Some pre-game interactions I thought up for Circe! Here’s a summary of Circe’s feelings on each of the above heroes: 👇

Junkrat:

Upon first meeting him, Circe found him deplorable and slightly intimidating due to his chaotic nature. Circe doesn’t like loud noises or overstimulating environments and… well… look at the dude. He reminded her of what she could become if she embraced her “less-than-kind” urges. It doesn’t help that he’s a passionate pyromaniac so he’s constantly trying to start conversation about her cybernetics, much to her chagrin. Overtime, however, Circe’s feelings turned less into judgement and more into sympathy and she could tell Junkrat had seen and been through quite a bit to end up how he is now. In other interactions, she’s slightly more patient and attempts to remain kind despite his chaotic nature and tendencies. While she finds his questions about her abilities completely inane, she’s fine with humouring him and talking about the hypotheticals.

Sombra:

Sombra was one of the people that would visit the cells of test subjects to taunt them or to start up condescending conversations, Circe included. Circe finds her extremely irritating and dislikes how much Sombra taunts her with her old life and who she used to be/could’ve been, since it is an extremely sensitive topic to her. Circe especially hates Sombra because she is a huge reminder of the control Talon used to have over her and, speaking in terms of the game, seeing her in the spawn room and listening to her taunts leads her to fear that they might reclaim that power one day.

Genji:

Meeting another person with cybernetic enhancements was definitely a breath of fresh air for Circe, even more so since Genji is at such peace with his new form. Circe greatly admires, and is also partially jealous of, individuals who are able to remain tranquil and calm in times of hardship or after hardships, Genji included. He is obviously much wiser than her and offers advice when she asks for it, albeit Circe seems to disregard his advice about forgiveness since she doesn’t believe it applies to her. Circe also often feels guilty about being upset at her own trauma since other characters like Genji, in her opinion, have been through worse/are going through worse. Though she discounts this and continues to hold onto that anger.

Illari:

After hearing about the absolute tragedy that Illari went through, Circe feels nothing but empathy for her. As said above, she feels guilty for expressing a modicum of misery towards her own adversities when other people have been through worse in her eyes. Circe is often first to initiate conversation with Illari, praying that she doesn’t give off the wrong social cue to make her assume that she’s approaching her out of pity. Circe offers Illari encouragement and support and also offers to converse about any troubles she may be having, to which the latter, while appreciating the gesture, turns her down. Circe is also partly jealous of Illari due to her being able to remain stoic and impassive about her trauma and being able to do so at such a young age. She takes note of this and makes sure not to infantalise or condescend to her, since she knows she’s competent on her own and knows how irritating it is to be spoken down to. Overall, their association is awkward but they do find solace with each other.

Moira:

To say that Circe hates Moira would be too kind. She never knew she had the capacity to hate someone as much as she hates her. Since Moira was responsible for the painful torture and the experimentation that she went through for several years Circe feels nothing but anger, resentment and bitterness towards the scientist. Circe is characterised as a highly empathetic person (often to a fault since she has a hard time taking herself out of other people’s shoes, but I digress) so to feel so much hatred and hostility towards someone is a new feeling to her, but she excuses it. Moira is extremely unbothered by Circe’s thoughts on her and her actions and continues to threaten her with her return to her lab. TL;DR: Circe hates her and does not respect her or her work.

Kind of weird question to ask,but are there any character tropes or stereotypes that the you hope the OW team dont fall into with the Kanezaka fox hero. Stuff like the typical Japanese girl with highlights or "avenge my father plot". If not that, what are you hoping to get out this hero in relation to Shimada or lore in general

Well I think we're already falling into the "Mystical Asian" stereotype with the fox spirit, even though that was already present with the Shimada Dragons (and even though Michael Chu has said the dragons aren't magical, there still hasn't been an explanation in-line with the kind of sci-fi elements of Overwatch). Honestly, looking at the color of the fox and the fox charm, my gut is telling me this character is going to be very aesthetically similar to the earliest Sombra concept, Omniblade:

Reading back over the Kanezaka letter, her mother talked about her kind of hinted at a "young punk" character with an emphasis on street fashion (as well as the graffiti in Kanezaka emphasizing ‘edgy’ ‘street’ elements) but also obvious ninja elements--so you already have the dyed hair trope, but that's kind of to signal to the audience, 'Hey she's young and rebellious!' Like, this would kind of fill a character niche in the support class of a younger support character, but definitely 'edgier' than Mercy but more 'chaotic good' than Moira. I feel like this is a character who might be designed to kind of force Hanzo into a 'mentor' position to kind of speedrun his redemption arc--that is if Hanzo gets any plot development at all, they did say Hanzo would be as relevant in the PvE arcs as the hamster. Honestly I'm keeping my expectations low with blizzard, and like... my biggest hope for this character is that she's canonically trans, but this is blizzard we're talking about so again, keeping expectations low.

