I have this thought for quite some time, coming mostly from my twitter and Reddit interactions.

I kinda love the amount of hate I see towards Buggy. People hate how Oda loves this clown and keeps bringing him up, how he is getting more connections to story, how he gets that high bounty. They hate him because he doesn’t have powers, or isn’t smart.

And the fact that so many of them try to cope by putting Mihawk in place of Buggy is incredible. Mihawk is not some lost friend who is having insanely deep contention to shanks, BUGGY IS.

But I guess he’s not “cool and powerful” enough and they don’t get why shanks could be friends with “someone like that” (actual take I saw a lot).

I can’t wait for buggy to be more important just to see everyone lose their minds. If he gets to laugh tale, the best day of my life. And I’m not even that big on Buggy

These takes make me so angry because they're just??? Not true at all??? Most of these opinions come from the general audience and dudebros who don't take the time to analyze Buggy and just accept his character the way other characters see him. Instead of stopping for a second and thinking about why he does what he does and why Oda likes him so much, they just assume he's the lame clown everyone in the OP world thinks he is. Which is, in my opinion, extremely sad. And you don't even have to analyze shit?? Like, okay, I get it. Chapter 1082 is crucial for his character and perhaps if you don't read that you might think he's useless and Oda uses him too much for what he actually does for the story (bullshit, by the way, I'm just trying to find a reasoning behind their shitty takes). But after reading 1082??????????? Okay???? Whatever. Buggy haters get on my nerves, not because they don't like Buggy, but because they don't understand him.

Saying Buggy isn't smart is uhhh. It's just not true. The fact that he's constantly placed next to the biggest, most feared, and strategic pirates in the world just doesn't help him at all to prove that, tbh. I'd be scared af if I had gone through all the things he has, honestly. Like- People- People just ignore Water 7 and the whole thing with Usopp being a coward but wanting to be more than that because of his dream and that being scared doesn't necessarily mean something bad??? I think people just forget entire arcs and scenes to post these things. Buggy might not be the bravest but he understands the pirate world better than anybody and he's genuinely smart, he's just constantly placed in situations that force his character to be scared af (for obvious reasons) and everyone looks down on him for that. Which makes total sense for his character because his whole thing is feeling inferior and being compared to others when he has many talents himself. He isn't dumb, he just has the worst luck in the whole fucking world. Or the best. It sort of depends.

I think he lost his bravery and sense of adventure when he gave up on his dream, but now that he's being more confident in the fact that he could achieve it, we will see him using his full potential. And I am so, so excited for that. The speech he gives in chapter 1082 changed my life and it's easily my favorite chapter from the whole manga. I really, really hope they do something with that. I want him to have all the wonderful scenes he deserves.

And, okay, about the Mihawk thing: I don't agree with that that much? Like, okay, I can see people often making Mishanks relationship more than what it actually is, but tbf, Mihawk is barely a character here because Oda hasn't given him screentime of his own. He's always there for another character (Shanks, Zoro, Cross guild, etc). What we do know about him is that he went all his way to find Shanks and tell him about Luffy?? Like. Okay, babe, I know what you are. What we do know is that Shanks and him have something going on and I would really like to know WHAT exactly. I'm not even a huge Mishanks shipper but I completely understand why people like it. I prefer other ships like Shuggy and Cross Guild but, well, I don't think they use Mihawk to take over Buggy's place. I think they just want Mihawk to have some story because Oda barely gives him one. But I can see where you're coming from, though. I can see a lot of people using Shuggy's dynamic for them sometimes and it bothers me because these two have their own thing and they could easily just?? Ship both things??

People saying they don't understand why Shanks would be friends with somebody like Buggy is so funny to me, because we barely know anything about Shanks either, lmfao. He's the cool and powerful role model of the main character. He's literally the most cliché thing in the whole wide world, shut up. And I absolutely love him and he has wayyy more personality than these types of characters usually have, but I am tired of seeing takes like this as if Buggy wasn't one of the most interesting characters in this manga. But, also, Shanks would just?? Kick these people's asses for this shit. Saying you don't understand why Shanks would be friends with Buggy is just admitting you think the same way people in-world think about him, which is just admitting you don't understand his character. At least people in-world think that way because they don't know Buggy's story. You know Buggy's story. You should know why Shanks is friends with him and cares so much about him. But also?? Even if Buggy truly was a fucking loser with no talent and no dreams. Saying Shanks needs a reason for being friends with him is so dumb. Have you considered that... Sometimes... Most of the time... People don't have a reason for being friends with somebody and you don't need to find a reason for somebody's love?? i guess in thinking abt davejadekat it always starts with jade. which is well enough because davekat has been talked to death at this point, hasn't it? i don't think i could tell you anything new or interesting about that dynamic at this point.

ANYWAY. jade. i kind of get into this in my polar express fic which ik you've read, but she is SO lonely. what the fuck are you supposed to do for ~10 years alone on an island with just a dog?? a dog who could take you somewhere else, somewhere with people, but he won't. and maybe jade knows why because of her dreams on prospit, but also maybe not! either way i think she puts a lot of faith in her dreams. it's kind of the only hope she has for the future.

i think she also has some hope in dave, this really cool dude she has this awkward internet middle school crush on. and dave is super cool to her too! i think it's implied he furry roleplays with her even?? cutest shit ever. i think this is the thing that has made me always love davejade ... they are just. so sweet to each other. dave clearly cares SO much about her.

the other thing about jade is... she's kinda fucked over repeatedly by the narrative, isn't she? she's the last beta kid introduced, so she has a lot less time to develop. the closest she really gets to developing is being really pissed off at karkat after her dreamself dies (i'll talk about this in a sec). her arc basically ends at cascade. her character arc ends in the dead middle of the comic, in a flash animation that contains exactly 0 character development. hussie says so himself in the author's notes. (don't even get me started on the author's notes jesus christ.) everything that happens on the boat is pretty much irrelevant, because it gets retconned out. instead she spends 3 years completely fucking alone, and we like... barely unpack this in canon.

so her life story up until this point is basically: raised by grandpa till ~3-5ish > living on her own till 13 > meeting dave briefly in the game > DAVE FUCKING DIES IN FRONT OF HER, WITH HER OWN BULLETS > she meets john briefly > JOHN AND DAVESPRITE FUCKING DIE > she spends 3 years alone with no solace except "yeah they had to die but you'll see them again in the new session" from alt!calliope and i guess a bunch of sprites and consorts and chess dudes. she says it herself: as nice as it is to have these folks around, they're not able to relate to her. they're not fellow thirteen year old kids. she may not be technically alone, but she is essentially alone, and she just 1. died twice in one day and 2. witnessed the deaths of several of her friends.

