Po Yun characters rated by swag

Yan Xie: 0/10 He thinks he's a natural 20, but actually has none. As one of the characters said, "Don't listen to him. He's a dumbass." This is magnified after cohabitation with Jiang Ting, because he becomes a domesticated dumbass who is completely whipped. The narrative goes on about how he's a stereotypical alpha male, but this man can't survive a blind date to save his life. The author very correctly decided criminal investigators have no swag at all and wrote a novel about it. He grows on you like a fungus, but still has zero swag. That said, do not get in a fight with him. He will win.

Jiang Ting: Could have swag. He's intelligent, able to analyze details in moments, and elegant. Then he starts to eat and any swag he might have had evaporates. He was married to his work and highly stressed and traumatized from being a triple agent and it shows. 3/10, though I'm tempted to bump it to four for the way he straight up murders both Yan Xie and Bu Chonghua via text message. Professor Jiang is growing into swag by virtue of finally having free time and accepting his moronsexuality in the second book. That might be generous though considering he's still terrorized by his mother-in-law. I adore him, but his swag will always be low.

Jin Jie: He's a professional assassin and it shows. That said, he's also a professional lackey. 6/10, defeated by the protag plot halo, and it was honestly hilarious how Jiang Ting was constantly throwing him under the bus.

Qin Chuan: *extremely grudgingly* He has swag. That said, I'm 100% with Jiang Ting on this. Do not listen to Yan Xie. He has swag, but he's also a little bitch (no sexual connotation on this phrase btw, that's entirely directed at his personality). 7/10, someone please punch him in the face.

Wen Shao: Now here we have a man with swag. He oozes swag that Yan Xie wishes he had. He has opinions on ballet, plays Lana Del Ray songs on the violin like an emo child, and murders teenagers to recreate an important childhood memory with Jiang Ting. He grew up a drug lord with money and poker card code names, and kisses the bloody knuckles of his Red Queen reverently. 12/10, probably would be 14 if the manhua had been able to continue and we got more of him with long hair.

Han Xiaomei: Our favorite baby intern has absolutely no swag. She's an intern at the criminal investigation unit. She's the lowest on the totem pole, barely showers and sleeps when there's a case just like the rest of the team, and cowers when superiors yell at her. I watched her grow up to a young police woman who could sass back at Yan Xie in the final arc with tears in my eyes. The character growth was incredibly moving. 1/10, because she still has no swag.

Yang Mei: In front of Jiang Ting, she is a meek and breedable. When Jiang Ting isn't looking at her, she's a police informant who runs her own ktv, is perfectly put together and her wardrobe costs more than a cop could make in their career. She has swag. She can and will bitch Yan Xie out, fight like a hell cat, save her love rival's life (only because it was Jiang Ting asking though, otherwise she'd still probably save Yan Xie, but she'd never let him forget it), and turn the love rival into the greatest brotp of the novel. 9/10, because Jiang Ting canonly swears to never take both her and Yan Xie on errands together again. Unfortunately for her, no amount of swag will make the man she's in love with less gay or moronosexual.

Ma Xiang: Good at his job, comfortable in his masculinity. Is willing to be gay for 10 minutes if Yan Xie shares his dinner. No real swag on his own, but he's a fun comedic aside most times. 1/10, because he throws up at gruesome murder scenes and thought a curling iron was a sex toy.

Bu Chonghua: Now here we finally have a main protagonist with swag. Someone had to have swag in the novel, and he pulls it off. As Yan Xie's straight-laced little cousin, he's got a temper and authority to match. He may be a trauma kitten, but he is very good at his job and earned his position. He will literally walk through fire and water to show his devotion to Wu Yu. 6/10, because he's also a menace (absolutely related to Yan Xie, no doubt) and a bit bitchy at times. I love him, your honor.

Wu Yu: here's where the swag gets complicated. As Wu Yu, he is meek and mild mannered, no ambition, and very little confidence. This trauma kitten has no swag. He throws up at the mere taste of meat. He just wants to earn enough money to run away from life and never be bothered again. He loves reading and just wants books. People want to feed him, he looks that pathetic. 0/10 but he gets a point or two when he enters the illegal boxing ring for extra money.

As Painter, his swag jumps to 7/10. He's in prison, he's inflitrating various drug rings, he's the pretty boy, and if you try to take advantage he will cut your arm off with a machete. He has no nickname, just a number. Do not cross him. Jin Jie even calls him ge.

