astro's astronomical drabbles (2/?)
-. love bruise .- a bughead drabble
--- Jughead's eyes flutter open as his face twists up and he raises a hand to his face, rubbing his palm across his eyes. “Mmh..” Jug slowly raises himself up to a sit, looking around the room around him, soon realizing Betty is standing in front of the mirror in an oversized shirt and underwear, pulling her hand back to get a clearer look at her neck. “Jug?” She turned around to look at him, and she carried a slightly worried expression. “Hm.” He blinks, groggily responding to her. “Look!” She then hurries over to the side of the bed, showing him the deep purple hickey on her neck. “Oh. Did I do that?” Jug crooks a brow, holding back a mocking smirk as he hovers a hand over the ivory-skinned girl's neck, that has been love bruised. ---

Too early for Christmas? The Betty Cooper Cookies Paradox
Veronica’s annual Pembrooke Christmas Decoration Reveal has always been a source of great frustration for one Forsythe Pendleton Jones the third. Never have his principles been tested in such a savage way. After all, how can one mock the hostess’s extremely premature foray into the Christmas season (seriously though, who in their right mind starts decorating on the 2nd of November?!) when the buffet consists of Betty Cooper’s Very Best Selection of Christmas-themed Cookies?
There is a very small part in Jughead’s already sugar-addled brain that finds Betty’s amusement at his predicament suspicious but the shortbread Santas are melting in his mouth in the most delicious way demanding his full attention. He can get to the bottom of this later. To eat intelligently is an art form after all, and he is nothing if not an intelligent eater. Jughead makes sure to wiggle his eyebrows at Betty next time he licks his lips.

Well, I didn’t cry that Riverdale ended but I’m not going to lie, I just teared up at your ‘closed’ sign. I have followed you since Pieces of my Heart, I’ve read every fic at least 10 times, I’m always on your blog in case you post something. Riverdale is over now and I think that just means the Bughead fandom is now free to create in any way they want and make our own worlds and canon events. Well, we sort of do that already but you understand. We’re free from the bullshit that was Riverdale and we can bask in the beauty of the freedom we now have. Please dont go. Even if you stop by and drop a tiny one shot or Drabble once in a while. Please don’t let your Bughead magic die. I BEGGING you. You’ve saved my sanity the last seven years and I don’t know what I’ll do without you 😢.
Oh 😢 don’t do this to me… I will leave you with this… one never knows if a gift will present itself ❤️

betty’s chest was tight when she had opened the front door to see jughead stood there, and she didn’t even have to say anything for him to understand what had her so worked up. even from the front door it was easy to hear her parents arguing in the kitchen, and as their voices raised betty visibly flinched and clenched her teeth.
jughead had never seen how bad her family was, she didn’t want him to. they hadn’t been dating for long, and betty knew he had more than enough on his plate. but they had been arguing all day to the point where anytime one of them raised their voice she flinched and had the urge to cover her ears, and she knew jughead was only across the street and at archie’s, so in a panic she had text him to come and get her. she needed to get out of the house.
“okay, come on.” jughead reached to gently grab her hand, and her hand was tight around his as he pulled her through the door and shut it behind her. she shook as they walked down the porch steps, and her waterline burned with tears as she walked alongside her boyfriend, not speaking for a moment.
she knew he understood exactly what she was feeling. jughead hadn’t had the best home life, and he wasn’t a stranger to parents arguing. the only difference was he had a sister that was there with him; betty didn’t have polly anymore. it would be easier if her sister was there, she could handle it.
her hand trembled in his as they walked down the street, not a set destination in mind, and when she sniffled through the oncoming tears she felt him pull her closer into himself, letting go of her hand to move an arm around her waist.
“take a deep breath, betty.” jughead mumbled beside her, and she did as she was told; inhaling shakily as the tears started dripping down her cheeks.
she did it a few times, inhaling deeply through the tightness of her chest and her shaking limbs, though it didn’t stop the tears that formed in her eyes at just the thought of her parents at each other’s throats. they had always argued on and off, but the blonde couldn’t remember the last time that it was that bad. not since polly had left.
she hadn’t been paying attention to where jughead was leading her, too focused on trying to calm down, but she looked up at him once he had stopped and realised they were at the park. it was always empty in the evenings, which at least gave them some privacy. they were tucked behind a tree that stopped anybody from outside the park seeing them, and it allowed betty to be fully vulnerable to jughead when he pulled her into a hug.
she sniffled as she held onto him, still shaking as she gripped onto his denim jacket. he tucked her head underneath his chin, and for a moment he simply just held her and let her cry. he was warm and comforting, and she gripped onto him even tighter when she had cried. it wasn’t for long, but it was tears that she had needed to get out all day.
“i’m so sorry, betty.” jughead mumbled into her hair, and she took in another deep breath as she nodded.
“they’ve-“ she hiccuped. “they haven’t been this bad in a long while.”
she felt him nod against her head, and he sighed as he pressed a kiss to her temple. “why don’t you go and stay with veronica for a night or two until they cool off a bit?” he asked gently. “i’d offer, but..” he trailed off with a sigh, and betty frowned.
“i know, i know i’m sorry jug, i shouldn’t be bothering you with this when you’re already-“
jughead cut her off by leaning back from the hug to kiss her, one of his hands against her cheek to hold her close. he kissed her for a long moment, letting his thumb stroke her cheek until her grip on his jacket had loosened and she seemed to relax slightly, before he leaned back to look at her.
“you’re not bothering me, okay?” he asked softly, and betty nodded a little as she sighed. “you never could. i just want to make sure you’re okay.”
betty hugged him again, and she relaxed into his embrace as his palm gently moved along her back. “thank you for coming out with me.” she mumbled into his chest, and allowed a small smile when he kissed the top of her head.
“it’s no problem,” jughead whispered. “like i said, i just want to make sure you’re okay. i’ll always be there when you need me, okay?”
betty nodded and felt another kiss to the top of her head as he held her tighter against himself, in absolutely no rush to leave and get back home.

