i think people vastly overestimate azula and underestimate idk literally every other character in atla

i rewatched atla and im like 4 episodes away from the end and azula is not the girl you think she is. like yeah she's a prodigy but which member of team avatar isn't?

-sokka is a strategic genius and definitely has some sort of advanced math skill if not just pure inuition (think boomeraang, and helping w war balloons)

-toph mastered earthbending and created her own sub-bending before she hit teenage years

-aang was a fully mastered airbender by 12 and the fucking avatar

-katara is one of the strongest waterbenders like ever and out bloodbended her master on her first try

-suki can take on and take out most benders within the first minute of fighting them and has proven herself against ty lee

-and zuko for all intents and purposes is the most well rounded of all of them. he's a very skilled bender and martial artist with kicks strong enough to break through furniture

azula had the upper hand bc she was confident, skilled and an undetermined variable. she's clever and can outsmart most but what put her over the edge was her calm ruthlessness.

zuko couldn't defeat her until anger wasn't the emotion driving his bending and clouding his mind and the rest of the gaang aren't used to killing or fighting someone who really could kill them in a fair fight.

aang is not a fighter. most of the time he dodges and tries to end the fight quickly and never intentionally causes real damage but he is very capable of violence and fearsome when angry (ex. sand benders taking appa, invasion of the northern water tribe)

katara was still learning but by the time she fights azula in ba sing se they're essentially fighting in the same weight class and katara in her anger very well could have killed azula or done serious damage had zuko not interfered. which is WHY he interfered

toph is trickiest for me bc azula is agile and fast and can maneuver in the air so it might be hard to pin azula down without her jumping away or trying to use toph's blindness to her advantage but as long as azula has to touch the ground toph will figure out the timing

sokka just needs pawns. he isn't skilled enough to fight her on his own but he def can outsmart her or at least get the ball rolling.

suki need to get on her zoom! master some chi blocking so it's just 1 v 1 and then now y'all a bit more equal

i dont know if this will even amount to anything, but fuck it

you know in the beginning of A:TLA when Zuko first arrives in the Water Tribe and Sokka comes after him like a bat out of hell?

well its already known how badass Zuko is and hes known to just take down his enemy within five seconds, making them incapable of coming after him again, so why in the hell did he spare Sokka, not even fight him?

the entire time, zuko just sidesteps, avoids, and barely does any damage, while sokka is like, "take that, boomeraang upside the head," and then later on, "drown, bro, drown"

what i headcanon happened is, Zuko, the chaotic gay person he is, went, "oh damn, boy...cute boy...my own age...holy shit" and instantly didnt want to harm him

and yeah, you could say, "zuko just didnt want to harm him or make him incapable of harming him again because he realized sokka is a kid." but remember, zuko had been training from a young age, had been taught, that even kids are warriors. so no, i dont believe zuko would go easy on him for that reason.

zuko really saw this funky, clumsy, brave kid with big blue blue eyes, and short circuited.

I'm just waiting for that moment sokka accidently throws his boomeraang at Zuko's bf and he just catches it like its nothing and gives it back to sokka.

Being a dancer and performer, it makes sense he'd be that dextrous.
