I just had a thought that, from the article when they highlight Francesca's struggle in the ton...that what if that's how they segue into Pen making waves in the ballroom.

The season starts out with the diamond (Francesca), who everyone expects & Penelope, in all her awkward and meek glory has a hard time at first (this we know), only to subverge all expectations when she actually pulls potential suitors.

Meanwhile, Francesca has a difficult time, because she can not talk in groups (Pen can't either, but watch her use her Lady Whistledown voice and gain the interest of many with that confidence). Somewhere along the way, she meets John.

And thus we have the parallel of our heroine to our Bridgerton debutante: finding love right where you feel most comfortable and having your person who you can just enjoy on the sidelines with when you need to.

If the Bridgerton writers were smart they’d do the masquerade in the first episode of S3.... Why you ask?

It can set up both Polin for the rest of S3 & Benophie for S4.... 

Hear me out here:

Lady Violet originally asks Ben to go dance with Pen and he’s about to until he gets his ‘sense’ of magic and sees the Lady in Silver/Sophie and is distracted, etc. 

Colin in the book, ends up dancing with Pen before going to find Ben/LIS. 

They could literally just set up both couples right off the bat and get them both on their trajectory they need to be moving forward.

They need to set up Francesca meeting John and falling in love like in the back ground. Like the reason she was never accounted for is she was like hiding out in a library or taking any distance relatives summer house in the country(they said that was the reason for her not being in season one most) for peace. But then also when he dies.

Season 3+ Random Ideas/Theories

Here is a few random ideas/theories for what they could do in seasons 3 and on

-Penelope and Eloise won’t forgive each other until much after Eloise discovers Pen and Colin have romantic feelings for each other. Penelope will confront Eloise about how Eloise was self-centered and always assumed Penelope didn’t like courting or balls, so blind she didn’t even realize Pen was in love with her brother. I could easily see Eloise telling Colin that Pen is Lady Whistledown, trying to protect Colin. 

-I 100% believe Portia and Penelope will have major relationship development. The show has gone a lot further with Portia’s character than the books do, so I think Portia will learn to love Penelope and grow to be a better mother. We’ve seen sister love in season 2, I think we can see mother love in season 3.

-I think sister/friendship love will also be an important theme, as Penelope and Eloise eventually do make up. While I can see redemption and growth for Portia, I just can’t imagine it for Prudence yet. 

-Random thought- maybe Prudence will discover Penelope is Lady Whistledown, and try to blackmail Penelope. We had Eloise discover it already in Season 2, I think Penelope will start to feel trapped as some people slowly discover. I want to see Portia’s reaction to the reveal for sure. I hope we get Marina’s reaction to the news too.

-Penelope needs to come to face with all the people she hurt. 

-I think in the end, Penelope will find a new way to use her talent for writing that doesn’t hurt others. Maybe Penelope and Colin will write together.

-I really hope s3 has them married at least by episode 6 or 7. I hated not getting a married episode for Kanthony.

And now onto a few s4 and s5 thoughts-

-Since Theo Sharpe is from the poorer class, I feel like he will tie into Sophie and Benedict’s story. Maybe for the show, Sophie and Theo know each other. Maybe it will be as simple as Eloise giving Benedict advice to go after Sophie like she did with Theo.

-I think something tragic will happen to Theo after Benedict and Sophie end up together, that sends Eloise to do something drastic like running away to Sir Phillip. She will see her brother get his happy ending with his lower-class wife, but she for some reason won’t get her happy ending.

-Maybe something in Eloise breaks, and she decides to marry Sir Phillip just to please her family. She’s given up on independence and true love after the Theo tragedy. I think the tragedy would happen s4, and she is married to Phillip by the end of ep 2, even ep 1 s5. And the show is about the two of them learning to fall in love with each other and Eloise learning to be less self-centered and be a mother for the two kids. Alternatively, a tragedy with Theo leads to her connecting to Phillip, who just lost his wife. And she connects with him that way.

Okay guys, I've decided to put out a FUN question for us to consider tonight.....

Ya'll know how the family's in the ton all have 'color's' for their staff?

Like for instance the Bridgertons is purple:

So that begs the question.... If the Cowpers are indeed Sophie's family like it's all been confirmed.... What do we think they will be? What color will we see our dear Sophie donning?

