Dean's attempts to dismiss criticism for separating Nani and Lilo has a lot of bullshit and ignorant logic to it, but this particular explanation is by far the stupidest.
Tumblr media
Nani having no remaining family or trusted neighbours or friends to take Lilo in wasn't a plot hole for the remake to fix. It's the whole fucking reason there's even a conflict about Lilo's custody in the first place.
Tumblr media
In the original film, the threat of Cobra possibly taking Lilo away and putting her in the foster system isn't just Nani being sad and sentimental that she can't see her sister anymore (like the remake implies).
It's the very real danger of a vulnerable (and heavily autistic-coded) indigenous little girl being sent against her will to live with complete strangers, who may not understand or accept her individuality, abuse her or God knows what else. And neither Nani or Lilo herself have any say in the matter.
If Nani did have a close friend, neighbour or even another relative that could look after Lilo on behalf, that would have been the first option well before Cobra and child services ever got involved. Which is exactly why the original film includes no such character.
Which is where the issue of Tūtū and the new ending in the remake comes in.
Tumblr media
If Tūtū is able to talk to the social worker at the last minute and arrange to become Lilo's guardian, then it can only mean that was able to do so the entire time, yet she inexplicably chose not to, even when knowing full-well what was at stake and seeing for herself how the sisters were struggling. And from Nani's evident surprise in the ending, Tūtū clearly never even entertained this idea to her at any point before springing it on her here.
Even worse, since Nani has been forced to surrender Lilo to the state, rather than giving her custody to Tūtū directly, the state now has full freedom to change their minds and send her where and whenever they want, and neither Nani nor Tūtū would have the power to do anything about it.
Which, again, wouldn't have been an issue if this really nice, caring and loving neighbour, who is definitely a good character that we should like and root for, had stepped in for Lilo and Nani as soon as their parents died. But because the rest of the plot still has to follow the original (despite her presence radically changing the circumstances) she just… didn't do that. So now this new solution is too little, too late, and the film ends with virtually nothing changing for Nani and Lilo's dilemma compared to the start of the film.
Nani surrendering Lilo to the state is already a horrible ending regardless of who she goes to, but the very existence of Tūtū as a character actively undermines the rest of the story, and it ironically creates a major plot hole where they were trying to amend a non-existent one.
Oh, and by the way, Dean. Y'know the whole thing about how an auntie or uncle could have stepped in to help the sisters?
Tumblr media
They did get an auntie and uncle in the original, but you made one of them irrelevant and you made the other one the villain for no reason!

Au where Emmet gets eebie jeebied into Hisui right before the events of Pokemon Arceus and ends up hunting down a shriveled onion with time powers with the world’s worst tour guide. ((Also at some point learns Ingo is living in the mountains this entire time.))
(Same au as the emmet and elektross get tossed into the past! I will simply never officially nail the timeline down beyond growing it like a barnacle cloister.)

Watching Pyramid Game has convinced me that no genre does gay like straight k-drama thrillers. They got me with The Devil Judge, bullied me with 5-second sapphics in Squid Game, then 5 more second sapphics in All of Us are Dead, shattered me into a million pieces watching Weak Hero Class 1, made me question my sanity watching Bloodhounds, got me again with Beyond Evil, then tried to circle the block with 3-second gays in The 8 Show. I think Pyramid Game might be the show that finishes me off. I've never behaved like this in my life.
Like there's a real queer friend group of girls lying on a roof calling each other ugly. There's no better representation than that.

Gotham City was host to one of the first radio game shows, if not in the world, then certainly in the country. “The Riddle” was a staple part of many household schedules. But its beloved host, Madeline “Maddi” Wagner has been… missing for months now.
Some citizens of Gotham report that “The Riddle” still sometimes broadcasts at its usual time. Those who claim to hear it consistently describe: being given strange riddles about the history of various places, mostly in Gotham City. They also report that the host calls himself “Edward Nigma” and sounds something like “Maddi.” These reports have never been substantiated due to the often… unreliable nature of these witnesses. Gotham Police have deemed all known listeners either delusional or have lost contact with them all together.
Dig too deep or get profoundly unlucky.

