2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BROTP?

I don't usually get involved in fandoms as heavily as I did years ago because that sort of shit landed me in a hot mess of trouble. The same goes with shipping. I usually prefer to keep my distance with all that noise.

But there are a few so called fandom OTPs I do see and go "Eh, more a BROTP for me".

One being Barb x Poppy from the Trolls fandom. Like I get it. Its cute and I don't have anything against it, but I more prefer them as a BROTP then I do a couple. Trolls in general has a number of that for me. Same for FNAF.

SuperJail was another one of those fandoms that had a lot of shipping discourse with the Warden being shipped with everyone and everything around him. Me, personally, I just don't see him fitting with anyone for how selfish and childish he acts. BROTPs maybe with some of the main cast if he didn't annoy the hell out of some of them.

ATLA though... Oh boy, so many popular ships and I am like a good chunk is BROTP material for me.

But overall, I don't really involve myself in big fandoms anymore nor the whole shipping discourse of it. It's a bit pointless and tiresome for me.

10. Most disliked arc? Why?

I guess it really depends on the show/movie/whatever piece of media it is.

I don't much care for idle/filler arcs where literally its just the characters doing random shit for filler. A filler episode is fine every so often but when its an entire arc/season, it feels completely wasted and pointless. Like all that time just wasted on stupid shenanigans that really did not need to be seen.

Same goes for character arcs where a character is just spending the entire time being moody and mopey, angry at everyone who helps them and never makes an attempt to help themselves when people help them. But suddenly in the end they act like they knew this all along and just become great at everything. I really despise a rushed arc of development like that. It doesn't feel rewarding nor does it feel like the character is likable at all, but just instantly forgiven for their nasty behavior despite never saying sorry or anything of the sort. They go back to being mean and its just..meh.

And anything that is rushed/pacing is too fast, that almost all the info/lore is dumped on you in one go that you have no time to soak it in. ESPECIALLY, when its cast off as not important later on. Like, come on, dude. Really? It's so annoying.

aside from that, her lack of relevance in azure moon sucks. i'm glad that at least she got more focus in azure gleam, as much of a cursed route as that was, if only because it just makes it so obvious how incredibly and delightfully toxic rhea has been for fodlan and its people

favorite line

every line rhea gets is just fucking. so good. cherami leigh is perfectly cast in the english dub. her lines are dripping with menace when they need to be, unsettling when they need to be, and vulnerable exactly when they need to be. every fucking line she gets in cf is just so, so good and the voice acting brings it all to life perfectly.

rhea's lines when byleth chooses to protect edelgard in the holy tomb are my favorite. especially the sheer contempt you can hear in "you are just another failure"

chills every time. the truth comes out there. exactly how she sees byleth and exactly how she sees humanity as a whole

brOTP

one of the fascinating things about rhea is that nobody is on an equal footing to her. not seteth or flayn, her fellow nabateans, whom she never answers to for any of the decisions she makes, despite seteth being nominally her advisor. not catherine or jeralt, who were brought under her wing in exchange for their servitude as knights, one of whom was successfully groomed by her and one of whom wasn't and got out while he still had a chance.

honestly cyril is the only human character in the game that rhea doesn't appear to have a purely transactional relationship with, and... he's a child. a child who cleans her room and does chores for her. okay that's pretty transactional now that i think about it.

so, given that rhea doesn't have anyone she can be bros with, my brotp for rhea is...

rhea/catherine. you get the more wholesome ending of a deposed rhea retreating from the world and catherine looking after her, which is quite bittersweet. but you can also be delightfully fucked up with it. imagine if cf ended with the black eagle strike force being routed in fhirdiad and fresh off a decisive church victory over the empire catherine had to live with the thousands of civilians she'd murdered on rhea's orders, with nowhere to go but deeper into rhea's arms. hhhhhhhhhh

OTP

i don't think rhea is capable of having a healthy romantic or sexual relationship with any other playable character in the game (she might have had one with wilhelm, but that was 1000 years ago), but a relationship doesn't have to be healthy to be incredibly fascinating and compelling. that is why my rhea otp is rhea and cf!dimitri. the feedback loop of bloodthirsty revenge they would enforce for each other would be fun to watch... from several miles away.

nOTP

rhea/byleth. like... rhea outright doesn't see byleth as a person (in stark contrast to the other humans in her life, who she at least understands are people and not merely vessels) until the end of ss/vw and tried to erase their entire identity without their foreknowledge or consent. that's not something i can ship. i can fantasize about how fucked up it is i guess but as a ship? nah

also rhea/edelgard is one of those ships which i like mainly for horny reasons but under certain circumstances it goes instantly to squick. and it's a fine line but a line nonetheless.

random headcanon

this isn't so much of a headcanon as it is an interpretation of sothis' characterization through her behavior in 3 hopes, but i believe that sothis felt no affection for the nabateans she created; they were just tools to her, and she cared about them as much as a paperclip maximizer cares about the paperclips it makes. and that makes it extra tragic for rhea, who wastes her entire life after slaying nemesis trying to recapture a maternal love that only really existed in her own head.

gives me real nier automata vibes. isn't that hilarious? doesn't it make you laugh?

