To that anon ask I got - I'm not going to post it because I don't want the comments, but I do agree that there is a tendency with straight actors to over correct what they think is stereotyping, to the point where it actually tips into being offensive. And yes, using words like 'predatory' belies a bias that needs examining.
I need codependent Danny/Jason as a little treat (for me) and I love the idea of them having some sort of instant connection the moment they meet (bc ghost stuff idk)
Danny who's been dropped in Gotham with no way home (alt universe??) and he's been here for 36 hours and having a Very bad time senses a liminal being and immediately latches onto them heedless of the fact that his new best friend is shooting at some seedy guys in an alley and goes off about how stressed he is and how he can't make it back to the ghost zone and what a bad day he's been having (and it's important to note Danny is a littol ghost boy literally hanging off of Jason's neck as he floats aimlessly) and Jason is like "who are you??" And Danny is like "oh sorry I'm Danny lol" and then just continues lamenting his woes
And honestly ? This might as well happen. Nothing about this Danny guy(is he human?) gives Jason a bad vibe and tbh he's never felt more calm and level headed before so he just keeps up his usual Red Hood patrol and doesn't even think about it when he heads back to a safehouse and feeds Danny dinner (breakfast) before crashing for half the day
The only thing I actually need is Jason meeting up with the bats for some sort of Intel meeting and they're like "uhhh who's that" and Jason is like "that's Danny." And does not elaborate (very ".... What do you have there?" "A smoothie" vibes)
And it takes them a while to realize that these two have known each other for less than 12 hours and are literally attached at the hip
2.5k ; buck comes out to chris, chris diagnoses him with bisexuality, and the buckley-diaz family is the most family-shaped family ever.
It should be weird, is the thing – Tommy dropping him off at the Diaz house for dinner. But he didn't even bat an eye when Buck said he couldn't do Saturday night because Eddie was attempting to cook a new recipe and Buck had promised to be there to try it.
He had just nodded thoughtfully, like prioritizing dinner with a friend over a date wasn’t weird and said, "I’ll just take you out in the afternoon instead." And that was that.
Buck has never had a partner like this, someone makes him feel equally valued in both their own life and Eddie and Christopher’s. It's kind of dizzying. They had a flying lesson today – though the word "lesson" quickly became irrelevant when Buck got too distracted by the views of the city and Tommy’s competence to do anything but hold his hand about it over the gearshift.
Tommy mentioned something about yoga, which got Buck started on a rant about one of the PTA moms at Chris's school, and how she always wears head to toe lululemon and constantly hits on Eddie despite Eddie very clearly shutting her down every time. And her cupcakes are definitely store bought, which is totally fine, but she acts like she made them from scratch. And she never has gluten free options. It's about five minutes of this before Buck realizes how long his mouth has been moving and he snaps it shut, suddenly self-conscious about how much he just rambled on about going to school bake sales with Chris and Eddie, and thinking that Tommy will probably find that very weird.
But then he looks over, and Tommy’s smiling – the smile that causes his whole face to crinkle up in a way that makes Buck’s heart do backflips in his chest. He places a warm, solid hand on Buck's thigh and asks, "Does she at least bring peanut-free options?"
And Buck says, "No!" and they both laugh and the sun shines through the glass onto Tommy’s face as his nose scrunches up and Buck's stomach swoops, only partially due to the fact that they are thousands of feet in the air.
Buck: Better than the bachelor? The guy everyone wants?
Eddie: Yes.
Buck: Like who?
Eddie: Like someone who is slightly taller, slightly older, isn’t as handsome as him but has great hair, nice-ish personality, and could be readily available if you just said the word
Something something about bachelor party buck and Eddie and alcohol lowering inhibitions and therefore allowing them to display the closeness they can’t normally display with one another
Something something about Eddie saying g ‘this changes nothing between us’ only for us to then be shown them behaving very different when inhibitions are not inhibiting - when the truth of how things are changed/changing between them is allowed to exist for a period of time
this might be controversial, but man am i becoming increasingly convinced that buddie trutherism* is just not (and probably never has been) a very healthy way to engage with this show. *to be clear, by this i don't mean shipping buddie, or hoping it'll be canon, or thinking that it could be, i mean the completely unshakeable belief that it is absolutely going to happen (and to a lesser extent that it's always been the plan).
every single piece of evidence for buddie is evidence of a potential, often very compelling potential, but there is really nothing to suggest some big six season plan or any plan at all.
i'm sure a lot of these ppl (maybe even most) aren't bad, or doing anything out of malice. however, i do think having a large chunk of the fandom make post after post, week after week, season after season going "don't worry guys, buddie's definitely happening because of x, y or z," has helped create the current environment. where ppl have spent so long in a bubble where buddie's been presented as the only reasonable outcome, that they can't conceive of the idea they might've been wrong.
atp a lot of buddie meta isn't a queer reading of the show/relationship it's just straight up lies. no tommy isn't a miserable hater who never smiles at his bf, nor is he a predatory freak preying on sweet baby bi buck, and no eddie wasn't jealous at the wedding, no buck didn't realise he was in love with eddie when he came out to him. truly, after a decade in different fandoms, I don't think i've ever seen shipping goggles this bad.
again i don't think the ppl making meta/analysis about things that genuinely have some queer subtext to them are bad or doing anything wrong. but, when a narrative that you're contributing to is feeding into this much wider ecosystem that's influencing others to harass ppl and peddle homophobic dog whistles in an attempt to bridge the gap between their fanon and canon, at what point do you step back and go, "you know what, i don't think it's responsible for me to feed into this anymore."
and i worry that even the people who aren't hurting others with this kind of engagement, are gonna end up hurting themselves in the long run.
when he’s told that shannon’s situation is bad, he immediately accepts that she is going to die. when he’s told by buck that he couldn’t find christopher, that christopher is gone, he accepts that his child is dead. eddie’s world comes down and he just...surrenders to its cruelty, and to the bitter understanding that this is the way things are. he argues with the others that he doesn’t worry about the things outside of his control, but it’s because he knows he’d never win anyway. he folds, because what other choice does he have than to accept with gritted teeth whatever torment the world chooses to inflict
so i don’t know. to see him like this? crying out for someone who’s already dead until his voice is hoarse, begging with buck’s lifeless body to respond to him, crying out against the mounting hopelessness of the situation as he fails to pull him up, as buck’s body dangles almost mockingly below him? it’s so unthinkably cruel