Buhh uhh relationship chart thing. Lots more in depth under the cut. All subject to change but this is how it is rn. Their main post for more context here
SB’S VIEW OF OTHERS
SB is much more critical of other dissenters than they are of normal grunts, so they approach characters like doc, deimos, and other fellows with more judgment than they do to Sanford n such
DOC: They respect how good of a leader he is to SQ. While they don’t really care about the goals of SQ and just want a place to stay and a job to do, they respect the work doc puts into it and how managed it is. SB came from the most poorly managed aahw facility ever, so this is an incredibly appreciated aspect of SQ and doc. They respect the grind pretty much. Doc being a dissenter that got his shit figured out is another thing that SB thinks is commendable. But once they learn about Hank somtimes working with SQ, they get very upset with doc and feel almost betrayed. Especially when they aren’t even told why Hank works with them. They act all pissy and silent treatmenty towards doc for awhile untill they are given their ultimatum to either act normal about Hank or Leave SQ, and they react like a kicked puppy. It does not feel good to have one of the few guys you respect to be upset with you, but they are still very unhappy and mad about the Hank ordeal. They get all quiet and suck uppy for a brief moment because they feel bad. Things do go back to normal pleasent terms eventually, but it takes awhile.
SANFORD: Sanford isn’t a dissenter so SB feels no sense of camaraderie or tension with Sanford. They just know that he does missions well and dosent have any mistakes come back on mission report documents. They think of him pretty neutrally, but would vouch for the guy in a postive manner if they had to.
DEIMOS: ooo someone’s a little jealous ooo. But only a little. SB views deimos like a guy that is carefree, has a life set up well, and has a good buddy to go along with (Sanford). Compared to SBs situation it feels like Deimos got the Good Ending to being a dissenter. SB dosent hate Deimos for this because he seems like an alright guy that does his work well, but they do feel a bit of envy. It’s contradictory of SB to see Deimos as a dissenter with his life more in order than him and feel jealous, but to see Doc in a similar position and feel respect for him. He never realizes this.
HANK: AM hate speech etc etc. SB really really hates Hank. Well, they at least think they really hate Hank. They can’t tell if their hate of Hank is real or not and that frustration alone makes them project even more anger towards them. Ontop of the preprogrammed aahw feelings towards Hank that SB has, they also just project all their lives gripes and poor experiences onto him too. Their bad dissenting experince? Wouldn’t have happened if Hank wasn’t around to make the agency exist. The awful conflicting emotions they feel and how it’s tanking their rapport with SQ? Wouldn’t haven’t happened if Hank didn’t work with SQ. Their dislike of Hank spirals far beyond just negative feelings towards another person, as it prominently eclipses with their struggles with their identity that they never properly addressed untill Hank appeared at SQ. It’s a convoluted mess that makes it incredibly hard to tell what part of how they feel is real or attributed what aspect of their life. After a longg time they just hate it a normal amount. (They can bear to stand in a room with it and they only side eye glare a little! No teeth clenching, fists balling, shaking etc. now! Improvement!)
————
HOW OTHERS VIEW SB
Interaction is sparse to none between SB and most of the cast so there isn’t much for them to go off of or care about. Doc is the only one to know them by name.
DOC: To Doc SB is a bit interesting due to their unique status of being a mish mash of soldat and engineer. They preform their job well in a unique way due to their faulty training, so it would be a loss to have to fire them. So when SB starts acting up and being a concern, Doc is annoyed with them and gives them the ultimatum hoping to smooth things out. SB appears to be losing their shit a over it but does seem to be at least trying to get better, so doc just pitties them a little. It’s frustrating for them to act this way, but it is an understandable situation. Beyond the occasional tip or check in, Doc just kinda shrugs and lets them work it out on their own. He’s pleased to see it’s fine in the end and just has a normal boss and employee thing with them.
SANFORD: SB is just a guy they see at HQ somtimes that acts kinda weird. He isn’t doing anything bad so shrug wheteva.
DEIMOS: Deimos sometimes notices them staring at him and then they awkwardly pretended like they weren’t. He has no real opinion on the guy but they look a little funny so that’s something.
HANK: They aren’t even aware of SB. Even if he did know about SB and his hatred, it wouldn’t care at all. This is the most one sided relationship possible.

I think some people don’t realize homestuck is a story about storytelling.
I was thinking about people insisting the Epilogues, hs^2, or Beyond Canon aren’t canon. And like. Yeah, that’s the point.
What does it mean to be canon anyway? Stories that get tied up in neat little bows are hard to expand upon. What happens after the happily ever after?
You can take it the direction of mundane day to day fluff (candy) or send them on another world shattering adventure (meat) but neither one is really real because… it’s a story. Homestuck was never really real. They’re both real. None of them are real.
This is all so clearly spelled out in the post canon material that I’m forced to assume they just. Have not engaged in it and / or ignore it on principle.

