What are your thoughts on the part in The Day I Picked Up Dazai side b where Dazai just attacks the police officer.

I feel like it's the only time we see Dazai acting purely on raw rage and hatred without any grand plan or long term goal.

Gosh I love that part so much. Dazai goes feral real. One of my favourite moments of his actually. Didn't he tackle him then try to bite the guy's ear off? I haven't read it in awhile so I'm a bit hazy on the details, sorry.

Tbh, I actually wonder if it wasn't such a raw display of brutality for the purpose of driving Odasaku away from the Port Mafia. Dazai tried to make them appear as cruel as possible in Side B so Odasaku wouldn't join, and I suspect he intended for this to shock him as a first step. From what I recall, he was definitely startled, and Odasaku does not startle easily.

But then again, I like the idea that Dazai just kind of... lost it there. Went absolutely feral with rage against that police officer... in defense of Odasaku... :'(