As REDACTED, this trauma kitten will end you. He will fight you with his bare hands and tear you apart. He can only be calmed and turned back into Wu Yu by a person he has marked as 'safe'. If you see him jump from any story higher than one, you're not the one who will survive the encounter. When not in murder form, he pretends to be slow and meek. He's a lackey, and he just wants to live someplace poppies don't grow. Yes, I'm Normal about that. 4/10, please just wrap this trauma kitten up in a blanket and feed him fish and chocolates.

Shark: After my glowing review of the first book's main villain, you would think Shark has swag. He has negative swag, however. He's a crypto bro who wants to drag Painter into life and death situations but won't commit to the homoerotism of it. The fact his web handle is shark and his dark web site is the Mariana trench is an insult to both. He acts cool and edgy but nothing can change the fact he'd be all over nfts if the book was written today. -5/10, he's got absolutely nothing on the King of Spades.

Liao Gang: like, he tries. He's decent at his job, but he's not amazing. Will need Wu Yu to back him up to solve major cases, which stresses Wu Yu out because that means he has to speak up. 1/10

Meng Zheng: This is a woman with brass balls. She's the only female police officer in the unit, is late 30s, early 40s, and is called their police beauty because she's the only one. Also, because she would totally win if you say she looks over thirty and she decides to take you out. 7/10, very valid for wanting to be a honey pot because the police would fund her looking sexy, even if she twists her ankle because she hasn't worn heels since before she was pregnant. She's a milf and will forcibly drag poor interns to her level.

Song Hui: No swag. She's interning because of her crush and is a terrified kitten. She just wants to marry rich and be cute. Meng-jie forces feminism on her. After REDACTED, she grows to 1/10 because she doesn't want to let Meng-jie down. Saves the protags, the entire operation, and sees at the blood on her hands that has already been washed away. Great character development, but currently still no swag. She might get some eventually, because she has potential, which, honestly, is more than Han Xiaomei can say.

Song Ping: He's the older gen cop who you still don't want to mess with. Not related to Bu Chonghua by blood, but you can tell exactly who raised the trauma kitten after his parents were killed. 8/10, though you won't know why until the very end.

Lin Zheng: So weirdly, he probably has swag in his usual work. Considering 90% of the time we see him is with Wu Yu, however, he has none. He thinks Painter killed his friend and all he did was complain to the higher ups about it. 2/10, if he'd been a bit more proactive half of his plot line could have been avoided. Also, Jiang Ting says he has Chuan vibes, which makes me want to punch him in the face on principle. I trust Jiang Ting's judgment.

Cai Lin: Fills the same comedic relief in Tun Hai as Ma Xiang did in Po Yun. We love him, but 1/10, he's terrified of maggots and eats ice cream that's from the forensic department freezer.

And finally, the old and beautiful Zeng Cui Cui: If you couldn't tell by her title, Mother Yan has swag. When she feels threatened by Wu Yu's swag, her response is to bling like no one has blinged before and terrifies him with how much money she spent. Jiang Ting knows better than to argue with her. She bought "A Study of the Legal Aspects of Gay Marriage" after her son turned 30 and still couldn't find a girl willing to marry him. She also locked Bu Chonghua out and essentially kidnapped Wu Yu in the back of her trunk when she thought Wu Yu was being forced into the relationship. 10/10, because she sends her sons-in-laws long underwear and they better wear it in the winter or they will regret it.

5 good qualities: Clever, driven, genuinely cares for his family, fiercely loyal, also just an all around badass in combat

Between just in general watching the show and reading stories of the sith and the jedi like, he's in SO much pain when he screams at Grievous for taking his family from him. And the way he talks to the apparition of Savage about how Savage was basically all he had for the longest time??? He resented his mother for letting Sidious take him, sure, but that didn't stop him from hating Grievous for killing her.

3 bad qualities: brash, never seems to learn from his lessons, blinded by his need for revenge

Gonna go into depth on this one for a second, because he might have lived and maybe even grown an actually really strong criminal empire that would have been worth so much more than his need to kill Kenobi and Sidious. And considering he actually finds peace in Kenobi in his final moments, you know, maybe he could have actually had a hand in defeating Sidious if he'd just fucked off with the Kenobi thing y'know?

favourite episode/etc: Honestly his fight with Ahsoka on Mandalore. This is one instance where the "bad guy" has a fucking point and maybe the good guy should have genuinely teamed up with him. If anything maybe she could have kept him in check. He just wanted to put an end to the war between sith and jedi because it had only ever hurt everyone involved. There was no good and bad, just corrupt one way vs corrupt in another. The idea that Ahsoka even considered it before he mentioned the Anakin thing says enough to me.

who steals french fries off the other’s plate - They both do, however, Averey is better at doing it discreetly. And with her enhanced metabolism, Eddie has a better chance of losing fingers he if were to try.