Mauga thoughts

He is a biter

He WILL bite you if you hold him down

The only one who can really keep Mauga under control after Baptiste left Talon is Doomfist

Doomfist uses violence for that (of course) (he has been bit while holding him down) (uses his gauntlet hand around Maugas head now)

Mauga refuses to let Moira experiment on him (even though she'd love to), my boy has had enough of unpermitted alterations to his body, even though he liked the changes the first time

He really doesnt get along with Reaper

Reaper is very bitter/serious/stern about the fights and Talon's mission, completely opposite of Mauga who sees it as a game and a fun way to spend his time

Reaper tells Mauga regularily that this isnt a game and that he should stop playing with dying men

Mauga is not impressed by any of reapers threats, he finds them amusing at best

#1 reaper bully, walks through him on purpose on a daily basis just cause he likes the feeling of the smoke on his skin

Sombra sympathizer

There are not many other fun people to spend time with at Talon anyways

Sombra is weary of him and pretty quickly saw through his happy and laid-back mask when she watched him in battle

But she also doesnt have many optional conversation partners at the base, so they hang out and bully Reaper together

Sombra is fascinated with how he gets his hair so nice and fluffy (the secret is the blood of your enemies)

Pranks him sometimes by putting sticky notes on his back that he cant reach because he is too buff

He can play Ukulele or at least owns one (canon)

It used to belong to Baptiste

Mauga took it from his things after he left Talon, its his only reminder of their time together

Sometimes Mauga just holds it and plays a few notes when he is reminiscing

Together with his guns one of the only things he hates people touching

Could work really well with Lucio if he wanted to

Maybe I'm writing Lucio a bit very naive here but I feel like he could be fooled by Mauga's personality (and Mauga would take full advantage of that)

Like he would bring this dude to the base á la "hey guys meet my new friend he plays ukulele and is really fun" with Mauga just grinning as everyone stares in horror

Baptiste used Mauga as a couch during their Talon times (illegal murder operations dont really provide comfortable resting places, so you make due)

Both miss it, both have no one close enough to replicate the feeling (which doesnt mean they dont try)

Mauga leans his guns on his side or the ukulele on his chest, but since everyone has enough common sense to not go anywhere near him thats all he can do

I think it would be funny if during a mission brief a very tired Sigma leans onto him (he doesnt have this famous common sense to really notice the danger radiating off Mauga) and everyone holds their breath as it happens. Against all odds Mauga doesnt say anything as he quietly enjoys it. Its not a common occurence, much to Mauga's disappointment.

Baptiste sits on the side of the couch, owns a very big pillow and the tendency to lean onto people if he gets very tired (since most people arent a 6 foot mountain of muscle  though, they dont really have the necessary strength to hold him)

Some eventually catch on and subliminally try to persuade Reinhardt to sit next to Baptiste more often. Maybe Reinhardt notices it too, but definitely not as the first lets be honest. (Reinhardt is the general couch for everyone in Overwatch who wants to, i dont make the rules)

Mauga's body needs a LOT of nutrients and protein to keep up its shape, more so with him working out on the side, so this man is constantly eating

This guy is a foodie, gets really gnarly when he's hungry and even more ruthless and unpredictable

Fish is a main food in Samoa, but since Mauga has a strong connection to the ocean and the ecosystem behind it I dont think he would eat any fish he didnt catch himself. And he doesnt trust Talon enough to verify where the fish came from. So no fish for him right now.

Is a sweettooth, there a lot of sweet samoan dishes featuring coconut milk and fresh fruit from the island

He probably often complains about the cheap quality of the fruits Talon have to offer him. They get picked too early before truly ripe or just dont seem to have the same intense flavor as an island grown fruit would have.