I LOVE this shot so god damn much. The lit chandelier and vibrant red wall behind him. The lush red vase with what I think are little cupids on it. Shelves of gold-toned books with red-toned detailing. Thick yellow gold framing everywhere. His champagne cravat and dark blue velvet jacket. Dark red flowers right next to him, and even some yellow flowers in the top left corner. Everything here means romance and love and Penelope.

The way he is placed in the shot, behind the others, closer to the wall and the flowers- the production team has done to him what they had been doing to Pen. Colin and Pen have switched places. He’s the wallflower here.

And he looks positively sick. He is at that stage of love where he is physically ill with it. The heaviness of his love is reflected in the heaviness of everything in this room. Just looking at this shot gives me the stomach-sinking, blood-draining, soul-crushing feeling that you can only get by watching the person who means everything to you be with someone else.

Eloise: They’re okay, I guess. I mean, if I saw one, I wouldn’t throw a rock at it.

I can’t help but wonder if someone offers a reward to whoever unmasks Whistledown, will Colin want to pair up with Penelope to unmask the writer, leaving her once again, in the position of lying to someone she cares about and working around their theories to keep her secret the way she did with Eloise in the first two seasons?

It would appeal to Colin that he would make a name for himself, end Whistledown’s column, and the money would be a nice bonus.

Theory

Am I reaching or could this be associated w/ a Fran wedding-a reception, preparation or something?? Penelope does look like she's been crying. And I'm just curious if this could somehow be after she has struck out with a dance or flirting. Colin is smiling, but he kind of looks...reluctant (if that makes sense). Perhaps, he has just begun sensing that Pen is giving him the cold shoulder and he witnessed her down on her luck, so walks up to cheer her up. He could be happy she is talking to him again, but sad/hesitant since she looks upset (& if he feels guilty). But this makes sense to me more if it were episode 1.

OKAY OKAY WAIT I HAVE A THEORY I HAVENT SEEN YET

WHAT IF they’re at the ball and its Penelope’s first time with this brand new look and shes actually getting attention from suitors and the night is going pretty well. Colin is watching from afar confused because there’s something uneasy about the situation but he can’t figure out what so he’s just watching on the sidelines. NOW Penelope is feeling good and great and shes thriving but suddenly someone starts to get a little jealous of her. Penelope goes to get some lemonade or steps out for a moment for some air because this is all new to her. Cressida follows her outside and tells her she looks like a fool and ridiculous everyone is just mocking her and she will always be an insipid wallflower regardless of how she tries to hide it and no one will ever love her or want her. Of course because she’s still insecure at heart Penelope believes her. Cressida walks away with a smirk on her face and leave Penelope on the balcony alone. Penelope starts crying and runs away pulling pins from her hair. She stops at a gazebo and just sits and cries when someone calls her name from behind her. Colin having been watching her the whole night saw everything that happened and without thought followed her into the garden. He asks her what Cressida said and she tells him through tears and he gets closer wanting to wipe the tears away and comfort her. The closer he gets more beautiful she looks and he cant believe she would ever believe Cressida’s words. He’s in a trance listening to her words and fighting every urge to rest his hands against her cheeks and wipe away the tears when suddenly he hears “Colin will you please kiss me” or the exact quote from the book. And then we have this moment from the picture.

So sorry if anyone has posted something like this already i haven’t seen it yet so i just wanted to share. Can’t wait for season 3!!

OK OK I HAVE A NEW THEORY

I think he had a sit down with her. The way his coat is flipping, he has just stood up. He has apologized and explained himself for this:

She has explains why she is angry and why he really messed up her prospects.

He came to see her after the ball the night before, after she says this:

He groveled. She won’t let him forget it but this is the reconciliation and the beginning of their “lessons”.

Btw it’s actually cool and good that Penelope has a bit of vindictiveness and jealousy and anger and even that she’s secretive and that she lies. look at the family she comes from!! That’s the foundation her family is built on, and it would make no sense for her to be a sweet, angelic being with all that pettiness and spite being in her environment.

The way Portia backstabbed cousin Jack at the end of S2 is exactly the type of model that Penelope has for how to survive and to get what you want, and I’m not saying it’s right or good but it is interesting

I think she is a good person, and wants to do good things, and her doing those things despite her familial structure is what makes her a really compelling character, and also the times when she slips up and makes big mistakes. And I’m very interested to see how she will handle that balance this season and what she will make of herself
