Catalyst Chapter 8: In Chains

Summary:  You were the catalyst, the start of it all. They would have found each other eventually but you brought them together sooner, faster than expected. Then you vanished from their lives and they were determined to get you back.

A/N: I’m sorry this took so long. I have finally managed to get myself to update despite all my busyness, and I’m going to try to stay on top of it more. Things should be getting more interesting soon!

Drastic times call for drastic measures. At least that was how the saying went. As much as you wanted to say that was true for your situation at this current point in time, it wasn’t. Everything around you seemed to move at double speed while you sat frozen on a somewhat stiff couch in the middle of this grand living room. 

Everyone.. All of the leaders seemed to be in their own space, rushing here to there trying to get.. Whatever it was set up. Probably getting the necessary arrangements made so they could stay within this safe house for the next.. Certain amount of time. You weren’t sure how long it would be. 

After the door closed, after you made your way to the center of the room, no one seemed to bother you, caught up in their own duties. A certain question coming back to your mind. Where did you fit in all of this? Where was your place? They claimed they wanted you safe, they didn’t want to lose you, but you have never felt more alone in your life. Just to think just how hours earlier you were happy to be reunited with your boys, thinking everything was going to go well, and now it was all falling apart once again.. You didn’t have a safety net to go back to this time. Mason wouldn’t help you out of this, even if he might want to. It was too much of a risk, and you certainly didn’t want him to take it. Not to risk everything he built.

You remained in your spot, watching as some of the others started to disappear.. Did they hate you? Did they blame you for what happened? Would they come to ignore you despite how excited they were just to see you just hours ago?

The questions echoed in your mind as you continued to sit there. It seemed that you were the only one left now in this main area. Slowly you turned your head, eyes taking in the area around you. Finally seeing it for the first time as you managed to escape your thoughts. You should make the best of it right? Despite the darkness that seemed to be creeping into your mind.

The house was silent. You stood slowly, turning to a nearby window. You weren’t exactly sure what time it was, you never really bothered to check in the time everything happened. It seemed to be late at night.. Maybe the sun would start to rise soon. It was only a matter of time. 

That raised another question for you, how long had it been since you last slept? You don’t remember getting much sleep after Hoseok found you the other day in his injured state.. Certainly the whole excitement of seeing Yoongi and going to see the rest of BTS didn’t help either. 

Man oh man.. You certainly needed sleep, but it wasn’t exactly something you felt like you could do right now. Your nerves were alight with anxiety after everything that happened, with your current situation, and the unanswered questions that lingered in your mind. 

You were torn from your thoughts once again as you heard the soft pad of feet against the floor. You turned to meet whoever had come back down to do whatever it was only to find a pair of eyes looking right back at you. 

“Yoongi..” You said softly. Eyes taking in his face. It seemed he had come back down for you. 

“Are you alright?” The words were quiet as they escaped his mouth, but any noise at the moment seemed to be rather loud compared to the still room the two of you were in. 

At his question you turned your eyes away from his, basically giving him the answer he was looking for despite anything you might say afterwards. “I’m getting there.” You said softly, crossing your arms over your chest and holding them close to the center of your body. 

“A lot has happened today and it’s going to take some time to get used to everything again…” You explained, figuring there was no point in lying to him. He was one of the few that understood without having to be told. He just knew how to read you well. 

You let out a sigh. “I never imagined that this would be happening when I decided to go back with you.”

Yoongi stepped closer, stopping just short of you, leaving a little space in between. “I never imagined this would happen either.” He said, his soft voice easing some of the tension in your body. 

“If I had known, I wouldn’t have put you through this honestly.” He told you knowing it was partly his fault that you had ended up in this situation. 

You shook your head. “No. I can’t blame you for presenting the choice that you did. You are loyal to your brothers, and I never want to come in between that.” You dropped one of your arms, still keeping one wrapped around you. “There was plenty I could have done that would have also prevented this situation yet here we are.” A small sigh escaped your lips. “Might as well deal with it.” 

There wasn’t much to be done in your situation. Even if it scared you to no end to be in the situation you were in right now, you would just have to deal with it even if you didn’t want to. 

