This is my version of Kakashi’s mother and her name is Botan Hatake. She’s a kind woman with a lot of spunk, she’s considered quirky by others. She loves to collect pretty and unusual earrings.

❛ Whatever transpired, you're not innocent. ❜ To Orochimaru from Kakashi
((Apologies for how long this took. I had so many ways to go about this and typed them all up and had to choose x.x. Feel free to turn this into a starter and message me to work on a plot!))
Yuki no kuni would forever be the absolute bane of his existence. His head was turned away from his silent companion as he watched the big flakes of snow descend heavily. Botan-yuki. Yes they were quite lovely, but also so very cold. Snow had the uncanny ability to drink up any sound greedily, muffling it to a near oppressive quality, save for the steadily crackling fire between them. They had found themselves in a natural shelter of stone and tree after they were ambushed, forcing a delay with their return.
The flames consumed a log, eating through the middle until it collapsed, sending a cloud of acrid smoke and sparks into the air. Orochimaru directed his attention toward them, they were reminiscent of the fireflies back in Otogakure… it was at that moment the other chose to break his self-imposed silence.
Slowly, his eyes rose from the flames to meet the harsh, accusing gray of the Hatake's and he arched a brow. "I assure you, I had nothing to do with that.." he paused, mulling over his choice of words "Pitfall." His warden hardly looked pacified. "Tell me Hatake-sama, even if you had irrefutable proof of my innocence, I'll always be guilty. No matter what." It wasn't a question, more like a statement and a quiet sort of acceptance. He offered a small, wry smile toward the masked man. No undercurrent of biting venom.
One won't ever be able to experience true change until they've fully accepted all they have done and all that they are.
He had an eternity… After all.

Botan Kumanushi (熊主ボタン, Kumanushi Botan) is a kunoichi from Konohagakure. Optional: She’s the wife of Sakumo Hatake and mother of Kakashi Hatake.
Prior to entering the Ninja Academy, she met Maito Dai, who didn’t dare look at the names on the announcement paper, who made it into the Ninja Academy. Botan asked for his name so that she could look for both their names. After some hesitation, Dai told her his name, and she was quick to jump and hug him as they both got accepted into the academy. That was the start of their friendship; the two were inseparable while studying hard together. Dai was often discouraged by their fellow classmate, Sakumo Hatake, who excelled at everything. It annoyed Botan that Sakumo’s success discouraged her friend to the point he was about to give up. Going as far as to call Sakumo out for showing off in front of their fellow classmates.
Botan was an average student, while Dai was quite talented, but due to his performance anxiety, he didn’t score very high. It was because of Botan’s unwavering support and will of never giving up that Dai made it to Genin and was placed within the same team as her. Botan was so happy when they both made it through the Ninja Academy together. Their fellow teammate wasn’t as impressed with them as his teammates. Botan and Dai weren’t exactly popular back at the academy. Despite their rusty start, the team formed a strong bond in the next two years before joining the Chuunin exams. However, after they failed the Chuunin exams twice, their teammate left after Botan refused to leave Dai behind for a new team.
Botan and Dai participated in the Chuunin exams numerous times, but Dai kept failing due to his anxiety. Their former classmates stopped laughing and tried to pursue Botan to accept her new rank, but she refused over and over again. She would never leave her friend behind because she knew that Dai could do it. However, their rank didn’t matter anymore when war broke out. The Third Hokage had been carefully watching the both of them and knew that they weren’t at Genin level. They were placed among the elite Shinobi and fought alongside them. Dai showed that he was a true specialist in hand-to-hand combat, while Botan showed her tracking skills and fighting alongside her ferocious bear summoning.
During the war, their former classmate, Sakumo, gained the moniker White Fang. At some point during the war, he saved Botan and her bear companion when she refused to back down, leaving her friend behind. Dai soon joined them, as he wasn’t quick enough to come to his friend’s aid.
To be continued!

Naruto OC review for kakashianko of her oc — Botan Hatake Botan’s Bio
review under the cut
General
Botan Hatake appears to be a solid character, with a well thought out story. Even so, the rationality behind some choices that are made by some characters seems to be a little unexplained to me, leading to some slight confusion. A few things occur in her life without much explanation as to why. (I have marked these with an exclamation point further on.) With some slight tweaking and clarification, however, this character will be good as gold.
Appearance
I would have loved to see a colored in reference of this character, although I do get the gist of her general design from the included image. Her design is very simple, but feels appropriate. The shoes look unique but still fit in with the theme.
I am unsure on if she acts as a Konoha nin once she moves to the village, but if so, does she change her mission uniform?
Personality
She appears (for the most part) to be a very dependable kunoichi, and one that would be capable of mentally handling many situations.
I am unsure of how to take the fact that she is considered “extremely level headed” but below that, it says that her weakness is that she will do things that are considered extremely detrimental to her wellbeing in order to get people to trust her. In my opinion these personality traits are conflicting and don’t make much sense. (!)
Her personality seems to be slightly one-dimensional, with her descriptions just focusing on battles and sternness. The fact that she “squeaks while her face turns red” on rare occasions seems as though it was added in as sort of an afterthought in order to give her more than one emotion.
If she is hard to fluster, why would her first instinct be to “squeak and go red” right away? In my opinion, it would make more sense for a cool, calm, collected character such as herself to act a little bit more in control of such emotions, maybe denying her embarrassment while she blushes.
Relationships
I very much enjoy the fact that she and Tobirama did not end up falling head-over-heels in love with each other right as they were arranged to be married. I enjoy that it was a slower process.
The relationship she has with her parents seems mostly very believable and realistic for someone in her situation. I do however, have one specific question.
Why would her father give up his heir, the next in line to run the clan, in order to make peace with Konohagakure? There is no way that she would be able to run the clan whilst also located in a foreign village with the Hokage as her husband. (!)
At what age was she sent off to marry Tobirama? I don’t believe age was discussed when talking about any milestones in her life.
I also appreciate the fact that her love life was not perfect, and that her husband DID eventually perish. It creates more depth to the situation of her being pregnant at the time, making for some real thought as to how she would cope with the situation. I like that she eventually did “move on” but never really forgot about her first husband.
Ninja Info
I feel as though this character is talked about as being a very strong, skilled ninja, but whilst looking at her stats, all I seem to notice is very average skills. They’re solid stats, but nothing in my mind that pushes me to say “wow!” like all of the characters in this storyline are seeming to do.
Why is this character considered to be amazing in the ninja world, other than the fact that she is the heir to her clan? (!)
If she is well versed in kenjutsu, as I am lead to believe due to the fact that it is mentioned that she does well with a tanto and other weapons, it might benefit including that in the ninja stat’s section.
Also, if she is using ninja weapons such as tanto, I feel like it wouldn’t be much use if her ninja strength is really at a 1 out of 5. I would suggest either raising that number or rethinking what methods she uses to fight.
