Been wanting to practice Anatomy a bit more in depth - it's something that I know, but then get lazy on and a refresher can help immensely. Recently bought a book by Rockhe Kim, that's just fantastic to go through, and spending time in this sketchbook to go through everything they're talking about.

Trying also to practice brush pen while studying, so the sections I "know" now also become "how can I get better line quality", where having that sort of distraction can help push through the study itself. Because it's honestly very hard to break past that barrier somedays and work to just be humble bringing in new information. Hell, I even dropped out of art college 10+ years ago for that very reason - something seemed simple to me so I didn't put the work in, and then it became overwhelming way too fast.

And who knows, sometimes you'll surprise yourself with new information if you go and try practicing fundamentals again that you haven't thought of in awhile.

Not sponsored or anything - I just think this book is really damn neat. Anyone looking to do more anatomy practice - I'd highly recommend it. It goes over potential mistakes artists can make too, but in a way that is very respectful when it comes to examples. A lot of times art books or teachers can be demeaning without even meaning it.

The book does share a lot of differences between Male/Female forms, but personally I'm a defender of that while also understanding all the flaws that comes with it. Often times practicing male vs female bodies is how you first encounter body differences visually to practice different forms. I choose to take it as a starting place, that you then can use to see how a body can differ and make it your own where the lesson isn't just contained in the book but then grows over time.

I am not either body type represented in this book, but that doesn't diminish the knowledge presented. And honestly, how am I going to draw some of my favorite male characters if I don't practice a more feminine form? Or some of my favorite women who have a more masculine frame? If nothing else, they seem to be more respectful when showing the differences, and go super in depth not just for how they may look at a front view, but how it translates across all sorts of movements and perspectives.

Chuck, how do you deal with people who are rude about you and your work? I write queer romance and I want to put my writing out there for people to read, but I'm a very sensitive person and I know it will be hard not to take insults personally and let them affect me. I don't want to let that stop me from expressing myself and sharing my art, but I'm scared!

very good question buckaroo. i am a good example of this as pretty much EVERYONE was rude about my work for many years calling it 'so bad its good' (it is just good) and 'terrible photoshop' (i think it has a great and instantly recognizable style) and 'intentionally stupid premises' (i dont think there is anything stupid about sex being fun and whimsical and playful). even these days the reaction of the VAST majority of buckaroos who discover chuck have this reaction AT FIRST, and then learn to appreciate the tingleverse in a more sincere way over time.

all that is to say BEING DOUBTED HAS WORKED OUT VERY WELL FOR ME. art that changes meaning over time can be very powerful, so if someones initial reaction to my trot is one thing and then it evolves into another thing, well that is just good art. while it can feel bad to get a bad review, i would say a bad review just means you have entered a realm of tension and change and discord and WE ARE TALKIN ABOUT ART BUD so that, in itself, is very exciting.

i think of what i do as 'punk writing', and a big part of that means pushing against preconceived sensibilities. not many other authors will proudly say 'there SHOULD be some spelling errors in my erotic shorts because i wrote it in a day and edited it once. that is the FEELING i want to create', but that is my way. by creating what is in my soul i KNOW i am going to bother some buckaroos and that is okay.

now i am NOT assuming you are also doing punk writing (that is okay of course we all have our own styles. what i am doing with tinglers is pretty rare), but it still stands to remember that there are 7.8 billion people on the planet of this dang timeline and some of them are bound to be bothered by your creations. that is not a problem, that is just part of baring your authentic self.

the other thing to remember is theres no REAL right or wrong in art. it can be analyzed in different ways and i tend to look at it in a way of comparing intention to result, but even THAT is not strictly correct. therefore any bad review of something you make is not actually BAD it is just someones information and feedback for you to take or leave. a one star review is just another opinion, it is no more right or wrong than your own opinion, and that is wonderful. it is freeing.

if i see a bad review of my own book, lets just say CAMP DAMASCUS for instance, i do not get upset because i know this: that reviewer is not wrong. camp damascus is five stars for me, but it is one star for someone else AND THAT IS OK. THAT IS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. THAT IS GREAT ART. also MAYBE THEY KNOW BETTER THAN I DO. just because i wrote the book does not mean i am the authority on it, and the conversation and tension between those that enjoy something and those that despise it is a creative act. the audience engaging with your work is just your art emerging from its cocoon and saying 'here i am. lets see where i flutter off to now'

do not fear the river of this timeline sweeping away your creations and carrying them where it will. this is inevitable, but it is also beautiful and freeing. you cannot swim against it and that is okay bud, because YOU HAVE ALREADY WON. you have already created something and given a piece of yourself back to this timeline and that is a great honor and privilege. it is literally all there is