more on being fucked over by the narrative - jade actually has a kind of interesting dynamic with karkat in the middle of a5a2! what happens with this dynamic later on? fucking nothing!!!! like seriously i am so interested in this whole. self-hatred parallel that gets drawn between them and then how jade puts her foot down and is like you are fucking nuts. no more yelling at yourself. and it goes nowhere!! this dynamic exists for like, maybe 1% of the comic. it's really fucking sad honestly. even at the very end of homestuck, she has to be sidelined for being too powerful, thereby excluding her from all the endgame convos. like we cannot win with her

ok anyway, here's where i get into the stuff i think is really interesting. at the end of homestuck, alt!calliope tells jade that she's suffered enough, and that it's time for her to live her life how she wants to. we don't see how this plays out in homestuck proper, BUT...... the epilogues. sighs heavily.

i may be an epilogues lover but even i have to admit that jade's portrayal is.... a mess. i don't think it's wildly out of character, exactly, but it definitely toes the line... and it's definitely extremely fucking uncomfortable. it does, however, give me some insight into how i think about jade now, because while the minutiae don't really feel in character, i do think the broad strokes of what they were going for make sense.

jade took alt!calliope's words and said, fuck it. i will take charge! i won't wait anymore! i am going to have what i want. and she does get a lot of that! she gets to hang out with her friends, hang out with her brother, meet a ton of people, have a bunch of sex (presumably when she's older), and so on. but see... doing a lot of things doesn't really fill the emptiness she feels. she has so much love to give and not enough outlet for it. she needs all the love in the world and has nobody to give it to her. and she still has this big fat ten-year-old crush on dave strider that never went anywhere. but the approach she takes to life now is just... so incompatible with what dave needs. same for karkat. they both need a LOT of patience to come out of their shells, and jade is living life in the fast lane. the more she pushes, the more withdrawn they become. it is a disaster.

i want to fix it so fucking bad.

jade needs a lot of character development for all this to work, but the dynamic is absolutely there. some of their convos in early meat are so fucking funny dude, they are such good friends. it is absolutely not for lack of caring on either dave or karkat's part that things don't work out in the epilogues. it's this disconnect between what jade thinks is helpful and what dave and karkat need. i really want jade to find the balance between living at breakneck speed and waiting ten years for something to happen. i want her to feel loved for once in her damn life. and i want dave and karkat to stop being such depressing shut-ins. please guys you could balance each other out if you would just figure out how to communicate

there is such a consistent and tangible queer undercurrent to everything that's happening on this show and i'm not just talking about the fact that several scenes look like they could be the opening scene of a gay porno. or the surprise bondage. or force in drag. or proposing marriage in front of the eiffel tower. no, there's this aching, desperate desire underlying everything. theo has--in addition to his main love interest--four very hot gay suitors who all very obviously desire him carnally... this is some sort of gay manic pixie dream boy wish fulfilment fantasy and i am absolutely eating it up.

there is a vibe to the show that @ranchthoughts called "fanfic-like", and i would argue that that's because enchanté is actually fanfiction of the little prince. (i'm planning on making a separate post soon about how the book was referenced on and used as inspiration for the show.)

enchanté is fully aware of its own fictionality. it is on-the-nose fictional. but that's what makes it so much fun--it's not trying to be something it isn't.

take the reading memories segments in episode 4 [3/4] for example: these scenes were incredibly cringe, like, full-on bad-green-screen terrible-costumes-and-wigs hilarious-acting cringe, but fully aware of their own cringe-ness. (also, gawin was both in drag and naked in the same scene as two different characters, like. get on enchanté's level.) (incidentally, can anyone tell me what character aou/phupha was supposed to be? i got detective conan, monkey d. luffy and momotarō for the others, but i'm stumped on phupha's character.)

and that self-awareness makes it camp! there is such a level of camp to the whole show which feels extremely intentional (especially in the first two thirds), almost like a meta-commentary: "this is the genre. we know it's stupid but we love it here", and i adore that. they know the tropes, they know the bl landscape, and they're just having fun with all of it.

and the whole set-up in itself is a queer allegory, isn't it? theo and akk are "from different worlds", so to speak, hindered in their love not just by their complete inability to communicate but also by their forced separation as children. when they meet again, theo doesn't really belong anywhere, he's an outsider both in france and in thailand, he is unable to act the way thai society expects him to act (e.g. failing to show the proper respect to the seniors), unable to get his parents to understand him while being actively lied to by them (the whole ocean of miscommunication in that family deserves its own post), harboring feelings for his childhood friend his whole life but unable to voice them in a normal sort of way, instead falling back on concocting the most convoluted, immediately backfiring plan to try to make akk jealous and get him to confess his feelings first.

theo is fundamentally isolated because he grew up between two cultures, and neither one quite fits him: when he's in france, he is comforted by thai food and the only people he's close with (his grandmother and sun) are from thailand like himself; but when he's in thailand, he can't quite get used to the social conventions and makes social blunders, he is very slow at writing in thai.

it's such a poignant queer allegory in my opinion. they didn't end up making as much a point of it on the show as they could have, but it very much informed my whole reading of the show and the characters. there is a sort of inability to articulate his experience surrounding theo that makes him even more isolated and screams "baby gay in need of a community" to me. having akk share his experience at the end is something that i'm not a big fan of for other, unrelated reasons (might make a separate post about enchanté's ending and why it fell flat for me), but when looking at it through this lens, it is the only way for akk to really get theo, to really understand his struggle on a fundamental level.

which brings me back to that desire i mentioned earlier: theo desires akk, very much so, there are a whole handful of scenes where akk gets close to him and theo closes his eyes, expecting to finally be kissed by him, but more than that, he desires understanding. he often brushes off his own difficulties and has a tendency to be emotionally clueless (for example about his parents' divorce), but what i see most in his character is the desire to be understood, to be seen by akk, for akk to see him for who he is and to love him for who he is. (akk, of course, has been doing both of those things all along. he's constantly taking pictures of theo, he's watching him through his window--with theo's full knowledge--he is always looking at him, he's always loving him.)

it's not inherently queer to want to be loved as we truly are, i believe heterosexual people experience this, too, but in the context of queerness itself, being perceived as queer by other queer people is indeed a fundamental aspect to experiencing queer love (maybe not in gay for you bls, but i haven't heard of much gay for you happening in real life). not to be unscientific about this, but the vibes of the perception aspect of enchanté are just very queer to me, you know?

oh, and speaking of desire: enchanté in general is very physical. there is a level of intimacy between the actors and the camera that seems incredibly intentional: there are several shower scenes, scenes of theo and akk shirtless, TWO (2) nude gawin scenes (though one of those is sadly a fake-out and he is actually wearing shorts), many, many scenes that include bare feet, which is not something i see super often in bl, at least not to the point that i notice the frequency of it.

enchanté is very rooted in the physical reality of desirable bodies: theo is allowed to openly, physically flirt with saifa, even though that's not even his endgame love interest, phupha uses physical touch in his pursuit of theo, natee shows his obsession with theo by drawing his face/body about a hundred times, and akk and theo are wholly unable to keep their hands off each other. i've joked about the intricate rituals, but seriously, they are constructing so many intricate rituals. there are two separate scenes in which they make up excuses to kiss each other's elbows/arms/backs. they keep touching each other in a thousand ways, in every possible way they can that is still plausibly deniable as physical desire--until they kiss while watching that movie and then it's just a game of chicken of who will confess first. because their physical attraction to each other is undeniable. it's obvious. this was really refreshing to see in a genre that so often plays with the blushing maiden trope, and one character is so often made to pursue the other: on enchanté, akk and theo are equally horny for each other. it's not their lack of physical attraction that keeps them apart for so long.