What method does she use to be a sensory type ninja? I know she can sense chakra, but what ability of hers enables her to do this? (!)
History
Although I very much enjoy the idea of the Hatake clan stemming from Kumogakure, therefore explaining their lightning nature, it doesn’t really make much sense to me as to how that would work out from my own standpoint. If Botan is the first Hatake to end up in Konohagakure, during Hashi/Tobirama’s period, how does it become an actual clan based out of Konohagakure in future generations instead of continuing to be a Kumogakure based clan? Especially since her children are only half-Hatake and the lineage would be very diluted before it go to, say, Kakashi’s era. (!)
What happens to Botan’s home after Tobirama is murdered? (I’m assuming you’re going with the normal history of him being murdered by Kinkaku and the Kinkaku force, from Kumo?) I feel as though tensions would be high with her in Konoha, as even though KInkaku was considered a criminal at this time, he was still a Kumo nin. Is her new husband from Konoha? Or somewhere else? Was she treated differently by the villagers if she did stay in Konoha?
Is she allowed to work as a ninja from Konoha, or even though she is living in Konoha, is she still a Kumo nin?
Once Botan marries Tobirama, does the alliance get put back into place
Does Botan eventually become the head of the clan?
Xoxo gossip girl

CREAM AU I refuse to believe that Kakashi doesn't actually know how to do taxes. Like inheritance money from Hatake Clan and therefore money not an issue sure maybe but like Minato was an orphan???? Boy was orphaned then picked up by Minato at some early stage in his life so like. Money management. It had to be some kind of thing even if he was bad at it. Now see if he saw Botan and went "I'm so sorry Minato-sensei but I'll be throwing your money management coaching right out the window" well. Well then. I see you metaphorical pigtail puller Kakashi.
Kakashi's the queer who can do math but it's a trauma response so no one actually wants to make him do it.
So yeah Kakashi was getting by but Minato absolutely gathered Kakashi's finances up and made some investments and the like, things to help the Hatake estate flourish instead of sitting stagnant. Gave Kakashi some pointers and the like to make sure he'd be okay.
But then everything happened starting with Obito and going all the way to when Minato died and Kakashi didn't really care too much about money or his estate after that. Didn't care too much about anything really.
He did what he had to to get by and never really paid much attention to any of it. Figured that if someone had a problem Sarutobi would say something.
But no one ever does because it's Kakashi.
Right up until the moment Botan can't take it anymore and storms into the jonin lounge to chew him out.
And that basically seals their fate.

File purge - Untitled
(AKA the one with switching POVs with Team 7, witch!Naruto, time loops, Hatake Kakashi holding the damn line against the demons, and Naruto predicting the arrival of Senju Hashirama 600 years before it happens). (AKA I wrote this fic in 2015; you guys, I was in a mood). (AKA the last one left over in my archives; I’ll eventually format it for A03 once I give it a name)
1. SASUKE
The messenger arrives when Sasuke is elbow-deep in the innards of a deer, pulling out the intestines in a steaming, wet pile of red hues.
The snow around him is melting from the waning body heat of the dead animal, running pink and murky around Sasuke. It’s a cold morning, clouds overhead so that even so long past sunrise, it feels like they’ve lingered in the grey twilight hours.
He can hear the bustle and noise of camp a hundred yards away: men and women’s voices rising in unison, dogs barking, and restless horses. The children are awake too, and he can hear them parroting their lessons in the field, reciting chakra pathways and tenketsu that Tayuya and Kimimaro are listing. Jugo had told him in no uncertain terms that he was expected to spend the afternoon training the older children in their lessons today, and Sasuke had begrudgingly agreed.
The younger ones need to see the leader, need to be reminded of whose orders they are to obey, whose authority they are expected to lay their life down for.
The morning, though, is his to spend however he wants. Suigetsu and Jugo are going through the various concerns of the tribe—the small quarrels that have arisen in Sasuke’s absence, the issue of who can establish their tents where, patrols, the digging of trenches and stake walls and what to do about the solstice that lies ahead. If there’s anything worth bringing to Sasuke’s attention, they will do so. So rather than linger in camp and get drawn into the myriad trivialities of leading a tribe, Sasuke woke up early, saddled up Botan, and rode out into the Birchwood forests at the base of his mountain camp with a new bow that Jirobo had fashioned for him. It is a massive weapon, tall enough for Sasuke’s height, and with a weight to counterbalance all of Sasuke’s muscles. It’s too heavy for battle, but perfect for the hunt. When he let loose an arrow, the air had sung with the tension of the string; the power of the bow was such that it took a single arrow to pierce clean through the neck of the animal.
The messenger is one of the younger boys in camp, Ryota, no more than thirteen. He’s Kidomaru’s youngest son, and he has inherited Kidomaru’s sharp, brown gaze and brown skin. He’s bundled in furs to ward against the cold, but the ties holding his cloak secure are haphazard—he was in a hurry, and that is enough of a detail that Sasuke rises to his feet to watch the boy dismount.
“Lord,” he begins, straining for breath, and Sasuke bites down on his immediate reaction: I am no lord. “Riders from the south. Lord Hozuki sent me to get you.”
Sasuke glances over his shoulder at the buck, half-gutted still. If he leaves the carcass here, it’ll attract the wolves. “Stay with the kill,” he says, and moves towards Botan, who is grazing unsuccessfully through some dried nettle. He huffs and whinnies when Sasuke mounts. “What tribe?”
Ryota blinks up at Sasuke. “Konohagakure,” he says, and Sasuke feels his heartbeat take off into a wild, wild thunder.
2. SAKURA
The woman at the front of the room, Sakura surmises, is a witch. She has the same, unnatural crystal eyes that Naruto does.
But unlike Naruto, she hasn’t been branded her for who she is. The skin of delicate face is porcelain smooth without a single scar. When she catches Sakura’s lingering stare, she tilts her head at an angle, considering. “A flower,” she says.
It’s a neat trick, but Sakura grew up with Naruto. Divining a name is child’s play compared to what Naruto can do. “My name is Haruno Sakura,” she offers, and the witch’s smile becomes wider still.
“Betsukai Karin,” she says. A little unnecessarily, she adds, “I am the witch for the Taka.”
There was no doubt who Karin was. From the moment they were shown into a large building—the only wooden construction in camp—Sakura had known who Karin was. All witches have those odd, crystal eyes, and Karin is no different. Her gaze had drawn Sakura’s attention almost immediately, even though she had been sitting quietly at a table, close to the roaring fire in the center.
The witch Karin is with two other men at the tables: Betsukai Jugo and Hozuki Suigetsu. Betsukai Jugo is a mountain of a man, almost as large as Chouji. He sits too close to the witch, and she, in turn, sits too close to him. Sakura tries not to stare open-mouthed at them because they conduct themselves around each other with the ease of a man and a woman who are intimate with each other. They had both named themselves Betsukai, and they act like man and wife.