Plus, Averey isn’t into the fake-dating stuff. One the other hand, they both know how to play the game when in more “high society” circles the Thawnes are usually invited to partake in.

who has to bust or bail the other out of jail - Eddie more often, but they both have been the ones to do it for each other before. Knowing Averey, Eddie is kind of waiting for the call to do it again.

who gives the other advice/comfort about dating issues - Both. Eddie is a black and white kind of person and can tell Averey flat out what she does or doesn’t want to hear. Averey can help Eddie see things from a different perspective.

who shamelessly cheats at games by reaching over to cover the other’s eyes - Averey full stop. She hates losing.

who immediately calls dibs on the top bunk - Averey, only to save Eddie the pain of having to worry about his old joints being able to unfold themselves enough to climb down a ladder and all.

who starts and who wins the pillow fights - No one ever really wins them, but Eddie would start them as a means of getting the point across that she’s being a knuckle head about something. Averey does put up a good fight, though.

General Opinion over said character: Tinkerer (TSSM)

AH, MY #1 SSM BLORBO ♥ okay i will do the entire meme bcs i can't help myself Sexuality Headcanon: Has considered himself gay for a long time; is into men and nonbinary people. Gender Headcanon: I have, like, Two Ways of seeing him that I go back and forth between and nothing else. 1)Trans man, 2)Thought he was a cis man for like 50-some years before somehow realizing that he instinctively wants to answer gender questions with "mad scientist" and he's not really sure what the significance of that is (ie, recently and unofficially exploring demiguy). A ship I have with said character: I mean. I mean. My OTP remains Beck/Mason and that's never gonna change. I've brought up a few other ships I have for him before, but I guess if I'm going to name a rarer one/one I don't note as much also Mason/Menken? (And I am 100% convinced that he'd flirt with Jameson.) A BROTP I have with said character: When I'm not outright shipping Beck/Mason/Chameleon, I super love him having like. A longstanding and very tight friendship with Chameleon. I also think he'd become really good friends with Vulture. ETA: I could also either ship or BROTP Tink with Electro. Pretty much equally. And I have a semi-random headcanon that, with the way Electro seems to like to give nicknames based on others’ aliases (”Doc” and “Vulch”), Electro actually does 100% call him “Tink.” He likes it; he thinks it’s cute. A NOTP I have with said character: Tinkerer/Black Cat, I guess. Also Osborn/Mason but I don't think I've ever seen that. A random headcanon: Oh my god I have so many.

Isn't exactly one of the Sinister Six but is more loyal to them and to Doc Ock than he'd like to let others know just yet.

Absolutely programs failsafes into all of his inventions that could even possibly be used against him or his, because while he's actually kind of a risk-taker he's not stupid.

Kind of an adrenaline junkie and nearly as theatrical as Chameleon and Beck, even if he won't fully admit it.

Used to do theater stuff in high school and college, actually, but 99% as a stagehand.

Loves dancing and knows quite a few ballroom dances.

Was bored out of his mind working for an IT company in his 40s until Chameleon broke in to steal proprietary information while he was there late and he was just immediately all in on helping this strange smooth criminal.

Gets cold very easily and that's why he dresses like that (the yacht job sucked).

Doesn't have a criminal record and wants to avoid having one as long as possible because it allows him to help his companions in more ways...

...and he also knows how to make the law work for him; among other things, he actually legally owns the barbershop, prophouse, and the building that Doc Ock's "lair" was under.

I could keep going because I have so many of these but this is way too long already! General Opinion over said character: As... you may have noticed... I love this guy. Absolutely love. He is one of my favorite characters from this show somehow. A++ deserved more than 7 minutes of screentime.

general opinion: love them

hotness level: gorgeous!

hogwarts house: he'd convince the sorting hat to put him in hufflepuff but he's a slytherin at heart. he's got ambition and he's cunning as hell, take a look at every time anyone tried to throw their weight around with him (from other attorneys to the DA) and he immediately took them down. He's great at playing the game. He's a good hufflepuff--patient, fair, hard-working, all that jazz--but at the end of the day he knows how to work the system better than anyone and he knows how to use that for his ends. Luckily, his ends tend to be helping people, he's a total cowboy for all his talk of/career in working corporate, but his strategy is always cunning.

best quality: I like how he's a total ride or die but not in a way that diminishes his own value/importance? like, he's never gonna abandon matt, matt's his family, but he's also good at recognizing when matt's on some bullshit, like when he tries to pull the "i'm going away forever to protect you" superhero martyr crap. he's never a doormat but he's full of love. he's supportive and helps people but not at cost of his own worth. he's a legitimately strong force in his own right and he helps people so much but he still knows his own value.