“Hey..” You felt one of his calloused hands gripped the arm you had dropped a moment prior, bringing your attention back up to the man’s face. “Come on, lets go up to my room and get you some rest.” Yoongi suggested with a slight tilt of his head. 

“Your room?” Was that okay? You would really be invading their space at that point.

The man nodded. “Yeah, unless you want to stay on the couch, you would have to stay with one of us. We don’t exactly have a lot of room in this safe house.”

You looked at him rather blankly. “It’s fine, I have to stay up and get some work done anyway, so you will have it all to yourself.” He said with a shrug of his shoulders. 

“I..” You started with a sigh, unsure if you should do so or not, but having him nearby might be helpful to you.. Or at least his presence might lessen some of your anxiety. “Okay. Fine, lead the way.”

Yoongi gave you a soft smile before turning away and leading you down the hall and up a set of stairs, never once letting go of your hand. Not until you reached his room anyway. 

As soon as you stepped inside the dimly lit room, his hand fell away from yours, leaving you feeling somewhat uneasy and wishing for his hand back. Something to ground you. He moved away into the side of the room where a desk sat, with a computer on it. As he moved away from you, words escaped his mouth. “Go ahead and make yourself comfortable, sorry there isn’t much in here.”

He was right, there wasn’t really much in the room. It honestly looked like a room akin to a hotel room, but there were some personal touches here and there, but other than that it was very clear this place wasn’t used much. At least to live in, someone had clearly kept the place spotless. 

That did bring up the question of how many people knew about this place other than the boys. Was it just one cleaner? Or was it multiple? 

“Stop getting lost in that head of yours and settle down.” The voice called from the otherside of the room. You looked up to see Yoongi staring you down from his desk with various papers scattered on it. 

You flinched slightly, not realizing you had been staring at the bed with blank eyes. A dead give away that you were lost in your thoughts. 

He had pushed away from his desk, approaching you once again but keeping a distance this time. “Do you need anything? Just something to help you relax?” He eyed you for a second before turning away. “Wait one second.” He went to the dresser that was in the room pulling out some clothes before coming back over and handing them to you. 

“These should be a lot more comfortable than what you currently have on. A lot cleaner too. Bathroom is right over there.” You followed where his finger pointed, finally noticing the door at the opposite end of the room. 

You looked down at your clothes realizing that your clothes had been singed by the fire, and had some blood droplets here and there.. Wasn’t really a good idea to be wearing them anymore.. And you hadn’t really changed since that encounter with Yoongi in the first place. 

Gaze turned upwards once again, you gave Yoongi a small smile before thanking him softly. He returned your gesture with a nod before returning to his work once again.

You stepped into the bathroom, quick to discard your clothes. Grimacing at the sticky feeling on your body. It never really crossed your mind how dirty you felt until now. He wouldn’t mind if you took a quick shower right? You glanced back at the closed door before making your way over to the shower. 

It took a moment to figure out how to turn it on, but as soon as you stepped inside, the warm water felt wonderful against your skin. Not to mention it did wonders to help you relax. You only took a few minutes at most, making sure you scrubbed off all the dirt and grime from your skin. 

Once you stepped out of the bathroom, the clothes he leant you hung loosely on your body, engulfing your frame. As you looked up Yoongi was fully engrossed in his work again, headphones resting snuggly on his head. 

With a sigh you crawled into the bed, letting the plush surface hug your body, allowing you to relax due to the comfort the mattress brought you. Despite being a place that wasn’t really lived in, they still had the best stuff here. 

It didn’t take long for everything to catch up with you.. You truly were exhausted. You must have been running on the last of your energy, and adrenaline this whole time. It wasn’t long before your eyes grew heavy, and you succumbed to the call of sleep.

“Hey.. Hey!” You blinked your eyes open, what you thought would be the blue sky greeting you was instead a face. A familiar face of Yoongi leaning over into your vision. 

“This isn’t a good place to sleep. Joon wouldn’t appreciate it if he found out.” The man grumbled before withdrawing from your vision. 

Right. You had fallen asleep appreciating the warm weather on the roof of Namjoon’s workplace. Even though you hadn’t intended to, you just hadn’t been getting a lot of sleep lately. So it was very easy to fall asleep with each quiet moment you got. 

You ran your fingers through your hair still trying to collect your thoughts, trying to get your brain to wake up fully. “Sorry Yoongs.. Just haven’t been sleeping well lately.”