Can and will crack a coconut easily by hand. Or rather by teeth.

(I wonder if that is humanly possible)

(I looked it up. You need around 610N to crack open a coconut. Humans can bite with about 1000-1400N. So its possible. Crazy.)

Being used to warm and tropical weather he struggles with any mission too far up north. He has to wear more clothing during those, limiting his mobility and effectiveness.

Probably has a hard time finding fitting clothes in general, Talon has a special seamstress just for this case. (And for Doom and Sigma too probably, they are huge)

Is a very well educated man and still keeps up with recent studies and research, especially revolving around marine biology.

He doesnt show this side of him in public, only reading when he is alone in his room.

Sigma is able to gain access to whatever books and publications he wants, nobody really double checks because they dont care or wouldnt understand anyway. So Mauga puts his desired books on Sigma's list and takes them from his lab once they arrive.

Sombra picks up on this eventually, since she spends a lot of time with Sigma. What will she do with this information? Who knows.

Sigma isnt aware of this but does wonder why there are books about non-physics topics around. Sometimes he looks at the colourful reef pictures.

Scuba Sigma - the origin story

He knows how vital they are for marine life and relates to them.

They look and are told to be extremely aggressive, but arent. They still are incredibly powerful and efficient killing machines though. There is a nice metaphor compared to himself here. Somewhere.

Corrects anyone badmouthing sharks and doesnt care if that feels "out of character" to bystanders

Always wanted to learn how to surf but is lacking balance and a normal body size. And since being in Talon, time. And water. Everything really, but he thinks about it sometimes.

Good swimmer, his body shape is not super helpful but he makes up for it with great strength and form

Loves to dive, not necessarily in whole gear, but he can hold his breath longer than average

Generally just enjoys being in water

Knows how to catch fish (of course)

Usually you'd catch fish with a traditional net or maybe hook and rod, but Mauga knows how to spearfish and sometimes does it to show off

If there are no current missions he helps out carrying cargo and other equipment around Talon quarters. Its something of a practical workout for him.

Not a drinker. One or two bottles of beer at most. He wants to be in full control and aware of his sorroundings at all times.

He does pretend to be more intoxicated to provoke bystanders to let their guard down.

If he truly gets wasted he is the silent type. The "stares at you uncomfortably from a corner"-type. His extroverted and noisy facade disappears, revealing the cunning and sadistic spirit inside.

It’s October baby. Vaguely horror movie themed OW headcanons:

- Gabriel is, as people often assume him to be, a horror buff. What significantly fewer people realize is that the reason he loves them is that they always get him

- Reinhardt has trashy taste and loves a good jumpscare. It doesn’t even really have to be good actually, as long as he gets the thrill of something shocking he can laugh boisterously at

- Ana is too prideful to decline the offer to watch a horror movie, they’ll get her and she’ll channel that unease into being so so grumpy. The more often she notes that ‘these effects aren’t even good’ the more scared it’s probably gotten here

- Genji used to love a gorey splatfest, the more grotesque the better. Lately he hasn’t got the taste for it

- Orisa got SO quiet after accidentally watching a clip from a supernatural horror movie. At first Efi thought she’d gotten scared, but when she asked about it Orisa ‘simply needed most of her power to strategise on how to best engage a ghost with a big spear’

- Brig is banned from engaging in horror movies after a few to many ‘brig got jumpy with the shield’ incidents

- Torb does not have the patience for horror media, he’ll swear it all off and show general distaste for the genre. Up until he’s listened to people tell ghost stories in the common room a second too long, then he’ll quietly and matter of factly end the night with a story of his own to put all the others to shame

- Bastion has no grip on what is spooky to people, the few times they’ve tried to tell ghost stories like Torb the conclusion has been stuff like ‘and in the abandoned building … was a BALLOON’ (communicated through elaborated beeps and boops translated by Brig)

- Sombra and Lúcio are both seemingly immune to most horror and VERY prone to ‘slow paced existential sci-fi thriller’ specifically

- Jack does not believe in ghosts but does believe in the Jersey Devil

The factions within Overwatch piss me off, not because they exist but because even in lore it doesn’t really feel like they’re used that often beyond Talon and Overwatch