unpopular opinion

rhea is the villain everyone accuses edelgard of being. she's a sympathetic and fascinating character, but at the end of the day she's an alien colonizer who spent 1000 years fucking up an entire continent. and she didn't have to be any of those things. you know it. i know it. she knows it

i imagine kirsten taking being in the early relationship stage with blaze to be fully comfortable with the team. she doesn’t hate them, it’s just her shyness so at first, even though she likes being around them, she still feels a bit too self-conscious unless blaze is there too. and like she’s glued to blaze that at one point blaze is like “i swear they’re great” and she mumbles “i know” and that’s when he realizes she’s just shy 😭 so after a while, in the middle of the conversation with the group, blaze intentionally brings up photography and when phoenix lights up, he goes “kirsten likes photography too” and that’s where their friendship begins

and after that, they bond over photography (the same way blaze and maya bond over fashion. #parallels) and other common interests they later find out about each other. early friendship stage, kirsten’s still a little conscious so phoenix makes sure to ask her open ended questions that he can elaborate later on with follow up questions. soon enough kirsten relaxes around him so she goes “blaze told me you can draw?” and he’ll probably say something like “oh yeah. i’ll have to show you sometime” like please it’s like a whole platonic meet-cute and it’s the cutest fucking thing ever. and when blaze notices kirsten growing more and more comfortable—like when she starts rambling about something—he’ll throw phoenix an appreciative look for making her feel at ease <333

Plot: the reader is Todoroki’s soulmate. Todoroki rejected reader because he thought he was in love with Momo and didn’t want to let fate dictate his life. Now the two of them have a conversation that was long over due.

Todoroki couldn’t blame her. They were foolish to think their puppy love could stand strong against fate.

Todoroki and Momo had been walking on eggshells around each other during their first year at UA. They were attracted to each other even though they weren’t each other’s destined partner. Trust them they checked, they had been so hopeful only for it to crumble when their left wrists were still void of black Ink even after they had their first kiss.

They had been laying low with their blossoming relationship until the fateful day Shoto and (y/n) first touched.

Shoto didn’t know what to think of (l/n). She didn’t stand out as a person or a hero in training, so when they were paired up on a project there seemed to be a never ending silence between them, with his lack of social skills and her lack of- well everything they didn’t even know where to begin. After a couple of awkward questions about what they wanted to do, they were able to get started, and he thought then that (l/n) wasn’t so bad, but when he dropped his pencil and they both reached for it, that’s when it all went south. He remembers the stinging feeling he felt on his wrist and couldn’t help flinching at the uncomfortable sensation.

He didn’t need to look at his wrists to know what had happened and he didn’t need to think twice before grabbing his things and giving a quiet excuse for his sudden need to be very far away from (l/n).

It wasn’t until he was locked away safely in his room that he dared look at his wrist, and there it was in bold black ink, in a surprisingly illegible yet legible font, how does someone achieve that? ‘(Y/n) (l/n)’.

He’s not quite sure how long he stared at it, but he knows that by the time he was able to organize his thoughts there were birds chirping out side welcoming the new day.

He had rejected her.

She had been okay with it.

He didn’t tell Momo who his soulmate was, but he did tell her that he didn’t want to continue hiding their relationship. What was stopping them from sharing their happiness with the rest of the class? Momo believed they would be looked down on for not waiting on their soulmates. It wasn’t common for people to date anyone who wasn’t their soulmate, it was even more uncommon to reject a soulmate, but look at him, he did it and he was perfectly fine- they were perfectly fine.

Momo was the one who came up with the idea to draw on their soulmate tattoos, unaware of the fact that there already was a name on Todoroki’s wrist, unaware of the pain she was causing to that other half.

Coming clean to their classmates had gone surprisingly well, and Todoroki wasn’t sure how he felt about that, about that fact that (y/n) didn’t yell or question him on the why.

Why had he lied?

Why had he covered her up like she was something not worth looking at?

Why did he rub his relationship in her face?

Why not give them a chance if he was gonna chase something temporary?

Instead she had looked him in the eyes and gifted him a soft smile.

After everyone had scattered around the common area after their announcement, Todoroki decided to sit outside and take a breather.

He couldn’t help but sigh.

Thinking back to the day he and (y/n) first touched, he wished he hadn’t been such a coward.

He wished he had given her a chance to speak, because looking back now he realized that he did all the talking, he called all the shots not giving her a say in the matter.

She followed his wishes and yet he can’t help but want to be selfish and take it all back.

He had been wrong to think she had been lacking anything because she was everything. She was perfect to him, for him.

He couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped him.

Fate had told him she was his, a gift from the universe to cherish and like a spoiled brat he threw it away, ruined it. ‘Seems to run in the family’, he thought bitterly.

(Y/n) (L/n) was everything he wanted and he didn’t deserve her.

The worst part was that the person who helped him realize that was the hotheaded blonde of 1-A (now 2-A).

He was the one who brought out the best in (y/n) or maybe the only one who had bothered to listen, who had bothered to truly see her.

Todoroki couldn’t help but resent him for it yet he was grateful, because without Bakugou pushing her to open up, he would have never realized that he had shut the door on something beautiful without opening it.

“Why are you out here? Curfew is in 20 minutes” he heard her soft voice.

He didn’t reply and he felt her sit beside him on the stairs.

And there was silence.

What could he possibly say now?

“It’s okay you know?” She began.

He finally listened.

“I’ll be honest, it had hurt- you had hurt me when you shut me out without giving me a chance to prove myself worthy of being on your wrist. I questioned if it had been something I did, something I didn’t do, or if it had been my appearance that had caused you to utter those words. Bakugou told me that it shouldn’t be something I beat myself over, that if it had been me that you would have told me, but you didn’t. You just told me that your heart belonged to another”

She stopped and finally looked at him, and he at her.

“ Im sorry things between you two didn’t work out how you wanted them to-” she had began, but he didn’t let her finish.

“Don’t. It’s not your fault, it’s mine. I thought I knew what I wanted and if I’m being honest I think I just wanted to be able to choose at least one thing for myself.” He said without thinking, it was time he stopped hiding from the truth, the selfish truth he hid under his not so pure love for Momo.