(sadly, the show then shies away from actually getting very sexually physical: after their desperate, stunning, amazing balcony-kiss, they aren't allowed to be horny for each other in the last two episodes, when they're actually in a relationship. this is just one of the many aspects that i didn't like about the conclusion of the story, because you simply cannot tell me that these two as we got to know them in episodes 1 to 8 would really be as chaste with each other as they're shown in episodes 9 and 10.)

leaving that aside for the moment, let's talk about that kiss. as mentioned right at the beginning, when these two kiss each other on the balcony, it's desperation in its rawest form. these two--and especially theo--crave each other. theo kisses akk like he will die without him. theo kisses akk like he can finally breathe. theo kisses akk like he never wants to do anything else ever again.

i'm a bit obsessed with book's acting here, because of all the kissing scenes i've seen him in, i think this is THE most desperate one. force plays it a bit more subtle, but book's expression is full-on anguish. theo waited his whole life to be kissed by akk, and book portrays that so beautifully, with such depth. it's one of my favorite bl kisses for sure, it's played with so much heart, so much feeling, that it's hard to even think of kisses that compare, apart from the bad buddy episode 5 rooftop kiss.

anyway, all of this to say that enchanté to me is deeply, lovingly queer, and it's a shame that so many people are sleeping on it. (and that includes myself, i was wary about watching this show for a long time because i'd heard so many negative things about it.)

but i'm here to tell you: watch enchanté. it's wonderful, it's hilariously funny, it's endearing, it has book and force in it, and it is extremely queer.

Archie's Dream 5x04

Should I be finishing up my chapter for Narwals? Yes. Am I? No. Instead, I can't get Archie's dream out of my head. Season 5 is considered to be "the worst" season. That's because the majority of people don't understand it. There are so many layers to this season. It's like a 14 hour long episode of the X-Files. If you take episodes 1-3 to really be the end of season 4 (and we all should) it's the shortest season out of all of them.

The show needed to get everyone back together in Riverdale. That's how shows like this work. The impetus is Archie's dream. On the surface it's a warning that Riverdale is in trouble. The soul of Riverdale is on the verge of collapse. And yes, that is true. Get closer though, and you start to see the shadows underneath.

The dream opens in the boys locker room of Riverdale High. Archie Andrews is giving his team a pep talk before the game. His voice is darker, deeper, it's that of a drill sergeant. He prepares them saying it's not going to be easy. That they have never faced anything like it but they cannot be afraid. He barks, "Do you know why?" And they answer "Because we're Bulldogs!"

The camera lingers on Reggie. Why Reggie? Here's the thing most people don't recognize about Mantle the Magnificent. He may not like you, but if you go to Riverdale, you're a Bulldog. And he will defend any Bulldog for any reason. That's why he's so offended and incensed that Jughead wears his Serpent's jacket. Because to him, Jughead is spitting in Riverdale's face. Jughead is one of Riverdale's sons and that should mean more.

We see the General tell them that their mission is to save their fallen brother. The next shot is of a football field as No Man's Land (the stretch of land between two trenches in war). There are football players in the background running plays. There are bombs going off and artillery fire whizzing by. I am an avid football fan. I grew up on Ohio State football. A football game is often referred to as a "battle". You'll hear phrases like "Battle on the Grid Iron". Each game is life or death for the players and the fans. But this is more than just a football game. This is actual life or death.

Reggie goes down. Shot in the chest from enemy fire. This is representative of how Reggie is on the "wrong" side in the season. He's aligned himself with Hiram. He doesn't care for the town and the school that he once loved so deeply.

Archie is then flown into the air by a bomb. He doesn't want to go further. He doesn't think he can. You would think that he would look at his target. Instead, he sees Cheryl. She's in her Vixens uniform. And while you can hear the squad cheering, Cheryl isn't speaking. She smiles at him, with tears in her eyes, nodding at him to go forward. Why is she here? They weren't particularly close. Why would she care about his mission? Because Cheryl has lost a brother. She knows that pain of not being able to help and the guilt that comes with surviving. She can't let Archie go through that.

Then we see the fallen soldier. We don't know his identity until Archie gets to him. It's Jughead. A chest wound pouring out blood. His heart was broken by his first love and his best friend. Jughead only says one line and it is "I just need a little help". We come to learn in the season that Jughead has become an alcoholic. His line is one that many addicts say. It's so simple to believe that with just a little help they can overcome their affliction. A lot of times it's said to get a fix. Just a tiny one to help get through the withdrawal.

On the sidelines is everyone who loves Jughead. The Serpents, Betty, Veronica, and Pop. They're all cheering for Archie to do what needs to be done. And at the last moment we see Hiram standing with a gun pointed at Archie. In the first four seasons it was always about Archie vs Hiram. But everyone forgets that the actual thorn in Hiram's side was Jughead. It's Jughead that exposes him. It's Jughead that picks up the pieces of his parental duties for Veronica. It's Jughead who is willing to risk everything to see Hiram exposed for all of his corruption and evil deeds. And Hiram knows it. But Hiram can't do anything to Jughead without exposing himself. That's why he willingly lets Jughead take himself to the slaughter against the ghoulies. Hiram was behind riot night. And that gunshot wound in Jughead's chest? Who's to say it wasn't Hiram who pulled the trigger?

Archie's dream tells the story of season 5. There's many reasons for him to come home. He declares that Riverdale is "dying" and they need to save it. But it's not Riverdale that he has to save, it's Jughead. He hasn't spoken to Jughead in seven years. When he calls his three friends, Betty and Veronica drop what they are doing immediately to answer. Jughead is the only one who hesitates. We never see him answer. Jughead is the most reluctant to stay.

NO ONE on the show knows how to handle an addiction. Not even Jughead. He knows how to take care of his father but it was never his responsibility to save his father. And FP? FP gets sober cold turkey. He falls off the wagon at his retirement party. He is magically able to handle alcohol responsibly. That's not how addiction works.

Archie offers Jughead a place to stay and a teaching position at the school. Archie lets him go when he needs to go back to New York without any questions asked. Archie is the subliminal support system that was taken from Jughead at the end of high school. He doesn't know what to do exactly (and he has his own issues - PTSD) but he can do the passive things to help his brother.

After seven years of silence, Archie has a dream that tells him his best friend and brother is in danger and he's the only one who can help. And if that's being an invitation back to a safe place and a warm bed then he does it without hesitation. To many Archie IS Riverdale. He is the heart of the town. But, Jughead put Riverdale on the map. Jughead is the town's conscience. To Archie, Jughead is Riverdale.