But how, she wonders, can Karin call herself a witch if she has ever lain with a man?
She doesn’t have much time to consider the logistics of this (she has to tell Naruto, it will be the very first thing she tells him when she returns), because her attention is almost exclusively occupied by Hozuki Suigetsu. He is lean and muscled, unnaturally handsome with silver hair and ruby-amethyst eyes. He has been leaning too casually into her space as they talk, acting with the confidence of a man who has always held the attention of women.
Sakura breathes a weary sigh, and keeps her conversation with Suigetsu as light and detached as possible. She had at first insisted on making this trip with as few men as possible, but now, she’s grateful for the contingency that Kakashi had sent with her: Kiba, Shino, Shikamaru, Neji, and Ino. They are seated at the table as well, but they have gathered on the far end from where the northerners are sitting. For the most part, they’re quiet as they eat, except for the occasional murmured conversation in their own language.
She wants to sit with Naruto and talk about what she has seen so far—the oddly shaped tents spreading outwards from the center of the camp with no obvious rhyme or reason, the lack of any obvious clues to indicate who ranks where in their hierarchy, the odd clothes and even stranger weapons, the harsh, clipped sound of their language.
But Naruto isn’t here; he’s south, keeping watch over the oceans and guarding their people against demons. All she can do is remember as much of this journey as possible; he’ll have a hundred thousand questions for her when she returns.
For now, she keeps her peace with the witch and her companions as they wait for the Taka tribal leader to arrive. Akamaru is a warm, steady presence at her side, and she’s grateful for the heat he affords. Kakashi had warned her of the cold temperature in the north, but she hadn’t realized just how cold it would be.
She can’t imagine how Kakashi spent so long in these parts of the world. She can’t imagine moving their people north.
The Konohagakure have spent centuries along the warm, southern coast of the peninsula, but the waters are dangerous now, and they are besieged on all sides by enemies: monsters in the gulf, desert tribes moving in from the west, and island warriors descending from the east as they all seek to escape the wrath of the demons.
North is the only way they can go, into the vast, open lands still unclaimed by any single tribe.
She is her father’s daughter, though, so she can see what it costs her father to retreat. She sees it in the stiff set of Kakashi’s shoulders, the way he spends long nights on the parapets, turned towards the roiling waters of the gulf. If it had been anyone else who inherited Namikaze Minato’s mantle, the Konohagakure would have been brought to their knees long before. But Sakura’s father is a man of war. He held together the delicate stitching of their people for decades with the sheer force of his will alone. It had taken him years—all of Sakura’s childhood, in fact; this is the only world Sakura and Naruto grew up with—but now, he has finally conceded to his advisors:
The Konohagakure—a tribe of legend if there ever was one—will yield their seat of power in the south and move north.
When the decision was announced, the tribe breathed a sigh of relief. But then Kakashi had surprised all of them with his next decision.
We will not make this journey alone, he said, but with northern allies.
The ally, apparently, was Uchiha Sasuke.

“Naruto: Passion of the Shinobi”: A Naruto fan-made fighting game #6 - Early roster overview part 3
Last edited: 2019-05-05
Tumblr media
The Jonin of the Leaf, with some surprises
Itachi Uchiha
Tumblr media
Most likely to be the favourite within the fandom, Itachi was actually no between my initial intentions, but instead was added after the insistence and the suggestions of a friend of mine.
Since this is the first part Itachi, most of his moveset will be based around genjutsu. Aside from the damaging tsukuyomi, Itachi is planned to use a series of a variety of genjutsus that will put different handicaps and annoyances onto the adversary. Examples of potential effects include:
Rearranging their buttons
Inverting their directions
Inverting the high-low blocking directions
Changing their special inputs
Forcing the damage of a combo onto the opponent
Since it’s the first part, Susano’o will not be a part of hist moveset, so his damaging specials will be limited to fire jutsu as well as Amaterasu.
From this, ramifications appear. In the first place, it is necessary to determine the way genjutsu will work in terms of range, fail state and block properties. Then, a mechanic for characters to release themselves from genjutsu could be necessary, as Itachi is not the only candidate character armed with genjutsu.
Kakashi Hatake
Tumblr media
Kakashi is a really troublesome character in terms of design, canon and production. So much so that he may not make it in even though he is such an iconic character. So, what is the deal with him?
For the most part, Kakashi’s abilities overlap with Sasuke’s. The one thing that make him special is the ability to copy jutsu (which technically is also available to Sasuke, but clearly not as prominent). This ability creates multiple problems.
In the first place we have the design problem. How should the Sharingan come into effect? Options are the following:
At any time: Activating at any time makes it so you can’t choose what jutsu to copy, which would limit the jutsu you can copy to 1. Alternatively, multiple slots could grant multiple jutsu that are copied randomly or in a pre-set order.
After a jutsu: Almost like the previous one, but requiring a jutsu to be performed first. The jutsu copied is the last that has been performed by the opponent.
As a counter: This option seems like the most reasonable, but is a problem for jutsu that don’t hit, unless it is triggered by the execution instead of the hit.
The bigger problems come now. First, we have the problem of the canon. As fans will know, there are a series of techniques known as kekkei genkai that are tied to a specific clan’s genetics and are impossible to copy. Some characters, mainly the Hyuuga, are entirely composed of these techniques. So copying either remains canonical and becomes useless or goes against the canon.
Finally, we have the production. It is not viable to produce sprites for Kakashi executing every single jutsu in the game. An alternative to this could be reusing the opponent’s sprite with some effects applied, in which case a dilemma appears with hitboxes. Though it is the only viable way of implementing it as of the writing of this entry.
With this, Kakashi is a mix and match character that could potentially be a jack of all trades or a badly put together mess of a character at the choice of the user.
Mitarashi Anko
Tumblr media
The first of the 2 surprise characters. Such an underrated character. For this one, as well as for the next one, I’ve decided to create a moveset for them since the canon has a dramatic lack of information. For Anko, the only established jutsu is shown during her clash with Orochimaru. Based on her personality, role, and known jutsu, I’ve decided to base her around animals. Snakes, of course; but also spiders, ants and a very special kind of shrimp.
Her playstyle is a hit and run style based around poison and a series of keep-away tools. She wants to poison the enemy in any way and keep the poison up as she keeps herself out of reach with her other tools. These new, non-canonical tools include:
Poison saliva: in order to complement her canonical snake jutsu in the role of inflicting poison, Anko will be able to lick her kunai to cover it in poison for a period of time.
Spider webs: Both that you can set (think of Testament’s traps in GGX2) and that you can throw in a similar fashion to that of the Deinopidae family of spiders or “Net-casting spiders”. These obstruct the path between your opponent and yourself as well as granting the chance to inflict more poison.