“Ever since I was born I have been nothing but a tool for my father. The just right child with the just right quirk. I wasn’t allowed to spend time with my siblings, I wasn’t allowed to play, I wasn’t allowed to make my own decision. It was always my father, and then I found out I wasn’t able to choose who I wanted to be with because apparently fate did that, so I would question what it is that I got to decide for myself

because if fate and my father made the decisions then what was I left with? What part of my life was actually mines for the taking?” He looked at the ground unable to continue meeting her eyes.

“So even if it’s not enough I do apologize, (y/n), for thinking so selfishly that I didn’t take into consideration the fact that you didn’t choose me either and that I didn’t try to make it easier for the both of us” he said clenching his fist to keep some sort of anchor on his mess of emotions.

Todoroki felt a small hand (or at least smaller that his own) lay on top of his own.

“Maybe we’ve both been going about this the wrong way? So what if we have each other’s name on our wrist? that doesn’t mean we should get married next week” (y/n) said in an attempt to lighten his load, to let him know that he didn’t need to beat himself over it just like she didn’t need to.

“ let’s just start as friends and see how things go and then maybe someday who knows” she shrugged her shoulders casually and flashed him a smile.

Todoroki looked at her and she at him.

He relaxed his hand that was underneath her and let himself hold her hand.

“Someday?” He asked

“Someday” she grinned.

A/N: Inspired by Troy and Abed’s BrOTP on the TV show, Community, where the boys are bored and decide to make a blanket fort during their sleepover!

Now that the Yule Ball was over and Christmas had come and passed, all the hype and excitement had died down. The Hogwarts students were becoming bored and restless for the remainder of the holidays since there were only so many places to roam around the castle. And because they were in the full throes of winter, this made for an even greater limitation on activities to partake in, and most students weren’t interested in studying over break.

So, Dean and Seamus found themselves sprawled out on a couple of armchairs in the Gryffindor common room just after lunch, staring at the gold tiles on the ceiling. Their limbs hung off the cushioned furniture in unnatural forms, dangling in the air as small huffs and sighs became louder with every exhale.

“Will you two stop it with your moaning?” admonished Parvati from across the room.

“We’re just bored,” Seamus replied. “You don’t happen to have any ideas to keep us occupied this afternoon, do you?”

He wiggled his eyebrows, nonverbally suggesting a proposition that made both girls scoff in disgust.

“Gross, Shay,” Lavender rolled her eyes at his remark.

“That’s not what you were saying the other night,” Seamus smirked.

“Yes, when you were dressed in your finest robes and charming, acting like a true gentleman. Now, you’re just a frog again,” Lavender gave it right back to him.

“A frog?” Seamus wrinkled his nose, not fully understanding Lav’s reference, looking to Dean for clarification.

“It’s a muggle fairy tale that involves a princess and a frog and having to—”

“Yeah, alright, I’m bored again. What are we going to do?” 

Dean sat up in the chair and stared into the crackling flames of the fire, an idea forming in his mind.

“Oh, what if we go upstairs, change into our pajamas and build a blanket fort!”

Seamus moved to sit up a little too fast at Dean’s suggestion and landed on the floor. Despite falling, a wide smile erupted onto his face at the idea. 

“That’s brilliant, mate! How didn’t we think of that sooner?”

The boys scrambled to their feet to escape up the boy’s staircase when a derisive laugh stopped them.

“A blanket fort? What are you, seven?” Lavender insulted while Parvati giggled at her jab.

Dean and Seamus paid no mind to the negative comment, and instead, Dean invited them to join.

“You can come up in an hour or so and hang out if you want! You’ve gotta be dressed in your jammies, though, or we won’t permit entry.”

“I think we’re good. We’ll find something more suitable for teenagers to do,” Parvati dismissed the invitation.

“Well, have fun reading your old magazines and doing your nails, then,” Seamus shrugged as they disappeared up to the fourth-year’s dorm.

A few hours later, the boys were sitting inside an oasis surrounded by cotton and polyester blends. Their original attempt only spanned the area between their beds, but Seamus thought to ask the house-elves in the kitchens if they could borrow some extra blankets for their endeavours. The elves were more than happy to oblige, and by the time Dean and Seamus returned to their dorm, there were two large stacks of linens for them to hang. 

The original area then expanded to cover the entirety of the boy’s dorm. In order to conserve the number of blankets they had, Dean had the brilliant idea to unhook the curtains on the four-poster beds and utilize those first. An array of golds, crimsons, beiges and greys engulfed the open space as the colors reflected in the glow of the bell-jar lights the boys were using for more brightness.

With deep sighs of satisfaction, the pair sat back against their beds, admiring their hard work. The only downside to the fort was that the ceilings were a little too low. If they sat fully erect, their heads were only two inches shy of the blankets over them.

Dean turned to Seamus, “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”

Seamus hung his head and nodded. “We’re too old for this, aren’t we?”

“Yeah…” Dean agreed.

But then a thought crossed his mind, and an imperceptible smile donned his face. “What if we used our brooms to help extend the ceiling, so it doesn’t drop so low where there isn’t a bedpost to keep it up? That would vault the ceiling a couple feet!”

“That’ll make it work for a teen—NO! A man!” Seamus added.

The boys looked at each other and broke out into a song to pump them up for the remodel.

“Ba-boo ga-boo, boo-chee. Ba-boo ja-boo, boo-boo tee!”

Seamus broke out into more beatboxing as Dean took over with a melody that featured a robotic voice.

Their efforts were successful, and the blanket fort became more spacious as a result. Now, they could enjoy the space until they had to go down for dinner. The two were in the middle of playing the muggle card game, War, when they heard the door open.

“Holy hippogriffs, what is this?!” Neville said upon returning to the dormitory.

Dean and Seamus both looked at each other. It was clear that both boys hadn’t thought about what would happen when their mates returned. Using two separate openings in the fort, they popped their heads through to acknowledge the newcomer.