worst quality: this isn't necessarily a quality but i kind of hated how they handled the matt-is-daredevil reveal? like, i get the betrayal part, i absolutely do and I like that they handled it, i just didn't like the parts specifically they focused on? like, the whole is-matt-really-blind bit, that should have been like, hardly a footnote in the discussion. grab a penlight and check. you live in a world with the hulk. it just seemed like there was a weirdly large insistence on matt actually being able to see when like. no. he can't. and there was this weird line where he said that for matt to keep training the way he did, he would have had to have known he was going to do this one day? but like, people train in martial arts every single day without the plan of fighting crime. like, i would have loved it way more if they focused more on the systemic lying over his injuries or for the fact that matt went into business with him and let foggy alter the course of his life without mentioning, oh yeah, i'm doing a deeply criminal act every single night. like, it just hit weird points in the conversation that always just stuck with me as off.

brotp them with: also matt, avocados at law forever, but also karen. they have a fantastic buddy cop dynamic.

needs to stay away from: corporate life in general. i absolutely love the fact that he's a god of an attorney who can navigate the system like no other, but i like him way better as an advocate for the little guy than his stint in big law. i'm glad they shut down nelson & murdock in season 2, like, that was an excellent arc, but sending him into corporate life after sort of gave the impression that his decision to go into public defense was only because of his partnership with matt? like, granted, foggy wanted bagels and mourned the loss of them when they decided to not take landman & zach's offer, but he legitimately cared about all of his clients and has a very solid moral compass. he would have never made it at landman & zach's even if he had taken the original offer because it was like, corruption central and he is a good man. he would have quit a few weeks in and given them the middle finger salute on the way out the door. it was just a little bit of an off pick for me to have matt still be representing the little guy after the dissolution of nelson & murdock but to have foggy go into big law. at the end of the day, foggy cared about justice every bit as much as matt and that was a huge part about how he practiced.

misc. thoughts: love him love him love him. he's like, a legitmately good and very grounded character trapped in a workspace with two chaotic goods. he just wants to be a good and just lawyer and maybe have a nice bagel but matt wants to fight the entire organized crime structure with his bare fists and karen cannot be left unsupervised or she's off openly investigating people who can and will murder her. he's an extremely well executed lawful good sighing deeply as his chaotic good business partner fights you in a fucking halloween costume and his other chaotic good business partner calls you a little bitch while you're actively threatening to murder her. someone buy the man a bagel.

Hoo boy! I feel like I should make like one of my mutuals and construct some kind of shipping map because there’s a whole range of ones that I like/have sought out/have written/would read, at varying levels. I mean, I did make one, kind of, but it’s not terribly legible.

Platonic/familial/nonsexual: (however you wanna name that) 

Obviously the big one is Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian, I mean, I haven’t been subtle about that - and the whole trio of Yunmeng siblings in all their disastrous glory. But also Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling, and Jin Ling and Wei Wuxian. I’m also so curious about more of both Jin Ling and Jin Guangyao and Jin Guangyao and Jiang Cheng.

But also Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji. And also all of the junior quartet but in some ways especially Jin Ling and Lan Sizhui having a relationship? Jin Ling and everyone, kind of. I don’t really have Jin Ling ships but I want to know everything about his relationships with people. 

The entire Wen-Lan-Jiang-Wei network of inlaws and adopted siblings and nephews and uncles, honestly. The unrealized Lan Wangji-Jin Zixuan-Jiang Cheng-Wei Wuxian brother-in-law quadrangle. 

Xue Yang and a-Qing’s weird as hell relationship is delightful to me and I’m very about it.

Rarepairs:

Since just last night I was talking about it, the dearth of Xue Yang/Wei Wuxian in this fandom is criminal. And more Xue Yang/Jin Guangyao also! There are 61 fics for them in English which is respectable but not enough. 

Also there should really be more horrible bad idea Jiang Cheng/Lan Wangji, particularly during the timeskip. There’s some of it! But there should be more. 

Apparently now I’m personally writing a Wen Qing/Xue Yang fic, so, you know. I guess if that counts for something.

I feel like as usual mostly I just want to see platonic or nonsexual relationships between characters developed more.

OT3s:

I mean the obvious one is 3zun which I am more of a XiYao feller than anything else bout also all the...delicious, horrible angsty messiness of 3zun is immensely appealing to me. My actual biggest ship in this fandom is probably the terrible threesome of Song Lan/Xiao Xingchen/Xue Yang, which is just an objectively wonderful proposition. 

But also there’s the terrible threesome of Lan Xichen/Jin Guangyao/Nie Huaisang which I haven’t read anything for (yet) but boy!!!! Nice!!!!!!!