Poison explosion: Similarly to one of Samurai Shodown’s characters. This move leaves a clone on your position while leaving you a bit back. The clone will then explode leaving fluids with toxins that will poison your enemy further. This move is inspired by a very special series of ant species known as explosive ants”, such as the Colobopsis saundersi
Implosive bubble: a direct damage super. A mix between Water Prison jutsu and the skills of the Alpheidae or “Pistol Shrimp”. In this move, Anko imprisons the opponent into a water prison and snaps her fingers for an imploding bubble that for a moment reaches up to approximately 5000ºC.
Yuuhi Kurenai
Tumblr media
And as the final candidate we have Kurenai. Another left out character that seemed extremely interested but was never developed. The canon information we have is that she is a genjutsu prodigy and, as such, she is the second genjutsu user in the game.
Not much is established around her from my part either so far. But there are 2 main points I want to focus on:
Use of genjutsu exclusively, as opposed to Itachi’s mix of genjutsu and ninjutsu. This does not include her normal moves... or maybe yes.
The use of plants within her genjutsu. Her aesthetic points to the iconography of a rose, and the one time we see her using her jutsu it involves a tree. From that I decided to make all her genjutsu based on plants, and making them damaging genjutsu as opposed to obstructive moves.
Some of the early ideas for her include:
Field of roses: Sets a surface across which roses will flourish, dealing constant damage to the opponent when it is standing on it.
Negative edge attacks: In a similar fashion to Arakune’s insects in Blazblue, she could use plant based attacks based on negative edge.
Discrete distance projectiles into teleport attacks: based on her attempt at attacking Itachi, she could make trees raise at different distances as a mean to directly attack the opponent. Furthermore, once set, she could use them to teleport into them and attack from there. A bit like Rachel’s spears in Blazblue.
Corpse flower: based on the flower species by the same nickname (Amorphophallus titanum, Rafflesia family), this attack would set a blooming flower that would take a long time to actually bloom, but would do fast, over time damage all over the screen until the jutsu is broken or maybe if the plant is destroyed.
At the moment I’m still thinking of possibilities and looking up weird plants in search of more botanical goodness.

Pink Peonies (Kakashi/Reader) Part 5/5 💐
Is it actually possible that I finished a fic? Pushing myself to write and allowing myself to finish a story are my biggest obstacles as a writer. But I like this feeling of accomplishment and closure. I think I’ll try harder to write more and finish my other stories!
A/N: I owe a huge thanks to everyone who liked, commented, reblogged, left Kudos, bookmarked and read this story! Especially @thetoxicstrawberry and @thefoxthief because without you guys I wouldn’t have finished this story at all! It would’ve just been another one of my hundreds of unfinished ideas gathering dust ... and tears. I hope you guys like the ending and that it was worth the wait! ✨ Of course, Kakashi is always worth the wait. 💙
Also some friggin’ cool pieces of fanart for this story?! Heck yeah! Piece 1 // Piece 2 💖💖💖💖💖

Botan restaurant was not as fancy as you had imagined, but you were thankful since you weren’t exactly ready to go to a high-end restaurant. Kakashi was still in his uniform, and you had worked up a sweat walking around the village to get rid of the flowers. You could still feel sweat running down your back and pooling at the base of your spine, and you were pretty sure there was a layer of grimy dirt all across your face - but Kakashi didn’t say anything about it if you did. Neither of you appeared to be upper class diners, and Botan ended up being a good place to go after all. Of course, you had already eaten at Ichiraku and weren’t as hungry as before.
But, you were eager for the food to arrive because you were dining with the Copy Ninja; the one whose face was so well hidden, only a handful of people had ever seen it. Now that you were sitting down with him, you realized just how soon you’d get to see his face while he ate. You’d get to see Hatake Kakashi’s face, finally! Sure, you hadn’t been waiting as long as some people to see it, but you’d done a year and a half of waiting which was plenty long enough for you. You tried to keep cool, smiling nicely and folding your hands together.
“What?” Kakashi asked, turning his one dark eye to you. “Your mood changed suddenly. What is it?”
“Oh nothing!” you laughed, waving your hand through the air. “I’m just happy that we got to come here after all that work! I’m glad your plan got those kids out of our hair for a while.” Kakashi eyed you before looking around the room. “You aren’t disappointed?” “Hm? About what?” Yikes! Is it that obvious? I mean, I was disappointed before when he sent me off with the flowers, but now I’m not … not really, at least. “The flowers.” Your breath caught in your throat and you blushed warmly, looking away. “Wh-What about them? We used them as a distraction so we could have dinner. How could I be disappointed about that?” “You got rid of all of yours?” “Yeah, of course. You told me to.” Kakashi hummed in approval. “Good. I thought maybe for a moment you’d try to keep them and that would’ve spoiled the evening.” “Well, no … you asked me to get rid of them - I’m capable of following orders, you know!” “That’s not what I meant. I meant that if you’d kept any of them, it would’ve made this gesture a little less … hm, anyway.” He laughed lightly and scratched at his cheek, looking away. “What? What do you m —” You didn’t get the chance to finish your question before Kakashi pulled out - seemingly out of thin air — a single pink peony. It looked just as fresh as it had earlier in the evening, as if it hadn’t just been carted around in the summer heat for several hours. He reached across the table and handed you the flower, nudging the rigid end of the stem into your open hand. “This is for you,” he said casually, sitting back. “Wh-What?” you gasped, holding the flower up to your nose to breathe in the earthy scent. “It - I - what? I thought you got rid of them all. Wasn’t that the point?” “Well, what kind of man would I be if I didn’t even get you flowers on our first date? I had to bring you at least one.” Your face burned hot and your eyes darted away from him when he turned to look at you. “Uh - well, thanks,” you mumbled. “But I … I didn’t save one for you! I hid all three of them.” “I know. You did really well. And actually,” he pulled out a second peony and held it up for you to see. He gave a bit of an embarrassed laugh and said, “I kept this one too. I figured I might as well … Maybe by hiding only a few of the flowers instead of all of them, they’d be preoccupied with trying to find the last ones —” “That were never hidden. I see. So you bought us even more time.” You nodded slowly in realization, turning the flower around to inspect the outside petals. They glowed nearly orange in the restaurant’s lighting. Wait … if he kept TWO flowers and only gave me one … Is he keeping one for himself?! You looked back at him but only briefly as you saw he was still staring at you. “Uh! Well … thank you! I appreciate it.” “Here you go!” came a rather chipper voice. You both turned to see your waiter carrying two plates of food. He set down a hot plate in front of you and the other in front of your date. Only now