I mention in passing that I am in fact writing a novel, but I try to avoid saying too much to prevent spoilers buuuuut I think I can keep it vague enough while still rambling <3

The novel (technically a novella) is called 'The Shadow Walker' and here's a draft of a blurb:

With no friends, an absent mom, an abusive dad, and a shadow that inexplicably went missing; Nicholas Walker is convinced his life couldn’t possibly get any worse. But everything changes when he meets something (or someone) who may or may not want him dead.

He's 12 years old and a selective mute and my scrungliest little blorbo who experiences the horrors™. He doesn't have any friends, is neglected by his parents, and all in all has a bad time before the book starts :(

The only source of healthy food in the house (he borrows money from his dad and goes to the store alone) but is severely malnourished from eating nothing more than reheated takeout his dad left in the fridge. Nick doesn't talk verbally unless it's to his dad (out of necessity) and otherwise converses in ASL (which I'm learning for this book <3). Loves pretty buildings and stargazing, has a dream of visiting things like Notre Dame and the colloseum some day and is fascinated by architecture. I just realised that this kid would adore Minecraft but anyway after things get better for him he's given Lego models of like the eiffel tower and he loves them :)

Gonna stop before I spend the entire post talking about my boy and move onto

You know that thing that's like, "Not a bad person, just a bad parent"? Yeah. That's her. She ran away from her abusive boyfriend and left Nick behind out of fear, since she didn't know if she could survive by herself, much less with a child in tow. She ends up leaving with her best friend and they travel around the world a lot for their job. They're a musician who plays back up for bands in different places and Rachel ends up learning to play some stuff too after watching them for so long. The two end up dating at some point and they've been together ever since. Rachel still sends Nicholas a postcard every time she travels to a new place, but she doesn't have the courage to actually see him in person yet. Also fun fact. She's descended from a woman who was killed for being a 'witch' during the salem trials. This is relevant to the story :3

Not but fr, he's a terrible father. Works at a convenience store and his co-workers fear him. Lives off of take-out and instant ramen, never checks on his son. Lexi is a single mom who grew up kinda spoiled and is still figuring out how to raise a kid. Her parents are kinda helpful about it but also she doesn't want to raise Chelsea how she was raised so hgjhrj. Chelsea was orignally planned to be autistic since this entire book is a transparent cover for neurodivergent rep but the version of her in my head is so very ADHD instead. They only show up near the end of the book so I'm still experimenting with them a bit but Lexi is a huge book worm and Chelsea loves unicorns, like, I mean in the 'mythology is cool way' not the 'stereotypical girl behaviour' way. She does love pink things and sparkles though

I'll be shocked if you know him, but I'm submitting Marvel's Matt Hawk/Two-Gun Kid. Here's some info:

+ deeply principled Defense Lawyer + who is also a fearless gunslinger (but no one knows this because he keeps these identities fiercely seperated) + Jewish, but closeted (he changed his name from Leibowicz) + has fought werewolves before + is the type of person who would choose to dynamite a friend out of prison and evoke an elaborate ruse to prove the friend's innocence instead of coming clean about his double identity + is not ... Confirmed Gay Per Se but YOU read his appearances in West coast Avengers and then tell me he doesn't have it BAD for Hawkeye. (I am not joking, I thought everyone saying this was on fandom bullshit and then I read the issues in question and. They're not) SO. + Approaching the Supernatural- check, he's met gods from the future, he communicated with Daredevil through dreams and solved a case with him, and as above, he's fought werewolves. he's seen it all.

+ Accepting the crucifix- I don't think he would reject it, especially if he's in his 'refined, elegant lawyer Matt Hawk' persona BUT unlike Jonathan, he would not keep wearing it, and even if he did have it at Castle Dracula, it would not be a source of comfort or strength to him, as it was to Jonathan. I have a lot of VERY complicated thoughts about the long history of vampires as a stand in for Jewishness and how Jewish characters facing off against vampires can best actually reckon with that legacy. I don't think just swapping the crucifix with a Star of David quite cuts it especially given that Dracula specifically is designed as a personification of a LOT of antisemitic tropes, which I'm saying as someone who loves the book. It also wouldn't work simply because Matt wouldn't wear a Star of David openly, at least when he's trying to work as a lawyer. I do think it's possible that he would have recited the Traveler's Prayer (Tefilat Haderach) which by tradition, asks for protection at the start of a journey, and (depending on which tradition one is in) if one is staying in the same place for multiple nights it's recited every morning. So the shaving incident may very well have happened right after the prayer, if not during.

+ his ass would ABSOLUTELY go exploring, he's curious and headstrong

+ I think Dracula is perceptive enough to realize that Matt has more going on than meets the eye, although even when he's in his Lawyer Mode, Matt's outspoken and opinionated so he might piss Dracula off more than Jonathan

+ Strong enough to do the free climbing, though I think determination and will to survive are the bigger factors here and Matt definitely has both of those

+ He would pick the wolves over the vampires

Anyway I think he WOULD survive Castle Dracula thank you for coming to my TEDTalk

I addressed the Star of David question somewhat in the Moon Knight ask, but I agree that it's always going to be a somewhat fraught issue. I really like your idea with the Traveler's Prayer though!

How many Lawyers Called Matt are kicking around the Marvel universe anyway?? Good for them.

Your guy really sounds like he could go either way. He has all the elements he needs for success, but will he recognize and deploy them? Can he stay in mild-mannered lawyer mode for two months? Will he recognize that being too outspoken or opinionated I'd a death sentence?

I think his biggest danger would be thinking he can take Dracula as Two Gun because no he can't. Jonathan only lived because he couldn't get through a locked door the second time a child was in danger. If he decides to go ahead and shoot Dracula off the wall the charade is dropped and he dies. (Presuming Dracula hasn't already stolen all his stuff by then).

But it also sounds like he is very very good at keeping the mask up. So like... he could survive... but will he? I just don't know.

I'm just here to compliment you really lol, mostly because I am giving a try to write a lil something for the first time and god I can only dream of ever being able to write as good as you. I've been writing poems and music for years now but i find writing actual coherent storys with characters and dialogue so so hard.

I'M GONNA CRYYYY this was the sweetest thing in the world to wake up to wtf wtf <333 thank you SO much, i really appreciate this wahh my heart :'))) but also you are SILLY. don't compare yourself to others!! if we all did that constantly we'd never get anything written!! there are SO many authors i adore on here that will always have me chasing the "i wish i could write like that" feeling and it's a great motivator but alsooo at the end of the day. you gotta fall in love with your own words and characters and stories <33

and i feel that so much!! we are twinsss, i also started out writing poems and music and then realized i had stories i wanted to tell that wouldn't fit in shorter form, then discovered fanfic in middle school in the early '10s and it was all downhill from there LOL. truly such a golden era tho oh my god. growing up reading the hat fic and borderline illegible wattpad stories was certainly... formative!

yapping ahead vv (i don't have much advice bc i'm still just learning as i go but hopefully some stuff i picked up on can be a bit helpful!)

i have zero method to the madness when writing so it's a relief to know it doesn't come off that way LOL but i do have a few little things that i follow and i always look for them when beta–ing as well! they're pretty small technical things and they're generally up to personal preference, but some of them come from authors i admire and i think they can really take anyone's writing up a notch <3

i don't feel qualified to give advice because i'm just raw–dogging everything lmao i've never taken classes or anything, so take all this yapping with a grain of salt bc it's just what's worked for me!