Bughead & Friends Drabble Challenge, Day 1 | Prompt #1: Mind Reader
Tumblr media
“Get out of my head, Jughead!”
“I’m not in your head!”
“Well then, stop thinking so loud!”
Jughead suddenly grabbed Betty by the arm and dragged her into the Blue and Gold, shoving her inside and locking the door behind them.
You ASSHOLE! she thought with a scowl.
“I heard that!” Jughead snapped.
Betty placed her hands on her hips, staring at him through narrowed eyes. “And you say you’re not in my head.”
“It’s not intentional!” Jughead groaned and pulled at his beanie, dragging it down over his face until it came off completely. “Do you have any idea how hard it is to focus with your thoughts in my head?!” He threw his beanie on the floor. “Impossible! I can’t do a damn thing because you have no off switch!”
“Me?” Betty turned on him furiously, now. “What about you? Half the time you’re thinking about food and the other half you’re pissed off—at me!”
He rolled his eyes, and she heard him think, She clearly sucks at interpreting emotions, because she still doesn’t get it.
“What the hell?” She threw her hands up in frustration, marching right up into his personal space. “What aren’t I getting? Why won’t you just tell me?”
“You wanna know?” he said heatedly. “You really want to know?”
“Yes!” Betty exclaimed, and that’s when he took a few calculated steps forward, mere inches separating them now.  She swallowed, suddenly nervous by the lack of distance between them, and looked up to lock eyes with his.
I’m not mad at you, she heard him think.
I’m mad because I’m thinking about you—all the fucking time.
I’m mad because I want you, but most of all—I’m mad because I can’t have you.