“We made a blanket fort!” Dean explained as the shock on Neville’s face transitioned to glee.

“This is brilliant! Can I join?”

Dean and Seamus shared a look. In their excitement and haste, they’d forgotten about their three roommates. They couldn’t exactly tell Neville ‘no’ since he lived there too. Plus, it might be fun to have all the boys participate. More people would mean more options for card games. Seamus nodded, and Dean looked back to Neville.

“You may enter as long as you follow the rules: No magic, no farting, and no pillow fighting.”

“And only if you can get some hot chocolate from the kitchen, first!” Seamus requested, awarding him a side-eye from Dean.

“Y-yeah, sure! I’ll be back in a jiff!”

When Neville left, he must have spread the word to the other Gryffindors about the fort. Harry and Ron returned with Neville to join in on the fun, and Ron’s older brothers followed to scope it out. Dean and Seamus were fine with Harry and Ron inviting Hermione into the fort, and by that time, Lavender and Parvati’s interest got the better of them, and they joined in too. 

When it was time for dinner, it was evident that the blanket fort idea spread to the rest of Gryffindor, and they were popping their heads into the other dorm rooms to see what their peers had come up with. Professor McGonagall was beside herself when all of Gryffindor showed up to the Great Hall in their nightclothes, but the twinkle in Professor Dumbledore’s eye quelled her reprimanding. 

Chatter gradually spread to students in Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, and it was confirmed by Ernie and Padma the next morning that their houses had joined in on the fun. The inter-house blanket forts were enough to cause the holiday lull to subside, and the houses came together to offer different events and activities to join over the next two days.

On the third day, however, the news had spread that Slytherin began making their own blanket forts, and Dean and Seamus had to make a difficult decision.

“Surely, we can co-exist?” Dean asked with hope threaded in his voice.

Seamus shook his head and looked to the rest of his dorm-mates. “We know the ways of the world. The blanket forts have officially mainstreamed. What’s next? Will the professors  join, as well?”

Loud grumbles were heard among their peers at the horrifying thought.

“No, we can’t allow this to spread any further. We’ve had our fun, and the new term begins in two days. It is time.”

Dean nodded in solidarity. No one wanted this to be the end, but they all knew a good thing can’t last forever.

“Alright, team. You know what to do. Spread the word, but watch yourselves and be safe. We don’t need another sock war erupting for this act of sacrifice.”

Harry, Neville, Ron, Hermione, Parvati and Lavender nodded at Dean’s words and dispersed throughout the castle to notify the others. Meanwhile, Dean and Seamus crawled to opposite corners of the fourth-year fort and reached up to latch onto the emergency release socks. On the count of three, both boys pulled, and the blankets came tumbling down around them.

The best friends lay there in the pile of sheets, mourning the loss of what will be remembered as the greatest Christmas hols that Hogwarts has ever seen. Ignoring the mess that would need to be taken care of eventually, they enjoyed each other’s company as the soft swish of blankets crumpling to the ground could be heard throughout the castle.

Catra

Why I like them: She can be pretty entertaining and snarky, and I often like those kinds of characters in fiction. Plus, while she often comes across as being a bit of an underachiever and someone who tries to avoid doing actual work, you got to admire the fact that she is actually a capable strategist when she actually tries. 

Why I don’t: She seems to have mostly gotten over this by the last season, partially thanks to being forced to stop, but I never really liked how she was never willing to accept that she was even partially to blame for when her life went bad.

Favorite episode (scene if movie): “Ties That Bind” without a doubt. That is almost definitely her at her most fun, since she’s literally just messing with Bow and especially Glimmer for basically the whole episode. 

Favorite season/movie: Probably Season 5, but I do also kinda love her in Season 2 as well. 

Favorite line: I know a lot of people love her line about how she thinks Adora doesn’t want her the way she wants Adora, but my favorite line is the one where she says that she’s working on controlling her temper.

Favorite outfit: Her princess prom outfit. That girl looks good in a tux.

OTP: Catradora. Though, I also really like Catrouble. 

Brotp: Catra and Glimmer. I do also kinda ship them under very specific circumstances, but overall, I see them as being those kinds of friends who love to annoy each other, but still love one another. 

Head Canon: If she was a princess, or more accurately, learned she was born royal, I actually see her choosing to abdicate and never actually take on those duties. It’s just not something she’s interested in.

Unpopular opinion: I guess maybe the fact that I don’t really see her particularly wanting kids, or at least, not being even remotely interested in having any for a while? I could actually see her being fine with never having children, honestly - she’s fine with “aunt” status.

A wish: That she actually gets some therapy. I mean, just being with people who will treat her well is probably gonna help, but she still needs to see a professional. I also would like to maybe see her get a bit of anger management, but that can be part of the therapy.

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Not so much an “oh god please don’t” thing, but I really don’t want her to have a ton of kids when she’s older, especially not all at once. That would be way too stressful for her, and I think she’d be more than happy with just one kid.

But my most recent one is for Time War 4 in Beyond. He was just so off in that story, and we had already seen a similar arc for that with Narvin, trying to go back in time to send Valyes to prevent the Daleks from being too powerful. But the motive for Brax was completely wrong.

Mostly because yes, he is a Time-Lord and is from Gallifrey, but the thing with Brax, is that he never wanted to conform to Gallifrey. He's always been the one to get out there, gather knowledge, and explore and change things for the better. He even started the Armegeddon convention and got many aliens to ban from using dangerous weapons! (yes, it was nearly a disaster, but his mind and heart were in the right place and I very much like to think he was the one to inspire the Doctor to travel and have the freedom of traveling.)