– i try to use descriptors like "the man" or "the blond" or "his friend" etc sparingly. i wish i could remember the source, but i read a great piece about why it's better to just go with the character's name 99% of the time, and then i went through so many of my works to edit them and i felt so much more confident in my writing afterwards– it made a big difference in readability (imo).

ofc there are exceptions, like if the name of a character is unknown, or if there are too many names being thrown around in one sentence and a "the man" or "the soldier" etc just sits nicer. i definitely still use them occasionally! but it does sometimes put some distance between the reader and the story when those descriptors are used too often instead of names, so it's a good thing to keep an eye out for when it comes to flow. sometimes less or more or whateva ??

– sorta on the topic of less is more, i love challenging myself to show vs tell when i can! whether it's by keeping dialogue short and letting actions speak instead (can add to intimacy/realism– we communicate so much through body language yk), through metaphors (literally how my whole '#john egan is dog coded' fic was born LOL), or describing feelings rather than spelling them out (his heart ached vs he was sad, his pulse raced vs he was scared, you get the gist). you said you've been writing poems so i feel like stuff like that would already probably come easily to you tho! <3

– this guide on ao3 is great for smut writers! whether someone's a beginner or just looking for ways to elevate the filth, i found it really helpful, it's a fun read as well lol. it calls out stereotypes/cliches and teaches you how to reword them, gives lists of slang and reactionary words, do's and don't's, etc. i don't follow everything in it but that's the beauty of writing; we all have things that work for us and things that don't and that's so okay. :-)

– in the same way that artists use references to practice and find their style, you can do that with writing too! i know a lot of writers have a doc or note where they jot down stylistic things they find while reading that they'd like to emanate, or words they want to use, specific phrases, descriptors, etc. if i'm reading a fic and find an auditory descriptor i like, i might take note of it, stuff like that. sorta like a text document version of a pinterest board!

– thesaurus.com is my best friend truly. often going with the 'simplest' version of a word makes for smoothest reading so someone isn't taken out of the story being like wtf does that word mean lol but sometimes things can feel repetitive, or like there just needs to be a little bit more spice; i probs go back and forth btwn my doc and thesaurus a dozen times an hour tbh.

that's all i can think of rn and ik those are pretty basic so i'm sorry about that!! i really do just kinda write what evokes emotions in myself, and then i hit post and hope it translates over to whoever is reading too :') drawing from your own experiences if you can/really sitting with what the characters would be feeling in whatever scenario you're writing is probably the most powerful way to present what you see in your mind.

i have a hard time writing about emotions/things i haven't personally experienced, so i usually stray away from it out of fear of not getting across what i want to, but some people are great at winging it and putting themselves in unfamiliar shoes so!! it's again just personal preference really.

and alsooo be kind to yourself! i'm an anxious wreck every time i post any of my writing, i am very much not confident when posting new fics and i agonize over my docs so much and trash a lot of works, but i know at the end of the day i can't grow or learn if i don't get the words down, and i can't get feedback or gain confidence if i don't post. becoming your own hype man and giving yourself the opportunity to improve is essential <33

The way that she SPRINTS down the hall in this scene kills me, and I love Jimmy Jr.'s (and Jocelyn's) reactions after. If this wasn't immediately followed by THE Zekina kiss, it would probably be higher up on my list! (That's what I get for being a multi-shipper, oops)

The first kiss!!! Honestly, this is the one I struggled to rank the most. I think they've had better ones since this, but there's something so special and nostalgic about this one??? I think part of it is that I love the window scene right before this. IDK!!!! <3

"Bob Actually" Season 7, Episode 9

Was there ever any doubt about which one would be #1??? I am never NOT thinking about the sky kiss. He planned this!!! For Valentine's Day!!!! FOR HER!!!! He was so excited about it!!!!! Also, Sky Kiss is my favorite Bob's Burgers song, so it gets extra points for that. The "Jimmy Jr. kisses Tiiiiiiiiiina" part scratches my brain just right. <3

(As a side note, after typing these all out, I realized that they kiss SO many times in season 7???? If you took out the Xmas episode, there would be three episodes in a row where they kiss. They need to bring that momentum back for me personally)

So... my thoughts on season 5!!

Episode 1: Domina Profundis

- so I'm assuming Callum and Rayla talked after the events of Escape From Umber Tor because I expected them to be still a little awkward but they're not, it looks like they're friends again and that makes me so happy!!

- why does Rayla need to take off the nails on the painting in front of the secret passageway? Can't Stella just make a portal to the other side of it?

- okay I hate Karim but did the sunfire elf guard really have to take his ring? I think Janai would've let him keep it. And the guard was like "it belongs to Queen Janai now" and then proceeded to drop it on the ground. Wtf bro

- Opeli telling Callum why Rayla was arrested and Callum being like "okay, so what?" will never not be funny to me

- Callum really said "it's okay she just got too silly"

Episode 2: Old Wounds

- their little conversation about trust... they're healing their relationship YIPPEE

- domina profundis looks so fucking cool I wish we saw more of her

- I now expect to see Barius invent a new pastry every season from here on out.

- CALLUM DOING PUPPY DOG EYES AT RAYLA GAVE ME SO MUCH SEROTONIN

- THIS IS ONLY EPISODE 2 AND ALREADY THEY'RE GOING HAM WITH THE RAYLLUM CONTENT. THEY SPENT THE NIGHT AT A COZY INN TOGETHER. AND THE BANTER BETWEEN THEM AFTERWARDS IS SO CUTE. ugh yes s5ep2 "Old Wounds" my beloved (Actually I love the whole first 4 episodes but we'll get to that later)

- "I know dark magic created this place, but it's a bridge between our two worlds, and now here we are, crossing it together" I'm screaming.

- the banther chase was so cool! I love the battle duo dynamic Rayla and Callum have going on, and the way the banther was animated looked awesome. (Also I find it hilarious how when Rayla's arrow hit the Banther, it literally got right back up but it was like "actually, fuck this" and just dipped)

- Viren's dream sequence with baby Soren ripped my heart out

Episode 3: Nightmares And Revelations

- Ezran literally befriended the entire dragon population except Sol Regem, Rex Igneous, and the archdragon of stars (if there is one) (no moon archdragon I'm pretty sure? Because the last one was Luna Tenebris and she died) and I love that for him

- Callum's reaction to finding out Amaya and Janai are engaged was priceless. I was so excitedly waiting to see that and it was everything I'd hoped for.