I feel like I’m probably forgetting things too. Or, like. There’s things I haven’t thought of yet but that if people threw them at me I’d totally read.

a veronica mars leverage au, i guess, because what else should i be doing with my life?

So I was thinking about the mechanics of a veronica mars leverage au—as in, veronica mars characters in a leverage like set-up, because the leverage setup is the golden standard™ of like, the known universe.

you have veronica mars, mastermind; the rest of the crew being made up of wallace, mac, logan, and weevil.  and mac is obviously the hacker.

but I also think that, in this au, the roles won’t be so clear cut.  the problem is that in veronica mars, all of these characters (except mac, who is an archetype) display different skills from each of the five defined roles in the leverage universe: hitter, hacker, grifter, thief, mastermind. 

veronica is a mastermind, sure, but she also makes killer fake IDs and breaks into systems like hardison does and is a hell of a grifter.

weevil can throw down, and lift things like a thief, and even pull one over on someone in a grifter-like fashion. and as head of the PCHers he has some definitive mastermind tendencies; he knows how to plan a fight, and a con.

wallace is more of a solid dude than a member of the criminal element, but when veronica needs him, he’s played roles like a grifter and pulled off lifts like a thief.

logan has a talent for violence, but also can lie like he breathes and put on shows to convince the best of them.

really i guess they all just have a little grifter in them.

if I had to had to had to give them all definitive leverage archetypes, though, it would be veronica: mastermind, logan: hitter, Weevil: thief, wallace: grifter, and of course, mac: hacker.

veronica is the mastermind because she knows all of them best, knows what they can do; because she’s capable of putting all the moving pieces together into one perfect plan; but also because she’s a control freak with maaaajior trust issues.  there’s no way she could ever let anyone else be in charge.

logan is the hitter because he’s just got that underlying current of violence about him at all times, but also because my absolute favortie scenes of his are when he’s being protective of veronica.  not that end of season three bullshit, mind you, but like the scene in season one when he rescues her from the federal agent, or the scene in season two when he bluffs his way into and out of the irish mob’s territory with an unloaded gun to save veronica.  make him the hitter and we get breathtaking violence from him, sure.  but we also get to see logan at his best: giving a damn about the well-being of others. 

weevil is the thief because this guy is smooth.  he pulled the heist at the carnival brilliantly in s2; and he stole that pen from the Kane household in s1 successfully even though the police arrested him and catalogued everything on his person, including the pen. it’s a bit of a square peg in a round hole, but I feel like he;d have comfortable knowledge of security systems and guard rotations and police jurisdictions.

wallace is the grifter because i’ve noticed that a lot of the times he asks veronica for advice on how to do stuff, its grift-related.  “how do I seduce the fake head cheerleader?” for example.  and he pulls some short term grifts for her, like when he infiltrates the silicon mafia at SD State.  also he’s got the best innate knowledge of who people are and what they’re like.  yeah, veronica can pull people apart, but Wallace is just good with them in a way she isn’t.  and also he’s got the most emotional maturity out of any of these basket cases.

mac is the hacker because she’s god’s gift to computers, duh.

what I really want, though; what any good leverage AU is an excuse to do, is to make a found family out of these losers.  imagine if these five people all...trusted and loved each other, in addition to liking one another??  i’m drooling just thinking about it.

I also think that, ironically enough, being righteous criminals in constant close contact would work wonders for veronica and logan’s relationship, lbr.  if veronica is mastermind-ing their cons, she doesn’t have to wonder what logan—or any of her other friends, for that matter—are doing, and go a little crazy to find out.  it’s an outlet for her control-freak-trust-issues.

aaaand if logan is their hitter/muscle, it’s literally his job to protect everyone, including veronica.  violently, if necessary. 

plus, they can both work out their paranoia on things that aren’t each other—cause it’s not paranoia if they’re really out to get you.

the best episodes always involved Veronica pulling her friends into cons with her; VM the show is already only a hop-skip-and-a-jump away from leverage, anyway!  solving mysteries, sure, but also getting revenge, retrieving items, getting even...providing leverage.

like, seriously.

Veronica and Wallace effortlessly pulling a grift out of their asses when they’re caught in a sticky situation, using that emotional drift comparability in their brOTP.

Mac, getting the respect and cash she deserves for finding information and recovering hard drives and also, giving her righteous side some room to move.

Logan and Weevil sniping at each other, maybe having not-so-faux fights as distractions or part of a con— but having each other’s backs.  playing partners in macho stoicism even though we all know they’re softies sometimes.

Wallace and Mac, standing to the side as exasperated captains of the maturity and stability team while Logan and Veronica share a dumpster fire.

