Mum said that she sometime avoided buying from this stall as the queue is just too long. That is because their Bak Chor Mee (肉脞面) or Minced Meat Noodles is so popular, as it comes with plenty of ingredients or toppings. Let’s us see what is included in this bowl of dry-style thin noodles or mee kia. At a glance, I can see pork & chive dumpling, fish dumpling, fish balls, pork balls (hidden underneath), braised pig’s skin, fishcake slices, crispy sole fish (扁魚干/大地鱼/比目鱼), crispy pork lards and minced pork. The pig’s skin is just one piece but mum topped up extra for more to be added.

Red braised beef noodle soup (红烧牛肉面)
Soup is made with beef bones and a good variety of spices and vegetables. The color mainly comes from the soy sauce. Beef was also braised with a lot of spices.
This is an A+++ soup y'all. It's spicy and rich and warms me up instantly

Maxi’s Noodles, Flushing, NY
Took the Long Island Railroad out to Flushing, Queens, home to one of the largest Chinatowns in country, and was thrilled to stumble upon Maxi’s Noodle, where we enjoyed an amazing lunch. So good, in fact, that we went back the next day for more!
This lovely little Hong Kong style eatery on 38th St. has a limited menu which allows them to make everything in house by hand! And they did it SO WELL!!
We went for two egg noodle dishes, one “dry” lo mein with shrimp wontons and beef stew, as seen above, and the other in soup with dumplings and ja jiang sweet & spicy pork...
Both excellent! Also got a container of their fried fish skin, which I highly recommend. Maxi’s will now be a regular stop on every trip out to Flushing!
Oh, and they sell their noodles, wontons and dumplings to go, which we took advantage of as well...
Sent a few pics over to Maxi herself and she dug my Spider-Man bowl...

Braised Noodles with Yellow Chives
0 notes
Went for our weekly grocery shopping and dropped in to XO Minced Meat Noodles (XO 肉脞麵) for an early dinner. Mum chose her Lor Mee (卤面) while I picked the XO Minced Meat Noodle (XO 肉脞面) with thin yellow noodles and added chilli paste. Both bowls of noodles are priced at a very reasonable S$4.50 each considering the amount of ingredients given.
