Image 1 - Pillar

What type of lighting: natural lighting coming from a window from the right side of the camera, probably later in the day to create these intense shadows

What composition: almost full body shot (he cuts his own feet off!) or posing to get something out of his eye (natural pose), sitting on a bench in front of a pillar

Mood: Exhaustion

Impact: The pose and lighting go so well in creating the overall mood I have interpreted from this image, there's so much story that we could unpack from this image alone: is he waiting for someone? Has he been stood up? Has he spent all day in this (museum?) looking for someone?

Image 2 - Couch

What type of lighting: Natural warm lighting coming from a window to the left of the camera.

What composition: almost full body shot (cuts a whole foot off) on the couch, he also cuts off the table and lamp and window, I feel like this creates a sense of closeness since we can't see that far out. Pose is perhaps JUST starting to sit down on the couch, one hand moving to put leg in position and the the blocking the sun from his eyes.

Mood: Calm + Intimate + Relaxing

Impact: The warm tone of the image creates a sense of home, the candid-ness of the shot makes the image seem friendly and intimate.

Image 3 - Street Light

What type of lighting: artificial street light above Brandon and other artificial lights in the background. Relatively well-lit so no intense shadows. Little bit of lens flare.

What composition: Full body shot with emphasis on the second street lamp back - the pose makes us believe that the light on Brandon's face is coming from the street lamp closest to us.

Mood: Energetic + Mysterious

Impact: Brandon is turned slightly away from the light which I am taking quite literal, perhaps he might be doing something wrong on purpose. The lack of shadows gives the energetic vibes: despite being night, it's not overly dark so there's still lots to do with this night.

Another artist I also like is someone who actually graduated from the high school I went to and made it big as a photographer.

Brandon Woelfel he is just really intelligent and creative with how he uses a camera and photoshop.

The Final Images.

After so many photoshoots and classwork, I had learnt so much in just 6 weeks about photography. From hardly having used a camera, learning how to use light, shadow and colour to my advantage, and how to properly use all of the camera settings that came with these elements.

I looked back over my shoots and chose four images that had similar colour palettes, and could blend together as a series, but very different use of lighting and mood. I looked at some of the artists I had studied, especially Brandon Woelfel as I was inspired by his use of blues and cyan in his work. I decided to do a similar effect in this series, turning the plants in the background from green to blue and highlighting red and yellow in the images. this worked with my self portrait as well, as red and cyan were the two colours present in those pieces.

If I were to do this project again with more time, I would have retaken the self portraits, as I feel like these, although artistically sound, are the weakest part of this project.

Overall, I am very happy with how this work came together, I think these images came out sharp and detailed, with interesting lighting to capture my model in interesting ways.

SDL; Arcade Shoot

Largely inspired by Brandon Woelfel, I wanted to capture amazing shots with the neon lights that would come across as a dreamy and somewhat bright ethereal effect. Not fully prepared, I wish I had looked at his techniques prior as I could have been better organised such as brining a CD to reflect iridescent light or utilising my pink LED lights I purchased spontaneously for the other shoot.

Other than these reflections, I would say I'm quite happy with how it turned out. I was able to practice my depth of field and with Evie, my muse, being so patient and understanding with my explanations, the delivery of the poses were very on point. Her and I did plan on going to take another shoot, at Musick Point or a reserve nearby, even her house, but due to time constraints, we weren't able to do so.

So another fun fact about me is that i really really love halloween. Hindi yung horror movie in a sense pero yung vibes lang na cutesy, yung mga costume dress up ganun tsaka mga spooky horror themed episodes ng mga cartoons & tv shows. Kaya ganto yung ginawa kong lockscreen at homescreen.

Hindi talaga uso sa pilipinas yung trick or treat na tradition, pero naka attend ako ng ilang halloween parties noong bata ako. So ayun talagang sobrang in love ako sa season din na ito, kahit walang fall sa ph.

Ito lang siguro talaga yung hinihintay kong holiday year after year hanggang ngayon. So somehow kahit blue yung favorite colour ko sumusunod talaga yung black, purple & orange paminsan.