It's wrong for me to say he doesn't care about Gallifrey because of course, he does. He wouldn't have become a politician otherwise to try and change things for the better, but Gallifrey has always treated Brax unjustly even after all the sacrifices he has done to try and make his world a better place. He was terrified of the Time War and though he has faced the Daleks in 'Death and the Daleks' after the Fifth Axis invasion, the reasons why he wanted the Beyond didn't sit right. It was more of a Narvin thing to do rather than a Brax thing.

He always seems to get along better with Leela and Benny rather than with the actual Time-Lord's and I think it's because he doesn't have to hide anything from them. The humans can see Brax for who he is, far more than other Time-Lord's can see him or how he sees himself, and personally, I think he likes not having to hide or put up a facade and he actually gets to have some fun with Leela and Benny. Whereas with his own people, they are always so suspicious of each other it's impossible for him to relax or even get to that level with them unless it's someone he absolutely trusts. Which is well...

The character development he has gone through has been really written poorly in the last few boxsets, and I really wish big finish would stop using him as back fodder to keep rescuing Romana and getting her out of sticky situations, mostly from the mess she has made and then have Romana be suspicious and distrusting off him even though HE had saved her and HE would never let ANY harm come to her. EVER.

I also wish, rather than Narvin Brax was added in the latest Bernice Summerfield boxset because even though 'Gallifrey' by Guy adams was disappointing and I do love Narvin, I just wish big finish didn't keep using him and gave Brax an opportunity to shine once in a while. Plus,Brax is much more suited in the Benny universe and I would have loved to have seen Brax react to Benny being on Gallifrey with the unbound Doctor and how he has to face another Alternative Brother off his. I think that would have worked so much better and you could do so much in regards to that relationship as well.

So, gotta be honest... this is not a Blind reaction thing, I actually watched it in French first so I know most of the stuff already 😅 It's entertaining, it got great animation, but nothing more than that in my opinion 🤷‍♀️

Still there is stuff I liked or I want to point out, and finally I'm seeing the English version so I can actually understand what the HECK they are saying 🤩

FINAL THOUGHTS

There are a few little details that bothered me a little, and it wasn't as exciting as I maybe hoped it was going to be, but it was fine. Enjoyable still. These characters make me like the show, even when it got nothing too impactful 🤷‍♀️

But I got triggered about that lightning thing with Jay 😅 I guess I'll just fanfic whatever I had in mind...

The writing was really less engaging, a little normal in a way? Idk just a feeling. Nice to see Ronin again though, I really like him. And nice to see Jay freaking out, I really like that too 😂

To be honest I wanted to put down my thoughts on this one because I REALLY wanna do the same with Nya's season 🤩🤩 I already know that Maya is gonna be there and I am so HAPPY already!!! 💙💙💙

top 5 brotps?

oh boy let’s see here. okay okay okay okay. the hard one here is like...do I include things where I also ship them non-platonically?? and I decided to go with “fine to do so but it’s gotta be things where the primary interest is brotpdom”

1. Thor & Loki. Look, I had to. I just...there’s a lot there, there’s a lot there, a lot of it alarmingly personal and emotionally fraught for me personally, and I have accepted that about myself and it is still very true. The pain and love and dysfunction, all of it blown up to very dramatic levels - way beyond what would be “reasonable” obviously because these are characters written to be larger than life - and yet still recognizable to me in...yeah, alarmingly personal ways.

Never forget the long conversation I had with a couple friends about my childhood that ended with “no wonder you like Loki so much.” And a lot of why I like Loki so much? Has a lot to do with his relationship with Thor.

2. Jiang Cheng & Wei Wuxian. Get into a show for the gay, come out if it with a new pair of (martial) siblings, is my motto. Here we have not only the deep feelings and dysfunction going on, the relationship rupture that’s deep and difficult and ugly, but also the sheer ambiguity of their relationship to each other and what its status is, and the way that their mutual dysfunctions align perfectly to make everything between them even more dysfunctional.

I love a pair where both people are equally but differently fucked up and how that plays into the way they relate to each other and that is so much about Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng. They’re a mess and I love them.

3. Felix Harrowgate & Mildmay. What’s a brotp that doesn’t involve undertones of incest, or overtones of, actually, though some of that is the sublimated connection between love and sex in Felix’s head and anyway, I love these two, they’re having a horrible time all of the time and are often very miserable and honestly, I just have a thing for codependent siblings who mean a lot to each other while simultaneously having an excruciatingly fucked up relationship, which fits these two to a T. And just! The arc of their relationship, too!

Sarah Monette gave me, specifically, a gift with these two and their relationship arc and I’m never going to be over it.

4. Celegorm & Curufin. The terrible twosome! Two brothers who love each other very much and are also not particularly good influences on each other! But who needs a good influence when you have love and a fucked up family legacy you’re trying to live up to?

Anyway I’m always on some level up in my Celegorm and Curufin feelings and particularly how I think about their relationship developing over the course of The Silmarillion and becoming both more codependent and more strained over time. They do everything together! Including, eventually, die.

And thinking about them is making me want to write Silm fic again. No, Lise, that’s the devil talking.

5. This one was harder because it’s less obvious to me another that’s, like, on this level? But ultimately I decided to go with a current fandom one and do Mu Qing & Xie Lian. Which is kind of an outlier because their relationship is not really like others on this list! It’s closest to Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian’s in some ways, but it’s very different - the status differential, for one, is an even greater factor and stress point between these two than it is with Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng. And their relationship is...it spends more time being bad (or at least, not great) than it does being good. But I just...it is important to me, in its messiness (yes, again!) and its dysfunction (again!) and the ways in which Xie Lian knows Mu Qing very well, and values him, and the ways that Mu Qing both resents and cares deeply about Xie Lian.