I think the things that offend me most nowadays in like, smaller interpersonal interactions rather than grand, sweeping trends in culture, are when people chose to not partake in a wide set of things. Like musical close mindedness, or refusal to try different foods from different cultures. Not watching an entire subset of films bc they’re ‘french’. And nothings wrong with hopping onto a trend. You read Dracula bc of that Dracula daily thing. Cool! Read more. Some people will say they’re chronically ill or disabled and can’t get outside. That’s okay. The internet is full of things you can read other than fanfiction, YouTube has a shit ton of free music. There’s Wikipedia and free articles online if you have questions about things. Yeah nobody is spending four hours a day looking at the national archives website and studying art history but it’s imbued in the things around you, and youll absorb it ambiently as you go along. you dont have to be a jack of all trades and cover every major genre of every major medium, but it never hurts to try! I really love seeing ppl ask too. Bc it can be kind of humiliating to admit to what seems like some jackass hipster that you’ve never delved into, idk, Serbian films (lol not that one). And hopefully if whoever you’re asking will give you honest good recommendations and not berate you. I’m kind of berate a straw man rn I guess. he pulls back. starts to pull out of the driveway. you say, "thank you." a full minute later, your voice small and soft.

he doesn't look your way. thats okay. you can watch his hands on the steering wheel all you want this way. the smooth glide of his palm over the wheel when he makes a turn. the idle rub of his thumb over it when hes going steady.

"how wasted are you?" he asks eventually.

you take a moment to think. try to count the alphabet backwards... yeah, no.

"pretty wstd..." you mumble. then you giggle. "wasted." you sound out the word.

patrick breathes deeply like he's purposely staying calm. "jesus." he looks at you again, a quick up and down assessment. "art cant see you like this. he'll lose his shit."

- ship wars/discourse suck ass. if its not a proship its fine, if someone has a different ship than you or interprets a ship differently you dont have to fight with them.

- your ocs are the best thing on this planet and you should share them

- your oc x canon is so wonderful and lovely and you should share it

- the ocs you created to be family members of other characters are awesome and you should share them

- your headcanons and interpretations of characters are awesome and you should share them

- be nice to others. support their art, their stories, their ocs and headcanons and ships, even if you arent very interested in them. stay curious!! ask about peoples ideas, because most of the time they want to share just as much as you do

- if other people have different interpretations or ideas, you dont have to agree or disagree with them. its okay to appreciate others opinions without telling them that theyre wrong

she always likes to hear them, because not only is it sentimental and intimate to her, she loves to have somebody who acts or thinks a little like her, so maybe the more twisted / odder the flirting, she feels secure and that she understands you

she wants to say some to you to see how you react, ahe loves i serving you when it happens and laughing, then hugging you

he says them back witty, but he loves to tease you about it, making them in snarky tones and drawn out phrases

he thinks of them a lot in his free time, analyzing them deeper than anybody else would think of it, because while he agrees theres a closeness to it, he wants to know why

will write down every one you say, for multiple reasons

your compliments give him ideas on his art, specifically the human-genre work of his, but when he thinks of you while carving and cutting hes never been more at peace

asks you about them at night so he can laugh while youre dozing off in his chest

most likely began when you two were awake late in the night because you couldnt sleep, and some rare sweet talk was going on before you said it

he doesnt quite get it, but since he doesnt recieve compliments a lot, he doesnt think too much of it

he thinks of it along side his favor of killing, so in a way he can see the gorier side of it, and since he doesnt see anything wrong with that, he doesnt mind your flirting

he imagines what you said as hes on one of his sprees, he thinks your mind is excellent because hes never had as much fun without your ideas like that

he probably tries to think about the deeper meaning behind it, reflecting it in his art, and giving it to you to show his form of endearment

hes not really capable of reproducing flirtation it to you, since be doesnt have a good idea of it, but he has his own ways of loving you back

he'll tap you with his knife to get your attention when these start up, maybe tapping your heart lightly with the tip of it when you turn to look at him

will 100% hold you so youll stay in place, its his version if quality time, he grasps your side firmly and stares in silence, he thinks its endearing

guides you by the shoulders to take you somewhere

he is EXCITED when you say it, hes definitely thought of flirting like that but has never been able to put it into words

competitions come up with who can come up with more, its his favorite activity, he loves to test and play with you

new things to the relationship make him so happy, so this is oerfect

whenever you say these things to him, its like his hyperactivity shoots up

your sincerity is near and dear to his heart, he craves it now, he loves when you supply it

overall this only closens the relationship and makes him feel more comfortable, you inspire him and hes overjoyed, this is his pride and joy

normally he'd be the king of saying the most outrageous shit possible, he loves to catch people off guard and make you have to pause before you say anything

so when you say say something about how you wanna live in his ribcage, bro looks at you for a good minute with this face: 😲

he laughs hysterically while being confused, because you just outwitted him

he likes to mess with billy and everybody else about it, crediting you as the 'founder' of it while shaking you by your shoulders

he likes to write down new ideas and recite them back to you, having eachother rate the newest ones you think of

if were being real, he probably takes some ideas from his killing onto these so they can be more intimate, hes a creative man who sees opportunity in every corner

because its in the gag-business, he deep dives and makes a fake analysis of 'what makes these compliments better than the rest' and presents it to you

everytime you say another one he does have to pause to think about it, hes a goofy little guy but these comments are more complicated so give the fella some time to realize what you said

UHH i mean... i guess it's always had a bit of darkness at the corners? pom is a monster in this au. she's a wraith. she was not born with empathy or kindness.