did you regret ordering hot food - it was air conditioned in the building, but you were still sweating. There was no way a piping hot meal would help that any. “Thank you!” you exclaimed anyway. “That was really fast!” “We’d love to make a good first impression,” the young man explained, his face shining even brighter than your sweat-coated one in the dim light, “since it is our grand opening after all. Please - enjoy!” “Ahh - Kakashi-san! This is so -” You moved to pick up a fork but you never got the opportunity. Faster than you’d ever seen the man move before, Kakashi was up, had you by the arm, and was walking you towards the exit. “What - What are you doing?” you protested, gripping the flower tight in one hand and trying to free yourself with the other. “Are you seriously not eating? I told you I didn’t mind that I’d already gone to Ichiraku - I’d make room! Our food just got here!” I didn’t even get to see his face! “Sorry,” he said, his voice far more jovial than his tense body would suggest. Once you two were near the hostess stand, he released your arm. “I hate to part ways like this, but unfortunately we’ll have to reschedule our dinner.” “Was it something I said? I actually don’t mind that you kept a flower for yourself! You didn’t have to get me anything!” “That’s not it.” He looked out towards the front street and your eyes followed his. Two girls were idling under the awning, holding a peony of their own. Although it was dark, the lights inside the restaurant illuminated part of the street and threw orange-tinted light across the girls’ faces; you recognized them from Kakashi’s descriptions. Sakura and Ino. “They found us?!” you choked in disbelief, doing your best not to screech out your frustration. “I did all that running around the village for nothing?” “I don’t think they’ve noticed us, but I don’t want to give them the chance. We’ll have to leave separately.” He looked at you and for the first time, you noticed that his attitude had changed. He didn’t have his usual laid-back demeanor or could-care-less stance. Even wearing his mask and hitai-ate, you could see that disappointment was crossing his face. For a brief moment, his eye met yours and he feigned a smile, shrugging rigidly. “Oh well! I suppose this is what happens when you don’t tell your students what you’re doing. I’ll let you leave first.” You hesitated, clutching at the stem of the peony. Your eyes searched his face but he turned away, shifting so his back was to the entrance just in case the girls looked inside. Your feet seemed cemented to the spot, your heart was turning inside your chest, your mind was racing. All of that - that running around and duping those kids, for nothing? They found you anyway? And Kakashi was giving up, just like that? That didn’t seem like something a legendary ninja would do. Kakashi threw a sideways glance to you, “You can go now. I’ll leave in a bit. I don’t want them to see us together - I mean, I don’t want them harassing you because you were with me.” Stubbornly, you shook your head, trying to think of something to say. “Really, Y/N,” Kakashi said in a low voice, “you should go. I know the genin in this village. They won’t leave you alone if they think we’re —” “Well we are, aren’t we?” you blurted, finally managing to speak. “We are on a date, aren’t we? And I can handle a few curious genin. I - I didn’t run all around Konoha, give away all my flowers, get covered in sweat, and nearly starve half to death just to be bested by a few kids! I mean, I’m actually really impressed with their tracking skills but … but this was our time and - and well, I … I’m not going to miss out on a date with you, even if it means I’ll be harassed the rest of my life by your students!” Kakashi seemed taken aback by how forward you were, but he dispelled any of your fears of the date being cut short by relaxing his shoulders and giving a shy but genuine smile that spread to his visible eye. “Oh, well - if you really feel that way … I guess we can continue, then. Do you want to go back to our table?” You glanced back towards the front of the restaurant and saw the girls still waiting outside. A bit of boldness rose up in your chest and you started to say no - you wanted to confront these genin who were so keen on stalking Kakashi - but before you could open your mouth, both of them stepped inside and headed for the hostess stand. A surprised squeak escaped your lips and you nodded vigorously. “Yes! Let’s go back to our table!” You grabbed Kakashi by the wrist and dragged him back to where you were sitting. When you got there, you were greeted by the waiter who looked dumbfounded at your absence. He had obviously returned to ask how the meal was. “S-Sorry,” you wheezed as you sat down, hoping no one noticed how anxious you looked. “We just stepped outside for a bit! Ah ha - we’ll eat now!”
You sat transfixed on the man in front of you. He sat, staring right back at you. Your hands were trembling in your lap as you waited for him to pick up a fork or spoon or something and start eating. You watched intently, aware of any small movement his shoulders or arms made. You were ready. You were going to see his face.
Okay, maybe that shouldn’t have been your only concern about the date (especially since Sakura and Ino were only a hundred or so feet away at the front of the restaurant) - buuuut it certainly was a nice bonus. A date and a dramatic reveal? You couldn’t resist. “You can start,” Kakashi began, motioning towards your own plate of food. “Don’t wait for me.” “Oh, no, Kakashi,” you said sweetly, “you go right ahead yourself! My stomach is still kinda full from Ichiraku. Just give me a few minutes and I’ll be good to go.” “Alright. If you insist.” Kakashi reached for a fork with one hand and raised his other hand towards his face. All but his index finger folded against his palm as he hooked his short nail under the edge of his mask. “I’m glad we decided to come here,” he said, gently tugging at the dark fabric. You could feel your palms sweating even more than before and you watched eagerly as the mask was slowly pulled down the bridge of his nose. Just a few more inches and I’ll get to see his face! I wonder how many others have gotten to do that? Maybe that’s why those girls were following him … Not to see who I was, but to see HIM! Oh, right - I can’t look too eager or else he’ll know. You could see the curve of his nose and a little more of his cheek than before. So close. Just another inch and you’d get to see his mouth … There was a sudden crash and you looked over, your heart somewhere in your throat. Your waiter was lying prostrate on the ground across the room, surrounded by shattered dishes and food. “I’m - I’m so sorry,” he cried, wiping soup off of his face with the back of his sleeve. “I tripped! Please, sir, let me get something to clean up and I’ll have your order out in no time!” He hoisted himself up and began clearing away the bigger pieces of the dishes. “Did you see that —?” You began, turning back to Kakashi. “WHAT?!” Kakashi was sitting back, his mask on, his plate empty. “That’s - That’s impossible!” you shouted, slamming your fists onto the table. “Are you kidding me?!” “What? What’s wrong?” Growling in annoyance, you threw your hand into the air. “Waiter! Can I get a to-go box?”
“I had a nice time,” Kakashi said, strolling out onto the street with his hands in his pockets and the peony tucked behind the collar of his flak jacket. The soft petals pushed up under his chin, gently brushing against the fabric of his mask. “Thank you for joining me.”