You heard a hum escape the male beside you as he processed your words. “It would be better to take a nap in Namjoon’s office. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind.”

You shook your head. “I couldn’t do that to him.. He has too much to do, besides he probably has meetings as well.”

As you looked over to your companion, you saw that he was frowning. “Fine, then you can come stay in my office. No one bothers me there anyway, so you have the chance to catch up on some rest.”

You blinked at his offer. Yoongi didn’t really like having anyone in his space.. To have him invite you there was.. Something to say the least. Maybe he was finally getting used to having you around more often. Seeing how you were always at his workplace for some reason or another, so much so he always asked why you never got a job working for Namjoon like he did. You never truly answered him. Just smiled and shook your head. 

“Min Yoongi? Allowing me into his office? I’m shocked.” You playfully jabbed at him, a tired smile on your features. 

The man huffed. “Just come on before I change my mind.” He was quick to stand up and start heading for the stairs. 

Quickly you scrambled after him, not wanting to get left behind or locked out of his office. He did in fact have a wonderfully comfy couch, or so you heard from Hobi. You couldn’t wait to try a nap on it for yourself. “Alright! I’m coming, I’m coming.” You told him as you did your best to catch up with him. “Just don’t tell Joon alright?”

He grinned as he held the door open for you. “Have you told Joon any of the things I have done?”

You shook your head. 

“Then I won’t tell him.”

You couldn’t tell what time it was when you woke up. The room was completely dark, Yoongi no longer working away at his desk at the side of the room. As you sat up, the covers slide off your body, causing you to shiver slightly from the cold air of the room. Your eyes searching the dark room for the familiar figure but saw nothing.. It seemed he was no longer here. With a sigh you swung your legs over the side of the bed, standing up quickly. You really could go for some coffee right now.. Certainly they would have a coffee machine in here right?

With a yawn, you made your way out of the room and down the stairs trying to make your way to the kitchen. You were sure you remembered it being just next to the living room you were in before. It shouldn’t be that hard to find.. Right?

You carefully padded across the rooms, trying to make sure to be quiet so as to not potentially wake anyone up because you didn’t know if anyone was awake yet or not, but as you approached the kitchen it was clear someone was awake.. Or rather two people. 

You paused to listen in to the voices, trying to figure out who was habiting the kitchen at this current point in time. You were about to continue forward once you heard that it was Hobi and Joon, but paused once again when you heard how harsh their voices sounded. 

“What’s next Namjoon? Did you even think that through?”

“Of course I know what is next, we have to stay here for a while before we can even think about heading back to that area.”

You heard a sigh escape Hoseok. “I know that but what about after? What about Y/N? We can’t keep her with us forever. She has a life to tend to. Something outside of us, she always has even before she disappeared.

“It’s not that simple. She holds the answers we need, especially with this whole attack that seemed to come from the inside.”

“Holding her hostage isn’t the answer Namjoon.”

“Well it's the best option we have right now. Do you have any other answers, right now at the top of your head?”

The following silence unsettled you.. Did they truly not know what to do with you? Were you really just some hostage at this point? 

“That's what I thought. If you need me I will be in my office. Tell Jimin to come speak with me at some point today. I know we all have a lot of stuff we need to get arranged with the business.” You heard some footsteps fading away in the distance, followed by the slam of a door. 

You stayed rooted in your spot, eyes downcast to the floor as your mind raced again. Your anxiety was spiking.. What were they going to do with you? Did they actually care..? Did Namjoon?

“Oh Muffin… Did you hear all of that?”

The voice startled you, causing you to look up with worry, wide eyes meeting sad ones. It was clear he saw all he needed to know on your expression. Quickly he wrapped his arms around you pulling you in close. 

“I’m sorry you had to hear that.. And I’m sorry we don’t have a better solution yet.. But I will figure it out okay?”

You couldn’t speak any words at this point in time, so you just nodded into his shoulder. 

“Hey.. Let’s go find Yoongi, yeah? I’m sure he is missing you already.” He released you from the hug, keeping one arm wrapped around your shoulder, as he guided you away from the kitchen. The coffee was completely forgotten about.