Episode 4: The Great Bookery

Episode 5: Archmage Akiyu

- Terry is such a good boyfriend.

Episode 6: Bait And Switch

- let Soren have the best lavender essential oils in all of Scumport he deserves it

- when Ezran goes to see Finnegrin and Callum stays outside and he says "it's fine I'll just get to know my new friend here" and Elmer says they aren't friends, Callum lets out this little giggle and it's the cutest thing. FOR WHAT? LITERALLY FOR WHAT

- I'm conflicted about Claudia fighting the dragon. I mean, slay, but also... I'm scared 😃

- BABY GLOW TOADS!!

Episode 7: Sea Legs

- I need to know what Bait said when he grunted and Ezran said "that's not very nice, Bait"

- "baby mage" Nyx I'm gonna have to stop you right there because I will not tolerate this falsehood and this slander towards my boy Callum

- I love how when the baby glow toad fell overboard, Nyx was like "I'll get it" and Callum was like "no I'll get it" and then there's Soren, who hollers "SORENBALL!" and just yeets himself in.

- Callum carrying the episode with his sky magic ugh yes (partially Soren too, for saving the baby glow toad, and Villads bc of course he's a great captain and the squad couldn't do this without him, but Callum is slaying I'm so proud of him)

- Amaya finding out Kim'Dael took Janai may have broken my heart just a little

Episode 8: Finnegrin's Wake

- IT'S CALLUM IN THE INTRO INSTEAD OF VIREN OH FUCK

- please excuse my excessive use of "fuck"

- they hurt my boy ☹️

- "I'm not gonna help you murder the archdragon of the ocean" "Murder? When you put it like that you make me sound like a bloodthirsty fiend" YOU LITERALLY ARE 💀

- Rayla screaming at Finnegrin to let Callum go when she sees that Callum got beat up... the pre-s5 speculation fanfic writers are probably losing their shit rn

- THIS IS MY FAVORITE SCENE IN THE WHOLE FUCKING SHOW. OH MY GOD.

I have never seen anyone more angry at any point in the entirety of this show than Callum is in this scene. He's been angry before, but rarely, and when he does, he remains level-headed. But then Finnegrin starts torturing Rayla, and that's what sets him off. And seeing a character like him, who's always been so sweet and gentle and kind, going absolutely fucking feral because someone hurt his loved one, is so satisfying to me. He loves her so much, the worst thing to him is seeing her suffering. I'm going insane over this.

- HE FUCKING UNLOCKED THE OCEAN ARCANUM. I'M SO PROUD OF HIM

- remember when he told Rayla "I'd do anything for you"? Yeah... (I'm totally writing a fanfic about this)

Episode 9: Infantis Sanguine

- Callum looks so pretty here. He always looks pretty but MY GOD

- I'm gonna cry. The way he looks at Rayla like "Hey it's okay I'm right here with you :)" has me in a chokehold

- Rayla getting scared about being underwater and swimming back up to the surface and Callum immediately going after her to see if she was okay... no one fucking touch me

- I had no problem with Claudia at the start of the underwater fight but then she threatened Ezran and I was like "sweetie I can't defend you anymore"

- bruh they couldn't talk underwater anyway so what the fuck was the point of threatening Ezran to make him talk?

- I know it's a fantasy cartoon and the logic doesn't matter but RAYLA SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SHOOT THOSE ARROWS SO PERFECTLY WHILE UNDERWATER.

- Aaravos has been in ONE EPISODE this season and nearly every speaking line he has is so sus

- I always hated Viren because him manipulating and gaslighting his kids reminded me of my dad who I haven't spoken to for 3 years now, and I've had to accept that he's never going to change, but I'm glad Viren has changed and I'm proud of him

Sitting alone outside was not how you thought your night was going to go when you woke up that morning. Having been invited to a charity ball a few weeks prior, you were barely able to contain your excitement in the days leading up to the big event. You had gone above and beyond with your outfit to make sure this would be a night to remember. After all, it wasn’t often you get to wear fancy clothes such as these. Everything was going so well, until it wasn’t. Your one problem? Your date never turned up.

He had stood you up. You couldn’t say you were surprised, he did seem like the flaky type but you were never one to judge until you got to know a person. Jokes on you, you guessed. Your poor foresight had left you sitting in the cold on the steps to the magnificent venue. Feeling incredibly sorry for yourself, you fished out your phone.

“Y/n?” A voice you recognised all too well called out from behind. You peaked a glance and sure enough, your best friend was approaching, walking down the steps looking for all the world like a prince come to rescue you.

“Kurapika.” You gasped and turned away, not expecting to meet anyone. Hastily wiping your tears away, you only turned back once you were sure your cheeks were dry. It didn’t matter, Kurapika was able to tell anyway.

“Why are you crying?” He asked, voice filled with concern. He reached out, a gentle hand coming to rest on your arm. “You’re freezing, let's go back inside.”

“No, I’m fine. I was about to call it a night anyway.”

“But you didn’t even go in.” His brows furrowed, trying to piece together what had happened. 

You just responded with a half hearted smile, ignoring the chill that was seeping into your bones. “It doesn’t matter.”

“You’re upset, of course it matters.”

Knowing he wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight unless you told him, you eventually gave in. “My date stood me up.”

His usually composed features gave nothing away, only the slight edge to his voice revealed how angry he was. “And you stayed out here waiting?”

“Pathetic, right? I didn’t even get to dance.” You looked down at your feet, feeling utterly stupid. 

“He’s the pathetic one.” Sighing, Kurapika held out his hand. “Allow me to be your date.”

Your eyes snapped back up to his and you didn’t even bother trying to hide your surprise. “What?”

A small smile tugged at the corners of Kurapika’s lips. “Y/n, will you allow me to accompany you?”

He really was your knight in shining armour. You beamed at your best friend, gladly taking his outstretched hand. “Of course.”

Kurapika, however, didn’t lead you into the ballroom as you thought but instead brought you into the impressive gardens. The faint melody of a waltz carried outside, making the gardens feel as if they were alive with magic. Soft lanterns illuminated the hedgerows and flower beds while the moon took care of the rest. You must’ve looked like a fool as you took it all in as Kurapika couldn’t stop staring at you. Snapping out of your awe filled daze, you turned to him.

“What? Do I have something on my face?” You patted your cheeks, worried you had somehow gotten dirt there.

“You look wonderful.” He assured you, making you feel happier than you had all evening. Your happiness skyrocketed when the boy before you once again held out his hand. “Will you dance with me?”

“I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’m quite a bit shorter than you.”

He laughed lightly, grabbing your waist with all the gentleness in his body. “That’s not an issue.”

With a fond smile on his face, Kurapika lifted you so now your feet were resting on the tops of his shoes. Thankfully your face was already red from the cold otherwise you would’ve been caught blushing.

In time with the gentle music, Kurapika began spinning you both around the gardens and you could’ve sworn you had been transported into a fairytale. The lanterns turned into fractures of light as you span, making it seem as if magic was in the air itself. 