Like with Mirrorwatch most of the skins are Talon because we have so many Overwatch heroes and so few Talon heroes that the distribution is this

Then you get into the distribution of the heroes between the roles

The Junkers have three Tank heroes (Junker Queen, Roadhog, Wrecking Ball) and one Damage hero (Junkrat) which is wildly uneven and despite the fact that the Junkers living in a literal wasteland is the perfect setting for a Support Hero we haven’t heard anything about a Junker Support coming in the future which I feel is dumb

Then with Blackwatch they have three Damage heroes (Reaper, Genji, Cassidy) and one Support hero (Moira [it might be two because there’s some hint that Mercy used to be the Blackwatch medic but I haven’t seen any lore material for that so I can’t properly say]) with no word of they ever had a Tank, which just feels odd

Then the Shimada clan having two Damage heroes (Genji, Hanzo) and one Support hero (Kiriko) and no Tank

The Deadlock gang only technically has one hero representing them but the other does technically still represent them even if he left (Ashe, Cassidy) with no Support or Tank heroes representing them

The Shambali only has one Tank (Ramattra) and one Support (Zenyatta) representing them with no damage hero

Vishkar also doesn’t have a Tank hero, the Horizon Lunar Test Subjects only have two representing them and both are Tanks, Oasis only has one hero representing them with Moira, the Inti are only represented with Illari (like are there seriously no other people in the OW world that would step up and help Illari defend their tribe she’s fucking 18 why does she have to defend them on her own!?), Venture is the only one representing the Wayfinders Society, Torbjorn and Brigitte are the only ones representing the Ironclad Guild with no Tank, and so on

If we had a campaign or something that helped expand on these factions more maybe I wouldn’t have these feeling but they keep introducing such interesting factions with the heroes and then just not expanding on them, hell some of them have been since day one like Vishkar and yet they don’t have a map representing them

I want more heroes that expand and introduce more factions and parts of the Overwatch world but I’d also like to know more about the factions we can actually play as and since we’re not getting any sort of campaign or solo hero missions we need heroes that can actually reveal more about the factions, especially ones that fall into roles that these factions don’t have heroes in

This was more of a rant than anything but let me know what you think

Also this would help with my idea of faction buffs but I’m too tired to talk about that

Since you've been doing a lot of Overwatch lately, I'm curious, who would you say are your favorite characters to play? And, if this would be different, also who are your favorite characters, personality wise?

Pre-Transition I was a Mercy main, which I maintained until the end of 2017 when I fell off a bit.

NOW I’m a Moira main and I throw PEEBALL and WRONGBALL at people all day while using HEALPEE and SUCKHAND constantly.

Fav characters though?

Zarya because she’s tall, buff, and kind.

Mei because I love her forever.

Junker Queen because we love a Himbo here.

Doomfist because his dialogue is legendary and his voice is AMAZING.

D.Va for max gremlin mode.

Symmetra for great lines, awesome skins, and the CARWASH.

Sombra for her attitude and gay gay gay haircut.

Sojourn for ROCKET KNEES and being actually the smartest person in the room most times.

Pharah because I was a Mercy main and I ship them to this day.

Ana because MILF.

Baptiste because he’s just fun to play, he’s well balanced for me, and I love how he is voiced.

Lucio because he’s best boy.

Kiriko because she’s actually a sniper and healer and I wish I could play her better and just SHES SO OP.

And Zenyatta because he floats by robot farting. Also they need a ZenNyaNya skin for him.

Oh yeah Sombra's Season 7 rework has been revealed!

Now, we don't know the exact specifications of these changes, like damage numbers and certain mechanical details, but I'll go over what we do know and elaborate on the specifics of that.

Starting off, Machine Pistol, EMP, and Hack, as the image suggests, are not getting any substantial changes. Possibly worth noting that Hack's description simply says "Hacked enemies cannot use abilities", which... may be implying that Hack will now lock out abilities for its full duration like in OW1? Uncertain yet, but it might make sense give the other changes...