“Mhm,” you sighed, holding your paper box against your chest. “It was a lot more … eventful … than I thought it’d be.” “Yeah, sorry about that.” “Oh no! I didn’t mean it that way! I meant … well, everything is an adventure with you, huh?” Kakashi rubbed the back of his neck and glanced up at the star-speckled sky. “That bad, huh? It won’t hurt my feelings if you decide not to see me again. I mean - not too much, at least.” Despite the teasing tone, you could tell he was serious. You reached out and gently placed your hand on his forearm, your thumb and index finger resting along the section of bare skin between his sleeve hem and the cuff of his glove. He looked over, his eyebrow raised in a question. “Actually, it’s been a really nice night. And I think it was better this way … I have a better understanding of you and what you do. And now I know what to expect! Thank you, Kakashi-san, honestly. I think this has been my favorite date - ever!” “Oh, good!” Kakashi laughed in relief and stuck his hand back into his pocket. "I was a bit worried maybe you thought … I’m glad I didn’t ruin it. Maybe it’s sudden but …  would you like to join me next weekend? I promise I’ll try not to raise anyone’s suspicions before we go out. Maybe I should use a disguise …” Laughing, you squeezed his arm and shook your head, “I really don’t care what technique you use, as long as I get to see you again. Outside of the Hokage’s office. Next weekend sounds wonderful. I’ll see you then. Should we meet at the same place? The dango shop?” “Sure. We could probably eat there. Maybe it’d be less trouble.” You stepped back and bowed, pressing the pink flower against your rapidly beating heart and making sure your food didn’t spill out of the box. I didn’t get to see his face, but … I don’t think that matters. I had a great time after all. And I’ve already got a second date planned! Plus I didn’t even have to pay the bill! And I’d heard he was such a cheapskate. Standing up, you gave him a broad smile and said, “Goodnight, Kakashi-san. I’ll see you next weekend!” “Goodnight, Y/N,” Kakashi replied calmly, giving you a slight bow. “See you then.” Quickly, he disappeared into the night. You strolled along the street, burying your nose into the soft petals of the peony. The smells of the summer night drifted lazily around you, mixing with the flower and sending a burning blush over your face. One successful date down - another one to go! Even though it was far different than what you’d imagined, your time with Kakashi had turned out a lot nicer than you probably could have expected. You hummed to yourself as you sauntered down the path, your mind preoccupied with remembering the night’s events. “Hey! Hey you!” You turned around to see Sakura and Ino headed your way. Both of them held to-go boxes much like yours and looked as if they had worn themselves out. You smiled inwardly as they stopped in front of you, trying to catch their breath. “You - Where -” Ino panted, bending over in pain. “Ugh! Why did I run so much today? I’ve got an awful side ache!” “Where did …” Sakura picked up, her eyes frantic and hair wild, “Where did you … get that … flower?” She jabbed at the air in the direction of the peony you held. For a fraction of a second, Kakashi’s masked face passed through your thoughts and you felt yourself blush all over again. You were thankful it was too dark for them to see it.  “Oh, this thing?” you feigned confusion, proudly holding up the peony in the dark. “It was a gift. From a really nice person. Someone ..." You paused and sighed lightly, almost too giddy to keep your poker face up. "Not very remarkable … I couldn’t even tell you what he looked like.”   “Aw man, really?” Ino cried in defeat. “Well, that’s it! I’m done! I don’t care if there’s one more out there. I’m through with searching - he obviously got rid of them all just to mess with us! Come on Sakura. I’ve gotta get home and I’m sure your parents are wondering where you are, too.” “Well, thanks anyway,” Sakura sighed, her eyes dropping to the ground. “I hope you enjoy that flower … Whoever gave it to you must’ve really wanted you to have it.” “Yeah,” Ino cut in. “They’re really nice flowers. Whoever bought them must’ve been thinking about someone truly special.” She turned and grumbled, “Or had been onto us the whole time!” You watched the two girls drag themselves home, their silhouettes fading into the shadows. Giving one more twirl of the peony in your hand, you couldn’t help but grin foolishly and practically skip all the way home, your heart feeling as light as the flower you held.

Heart Under A Blade, please! :D
Heart Under a Blade partisans have been so patient, even though I focused on Your Most Important Person instead. I’m working on HUAB and definitely plan to get its next chapter out before YMIP gets updated again. I may or may not release a Mada//Saku that I’m working on first, and also some DW fanfic, but anyway, I promise that I’m moving HUAB toward the top of my writing priorities.
In the meantime, I hope a teaser will be welcomed. Context: this is the scene where Kakashi suggests Jiraiya’s code is from Icha Icha Tactics, and Shiho orders Kakashi to read the sentences.
Shiho clears her throat. “We’ll start with the first word on the indicated page of the book, but we should have it in context, so Hatake-san, please read the whole sentence.”
“N-now?”
“Yes, of course!”
Kakashi stares at the roomful of expectant ninja, the cryptographers, Shikamaru, Naruto.
Kakashi taught his students a lot about looking underneath the underneath.
What he didn’t get to—mostly because he really was a rotten teacher, as his former students’ immediate exponential blossoming under new teachers proved—was the next step for shinobi who have mastered looking at the overlooked.
“Today’s training!” said Minato-sensei brightly. “Find, obtain, and deliver. Rin-chan, I want you to bring me this leaf.” He held up a large oak leaf with a single large insect bite dead centre. “Obito-kun, this flower.” The flower was wilting strangely, half rotten and half fresh. “Kakashi-kun, this mushroom.” A fat white mushroom with a single red spot.
Kakashi remembers scowling, irritated that he was going to be slowed down once again by his deadweight team. Rin, at least, would accept his help in finding her leaf, but Obito would probably refuse on principle.
“I’ll leave these here.” Minato-sensei gestured to the three botanical items on top of the stump. “Now I want these exact items—this shape, this size, exactly these items in every way, understand? I won’t accept anything less. There are no other rules! I’ll be at Training Ground Seven.” He waved and body-flickered away.
Kakashi didn’t remember much of the actual, grinding, tedious, and ultimately fruitless search for a match. He had tried clones, he was pretty sure, and he thought Obito had attempted to use his fire jutsu to burn a hole in a leaf to match Rin’s target, but only succeeded in nearly setting his own arm ablaze, of course. Not like a burned hole would look like an insect hole anyway…
Minato-sensei was sweaty but still maddeningly cheerful when he came back to their area of the forest. “What a great day for a work-out!” he called. “But you all failed your assignment?”
His three students stared at him—sheepish Rin, Obito sucking on a burnt finger, Kakashi outwardly indifferent but inwardly crawling with shame.
“Nobody thought to just bring me these, huh?” Their teacher tapped on the stump.
Three mouths, one hidden by a mask, fell open.
Minato-sensei laughed. “I expected failure, don’t worry. Actually, in some ways, it means you’re good shinobi. You’re all very good at looking underneath the underneath, very diligent, very obedient, very mission-focused… but don’t forget about the best place to hide something from a typical ninja…” He picked up the leaf and looked through the hole with one eye. “In plain sight.”
In the present, everyone is staring at him as his face gets hotter and hotter.
“I told you wanted these items, but because I just put them down, you all assumed they couldn’t really be the items. You all assumed that I didn’t mean my plain meaning. Now, can you imagine the possibilities here?”
“What are you waiting for?!” Naruto face contorts with rage as sweat beads on Kakashi’s bright red face.