Veronica and Weevil doing that thing, you know, where they’re kind of flirting and kind of pulling one over on their audience and pulling each other out of messes.

Wallace, prince among men, getting to play the handsome and charming credit to his gender he is.  imagine, if you will, him pulling honey-trap cons on marks like sophie deveraux did.  i am and it’s delightful.

the worst part about canon!VM is how much they all (veronica.  largely veronica) tore one another down; betrayed people; didn’t trust them; hurt them; expected the worst and got it in self-fulfilling bullshit.  imagine if all of that went away and then write it for me pleeeaaaseee

i’ve been brainstorming and like, there’s two paths you could go.  one is a complete graft to the leverage fusion, in which they never actually went to high school together but instead are professional criminals who all grew into their own on their own and came together.  in this path, we’d come in on our anti-heroes already in the thick of it—or at least, having deep histories together that allow them to trust one another right away.

the other is like, veronica falls to the “dark side” in high school and drags them all with her, handing out black hats as she goes. perhaps in a world where Aaron Echolls gets acquitted and Duncan Kane does not have an assassin at the ready to avenge his sister outside the law, where Veronica literally can’t sleep at the thought of him out there.  a world where Logan and Weevil have that same insomnia, and Mac and Wallace care about Veronica enough to help. 

and maybe it starts out as just a way to get new evidence so a judge can declare a retrial and get Aaron convicted; but ohhh, Aaron Echolls is not a man who can leave well enough alone.  He’s a rich, powerful, attention seeking mother fucker who likes to taunt logan and veronica about what he did to lily.  so even though it’s not Duncan paying for him to get assassinated, the end result is the same: Aaron dead as a doornail, like he deserves.

Maybe it’s a fake suicide, like Veronica planned out for her criminology course, the literal perfect crime.  Maybe he gets murdered and dumped on Lamb’s doorstep with an audio recording of him confessing—edited by Mac, of course, to make sure Veronica and Logan’s parts in the charade weren’t included.

also i’d like to think that, in this world where they wear black hats to better play white knights, Veronica and Logan have just...the best-worst reputation.  Yeah, they melt around each other, but ho-ly shit they’re still lethal—especially if you put one in danger.   Maybe Logan’s got a reputation as an attack dog, and maybe Veronica’s got a reputation as holding his leash, and maybe they’ve proven they’re willing to do anything to keep each other safe.  Maybe, they made a deal, a long time ago when they started out: Veronica gets to get into anything she wants, whatever crusade is currently pushing her buttons, as long as she brings Logan along to protect her. 

their story is epic, after all.

anyway! In Conclusion, tl;dr, someone please stop me from having veronica mars feelings, and if leverage could please stop being the best found family ever, that would probably help.

A BROTP I have with said character: him and gumshoe are a hilarious duo. him and franziska (as said earlier) break my heart a little but i enjoy their “we are emotionally stunted but My God Are We Trying To Be Good To Each Other.” i also like him and maya hanging out and talking about steel samurai and being siblings-in-law to each other. OH AND not be myself but i like seeing him and klavier interact... i really like fics that mention that when edgeworth becomes chief prosecutor and dedicates himself to rooting out corruption in the office, he makes klavier his chief deputy because he really trusts him :) there’s some rockiness at first because of phoenix’s disbarment but he gets over it (he too was once a young man made to ruin others by duplicitous family, after all).

A NOTP I have with said character: literally anything involving a woman, especially franziska. adopting siblings are still siblings, folks!!!!!

A random headcanon: i think he’s autistic. he likes steel samurai because he likes easy ideas of justice and criminals being punished (especially once his real life perception of that starts getting muddied and changed), and also because when he moved to the von karma estate any childhood frivolities were taken from his life. so the steel samurai is some self-indulgent fun.

General Opinion over said character: i like him! i like that he’s a gay dude with brain problems. although i’m annoyed at how franziska was shoved aside in 2-4, i did like his interaction with phoenix there - now edgeworth is the one trying desperately to work with phoenix and is the one pursuing truth and justice. i love that whole case. ANYWAY i love him and i can’t wait for him to be a big damn hero in the finale of aa3! just... have to get through bratworth calling mia a bimbo first.......... sigh

Stepping through the curved halls of S.T.A.R. Labs, Averey glared at Eddie’s back as she went. All the anger and frustration that fell of him in waves, was absorbed by her body. The second Barry had whisked the attacking meta off to the Pipeline, and she had gone to debrief with Joe and Eddie, she could feel that something was off with him.

“What’s your probl–”

“YOU! YOU ARE MY PROBLEM!”