...such changes include her original passive, Opportunist, being removed. As a reminder, this passive provides two benefits: enemies at low health are revealed to Sombra (and ONLY Sombra) through walls, and Sombra deals bonus damage to hacked enemies. Both of those traits are being removed. The low health wallhack part makes sense to me since she already reveals enemies with Hack now, so doubling up on wallhack mechanics feels odd, and the part of her initial OW2 rework where you hack to just deal a bunch of damage to enemies with your normal gun has always been contentious, and is being more directly replaced with something we'll see later. Instead, this all is being replaced in the passive slot with... Stealth?

Yeah okay this is the weird part. Now, Stealth automatically activates whenever Sombra is "out of combat" for a few seconds. That means without taking damage or attacking yourself, though I imagine hacking and reloading still don't interrupt it, as with before. A change not explained here but shown in a clip of reworked Sombra gameplay that's been shown is that there's now a visible ring around your feet to show where you'll be revealed to enemies when bumping into them while in Stealth.

Translocator is getting some juicy changes too. Instead of being passively available after deploying, instead it activates on contact, think like an Ender Pearl from Minecraft. I'm assuming you're also able to still "detonate" it midair, though this is unconfirmed. Curiously, it also says it reduces Stealth's cooldown after teleporting, which... I mean I'd just assume you go invisible faster after TP'ing, I don't know why they'd need to say "cooldown" for a passive but alright.

Last up though is a brand new ability, which is why Stealth had to get bumped to a passive in order to remain part of her kit. Virus throws a projectile that deals damage over time to an enemy it hits. Hacked enemies take an increased rate of damage from it, which is the equivalent to her removed Opportunist damage buff against hacked enemies I alluded to earlier.

The overall concept behind this rework was to make Sombra feel more active than passive, which I feel came from removing "lame" parts of her kit as much as it did from adding new proactive mechanics.

Now, my thoughts... are optimistic but with some caveats.

I think the changes to Translocator are great, the fun movement part is retained while the incredibly annoying "get out of jail free" card of a pre-placed teleport to safety is thankfully gone. If you catch Sombra in a bad spot then she actually has to do more than just press one button to instantly warp to safety.

The removal of Opportunist feels like a fine way to get rid of her kit's clutter to me, the low health wallhacks just end up being a cheap way to get picked off in Deathmatch, and the damage bonus to hacked players is just not a super great-feeling mechanic on either end.

Virus is gonna be an interesting ability to see how it plays out. The concept is super simple, but the key seems to be comboing it with hack and her main damage to shred targets. Overwatch in general is good at making satisfying "skill shot" abilities, and Virus seems to be no exception, so I feel like this'll be a better implementation of her prior Opportunist-based damage combo. My one concern is that the counterplay to this is gonna be very one-dimensionally just have Suzu or Zarya Bubbles to cancel it and neuter Sombra completely, but honestly I don't think it'll be thaaaaat bad. Again, tanks can just eat or block the projectile, and Genji deflect is gonna make things funny as always, so ultimately I think this is gonna be fine.

Stealth though... that's the weird one. I'm apprehensive to it just straight-up being turned into a passive that kicks in whether you like it or not after a few seconds, especially since permanent Stealth until you want to exit it is one of the things I'm not fond of in her current design. Honestly, I think they could get away with making Stealth just an extra component of Translocator, where it kicks in after the teleport like what I assume is the case here, but that might be a lot to dump into one ability.

Overall I'm very curious to see how this rework plays out. Gut instinct is that at minimum it's gonna take away a lot of the frustration when dealing with Sombra now, but I also appreciate how none of Sombra's existing iconography and traits are being removed. She does the stealthy and the teleporty and the hacky, but now she has another new tool to tie it all together.

Ultimate Decades Challenge – 🐴Sombra🐎

Introducing Sombra the mare:

Naturally, when the Horse Ranch Expansion came out, I NEEDED it. I had already started my Ultimate Decades Challenge and was a couple years in… But with horses, it fit in very well with my Medieval gameplay!

Although I am not trying to be 100% historically accurate (and I am not a history buff), I felt it would be appropriate for my peasants to own one horse, perhaps gifted from one of their parents as a gift for Hugh and Bridget’s marriage. Also, I just want to incorporate the horse expansion into my game because…. HORSES, am I right? 💕 Anyway, instead of creating some in depth sort of story, I wanted to act as if Sombra had already been a part of their family and gave her and Hugh a small boost in their skills related to horse riding, endurance, temperament, etc.