Kakashi remembers being a teenager, desperate to get away to a fantasy place, to escape being himself, compulsively reading romance novels. A huge, obvious, glaring vulnerability. And he knew it, he knew it right away, and he was surrounded always by other shinobi, so the best way to hide this vulnerability…
“Hound, get your nose out of your smut, the target will be here in less than an hour,” Owl snickered.
Kakashi turned a page and said nothing. He was there in body with his fellow ANBU, but he was also far, far away, with a beautiful woman who was just about to seduce a grieving widower, giving him comfort, pleasure, hope, life.
“That guy is so cold,” complained Rabbit. “He’s like a machine, he doesn’t care about anything. Reading a disgusting book like that in public.”
…was to make his compulsive habit as obvious as possible.
But hiding in plain sight has one serious drawback. If the observer ever does twig on, it’s all over.
“Do it!” Naruto growls.
It comes out of Kakashi like it’s being dragged out of him with a hook. “Do… you… really… love me?”
It’s humiliating. It’s agonizing. He would rather chew and swallow glass than recite these phrases of romance and connection.
When it’s over, he’s a sweaty, numb mess. Only muscle memory is keeping him clinging to the windowsill. Slowly, slowly, sense and feeling returns as he realizes that the urgent problem of Jiraiya-sama’s code has got them all focused on it. Even when they were listening to him, they weren’t thinking of him and what the words meant in their plain meaning; only their meaning for the code.
He’s escaped, he’s escaped.

What were Botan's first thoughts on seeing Tobirama for the first time?
Given that her first meeting with him was on the battlefield, it wasn't necessarily good. After the fight though, where she was injured, she actually admired his skills and how protective Tobirama was of his comrades. (This is about two or three years before the alliance is talked about).NOW WE GO INTO THE ALLIANCE. She wasn't fond of the idea of marrying someone from a different village, but, if it meant peace and an alliance with one of, if not the biggest, village on the continent, she's willing to toss her personal feelings aside to protect Kumogakure and the Hatakes that reside there. Tobirama actually gives her some space during the first few weeks of her arrival. Only talking to her during meals (at one point he asks how her injuries have healed since he does remember their battle), she eventually warms up to him completely and soon starts falling for the Second Hokage. :3c

Pink Peonies (Kakashi/Reader) Part 2/5
So there are some really awesome people who asked me to finish this story and it ended up being a lot longer than I intended, but a lot shorter than I expected! Hopefully I did it justice and you guys all like it! (It’s only in so many parts so it’s not one giant post, RIP.)
Also @thefoxthief did some really awesome art of my story?! Which is totally mind-boggling to me. I’m still in awe! And thank you to everyone who left such kind comments, all the Kudos on ao3, and the anons who messaged me! I’m glad to get this finished for you guys! (Also, this is maybe my 2nd non-one shot story that I’ve ever completed? So there’s that.) Also tagging @thetoxicstrawberry bc Berry is awesome.
Let me know if you wanna be tagged in the other parts!

Chapter Summary: Kakashi is a lot more observant than he seems; Sakura and Ino are a lot more determined than they seem; you're a lot more patient than you'd like to be - but, hey, somebody's bound to butt in when you're on a date with the Copy Ninja. Luckily, Kakashi has a plan.
You stood outside of the dango shop, arms crossed, watching the crowd of people pass by lazily in the summer heat. The sun was starting to set, painting the sky in an array of vibrant oranges and deep reds. The sweet smell of rice flour, red bean paste, and green tea surrounded you and your stomach growled loudly. You had half a mind to sneak inside and grab a skewer while you waited. You knew Kakashi had a reputation of being late, but you hadn’t thought he’d be this late, especially since he was the one who set the time! Five more minutes. You’d give him five more minutes …
Your stomach growled even louder this time, drawing the attention of a couple passing by in front of you, and your face burned hot with embarrassment. That was it. You made one last glance around the street before ducking into the shop and sitting at one of the tables. You were going to make yourself comfortable while you waited, since you’d been standing outside for about twenty minutes already. It was a little bit strange to be going on a date with the renowned Leaf Village ninja, but you couldn’t help but feel excited. You’d known the man for about a year and a half now and had apparently impressed him enough - or worn him down enough - that he invited you out for dinner, which surprised you quite a bit. You had only really seen him inside the Hokage office while dropping off reports, or occasionally passed by on the streets. You knew he was the teacher for a genin team, but you had never managed to meet any of his students. But somewhere between handing in reports, accidentally tripping over your own two feet and running headfirst into his back, and once being the judge for a competition between him and Gai, another teacher, he must’ve decided you were worth the time and effort to go on a date. Of course, he never said it was a date, but the fact that he asked you out for dinner to a new restaurant seemed pretty date-ish to you. However, you weren’t going to get your hopes up too much, just in case … Kakashi was hard to read and often his own strangely charming personality came across as flirtatious. But, there was one good thing that could come out of your non-date, whether Kakashi was late or not. You’d finally get to see it - one of the most well-kept secrets in all of Konoha: Hatake Kakashi’s face. Not that was an ulterior motive of yours; it was just a possible perk! “Don’t look now,” came Kakashi’s calm voice behind you, “but we’re being followed.”
Nearly jumping out of your skin, you turned to look over your shoulder. “Huh?” Kakashi sighed heavily. “I said don’t look.” He stood outside of the dango shop, leaning against the wall where you’d been waiting only moments before. “Who’s following us? How - How do they even know about us?” You didn’t mean for it to sound so relationship-y, but Kakashi didn’t seem to notice. “Just a few genin. I have an idea of who it is, and I think I know why they’re following me. You should use a transformation jutsu while you’re in there, and we’ll go separate ways.” “Huh? That doesn’t sound like dinner to me! It sounds like a whole lot of work. Are you just trying to lose me?” “No, of course not. But I didn’t think you’d want our first date to be marred by some curious 12 year-olds.” Your heart involuntarily skipped a beat and your face warmed. Did he just say ‘date’!? “Uh - oh, right, right. Sure thing.” You stood up, trying to think of who to to transform into. You had no idea what Kakashi was planning, but you figured any transformation should do. You settled on one of the civilians you had seen pass by the dango shop earlier while you waited; it was inconspicuous enough, and certainly not a face that would draw a lot of attention. Quickly forming the handsigns, you were engulfed in a cloud of smoke and emerged as a rather plain-looking civilian. Dressed in a pale green yukata and bamboo sandals with your hair hanging down around your ears to frame your face, you stepped outside of the dango shop and looked to Kakashi. “What’s your plan?” you asked, looking the opposite direction so it didn’t appear as if you two were associating. “I don’t know. I figured I’d run ‘em around town a little bit. See if I can wear them out before we go out to dinner.” “Ugh. If I knew this would involve work, I would’ve —” “Would’ve what? Canceled? That’s harsh.” You turned to protest but Kakashi’s one visible eye was closed and you could tell he was teasing you. Huffing, you crossed your arms and surveyed the street. “Actually, I was going to say that I would’ve eaten first. And I was about to when you showed up. Anyway … what do these genin look like?” “About yea tall,” Kakashi said, hovering his hand just above his waist. “It’s two girls - Yamanaka Ino and Haruno Sakura. The latter is my student. The former is her, er - well, her rival, I guess you’d say.” “What are they doing, both stalking us?” “I’m assuming trying to figure out who these are for.” You turned and finally noticed the bouquet of soft pink flowers Kakashi held in his arms. Your stomach flipped and you couldn’t help but smile wide. “Are - Are those for me?” “Huh? Oh - good idea. Here, you take half and I’ll take half.” “What?” Kakashi unwrapped the flowers, handed three of them to you and discarded the brown paper in a nearby bin. “Okay, so here’s what we’re going to do.”
