOP 9 BOOKS
tagged by @wellhalesbells - Thank you! 💜
The Expanse Series by James S.A. Corey (Sci-Fi) - (I know its a series. No, it's not cheating) It's just- it's just my favourite, okay? It's found family on a spaceship, it's politics and aliens and epic and action-packed and spans decades and I LOVE ALL THE CHARACTERS WITH MY WHOLE HEART. (also, check out the tv show on Prime)
The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden (Fantasy/Historical) - (no, still not cheating) Russian folklore inspired fairytale taking place in medieval Russia
Doors of Sleep by Tim Pratt (Sci-Fi) - about a guy who involuntarily travels to a new alternate universe everytime he falls asleep. This gave me such a Doctor Who feel, I could have read a whole series of Zax just travelling from world to world.
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (Historical/Fantasy) - lets be honest, if you are at all in any kind of bookspace, you have heard of this book.
Recursion by Blake Crouch (Sci-Fi) - don't know what I can say about this without spoiling anything, but it's Blake Crouch, so it's a fast-paced top-tier Sci-Fi Thriller and this was the book that made me decide to read absolutely everything Crouch ever publishes (sneakily slipping Dark Matter in too - yeah, okay, that was cheating)
The Stand by Stephen King (Fantasy/Horror/Sci-Fi) - my favourite Stephen King so far - but that's not saying much, because he has written a gazillion books and I only read a fraction of them but...oh well. Post-apocalyptic (which I'm still not sick of) and a real chunky boy at about 1440 pages.
The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune (Fantasy) - this is just a hug in book form. it's cute as hell (iykyk) and magical and has the found family trope front and center.
The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson (Sci-Fi) - aaand we're travelling to alternate worlds again - what can I say, I like what I like.
The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling (Horror/Sci-Fi) - about a cave explorer who begins to think she might not be alone in that huge ass cave - and that she also maybe shouldn't trust her handler, who's in charge of her high-tech suit. Yeah, this really creeped me out.
Tagging: not really sure who I should tag for this so how about
If you made it this far, you're tagged. Yeah, you! Do you read books? I just tagged you. Go on, I would love to see the books you love.
Also shamelessly linking to my Storygraph and Goodreads accounts.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
Tumblr media
7/10
When I heard that there was going to be a prequel Hunger Games book I was genuinely excited. But then when I heard that it was going to be from President Snow’s perspective, I thought this could either be really, really good or really, really concerning.
I was fortunate to have been able to receive the audiobook version of this from my local library the day it was released. The story itself proved to be a bit better than I had expected it to be but, overall, it wasn’t for me.
Some good things:
First, it was really interesting to be able to see the early years of the Hunger Games. The arena that the 10th Hunger Games takes place in feels very Roman Coliseum in its structure. It is also cool to see how some things of the later games developed in these early years--including the betting and gifting of food.
I also enjoyed being able to see a different view of the Capitol. We know that much of the Capitol is built on wealth and luxury, so when we see Coriolanus struggles and starves in his early years we learn that not everyone is so well off. Rather, this shows that even its own people can suffer from lack of resources, further developing the intense class stratification in Panem. Not only does this offer a new view of the world of the Capitol, but it shows where Coriolanus’ hatred begins.
Lucy Gray’s music was a highlight of the novel. I loved seeing where some of Katniss’ songs originated, especially the famous Hanging Tree song.
Some things that weren’t for me:
I think I expected more of a slow burn with Coriolanus’ turn to evil. We did get a few small developments as the narrative progressed and we see how his PTSD of the war affects his decision to place his survival and interests above everything else. I just wish I could see more of this development in a proactive way.
Without spoiling it, I’m not the biggest fan of the ending. I wish we could have seen more of what happened between Coriolanus and Lucy. While this may be unpopular, I think it would have been a more impactful ending if he had done what he intended to do in the end and had to carry that experience. Leaving it up in the air may reflect the poem of Lucy’s namesake, but I would have liked to see more.
Finally, the pacing was a little tough for me. I liked that there were quieter moments that allowed us to really see how Coriolanus contemplates everything happening to him and find ways to survive. But when action scenes did appear, they felt a bit too fast. I always found myself wanting more (which is probably why the ending was not for me).
Overall, while this book does add more to shape the world of Panem we know in the Hunger Games books. I feel like this book is going to be one that fans will either completely love or find fault with.

💙[Mini Review]💙 A Curse so Dark and Lonely was a great retelling a beauty and the beast with unique twist. I feel in love with Brigid Kemmerer's stories again, I would recommended her other books like 'Letter to The Lost' and 'More Than We Can Tell' 😃 I really did adore this book, I loved Harper as a lead female, she was brave, rackless and headstrong 😊 I recommend it to everyone who enjoys retelling or YA fantasy. . . . . #bookstagram #bookreview #bookstagramfeature #bookrecommendations #bookish #bookstag #bookaddict #booklove #bookstagramindonesia #booknerd #bookworm #igreads #bibliophile #ilovebooks #bookphotography #bookstagrammer (at Timezone) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bt-gv_3lj3J/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ty3ae6ce48hw

✨ The universe does not carry debts. It always return back to you what you gave it. Be it positive karma or negative karma . As you sow, so shall you reap. 🍂 Karma by Mehul Kaku @kakumehul is the story of 4 people working together in a cubicle. It discusses about their journey from office colleague to friends. Parth and Monty are good office colleagues when one day two new employees, Shama and Mohi joined them. Monty has been struggling from his childhood to find better livelihood when he joins National Chemical Company. However, he's fed with daily office politics, his boss and less increment . Both Monty and Parth, landed in this job to have better livelihood but daily stuff has ruined their expectations. Shama and Mohi have their own stories. To know how this four come closer and adhere to each other, have a look at this book. 🌈 The plot is situated in corporate office. The storyline depicts the actual life of people within cubicles. The narration is very amusing and astounding at the same time. It shows how your karma will bear its fruit. 🙈 The characters specially Mohini has made a special place in my heart. While I felt extremely bad for Monty's condition. Shama's crispy attitude and Parth's nature were wonderfully described. Every character carries it own uniqueness and beautiful vibe. 📘 The way trainer explains about leadership and ethics in a company through game was outstanding . Also, the concept of Bookbar was brilliant. I loved the bond that protagonists share with each other. The end was wonderful. ☑️ Although the cover of the book gives the whole jest of book, I think there were chances of enhancement. 💙 Readers who love reading fiction books should go for it. #dishawithbooks #dishareads #akolabookblogger #bookpic #keepreading #bookwormlife #indianauthor #karma #mehulkaku #bookpassion #bookjunkie #bookbloggerhub #bookjunkie #ebookstagrammer #bookaddict #bookstag #booktography #booksandcoffee #bookreviewblog #bookmarks #bookrecs #womenwhoread #readtheworld #shortread #aprilreads #2022reads #bookmattic #bookloversofinstagram #readreadread #booknerdgian (at India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcNmO2RvtWd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