Despite her eyes being covered by her S.T.A.R. Labs created device stopping Eddie from seeing her recoil, she still squeezed her eyes shut at the sudden shout from him. His words even echoed slightly against the high ceiling.

“Right. What exactly has your knickers in a twist?” Averey asked, removing the device from her face. She blinked repeatedly against the bright lights in S.T.A.R. Labs.

“We had a plan,” Eddie said, barely looking at Barry as he shuffled into the room.

Barry looked back and forth between the two of them, his eyebrows pulling towards each other in confusion as he pulled his cowl from his head. Running his gloved hand over the hair that stood up in every direction, he looked over at Caitlin and Cisco for help. Caitlin pulled the corners of her lips downwards as she shrugged. Cisco merely spun his swivel chair towards Barry, looking partially curious and partially excited about the drama.

“Even you should know that all plans don’t always go off without a hitch,” Averey replied, hanging her eye shield around her neck. She pulled her gloves off her hands and tucked them under her arm, pinning them to her ribcage with her elbow. “So, Barry and I adapted to everything. So what?”

“Guys,” Barry said, lifting a finger into the air. “Everything’s ok. I think the more important thing is that everyone’s safe, and the meta is in the pipeline.”

“Shut up, Barry,” Eddie said at the same time Averey said, “Shut up, B.”

Barry clenched his teeth together, pulling his lips downwards in the corners. “Ok,” he said quietly, backing up a few steps.

“I’m glad you and Barry are ok,” Eddie said, suddenly sounding tired, “but Singh, Joe, and I really had to scramble to get our officers in line to back you up.”

“Ok, so, sorry we didn’t tell you in advance that the meta was going to throw a wrench in everything,” Averey said sarcastically. She reached up with one hand for the elastic band in her hair and started pulling at it, grimacing when it got stuck in the tangles of her sweaty stringy hair she had up in a messy bun. Huffing in frustration, she left it. “I’ll be sure to have Barry run into the future and check it out so I can let you know ahead of time.

For a moment, it looked like Eddie was going to start laughing. He cleared his throat and shook his head, all traces of amusement gone within seconds.

“And why are you even mad at me? Barry was out there, too.”

“Believe me, it’s both of you I have a problem with.”

Barry’s eyes widened in bewilderment. “What?” he asked, looking back and forth between Averey and Eddie and Caitlin and Cisco. “Ok, um, hey, guys.” He pressed the palms of his hands together, taking small steps towards his friends. “Let’s just all calm down. Get some fresh air, and then we can come back to this – we can get changed, showered, and all of that.”

“Cisco and I will go check to see what kind of food the meta likes to eat, explain to him what’s going to happen, that kind of thing,” Caitlin said, practically hauling Cisco out of his chair and marching him out of the Cortex.

“I’ll go let Joe know everything is secure here,” Barry said, taking slow steps out of the Cortex. Upon visual confirmation that his two friends weren’t going to kill each other the second he turned his back; he too left the room.

“You’re not disposable, you know,” Averey said, pressing down on the heel of her left boot with the toes of her right. She carefully pulled her foot out of the tight boot and placed it on the floor, sighing in content when her foot was pressed flat against the cool tile. She quickly did the same for her other boot before carrying them over to the alcove that housed the Flash and Visionary mannequins. “We do need help from the police every time we’re out there, mate.”

“I know.”

“But it still bothers you,” Averey said, dropping her gloves and boots to the floor. Facing him, she reached out a hand and pushed the Flash mannequin to the side, where it swung around its track. “The Flash is taking over what the police are supposed to do? The Flash saves the day and the police didn’t?”

“That’s not it,” Eddie protested.

“That’s the problem you had with the Flash in the first place if I remember correctly,” Averey pointed out to him. “Which I do, by the way.”

Eddie laughed through his nose. “It’s just not what we’ve been trained for,” he said after a moment of silence. “Not really. I mean, I know every time Joe and I go out there, Joe has my back, and I have his, and we’re all trying to make it back to our homes in one piece. But, no one said anything about standing back and watching people with incredible abilities

“It’s not easy for us, either,” Averey said, carefully placing her gloves and boots on one of the shelves in the alcove. She reached for the zipper of her suit and pulled it down to her waist, freeing her arms from the tight material, goosebumps dotted her arms when the cool air hit her body, chilling her sweat soaked tank top. She twisted her arm to inspect a bruise forming on her tricep. “The police are usually one of the first to encounter the metas. And they’re the first to get hurt.”

“I know,” Eddie replied. A haunted look briefly crossed his face and Averey frowned. He was front and center when the Reverse-Flash had slaughtered the brave men who had joined the first iteration of his Meta-Human Task Force. “I just hate standing by and doing nothing.”