“I didn’t know you could dance.” You whispered breathlessly, staring wide eyed at the boy before you who looked remarkably like a prince in this very moment.

“Do you like it?”

“Like it? Everything is so magical I’m starting to believe I caught a fever and am hallucinating on the steps.” You laughed freely, throwing your head back to glimpse at the stars. 

“If this is a hallucination, why am I in it?”

“Maybe because nothing ever feels right without you.” You confessed, feeling quite brave in your whimsical fairytale. It was too dark to tell clearly, but you could’ve sworn Kurapika’s face was lightly flushed. Resting your head on his shoulder, you allowed yourself to be gently rocked back and forth as the music slowed. “I don’t ever want this night to end.”

“Me neither.” He murmured, almost too low to hear. Kurapika’s head quietly rested on top of yours, giving you a sense of beautiful completion.

You didn’t know how long you both stayed like that for, both of you swaying back and forth to the music under the light of the moon. All you knew is that you somehow had stumbled into a fairytale and that you never wanted to leave.

The moon heard many things that night, all of them sweeter than the next. Best friends became lovers, tears became laughter, and music became magic. If you looked up, you would’ve seen that the moon was shining just a little brighter.

For Him, eps 1-2

Well, I'm hooked.

The Nail/Jay break-up was the most realistic break-up argument I've seen in a romance in a long time. I also appreciated that they showed some of their history and how happy they had been before. Crossing my fingers they don't bring Jay back to be an unrepentant asshole, instead of the dumb college kid who doesn't know how to communicate that he is. I know it's unlikely, but let him learn and grow from his mistake.

Nail - I love how confident he is about what he wants from his relationship with Him. He's laid down his boundaries and is sticking to them so far. I wonder what it will take for those boundaries to move.

The acting is better than I expected. Te's anger at Him especially stood out in episode two. Can't wait to find out what that's about.

The bed scenes are really well done, incorporating character details that make them richer and more intimate. The removing of Nail's jewelry was particularly good. What are they going to be like once Nail and Him are actually in love with each other?! (Please don't water them down once that happens, show.) Also, are they switching? It was hard to tell, but it seemed like it. If so, that's a nice change.

Him - I wish the actor was a little better, but he's not terrible by any means. He's just hard to read sometimes and I can't easily tell what Him is thinking about Blue. Part of that is not knowing exactly what happened. We don't know if Blue died or just left. The fact that his friends are celebrating his birthday had me thinking he's dead, but then that flashback happened and now I'm confused. Apart from that, I am here for Him's angsty brooding. Give me more.

Blue - I am so intrigued about what is going on there. He's being played by the same actor as Nail, so does that mean he is/was Blue or that they're being cute with the production? And now I'm trying to remember if any of Him's friends have seen Nail yet. (If this show is based on a book, then please no spoilers. I don't want to know what's really going on until the show tells me.)

The greek chorus girl gang cliches are part of Nail's friend group - love that and it makes them loads less annoying to watch. Their scene in ep 2 when Him showed up looking for Nail was very funny.

Why are Him and his friends in a band? Seriously, why? At least the song was dubbed. I don't think I've liked a college BL band since TharnType. Oh wait, I take that back: the My School President band was good. So two bands have been good.

Dream and Chaochom are exceedingly cute and have such great chemistry after only two scenes? The door scene was hilarious.

I don't know if I will watch weekly or if I'll save up episodes to binge. More and more, I'm finding I enjoy the Thai dramas better when I binge them. Either way, I can't wait to see what happens next in this one.

Jack is given a mission by MiM to go into Pitch's lair to offer reform, but Pitch is not having it. Jack, now stuck in the dark with the Boogieman has to convince back into the light or take his place as the new Nightmare King. All the while, memories of a life he doesn't remember start to resurface and Pitch has something to do with it. Its a WIP, but definitely worth the read!

Black Ice - If How to Love Fear dragged me in, this one is what convinced me to stay. Jack finds Pitch one Halloween night and agrees to help him find his true center and a new way to use fear. What follows is a slow-burn, sci-fi fantasy epic that I finished in less than three days because it was so compelling! Complete.

Baddest Boy of Them All - A blackice Megamind AU where Pitch comes to Earth as a baby is not raised by the best of standards, ultimately deciding that if they're gonna treat him like a bad guy, he might as well be the bad guy. Jack becomes his favorite hostage. WIP, but updated regularly.

Rocks Give Way to Rain - The slowest of slow burns and mysteries and I am dying to see it's completion! It's long, it's epic, Jack has a much shadier past than we've been led to believe, and there's something up with Pitch and his shadows and Jack is determined to help out. WIP, absolutely a must-read.

Evil Boyfriends - If dark!Jack is your thing, this is the series for you! Pitch finds Jack long before the Guardians get him and Jack sticks around, compounding in a dangerously co-dependent relationship. Not what I would actually consider dark!Jack, but he's definitely not on the side of the Guardians. Complete.

Finding a Home for the Holidays - Some Doublemint Oreo goodness, wherein Jack finally has people to spend the holidays with. Fluff, smut, and angst all in one place! Complete.

You're Safe With Me - Na Jaemin x Fem Reader | Idol AU

A/N: so, your girl got herself into some sort of mishap. Okay, one of my social media was hacked and now I'm being paranoid and I just wanted to write a story to comfort my paranoid ass T^T

Word Count: 3k (not the most I've written but it's quite long since I've been writing blurbs/drabbles for quite some time)

Warnings: stalking behaviour, hacking, bullying/gaslighting behaviour, near assault, slight slow burn

Summary: Jaemin wasn't one to typically be involved in other people's business. But he can't just let something bad happen to someone that became dear to him despite only knowing them for a short amount of time

You were always a cautious person. You were always careful in whatever it is you do. Whether it was cooking, driving, or even meeting someone new through social media.

Everything was alright at first. You met a new friend through one of your social media accounts, thanks to liking the same TV show and finally finding someone to talk to about.

However, as life goes on, your likes and dislikes would change and when you slowly taken into liking of NCT, you slowly drifted away from liking that TV show and unintentionally drifted apart from that friend you made online who was starting to pester you with questions such as "do you hate me now? am I boring to you now?".

Which at first, you simply reply a "no" and honestly telling them that you just found a liking for something else but ensuring them that they can always come to you whenever they needed someone to talk to which was fine at first. Until they started commenting about the posts you make about NCT, specifically when you post about your bias, Na Jaemin.

"This is who you like now?

"They're just some unrealistic Korean dude"

"You really stopped talking to me just because of him?!"

The comments they made were making you uncomfortable that you actually started to stop talking to them. Thankfully, your in-real-life friends were all supportive of you and even reassured you that everything was going to be alright and that that person is just some other person that wanted attention.

Thankfully, they stopped contacting you after some time and just in time as well! NCT DREAM were invited to perform for a festival in your hometown which you and your friend immediately got the tickets the second they were released and here the two of you were going to see them perform live after stanning them for nearly a whole year!