Bughead and Friends Drabble Challenge, May 2020
Tumblr media
Day 4 / Prompt 2: Suitor
@bugheaddrabblechallenge
[definitely more than 100 words but who’s surprised at this point?]
“Elizabeth!  Archie is here!”
Betty sprinted down the stairs in a pair of black leggings and a pastel pink shirtdress.  Her grey and pink backpack swung loosely on her shoulders as she struggled to pull on her white converse, each step making it a little more difficult.
She could have put them on upstairs and saved herself the hassle, but what was the fun in that?
Her mother eyed her backpack and placed her hands on her hips.  “I thought you were going on a date with Archie.  What could you possibly need your backpack for?”
“I am going on a date, mom.  A study date.”  Betty rolled her eyes as she reached the door.  She swung the door open, catching a glimpse of the red headed dork who sat in the front seat of his fathers truck as it idled at their curb.  “Don’t wait up, we’ll probably catch a movie afterwards.”
Alice sighed and nodded.  “Well, at least I can trust him.”
Betty nodded and shut the door, darting to the truck with an ever growing smirk on her face.  She whirled the door open and threw her backpack into the middle seat before climbing in herself.  Archie didn’t wait for her to buckle -- he put the truck into gear and started down the road.
As soon as her house was out of view, she pulled the shirtdress over her shoulders, revealing a emerald green tank top with a sweetheart neckline.  As she shoved the dress into her backpack and pulled her hair from its ponytail, she looked to Archie apologetically.  “Sorry I was running behind.  I couldn’t find this top anywhere and I was worried Polly stole it before she moved.”
Archie chuckled and shrugged his shoulders.  “What’s the plan tonight?”
“Probably going to catch a movie at the Bijou, but we’ll probably spend most of our time at the trailer.”  Betty zipped her backpack up and adjusted the strap of her tank.  “You?”
“They’re showing Breakfast at Tiffany’s at the drive in, so...”
Betty clapped her hands together excitedly.  “That’s Veronica’s favorite!”
“Yeah, that’s what it sounded like.”  Archie smiled.  “So, same place, same time?”
“Yep.  Jug and I will meet you and Veronica at Pops around eleven, and then I’ll ride home with you, just like we’ve been doing for eight months.”
They both shared a laugh as they neared Sunnyside Trailer Park.
“Tell me again why we’ve been lying to your mom about us dating for eight months.”
“Because, Archibald, haven’t you heard?”  Betty looked up at Archie with a smirk as she gathered her belongings, the car coming to a halt in front of an all-too familiar trailer.  “My mom thinks you’re just the perfect suitor for her dear Elizabeth Cooper.”
With that, she opened the truck door and jumped out.  “See you at eleven, Arch!”  She called out as she skipped towards the front door of Jughead’s trailer.  In the open doorway, a handsome boy with a crown knit beanie leaned against the doorway, and when he smiled, Betty wondered how her mother could think anyone else was more perfect for her than Jughead Jones.

I kind of did it? Bughead deserves better but here are my attempts!
Something Sweet
“Can I have a kiss?”
Their friends shoot him a bewildered look. Betty’s lips curl into a smile.
“Ah, Hershey’s, I meant.”
They’d been doing so well with the nonverbal communication that he hadn’t considered other people needing clarification. One eyebrow wiggle or nose touch and Betty would be biting down a grin, totally on the same page as him.
Ever an angel, she hands him the whole bowl of assorted chocolates, cuddling closer into his side as their friends resume watching The Matchelor.
“Can I have a kiss?” she whispers, batting her eyelashes.
As if she needed to ask.
Unexpected Interruption
Brandishing her brush like a weapon, Betty looks bewildered by his presence in her pastel haven. “What?”
“I’m here to offer my escort services.” He clears his throat, still smiling and stupid from the visual of her bouncing around her room, lip syncing into a hair brush while her cheer skirt flared around her thighs. He wants her to sit on his face but hasn’t figured out how close they are, yet.
“When did this happen?” she asks, gobsmacked by his motorcycle out front.
“There’s a lot you don’t know about me, Betts.”
“That sounds like a challenge.”
It is.
Paper in the Pocket
Every fold makes her feel important and anxious. She tries not to bite her lip as she moves the cootie catcher with each selection, counting the letters and pulling open the flaps.
Detective. 2 kids. Jughead.
“You should try again,” Kevin urges, Ethel nodding.
“No, thanks.”
She draws a heart around her future life in pink gel pen and folds it carefully into her pocket for safekeeping. Curious if it really works, she makes Jughead a version, but he refuses to play. “I choose my own fate.”
“So did I,” she protests, unfolding the now-sweaty bit of paper. “Do you want me to play again?”
His eyes look watery as he shakes his head. “Gel pen is permanent. Guess you’re stuck with me, Betts.”

Bughead Drabble Challenge Day #1
On Tuesday, the air conditioning went out. Opening the windows only did so much when it was 90° and climbing by 8am.
By Thursday, they had decided that running the fans was only somehow making the apartment hotter. That expensive Dyson she'd insisted on adding to their wedding registry only seemed to push out hot air instead of circulating cooler air.
And that is why, when Jughead Jones returned home from work on Friday afternoon, he found his wife, almost 8 months pregnant and standing in front of the open freezer, blasting herself with cool air while wearing only a matching lace bra and underwear set.

astro's astronomical drabbles (1/?)
-. "small talk" .- a bughead drabble
--- “ Woe, destruction, ruin, and decay; The worst is death, and death will have his day.” Jughead spoke almost scholarly and slumped backward into the diner booth and crossed an arm over himself, as he popped a french fry into his mouth. “Bleak, right?” He raised a brow at Betty sitting just in front of him briefly with a subtle smirk. “And that's..?” Betty tilts her head as she sips her milkshake. “Shakespear.” He nods, sitting up correctly to sip his own milkshake. “I’ll never know how you remember all that.” Betty shrugs with a grin. Jughead blinked. “You can never really understand something fully if you only read it once.” He hums, as he munches down on a duo of fries. “You’re so cute when you get smart.” She smiles as she rests both elbows on the table as she lovingly gazes at her significant other. --

