if you're living in the western half of the u.s. and worried about forest fires, i cannot recommend the app "watch duty" enough. it's up to date with its fire tracking, sends alerts about evac notices, and even told me about a community meeting re: an encroaching fire that idk i would have heard of otherwise

If i get confirmation these fires were caused by goddammed fireworks, I'm going to be so mad.

Every time a neighbor uses fireworks, i try to give them leeway, because they're new and don't know about the wall of flames that came for our houses a few Christmases ago. Or maybe they don't know the area's history with regular brushfures.

But in reality, I'm just so mad at this stupid, unnecessary need to celebrate with fireworks. It's too dangerous! We live in brush, with semi desert conditions! Droughts that last more than half-decades at a time! We have a yearly "brushfire season" that takes up more of each calendar year, for some years.

Your need to play with fireworks on the 4th of July and New Year's is stupid. Literally the dumbest thing to do in our geography. And 10 minutes away, we have a public dam with a professional fireworks show, and professional safety regulations, at every holiday associated with fireworks. Why the hell are individuals playing with fireworks in our area?!

I swear, all non-pro fireworks should all just get banned.

Massive Brushfires Rage Near Jerusalem...

Large brushfires were blazing Wednesday in the Eshtaol Forest on the outskirts of Jerusalem, forcing the evacuations of some communities and the closure of roads.

It was the second time in the space of a week that fires in the hills to the west of the capital have led to the evacuation of residents.

The Fire and Rescue Service reported fires were raging in at least five places in the Jerusalem hills.

The fire came amid a heatwave and strong winds that made it difficult to bring the blaze under control.