So, without further ado…. this is Sombra! Traits: Mellow, Independent, Friendly Skills: Temperament (Level 4) – Endurance (Level 2)

Sombra is a gentle and beautiful white and chestnut pinto mare residing on The Stonewall Peasant Farm. Standing at 17.5 hands high, she is often used for travel purposes by Hugh, visiting various places in town and across the village and for the necessary tasks such as hunting and fishing that require more than just a walk on foot. Sombra’s role goes beyond mere transportation; she offers Hugh and Bridget companionship and a reliable partnership in their adventures.

With her striking coloration and distinct physical features, Sombra is truly a sight to behold. Her coat is a harmonious blend of white and chestnut, adorned with captivating patterns that catch the eye. In addition to her mesmerizing appearance, Sombra possesses a rich brown mane that Bridget often braids at the root down her neck, adding an extra touch of elegance to her already majestic presence.

While Sombra may not belong to the draft horse category, her size is larger than the average horse, lending her an impressive stature and a commanding presence. Her height and build make her well-suited for the various activities Hugh and she undertake together. Despite her substantial size, Sombra remains gentle and easygoing, displaying a calm and docile temperament that only enhances her appeal.

One can’t help but notice the similarities between Sombra and the renowned Gypsy Vanner breed. The feathered fetlocks that grace her powerful legs, along with her graceful movements, evoke the charm and allure associated with these magnificent horses. This resemblance adds an extra layer of fascination to Sombra’s unique character and physical attributes.

With her impressive size, captivating appearance, and gentle nature, Sombra embodies grace, beauty, and loyalty to her family.

the thing about spy tf2 is that i dont even want him to be buffed to viability. spy is a character where being cloaked and sneaking around is central to his kit and when youre in 6's that basically means you just have a guy on your team that is Wasting Time, sombra in overwatch has that same problem of downtime but she still had Glimpses in the spotlight because she could uncloak instantly and teleport away instantly and her ultimate literally Just Won Fights For Free, if thats any indication of what itd take to make him viable over a class like scout whos like I'm Fast And Have A Shotgun. but that being said.

i just really want valve to balance spy's unlocks to be more on equal footing or even just for some unlocks to HAVE an incentive to be used. like. l'enforcer, red tape recorder, spycicle. i wanna argue cloak and dagger but thats a whole other can of worms. why would you use any of these over stock revolver for consistency or l'etranger for the infinitely useful boon of More Cloak or diamondback which lets you just get free crits, why would you ever use the other knives over stock knife, with no downsides, or kunai, who's one big downside is more than made up for by its upside. Shit like spycicle and l'enforcer are just like, Literally Nothing, their upsides are infinitesimally small and their downsides just Suck. i just want lenforcer to be the gunspy gun that drains cloak like 50% faster but has a flat damage buff. i so desperately wish that they didn't leave tf2 to die in the state its in with so many unlocks just being like Meh

Hello shadowy alicorn girlboss?? I mean a villain was expected but an Alicorn villain is very interesting.

(also her little minion/companion unicorn was cute, love those curls)

So I've already seen someone try to bring up Radiant Hope from G4 as a possible connection especially with that weird "Sunny and her friends defeat Sombra and his Minions" line that was included in the product description of an official Alicorn Sunny plush.

While I've been hesitant to involve the crystal empire cause I feel like it's just too distant from Maretime Bay and this small part of Equestria we're now focused on, I'm kinda questioning things.

So here's my current theory: This Alicorn is a descendant of Flurry Heart OR a corrupted Flurry Heart. The former being more likely than the latter.

I genuinely don't want to believe Twilight mentored a future Alicorn to the throne, and the translucent Alicorn form Sunny has is my only backing here. However, Flurry Heart's existence in G4 proved that, miraculously, Alicorns can be naturally born. This genetic trait may now exist in the world of Equestria through Flurry's bloodline (kinda relating this to animus dragons in Wings of Fire tbh)

Taking back what's rightfully hers, the magic, seems to imply corruption occurred. Maybe Twilight and/or Flurry created the crystals to stop this Alicorn's evil plans and when it wasn't enough Twilight was forced to imbed their magic in them and scatter them throughout Equestria. This is plausible as it would be handled the same way the Twilight/Tirek fight was handled when the princesses gave up their magic to buff Twilight.