This is one of those archetypal relationships for me, too, where I’m like but I want more because there is more, I want to know where they go post-canon, where they leave things at the end of TGCF proper is just a beginning.

Anyway this relationship is important to me and I wish people would do more with it in fic, obligatory plug for @curiosity-killed’s fic the reel of this life.

but this is of course leaving off a whole bunch of other possibilities, among which I could consider He Xuan and Hua Cheng, Xue Yang and Jin Guangyao (when it’s not Xue Yang/Jin Guangyao), almost all my Black Jewels Trilogy feelings, any number of dynamics where I’m not picky about form it takes but just like the character interactions...

it is funny to me that this list of brotps is characterized by three actual sibling relationships, one martial sibling relationship, and one outlier. I really went literal here, didn’t I.

Alistair told me enough about you and what you're doing that I couldn't help but write, even if I shouldn't. There's a lot Thank you, first of all, for keeping him safe. I know I don't need to, and really shouldn't because it's a distraction, but I worry about him when he goes on daring heroic quests without me. Of course, I'm on one of my own without him right now, so pot, kettle and all that. But if we can end the Calling, this absence will be worth it. Or so I tell myself. I still miss him, so again, thank you for keeping him safe during his time with the inquisition. I'm keeping safe, or trying to, for his sake as well. The Mandalorian Chapter 15 reactions; *nobby nobbs voice* ‘s all gone a bit percychological, sir

 - so from both chapter 6 and now this: rick famuyiwa is incredible at portraying prolonged discomfort and tension (and also at getting din’s endless love for that baby across through the stress of being separated from him. this is the very first episode with no baby in it at all, isn’t it? wow that’s a heartbreaking milestone to reach im crying)

I liked this episode SO MUCH but I had to pause it pretty often and take a breather because it all made me so viscerally uncomfortable on din’s behalf -- not just the armour and having to take the helmet off and be seen for the (almost, ilu IG-11) first time in decades, people keep touching him in this episode when he clearly doesn’t want them to but can’t stop it and it makes me want to claw my own skin off in sympathy, it’s so awful. that’s really neat film making to manage to keep that tension steady almost all the way through!!! 

honestly this episode felt a little bit like psychological horror, with the cheering storm troopers and din in the wrong armour and clearly not digging it and there’s the palpable absence of baby and that ever present dread of being Perceived when you’re not ready for it; everything’s turned upside down from how it should be. and it’s playing with that discomfort both in the main character and in us, the audience, in having the familiar be made unfamiliar and also introducing these questions that shake up everything (that feeling you get of ‘but... if it’s not the helmet, and not the armour, but there’s his face, but we’ve only seen that face once before so it’s still basically new to us, is this... is this still him. is this still Dad’ (oooh I wonder if we’re... sort of getting some of the ??? the baby would be feeling about it too?) we’ve all imprinted on that t-shaped visor like little baby birds, and this was a very clever episode to break us out of that and start to really get used to the thought of him having several faces that are real simultaneously, in a way, and not just a voice. it’s all very smart and interesting and I’m sure I’ll have a lot of incoherent thoughts about this in the weeks to come lol)    

- the actual reason din can’t take off the helmet is that if people were able to see his wide confused puppy eyes they would no longer find it in themselves to send him on long arduous side missions and would help him immediately just so he’d feel better, and that would rob us of like 80% of the content for this show 

mayfeld in this episode: clearly a casualty of this. he literally sees one glimpse of the vulnerability there and then within five seconds goes on to materialize a few redeeming character traits after being a complete jackass for an episode and a half. (I mean. he was 100% still an imperial so I’m a bit ‘hm.’ about how easily especially cara let him off the hook, but with the way it was set up I guess it would have been quite shitty of them to just throw him back in prison so I mean I GUESS. I would be endlessly grateful someone got my awkward bff out of there alive and well too I suppose)

- I actually think din’s sense/integrity of self has gotten so much stronger and more resilient (though probably still quite fragile pls handle with care precious cargo within); if this had happened in the first season I think it might honestly just have killed him (and if it weren’t for IG-11 it probably would have lol)

- can you beLIEVE din is so bad at lying that they literally should plan for contingencies over it fjkasdlhfskajdhfsdj     

- very grateful for the scene with the spear throw that’s basically there to reassure us ‘uh-huh, he absolutely knows how to use it, don’t worry about that part at least’

I want to make a whole post about that fight scene, though, it’s just so GOOD! there’s so much storytelling and characterization in it! even out of the armour din has some real hand to hand MOVES!! he clearly came out of that aching all over, he can barely get back in his seat!!!

- so what I’m mainly taking away from this is that din absolutely cuts his own hair and you know what? he does a good job considering the conditions he has to work under, I love him  

I still find it so goddamn darling that he meticulously maintains that little mustache/stubble combo under there even when there’s every reason to believe no one will ever see it 

I suppose we can also gather that he did not ask cobb about whatever insane feat of magic he’s come up with to avoid helmet hair, but I don’t care looking a bit frazzled and tousled is exactly right for him (he’s so put together when he’s in the armour and a MESS when he’s out of it and I  l o v e  it) 

- boba fett is honestly so fucking hot in this I don’t know what to do with myself haha. he’s so CALM and CALCULATED and COLLECTED in his newly painted armour and he’s GOT THIS and he made that ‘I’ve got one of those faces. one of jango’s many, many, many faces’ joke and he’s so thicc now, he looks like he could easily lift me over his head with one hand and he’s just quietly steady and undramatically supportive and sdalfhsdjhfsa 

- ...din does know who the clone troopers were, right. I mean of course he does. he has to. but does he though. I’m sure he does and just wasn’t thinking. 