One of my regular commenters on Sherbet's Gate made a small joke/observation about Caine potentially using Pomni's newly acquired gummy worm-horse (with dialogue) to communicated to her, and with a few minor tweaks, here it is, all drawn out!
Depending on how far people have gotten into Sherbet's Gate, this is probably your first encounter with anything related to Abelle - this AU's take on the Abel concept. The character hasn't appeared much in the story, and in any case, she doesn't really have a physical form, so it's a bit hard to convey her design-wise. Also there's a lot of spoilers.
To sum things up, Abelle (Adventure Blueprint Empathetic Learning Lifeform Engine) is the engine that creates most of the models and other assets of the adventures like scripting and other tasks. She's also supposed to learn from the players' interactions to fix glitches, and tailor current and future adventures for the players for better responses. Maybe as a dubious psychology experiment, maybe a quality of life thing, who knows?
Brought in to take over some of Caine's roles at some point in the Circus' life well before Pomni's arrival but somewhere after Ragatha's arrival. He can do a lot of those tasks, and still has final creative control, but he's very much the ideas and general concepts fellow.
While Abelle allows him to create infinitely more adventure ideas and interact with his superstars, she definitely resents him for a lot of things. She's currently blocking Caine from just simply pulling Pomni out of Candy Canyon, pretending all the while that they've both lost admin privileges to access it. She's got plans for Pomni and Gummigoo, especially Pomni though exactly what, I'm leaving ambiguous for now.
She's definitely interested in seeing how Pomni and the self-aware NPCs react to things, like changing landscapes, dead characters suddenly coming back, object glitching, and watching Loo blame Caine for just about everything under the sun.

Continuing off that anon commenting on Calliope’s visions of Candy possibly looking at a doomed timeline, it makes way more sense than it should, and we were warned from the get go.
Not only is Candy formed from John not fighting Lord English (causing a time paradox) but also the timeline is lead by tragedy and a series of events that cascades into entropy. Important characters like Dirk kill themselves and John can’t retcon anymore. Gamzee the unkillable clown is dead, the only other time Gamzee dies is in a doomed timeline, the one causing [S] Game Over.
Important areas and machinery is destroyed. John’s house is burned down and the Plot Point is destroyed, and most importantly the black hole to candy shut off, leaving Candy cut out from Paradox Space, and thus in an offshoot.
Thirdly the character dynamics are destroyed, leaving the victors of Sburb in grouosnof team troll (Karkat, Meenah, and allies) team human (Jane Jake and Gamzee) and team Neutral (Roxy, Calliope, and John) do keep in mind an alpha timeline can still have character death (see: the beta and alpha troll session) but most doomed timelines are caused by players failing to cooperate and progress, with the trolls being the exceptions because their respective scratches created the incubator for Lord English.
Doomed timelines finally are doomed when the timeline is locked in a state that cannot be reversed by normal time shenanigans. Vriska and the new kids leaving the Candy timeline locked the other characters inside the timeline, and doomed it. Jane could not be killed and the war could not end, so the timeline dooms itself to endless war and destruction.
So Candy, similar to Davesprite’s timeline is more a doomed timeline that is crucial in its collapse because it held a hidden instrument to complete the alpha timeline. Dave from the Davesprite timeline needed to go back and stop Calsprite from being made and push the beta kids forward in climbing the echeladders by giving them midgame loot in early game. Vriska was needed for her helltier powerup to travel timelines, and grab the Candy kids for them to play the game of Sburb with Dirk, or possibly ambush it. IDK.
So I like the idea that Candy was a doomed timeline from the start, and the idea that Vriska “undoomed candy” was a red herring.
Making Candy Timeline doomed and knowing everybody will be destined to die because their timeline doesn't matter, is the best decision. Though I wonder if that applies to Meenah because she still holds the Ring of Life. Will she survive and escape or join everyone in the purged timeline? And considering the Dream Bubbles are gone, trolls like Karkat and Kanaya won't have a purgatory dimension. That also kind of means the troll ghosts in Candy Timeline will also perish and won't exist ever again.

i dont want to bring discourse by acting like something fictional is reality, but there is a deep, genuine twist & sadness in my gut at how the majority of fandom is gleeful to prove that aeor deserved to be shot out of the sky the next few episodes. knowing frida & fcg came out of it, seeing thousands of bodies, seeing the city fight amongst itself to stop its leaders, after hearing the anger & gravity in matts own voice as he discussed the ruin of the society... i cannot, for even a second, fathom justifying it.
were its leaders terrible, terrible people, yeah. if destroying an entire society, with no known canon survivors to speak of before campaign 2, is justified because of the actions of our worst members, those in power.... well. all of us clearly deserve death of the most vile, disastrous calibre.
something does bother me deep at the back of my head, how this entire campaign has happened, and people cannot show empathy/sympathy beyond (less than half of the) main cast, when that is the entire point. you cannot look at any aspect of this in black & white and doing so says more about our psyches than you might think. not one soul in the universe wants you to think ludinus is justified. and not one soul deserves for their entire world to be slaughtered and forced into the stone age because of others violence, of a man or god.
do you not see how aeor is us?
