This might sound crazy, but wouldn't it be something if Chris ended up being a catalyst for Buck and Eddie to have their respective realizations about themselves and just, everything?

Like Eddie's still dating Marisol unfortunately, Buck's still dating Natalia why god why, and Chris kinda begins to distance himself from both of them and it's making his parents concerned as all hell, especially Eddie. And it isn't until Chris ends up in the middle of a Eddie/Marisol and Buck/Natalia double date and storms off that Eddie and Buck can't take it anymore and go ask Chris what's been going on. And Chris just goes off on both of them:

"Before, it always used to be just the three of us! But now, we're barely together anymore and if it's not because of work, it's because of them! Why can't it just be us?"

And it isn't until everything has calmed down, the girls are gone, and Buck and Eddie are in their respective rooms ready to crash that they just stop and think:

"Why can't it just be us?"

And that's when Buck FINALLY recognizes the hamster wheel he's been on and puts a full stop to it by dumping Natalia and Eddie realizes that he's just not into Marisol and breaks things off.

After that, they spend the rest of the season just focusing on themselves, upgrading the Buckley-Diaz family and going through their respective bi/queer awakenings before the end of the season, where either Buck is the one pining or there's mutual pining from both Buck and Eddie.

so many people were speculating that buck was gonna find out about kim and be pissed and i’m so glad that isn’t what happened. the SECOND buck realized something was wrong he went to eddie to make sure he was OKAY. not to lecture, not to judge, but to be there for him. whether they end up together or not, what they have is a really special kind of love.

Buck: absolutely flailing as a baby disaster bisexual and sending his date running for the hills before they even finish their meal.

I love how it is established that Buck is always welcome at the Diaz house. In season 6, when he turned up, Eddie was barely surprised, and Buck didn't seem nervous or unsure about whether he was overstepping boundaries. In season 7, he turns up at night through the back door and Eddie's only confusion is that he didn't use the front. And in S2 (I think, but maybe S3) when Buck says "it's Eddie's house, I'm not really a guest" to Maddie when we've literally never seen him in the Diaz house before??

I am obsessed with how Buck, a character established to have been almost lost, looking for a home and a loving family and feeling like he was talking up too much space in his own childhood home, is shown to be so comfortable at Eddie's, and that Eddie, someone who does not trust people easily, especially with Chris, has clearly put the work in to make sure that Buck has no doubts about his place in their home.

Also canonically they both have keys right? (Eddie waking Buck up so he can take Chris to that tsunami, Buck getting into Eddie's house when he had the breakdown and finding Chris in the hallway (Chris didn't let him in...)) I mean idk if it's different in the USA/LA, but generally people lock their doors right?

Chris: Hey Buck.

Buck: So...your dad tells me that you're-

Chris: Dad called you to give me dating advice, didn't he?

Buck: Uh, yeah.

Chris: Didn't your last girlfriend almost get Uncle Bobby in trouble by reporting on that crazy firefighter?

Buck: W-Well yeah-

Chris: And didn't you take Natalia couch shopping after knowing her for, like, a couple of weeks?

Buck:

Eddie: Well?

Buck: We are so not equipped for this conversation.

Eddie: Fuck.