- no matter how stressful it was I’m still really grateful that in the end taking the helmet off was something din got to do himself -- it’s under some duress, but it’s still his choice and for the sake of the baby, and almost in two more manageable steps between putting on the storm trooper gear for a different helmet before taking it off altogether. it’s not something done to him by gideon, for example, that would be. so much yuckier and worse. he still has that control and agency intact, even if it’s been tested really hard, and now gideon doing that doesn’t hold the exact same nightmarish power anymore because there’s already a little space opened in din’s mind for different things it can mean, if you see what I mean. I’m not sure I see what I mean actually I just have a lot of feelings haha. so I guess thank you mayfeld for being decent about it and helping him towards that realization that he can still be himself outside these really really inflexible structures he’s set up around himself for like. stability and keeping himself upright for a really long time, and that even someone halfway decent won’t disrespect the boundaries he still has about it at any given moment. man there’s a lot in this episode isn’t there

- the sigh din gave when he saw even more pirates coming and knew he had to get back up... never has a single moment in cinema better captured how I feel about being alive. most relatable man in the world din djarin

- it was really cruel of them to make me listen to din’s dead bleak voice say ‘the child is gone’ again, it wrecks my heart every goddamn time 

- again... I wish carano wasn’t Like That in real life because the cara & fennec scenes should have been everything I could ever dream. ah well fennec was still wonderful and if I just allow myself to think in-universe for a few seconds it was really touching that din would entrust cara with his entire armour, that’s some prime BrOTP energy right there

I love that we got two female characters who were just allies and working together, no competition or nothin’. listen the bar is low but it’s nice to see something actually leap gracefully over it as well lol

- this was one of those with some pretty big open plot holes (why, exactly, would a scan of a completely unknown face be helpful to get into this classified system lol), but a) I don’t care, the emotional storyline was so sound it doesn’t really matter and b) eh handwave handwave let’s say mayfeld programmed that little stick with the good shit and overrode the code saying there needed to be an identity match within the system, it’s all fine 

- I know I joke a lot about this but din really is one of the most relatable characters I’ve ever had. just watching him struggle with eye contact and going pretty much nonverbal under enough stress is like. wow a bit close to home there could we, perhaps, nOT?? (honestly though these are trauma/anxiety things I really don’t see portrayed a lot, especially in protagonists, it’s so odd but healing to see it in a character I love and who’s EXTREMELY competent in many other settings)

- din repeating gideon’s speech back to him word for word (except for the crucial detail that he calls grogu ‘him’ instead of ‘it’ 😭😭😭) and saying nothing else is truly Everything. I’ve said some stuff about din’s deliberate and thoughtful relationship to language in the past and this is such an amazing example of it; he’s remembered that pitch perfect all this time, he’s kept it around in his head and mulled it over and then redeployed it to change the meaning of it completely from dehumanization to love. can you. can you even imagine. and it’s yet another example of his hilarious wonderful petty streak and I can never get enough of it fasjhdfkjalhs    

- din always noticing the children first and foremost Y_______Y (the kids running by is the only thing you see him sort of acknowledge when he’s walking into the covert in season 1 too)  

- please... please I just need him to be able to hold that baby against his chest all safe and sound and okay again I can’t it’s........ hh

random fact: sage is cross-dominant. she writes with her left hand, does everything else with the other.

arion x sage: they kiss and cuddle a lot lol and when they’re together and arion sees a rat - because it’s new york - he’ll point at it and tell sage: “hey, it’s you!” if he sees another rat, “it’s you again!” and sage always tells him to shut up but she’s also laughing. arion’s also the only person who knows that on bad nights, sage sleeps with a plushy so he gave her a light brown teddy bear he made for her at build-a-bear and named it bearion devereux.

brotp: nikolas x sage x blane (x arion): over time - when arion and blane finally moved past their differences - all four of them have become a tight friend group at and outside of work. in fact, the roles are reversed because now it’s blane who has to endure nikolas and sage’s frequent banters which primarily consist of nikolas being effortlessly witty and sage eventually running out of comebacks. and once she does, she turns to blane like “blane, can you believe this guy?” then he just rolls his eyes and says “what now?” which prompts nikolas to tease his partner, “now you know what it feels like.” so blane ultimately shifts his attention to arion: “make them stop.” but arion just grins and smugly asks him to “say please.”

random fact: piper left wayhaven for new york because she wanted a fresh start. when she took a job at iaos, she had no clue she’d still be dealing with supernaturals.

nikolas x piper: when they don’t have work, piper teaches nikolas how to play guitar and even though nikolas quickly learns, he’ll say “how do you play this chord again?” just so piper will hold his hand again. sometimes, she can tell he’s just faking it but it’s whatever because she wants to hold his hand too. when nikolas teaches piper how to play the piano, he sits her on his lap then puts his hands over hers and rests his chin on her shoulder. if he’s feeling playful, he’ll poke her where she’s ticklish every time she messes up.

brotp: blane x piper: early into their friendship, piper bought a little succulent plant for blane as a “peace offering” even though blane never asked for it. to this day, he still has it on his desk. he also looks out for her the way he does for his partner despite knowing she can take care of herself, but he initially wouldn’t admit it - one time when nikolas was busy at the lab, piper invited blane to have lunch. when someone accidentally bumped into her, she insisted she was fine but blane told the stranger to “watch where you’re going.” when piper knowingly smiled at him, he was like “what? i have to get you back to nikolas in one piece.”