Sakura and Ino hurried down the crowded street, frantically looking into the open doors of every building and scanning the crowds, trying to find Kakashi.
“Is he always this hard to find?” Ino asked as she stopped in the middle of the street, a few beads of sweat already forming along her temple. “At this rate, we’ll never figure out who those flowers are for! Ugh. Just great.” She turned on Sakura and jabbed her index finger at her. “He’s your teacher - so where would he go?” “Don’t you get it?” Sakura barked, wiping her forehead with the back of her hand. “I already told you that Sasuke, Naruto and I have tried to tail him before. It’s really hard! But we’ve just got to try harder. Can’t you use your mind transfer jutsu or something to find him?” “You obviously don’t understand how that jutsu works. Of course you don’t - you’re not skilled enough to use it! I have to have a clear target and they can’t be moving. So - no, I can’t use it.” “Well what good is it then?” “Hey, don’t insult my jutsu! What can you do? Last I checked, you were pretty awful at any ninjutsu and you’re too weak for taijutsu!” Sakura balled her hands into tight fists and her face turned bright red with rage. “You have no right to say that! I’ve come so far from where I used to be! And I’m getting stronger every day! I actually train, you know! And I have great teammates to train with! All you’ve got is a shirker and someone who spends his whole day eating!” “You can’t talk bad about my teammates like that! Only I can! Shikamaru and Choji are awesome - you only think you’re so good because you’ve got Sasuke on your team - which was only because they try to even out the skills on the team. You got paired with such a great guy because you have Naruto, the knuckleheaded ninja!” “If I can’t talk bad about your teammates then you can’t talk bad about mine!” “Hey - what are you two fighting about now?” Sakura and Ino whipped around to see Kiba strolling down the street, Akamaru plopped on top of his head. He picked up a piece of takoyaki from the paper bowl he held and raised it above his head. Akamaru grabbed it and eagerly chewed on it, spraying bits of dough and slobber across Kiba’s hoodie, and barked in appreciation. “Is it about Sasuke?” Kiba asked, his face contorting from concern to resignation. “Figures. You two only fight about Sasuke. What’s so great about him?” “Actually, we were —” Sakura stopped herself when she realized she couldn’t just go around telling everybody about her and Ino’s mission. She threw a glance to the blonde next to her, gave a subtle nod, and said, “We weren’t fighting. We were … debating! About where to eat. We heard there’s a new restaurant in town and we wanted to check it out.” “But we couldn’t remember where it was,” Ino added. Kiba turned slowly to stare at the large banners lining the street, decorated with vibrant kanji that said, GRAND OPENING! Botan Restaurant - THIS WAY! A fat arrow pointed in the way of the restaurant. “Can’t find it, huh?” he asked, shifting his gaze back to the girls. They both laughed nervously and threw their hands to their faces. “Oh - well, would you look at that?” Sakura said quickly, “It was right there in front of us! Jeez, no wonder Kakashi-sensei tells us we need to work on our observation skills! Aha ha ha ha!” “Yeah, if it was an enemy it would’ve struck us!” Ino forced a giggle, although she was mentally screaming. Now she looked like a fool with absolute zero ninja skills. “Thanks, Kiba!” “Uh huh … Come on, Akamaru. Let’s go get some dumplings before they close.” The young ninja started off down the street, easily merging with another group of villagers. “Great, now what do we do?” Ino huffed, turning to look at Sakura. “If we got the attention of Kiba, then we’ve probably scared off Kakashi-sensei, right? He’s probably not even on this street anymore.” “You’re right,” Sakura sighed, looking forlornly at the villagers. “We’ll never find him like this. Wait!” She grabbed Ino by the shoulders and shook her. “I know what we can do! We can get Akamaru to sniff out Kakashi-sensei! We’ll be sure to find him that way!” “Okay, but why would Kiba just let us use Akamaru? He’ll want to know what we’re doing.” “Just tell him we’re looking for something you lost - like a ring or something!” “Okay, but Akamaru will have to know he’s sniffing out your teacher!” Ino growled, prying Sakura’s hands off of her. “Either we let Kiba know or we don’t do it at all. He won’t part with Akamaru - and that dumb dog won’t listen to us.” “Okay … We’ll just make sure Kiba doesn’t tell anyone. Or!” Sakura’s eyes widened and a large grin spread across her ruddy face. “We’ll have Akamaru sniff out the peonies! He can do that, right?” “Why would I know?” Ino looked back through the crowds to see Akamaru bouncing above the sea of heads. “I guess that could work. But why would he want to track peonies —” “I don’t care! Make up something! Say somebody stole them without paying! Come on, we gotta catch ‘em before we lose them too!” Sakura grabbed Ino by the elbow and ran down the street after the boy and his dog.
You were pretty sure Kakashi had just ditched you. That, or this was an elaborate roleplay to see if you were worthy of the date in the first place. He’d just assigned you the task of getting rid of the genin that were following you. Or rather, following him. As far as you were concerned, the two girls didn’t know about you - and they certainly didn’t know you were on a date.
It’s okay, you thought to yourself as you walked down the street, three peonies in your trembling hands. I can call it that. HE called it that. A date. Except … we’re not on the date now. Whatever. It doesn’t matter. I’m going to lose these girls and then I’m going to get dinner with Kakashi! You and Kakashi had parted ways a few streets back, and you had yet to see these two supposed stalkers. Kakashi couldn’t even point them out to you. “Well, they’re not here,” he had mused, still lounging against the dango shop wall. “But they’re trying to find me. I could easily give them the slip, but where’s the fun in that? Besides, it’ll help them to develop some necessary shinobi skills. Plus, I can work up an appetite.” “I already have,” you had muttered, but didn’t receive a response. At least he had given you a brief description of both girls and you figured they’d be pretty easy to spot - especially since Kakashi said they often couldn’t go more than fifteen minutes without breaking out into an argument. It seemed like you’d be able to see (that was, hear) them coming from a mile away. “Now,” you said, taking one of the peonies and twirling it between your fingers. “I just gotta get rid of these. So much for flowers on our first date. Oh well.”
