Thyneron and the Emperor have dramatically different outlooks on money and finances. I would not exactly call Balduran "self-made" since it's highly implied that much of his financial acquisitions were questionable at best, and outright theft, extortion, and exploitation at worst, but at the end of the day, he did still acquire his own money, no matter how illicitly.

On the other hand, Thyneron was born with a gem encrusted silver spoon in the mouth. Money means nothing to Thyneron in the way that money means nothing to all immensely wealthy people, in that it's been a permanent fixture in the background of his life. He has no more regard for money than he does for the lavishly expensive rugs under his feet. It is simply there, because it has always been there, and presumably always will be there.

At the same time, the Emperor is completely unconstrained by perceptions of wealth. I believe it has a certain taste for fine things, but it dresses and lives simply, and is more invested in the love of the game of acquisition. I think to the Emperor (and Balduran before that), amassing wealth was like a game, with only marginally higher stakes than dice or cards.

Meanwhile, Thyneron dresses in clothes he dislikes, associates with people he disdains even more, and is constantly buried in a mountain of self-hatred because he feels compelled to keep the rigid standards of the Upper City for the sake of his family and business. If he had it his way, he'd wear simple tunics and trousers and never go to a damned ball, feast, gala, or party ever again.

I always enjoy thinking of what money means to various people, especially two that embody separate sides of the same coin (ha) the way that these two do.

Oh, this never ending debate.

When I first got into BL these two confused and confounded me for months. It always seemed like people were either very strict and defensive truthers or pessimistic deniers.

Honestly, I went back and forth several times on them, and I think what I have come to conclude is that they're both and neither and whatever the hell they want.

Because due to the parasocial aspects of the Thai bl industry these men (Thai bl men in general) play a version of themselves in public, the same way most people do. Only their public persona is what makes them marketable. It's part of their brand.

That doesn't mean there isn't truth to it.

Fanservice and genuine affection do not exist in vacuums separate from one another. Real life relationships are way more fluid and complicated than black and white.

There are things they do that seem very performative, but I have to wonder if maybe that's just part of their personality and relationship in general. But obviously it is also, at least partly, for the fans. As it is their brand. But again, that's something that doesn't exist in a vacuum.

In a classic, western sense they haven't officially actually come out but rather were like "you can think whatever you want."

(I think this might have changed recently with the language they've been using but I'm not 100% sure due to fan translations being subjective. But like, I'm pretty sure they've said recently in an interview they basically date at work.)

At some point (especially in the past few weeks)I've legitimately just started feeling like a homophobic crone for thinking it was ALL for fan service. Like, those two clearly are very important to each other. They clearly love each other in some way.

It's so interesting because like, in a way these shipped pairs are living their own fake dating au's. And I fully believe there are some people who just committed to the bit to the degree that it no longer became a bit, and I'm pretty sure that's zeenunew.

You can see their relationship change over the years. I don't doubt there was fan service in the cutie pie era. I also don't doubt that those big sappy displays of affection are sincere.

So i used to put them in the category of "shrodinger's ships." They were both together and not until proven otherwise.

But recently I've shifted them into the category of "committed to the bit too hard and now it is no longer a bit."

Because I think it's both fan service and legit, and like, that's just how they roll. If it is an entirely false charade they've been on for years then consider me bamboozled and in awe of their hustle, but in this economy we take all the serotonin we can get.

Also, like, regardless of any outside perspective of their relationship, their personal relationship is going to be what it is or isn't either way. What are we gonna do about it by arguing over semantics and technicalities? What would they get? Nothing. We have literally no stake in this and no influence.

I feel like a lot of the time when I'm into (apparently) Controversial Ships I just… can't bring myself to care anymore. And it's annoying when people who are nominally posting about My Thing from a sympathetic point of view are also constantly talking about how random third parties think it's gross and nasty and immoral. Ah. Lord, NGE. The vagueness of its worldbuilding, the psychological aspects, the occult and religious simbology, and the GODDAMN MUSIC. If you like classical, epic and otherwordly music, I beg you to check out NGE's score even if you're not interested in the anime itself because Shiro Sagisu is a gift from the gods and one of the best composers of our time. The series is a masterpiece. People despise the movies but IMO they do exactly what a movie should do: entertain. Anno embraced the "I'll be cringe, but I'll be free" and went all out on them, as he should have. Also, there's Kaworu Nagisa. Look at him!