brotp: arion x piper x rylan: piper is introverted and a bit less adventurous; arion likes to take her to amusement parks which they both love and where piper feels carefree. eventually rylan comes along and they become a solid trio; arion and rylan like to coax her out of her shell but sometimes it’s like piper has an angel and a devil on each of her shoulders — rylan: hey have you tried [insert daring activity]? ; arion: pipes you don’t have to do that — but like blane, arion and rylan have a tendency to be a bit protective of piper like their little sister

bonus brotp: kian x piper: piper and kian don’t have a lot in common so they don’t hang out often (also because she doesn’t wanna bother him) but when they do, piper genuinely enjoys kian’s company especially when she needs some down time and he doesn’t seem to mind her presence anyway. they just sit there making small talk or in comfortable silence. when rylan’s being annoying and teasing piper, kian occasionally deadpans “leave her alone, villanueva” even when piper obviously isn’t bothered at all

random fact: tris’s favorite flower is tulips. she dreams of visiting all the tulip fields in the netherlands one day.

blane x tris: they have a very chill relationship tbh and i guess ordinary? (in the best way!) - they cook together, cuddle and talk about their days, etc. and while blane doesn’t like to remember how hostile he was to tris, tris likes to reminisce every once in a while and joke about it. if blane has a scowl on his face (not because he’s upset; just one of his default facial expressions that tris is so used to) she’ll cup his cheeks and coo: “it’s like i’m meeting you for the first time all over again”

here’s a specific headcanon for them because i feel like the one above sounds lazy 😭😭 — for their first anniversary, blane and tris decided to have a simple date because it falls on a work day and they’ll both be “too tired” to do something elaborate and a bit fancier than usual. on the day of the occasion, blane comes home to tris’ surprise candlelit dinner along with a few more candles that she has set up safely around the apartment to loosely recreate the lantern scene from tangled, blane’s comfort movie.

brotp: nikolas x tris x kian: tris loves answering crossword puzzles and when she’s stumped, she always asks nikolas and kian for help that she eventually made a group chat with just the three of them for this purpose. they’re also the group to most likely have a friendly competition over who has the least number of guesses on wordle; nikolas and tris would often ask kian first how many tries it took him to get the word, secretly hoping he used up all his attempts because loser buys dinner.

parker faye

random fact: parker participated in competitive swimming in her late teens. up to this day, she likes to rightfully brag about being a butterflyer.

rylan x parker: they either cuddle or wrestle. parker will wear one of rylan’s old clothes and rylan will tell her where he was hiding the time he was wearing it and parker will kiss him and remind him he’s home now OR she’ll act all edgy and say “bet i can beat your ass” and rylan’s like “oh yeah?” and she’s like “i’m one of iaos’s top hunters, remember?” and he goes “i wiped the floor with your and devereux’s asses, remember?” then she’ll tackle him onto the couch and wrestle until they fall into a fit of giggles. here are the sweeter headcanons lmao

brotp: kian x parker: when rylan and arion are out, parker likes to stop by kian’s penthouse. she occasionally brings a bottle of liquor she hasn’t seen at his place (he’s most likely already tried it though lmao) and it eventually becomes their thing to have small talk over drinks. sometimes parker orders takeout or if kian offers to cook, she’ll help him in the kitchen. overall, they have a lowkey kind of friendship <3

random fact: also a former detective in wayhaven. despite being good at combat and weaponry, she hates to fight more than anything.

kian x sutton: i wrote some pre-relationship headcanons months ago soooo for relationship hc — sutton’s naturally affectionate but she’s aware of kian’s boundaries on pda so she makes up for it when they’re at home where she gets to be cozy with him and sit on his lap lmaooo and kian knows how badly sutton wishes she could do magic. sometimes, he places his hands on hers and does some very harmless light magic, making it look like it’s coming right out of her fingers.

brotp: arion x sutton: baking is one of sutton’s frequent hobbies and arion is her “official” taste tester. in return, if arion buys a new game, sutton has to try it with him - lots of “arion, i don’t get this!” “you’ll get the hang of it.” but she never does. arion comes over at sutton’s place so often that when he finds her working on a new house project, he no longer questions it. he starts bringing her food in case she forgot to eat again. then she’ll remind him to drink water in case he forgot again.

brotp: nikolas x sutton: they’ve quickly bonded over their love for food and fashion. they talk about it all the time like walking lifestyle magazines. whenever they’re both free, nikolas teaches sutton some dishes from his background and she shares with him her favorite filipino recipes.

brotp: blane x sutton: sutton hasn’t made a lot of vegetarian meals so when she invites the gang over to her place, she texts blane beforehand a link to a recipe she found online and asks if it’s something he likes or to let her know if there’s a specific dish he’s craving for and she always tries to make it for him.

general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life — i? adore percy honestly, he’s such an incredible character. i wouldn’t say he’s like… comfort character level, which is why he’s not got the top “mark” ig or whatever idk, but he’s incredible and i have a lot of love for him

worst quality: temper — i know it’s mentioned pre-tartarus that he has a temper, it’s evident throughout the entire series, but i think esp w the events of heroes of olympus that must’ve gotten much worse, like i can imagine him losing his temper so so much and feeling,, awful and guilty over any situations where he did lose his temper?? idk if i’m explaining this right at all however. yes. that boy has a lil bit of a temper and i think that,,, in His opinion he’d probably think it’s his worst quality? like. he’d hate it. and also i’m kinda in love w him and cannot at this moment think of another single thing wrong w him ngl so. yes (also mildly scared of people w bad tempers despite being someone w a bad temper so. yes)

misc. thoughts: well written — i can list a lot of books where the protagonist isn’t my favourite character, or isn’t a character that i connect to a lot or particularly care abt, and percy definitely isn’t one of them. i feel like,,, he’s realistic and human in a way that makes him so special. his inner monologue is so funny and,, tbh i struggle a lot reading books in first person? but?? the first five pjo books r so so so easy to read bc he’s hilarious and. yes. my point is that rick did such a good job w him right up until he called him tragically straight bc percy jackson is bisexual and no one can argue w me abt that??? don’t bother?? he is ok