“You’re not doing nothing,” Averey said, starting on her hair again. She winced, squeezing an eye shut as she worked her hair band out of her hair. “You’re giving B and I more support than you know.” She sighed when she finally freed the band, sliding it over her wrist. “And we do appreciate it. Even if we can’t, or don’t, really tell you blokes that. Besides, you lot do more than Barry and I do every day. We just handle the big stuff. And we’re able to only focus on that because of the police.”

Eddie allowed a smile to grace his lips.

Do you love/hate this character?I think he’s an admirable character and although he can be strict and uneasy to work with, he adopts that approach because he’s looking out for others and for people who can’t protect themselves. His diligence stems from a need to uphold the Agency’s image, to be a figure of lawful good and justice to those who’ve been wronged or hurt, and partially because it’s his moral code. Kunikida’s ideals and morality have chiseled him to become this hard-boiled, often harsh individual because he knows if there aren’t set procedures or guidelines, he wouldn’t be able to save the people that are looking to him for help.

I wouldn’t call Kunikida a humanitarian or philanthropist, but he does have some shades of it in that he’s fighting for the justice of people who’re often ignored in the legal system, like children for instance. Even so, we do see a reflection of his flaws. Often times, people who’re concerned for the welfare of others fail to notice or help those closest to them. We could see that during the first season when Atsushi was kidnapped and Kunikida almost considered abandoning him because he thought of the Agency’s image first. As an OG member, this organization holds a dear place in Kunikida’s heart and although we don’t know why, we can speculate. His practicality and pragmatic idealism can be difficult at times, even abrasive in circumstances that fall into gray morality, his value for human life and for saving others grants him some permission to bend his own rules to do what’s needed instead of what’s right. That’s what makes him a memorable character to me.

He has a strict code, but even he knows or is reminded that the rules can be bent. Bungou Stray Dogs is a gray-on-gray morality show and it’s very interesting to watch a character who has an intense set of rules navigate through that world.

What’s your favorite trait of this character?When Dazai isn’t pissing him off into the next planet, I admire Kunikida’s careful and systematic approach in handling things. He’s like a mini-bureaucracy in one person. Protocols for this, procedures for that, guidelines to do this-this, and steps in how to handle and interact with something or with someone. I have a similar approach in how I navigate through life. I do informal scheduling every day so I know what’s my objective and mini-goals, I like having a plan before I do something because then I feel prepared, and having a protocol gives me the etiquette and social cues that I should be aware of when I want to do something. As an autistic individual, that approach gives structure for my life and allows me to be prepared and acclimated to a lot of things.

What’s your favorite moment/event involving this character?All of Kunikida’s battle scenes are amazing. I love the Azure Messenger arc (the light novel version). A scene I liked in the anime adaptation was when Kunikida fought Akutagawa. That scene was gorgeous and masterfully done. Another scene fight scene I liked was during Dead Apple when Kunikida reveals this huge panel of firearms to protect himself with when the dragon mist engulfed Yokohama. That was classic.

If you could have one power/attribute/etc. of this character, what would it be?I would love the ability to carry a notebook and whatever I write it in, the object becomes true. That’s the most practical, everyday useful ability. It’s so innocuous that it can be used for either good or evil. Kunikida could be a really good dealer in the criminal underground if he had chosen to go that route. He has the capability of financing and supplying a criminal organization, as well as destroying a country’s economy by devaluing its currency and flooding it with fake money. Peep, Kunikida would be up there as an international criminal. He wouldn’t kill people because he doesn’t need to. He could destroy lives in other ways if he wanted because he has the notebook to do it.

Anyway, that’s why I would want the notebook. You have a choice of what you want to do with the power and that’s both terrifying and thrilling.

When did you fall in love/hate with this character?I love characters that wear glasses, so I fell hard in episode 1. You can look at this entire response and see how every question has a thorough answer, and know just how much love is coming from me right now.

Who’s your OTP for this character?I BROTP Kunikida with Oda. If you look at their composite characteristics, they’re very similar to each other. They’re both idealists in their own way and value not taking another’s life. However, Kunikida walks with a badge of justice in his heart while Oda straddles the line of moral ambiguity and atones for his past actions by helping others. Oda is more realistic than Kunikida so he gently nudges with the reins and pulls Kunikida in when he’s leaning too far into one direction. Kunikida has his strict code and can steady Oda when the latter is lost in thought and isn’t sure what his next move should be. As work partners and friends, they balance each other’s tendencies. They would be good, honest friends if they met.

Kunikida would understandably be cautious given Oda’s background, but he’d come around and see that Oda’s very different from who he would normally associate with the Port Mafia.