Steins;Gate

PLEASE. PLEASE DO AND DON'T DO THIS TO YOURSELF AT THE SAME TIME. I WAS NOT READY. This anime will take your heart, embrace it, warm it up, GRIP IT IN ITS HANDS, CHEW IT AND SPIT IT OUT. Admittedly I played the VN because I wanted to experience all endings and OH MY GOD. It's terrifying and emotionally damaging. I started playing the sequel (Steins;Gate 0) and I had to STOP because it's so gut-wrenching in all the good ways that I need to be in the right spot for it.

Bleach

talk about recent experiences. I live under a rock when it comes to popular anime most times, and I never had the occasion to watch Bleach until recently (still haven't technically finished it because I'm waiting for TYBW to finish releasing to watch it). I... don't know what it is about Bleach that I like so much, but it got me in a similar way to KHR, as in I think about it often against my will and I'm even considering creating an OC for it. I think it's the characters, because the story is pretty straightforward... yeah, yeah it's the fictional men again. Kubo makes handsome men who fight with swords and transformation and everyone has their own powerups and...hhhngh. Look at this batch of cookies.

I'm not a science brain, totally the opposite. Math doesn't math, geometry is evil and chemistry is wizardry. BUT, I love things that TRY to teach me those things in a funny and accessible way. I still won't understand them, but it was fun trying! And Dr. Stone has that, it's the moment I realize I like it when things are explained to me in that way, especially through media. Plus, fun characters, emotional moments, and cool plot.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn

Fortunately or unfortunately depending on your opinion on the show, KHR was the first ever japanese piece of media (excluding videogames) I've ever consumed. Being a lonely and socially awkward human being, it soon became my personality. It was these fuckers who made me get into manga altogether, I started buying the volumes (but only up to Varia Arc because 1. I didn't have an allowance, everything was done with Christmas/Easter/birthday money and 2. I was so obsessed with the Varia that my goldfish brain lost interest mid Future Arc.) and from there I discovered the pleasure of physical copies. The show has never aired in Italy, so nobody knew what the fuck I was talking about. It was, as many others were for me, a very lonely experience. But it was also the first time I felt... unique? Like, "this is my special little treasure and nobody can take it from me" kinda thing. I was emotionally invested in this show and every small piece of merch I could find like my Varia character songs CD became some of my most prized possessions (UNTIL I STARTED GIFTING AWAY MY SET OF VONGOLA RINGS BECAUSE I WANTED TO BRIBE PEOPLE INTO LIKING THE SHOW) (YEAH THAT WAS. STUPID. BECAUSE IT OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T WORK. AND ONLY MADE ME FEEL MORE LONELY AND RINGLESS) Then, the falling off. I started playing an MMO that also shaped part of my personality and as you often do with things that remind you of lonelier times, I sold my volumes and stopped thinking of KHR... until recently, when I joined this fandom and the spark came back because fuck it I'll be cringe but I'll be free. I got my fair share of flack for hyperfixating on an old anime at 24 years old, but it's one of the best experiences I've ever had. So yeah. KHR was ultimately good for me.

Now, being able to talk to Druvis III herself, she decided not to immediately ask, but instead to just get to know her.

Druvis, meanwhile, is surprised NewBabel is a CEO with a brain in her skull.

The two had tea, and the original plan slipped her mind.

Before I begin, I'd love to imagine Ms Newbabel struggling to write Druvis' last name and having to ask her directly before writing her a card. Weyerhaeuser, what a name.

Just two business women - although one is from a fallen family and the other is a successful business owner - hanging out and having tea, what's the fuss?

I think it would be great for Druvis to have a friend like Ms. Newbabel, after all she did kind of fall into depression after everything that happened and didn't continue with business.

Ms Newbabel would try to introduce Druvis to business again, slowly of course. They'd become good friends by the time this has been brought up, and they actually seem to have enough things in common.

Druvis would dress up the critters for adoption and help Newbabel with some designs, after all she is a very floral and natural person, something that goes very well with Newbabel's critter business.

They'd be that kind of woman you'd expect to be gossiping, those in series that sit together drinking tea and talking shit, but nope! They're complimenting the place, the environment, and the tea. They're very wholesome.

Please BluePoch I beg you to let out Druvis of whatever basement you have her in (alongside Click and Horropedia) I miss her 😭