I didn’t even attempt to untangle all the small entries that’s about 1-0% in the grand scheme of things. It’s the fics that were done before this month but needed to be edited before posting. I had given myself the goal of 2k a day because I knew I needed write a lot to complete PEDIA but I also needed to spend a lot of time editing, but I still went past the goal and almost hit 75k.

That definitely held true, but man, I’m still so proud of myself for managing to keep up even while feeling burned out and getting sick. Like, look! I did it. Yay. You’ll get my monthly overview of PEDIA as well, because why not?

Over 253k words posted! Not my record for a PEDIA but it’s the third most I’ve ever done during one of these challenges, which I’ve been doing since 2017 (except my thesis year). Like this month is kind of stressful and getting into a bit of grind with it all, but the sense of accomplishment when sitting back is indescribable. And I still try so very hard to keep the quality top notch, because despite how I like to get lost in my stats - it’ll always be the words that matter more than the numbers.

I’m going to take a very chill time in September. I’ll still keep up with my daily writing habit but we’re aiming for 1k a day instead, and for this coming week, I am going to maybe only keep up with the journalling to take a break.

The characterization of this series is its essence that drew me towards the end of this fic. I absolutely loved the portrayal of Jimin's character of someone who doesn't believe in the permanence of anything. Some of the parts hit harder than the most, as the memories of relationships uncover deepest feelings of the OC. A must read!

"My heart burns for your love." A beautiful metaphor, ain't it? But this metaphor turns into reality when you find out your boyfriend to be emotionally engaging with someone else and then you realize, that your heart, indeed, burns for his love.

This is one of the most tear-jerking fics I've read so far. The realism of this series is so heart-wrenching and true to the core, that we all must have faced at some or the other point in our lives. The best work of the writer so far. Absolutely loved it!

Dreaded Neighbors(m) by @99liners (a, f, d, h) [arrange marriage]

Your husband, Jimin and you barely know each other. And surprisingly, both are equally shy, not so ready to make a move. Thanks to your neighbors, whom you both equally try to avoid, and in that journey, you find something together: love.

This fic is fresh, quirky, modern and pretty sexy, in fact. It takes a new and a very, very relatable perspective on arrange marriages, love, age gap and the marital relationships. The awkwardness between the leads, the romance and the situations amongst their friends, colleagues, relatives etc. is absolutely delectable. Totally worth reading!

An emotional rollercoaster ride featuring thickest monarch vocabulary (and mind me, it's so sexy, oh lord), the overwhelming sexual tension between the leads and foremost, the best smut scenes I've come across so far.

To pay your university fees, you get yourself recruited as a surrogate for a very attractive and elite gay couple. But soon, as your pregnancy sets in, they start taking TOO much care of you and the things, for sure, get complicated.

It is bold, sinful, highly explicit and morally wrong, yet I've got to admit it: this fic is indeed my biggest guilty pleasure till date. The character development, the problems faced by the queer people around the globe and the pregnancy issues women have to deal with are the highlights of this fic along with the steamy intimate scenes among the leads. Very vulgar, but yes, the best in its genre.

Oh, What A World(m) by @cutechim (a, f, d, h) [contract marriage, popstar]

After almost ruining his idol career, Jimin is determined to dedicate his everything to revive his nation's it-boy fame. But much to his dismay, his PR team puts up the idea of contract marriage, in order to whitewash his past misdeeds. Enters you, a heartbroken law prodigy, who catches his interest.

The cutest, the loveliest, the most adorable fic I've read so far. The best part is that the way Jimin's character has been written is so familiar to the original Jimin that we know: warm, affectionate, clumsy, cute, sexy, sensitive and everything! The chemistry between the leads as well as the other main characters is an absolute delight. A MUST READ FOR ALL JIMIN FANS!

A Remedy For Mondays(m) by @dovechim (a, f, h) [office, fake dating/pregnancy]

After bunking your miserable office life for a fan-meet, you end up faking a pregnancy naming your co-worker, Jimin as your partner-in-crime to cover up. But soon, everything comes crashing to you and you do realize, that indeed, you took the worst possible remedy for Mondays.

A Hilarious, Sexy and Quirky ride full of surprises and of course, a happy ending. The weird situations the leads find themselves stuck in between and oh, Jimin's Grandma. DEFINITELY A MUST READ.