Bughead & Friends Drabble Challenge | Day 3
Prompt: Not What It Looks Like! Optional Genre: Romantic Comedy
Tumblr media
Fuck, I could’ve sworn there was a towel, here!  Betty let out a frustrated groan as she stepped out of the shower, realizing what she had to do.
She cracked the bathroom door open, eyeing her room at the very end of the hall. Sounds pretty quiet, she thought as she listened.  I could totally make it! So she took a deep breath, and sprinted out as fast as she could.
And she almost made it, too, if it weren’t for Jughead.
She was moving too fast to register his door opening. The moment he stepped out into the hall, towel wrapped around his waist, she tried so desperately to stop.  But her wet feet just slipped across the wooden flooring and she slammed right into him.
They went down in a tangled, naked mess—him losing his towel in the process, and her landing right on top of him.
“OH MY GOD!” they both screamed.
“Why are you naked?!” she yelled, while he shouted, “Why are you wet?!”
“I forgot a towel!” She scrambled off of him, and tried to cover her body. “Stop looking at me! Why the hell are you naked?”
“Well, I had a towel!” Jughead had covered his eyes but couldn’t help laughing.
“Why are you laughing?!  And oh god, you’re showing everything—please cover it up!”
Jughead laughed harder, blindly reaching for his towel. “If you wanted to see it, you could’ve just asked—you didn’t have to jump me.”
“I didn’t—”
“B?!”  They both looked up to see Veronica appear at the top of the stairs, quickly turning away to cover her face.  “Oh my god—my eyes, my eyes!”
“No, no, no—V,” Betty stammered, “this is not what it looks like!”
“Yeah it is,” Jughead smirked from the ground. “Betty jumped me.”
(bonus question: what romcom does this sound like?)

Bughead and Friends Drabble Challenge, May 2020
Tumblr media
Day 3 / Prompt 2: “Floral Arrangement”
Optional Genre: Romantic Comedy (I really tried to make it funny but that probably didn’t work lol)
[this is way more than 100 words, sorry!!!]
@bugheaddrabblechallenge
Betty stared down at the array of sunrise themed carnations, lilies, and dragon's breath that seemed to light up her otherwise drab doormat.  Light pinks, bright yellows, and golden oranges blended together in a way that made Betty feel like she was staring at the morning sky, and if she knew any better, she would have smiled.
Okay, so she would definitely smile later after she’d brought the arrangement into her kitchen and she was within the privacy of her own home, where no one -- especially not her all-too cocky neighbor -- could see how giddy she was feeling.
She heard the neighboring door open and green eyes met icy blue ones.
He wore his normal attire: some worn jeans, a plain t-shirt, boots, and a crown shaped knit beanie that she’d never seen him without.  He was attractive as hell, with a perfectly set jawline and hair that fell in thick black locks from under his beanie; but she would never say that out loud.
His tattered tote bag was slung over his shoulder, signaling that he was leaving for class, and if Betty knew correctly, he was running a bit late.  Having your neighbors class schedule memorized was totally normal, and not at all a sign of a giant crush.  That’s what she told herself at least.
A smirk grew across his face and his eyes lit up.  Betty rolled her eyes so hard that if her mother were there, she’d say “roll your eyes that hard again and they’ll roll right off your face, Elizabeth!”.
“When are you going to stop sending me these stupid things?”  Betty motioned to the floral arrangement, maybe a little too dramatically.
“I already told you this, Betts,”  He shrugged his shoulders casually, and Betty couldn’t help but watch as the fabric lifted just slightly over his abdomen, revealing the top of a slight V that ended somewhere under his jeans.  “I’ll stop sending them when you agree to go on a date with me.”
“Not happening, Jones.”  Her voice was less than convincing, and she silently cursed herself for it.
Jughead started to walk towards the elevator, and Betty thought that maybe she’d gotten lucky and he hadn’t caught on.
But then he turned his head back towards her, something dangerously delicious flashing through his eyes, and said, “Friday at six.  Wear something yellow, I like that color on you.”
“In your dreams.”  She muttered, but as she picked up the arrangement and stumbled back into her apartment, she was already thinking about the pretty yellow dress that hung in the back of her closet.