Arriving at the hall, the two of you went to your seats which were luckily seated near the front row so you were able to see the boys up close which you both did. At times, some of the boys would look over towards where you both were sitting and everything felt so surreal. Especially when the Na Jaemin himself seemed to look at your direction, giving you one of his sweetest smiles ever.

When the night was over, you and your friend went back to your house since your friend was from another town and came to stay over just because of the festival.

Everything felt so unreal and amazing that you prayed that days like this would always happen to not only you but everyone else. But the universe always has its ways, doesn't it?

You and your friend decided to go out together and just eat, hang out and take pictures of the photocards you both brought together. Everything was good until the two of you stepped into the elevator where two other people were in it when instead of going down to the next floor, the elevator was stuck right in between the floor the two of you were on and the floor of your destination.

Now, you weren't typically a paranoid person. But you do have a fear of heights and no one, not even your friend can do anything about it. Your mind started to wonder places. You can feel the water build up in your eyes as you cursed every now and then because of worry. Well, until someone put their hand on your shoulder, patting it gently and talking in a broken English accent with quite a thick accent that you would recognise anywhere thanks to watching lots of variety shows that include none other than Na Jaemin, himself.

"It's alright. You'll be alright. We'll all be alright. Turn around and face me, okay?" Jaemin stated as you slowly turn around to face him, face the man who you've come to admire for so long

"Take deep breaths with me, okay? In and out. There you go. Just focus on my voice, okay? Everything is okay" Jaemin mentioned, giving you the same smile as his performance the other day

It was at that moment that you felt as if you were the main character of those stories you would always read. Is this what it feels like to get noticed by your crush? Maybe having to face your fears wouldn't be all that bad. Too bad the moment was over when the technicians fixed the elevator and the four of you arrived at the ground floor and went out of the elevator.

Heck, it wasn't until you went out that you realised that Jeno was right by Jaemin the whole time, seeing Jaemin calmed you down and all, making you suddenly flushed at the thought.

"Excuse me..." you called out, before Jaemin and Jeno left

"Hmm?" Jaemin hummed as you stood in front of him

"Thank you and I'm sorry for before" you mentioned, bowing at a 90 degrees angle at Jaemin who immediately stopped you from even reaching a 45 degree

"Please. It's alright. I'm happy to be of help. Take care of yourself, alright? Thank you for your support as well" Jaemin replied as the two of you faced each other, Jaemin giving you another smile which you can tell from his eye smile before parting ways

You wished that moment could last longer but being a realist yourself, you just chuckle at the small interaction you had, the small gifts that life likes to give you every now and then. Keeping that memory for yourself as you saw Jaemin and Jeno leaving which you and your friend did the same; failed to notice that Jaemin secretly turned around to see if you have gone, a smile actually crept behind the mask that hid his face.

After your friend left the next day, your family thought that it was a good idea to go and have seafood for dinner. You weren't really a big fan of seafood and would typically suggest other food but for some reason, you just go along with it; too tired to argue, especially after being drained from going to the festival and meeting your ult bias the other day.

Arriving at the restaurant, you and your siblings would just head inside whilst your parents pick the seafood to eat. Once your parents were back, you excused yourself to wash your hand at the same time a boy with a white T-shirt that says "I like cats not you" and a black baseball cap stood next to you, washing his hands. You swore you've seen that white T-shirt before and being the curious self, you unintentionally took more than a peek at the boy who noticed you from the mirror in front of you.

"So, it's you again"

You couldn't believe your ears or your eyes. It was Jaemin, no doubt about it. That's the same low voice you heard when you felt someone tap your shoulder the other day. Blinking a few times, Jaemin was now facing you, his eye smile giving away the fact that he was smiling underneath the mask and you were taken aback.

"I hope that you're better now. Since you're not really a sky kind of person, is that why you chose seafood?" Jaemin joked, making you giggle

"My parents wanted to eat here. I just follow along because I'm too tired. But actually, I'm more of a land person. How did you find this place?" you asked

"It was Chenle. He was the one that look for the places. The rest of us just come along" Jaemin answered, nudging towards where his members were; which were at the table behind you

The two of you made your way back to each of your tables with both your backs facing each other. Occasionally, the two of you stole glances from each other which Jaemin's members notice; especially Chenle who decided to break the barrier and ask if you were a fan which shocked you.

After getting several scoops of food, you turned around to face Chenle, telling him and the others that were probably listening, that you were indeed a fan. But you told them that you were a recent fan, going into your second year of stanning them.

For some reason, you and the neos ended up facing each other after eating and just talking about your favourite performance, songs, and basically, your fangirling side despite the language barrier and surprisingly enough, the neos were all listening, taking in the way you explain things; especially Jaemin.

No matter how hard Jaemin tries to hide it, he was enjoying you explaining everything like the fangirl you were but in his ears and mind, it was as if he was hearing a close friend that was hyping him and his friends up. Jaemin didn't even realise how long he was staring until his members snapped him out when you ask if they wanted to try a local dessert from a shop next door which he instantly nodded and you smiled, telling them that you'll be back or they can wait in front of the restaurant.

Once you were out of sight was when the other members slightly teased Jaemin about his fondness for you. It was then that Jaemin told them that he and Jeno were stuck in an elevator with you and your friend the other day and you were having a panic attack that Jaemin decided to comfort you. He also pointed out how you seemed like a genuine person and fan, not like those overly obsessed ones that only pretend to be shy and innocent in front of their idols.

It's been several minutes since you left and Jaemin's gut was telling him that something was off. He told the members that it would be best to wait in front of the restaurant since there were still some people that wanted to dine in; which they all agreed. Chenle and Renjun went to pay first with the staff whilst Jaemin, Jeno and Jisung headed out to wait.

But instead, Jaemin looked around, trying to find you. Once he spotted you, he told Jeno and Jisung that he'll be right back and made his way to where you were. But the closer he got, the more he noticed that something was wrong. Your hands were slightly shaky as there was a man next to you, seemingly too close to your liking.

With every step Jaemin took, he noticed the man making bold moves. From putting their arm around your shoulder then to your elbow, waist, whilst you were squirming, trying to get away but the man's grip was tighter.

You on the other hand were just ordering the desert for the dreamies when a random man stood right behind you, whispering "I found you, (Y/N)". Sending shivers down your spine as you realised who this person could be. The so-called internet friend you befriended a while ago.

"Now now. Don't try anything. Wouldn't want anything bad to happen or should I perhaps leak your boys' whereabouts? Now that would be fun, wouldn't it?" the man whispered, you felt one of his hands around your shoulder

"You've already ruined my plan the other day by stepping into that elevator. Lucky for those boys, I might say. Otherwise, there really might be a boom" the man whispered again, his hand slowly making their way to your elbow

You weren't normally this scared. You typically had this RBF face that would help intimidate anyone that you don't want to get near you. But you just can't help how you act when you're put in these real-life situations and you hate yourself for it. You hate that you're not brave enough to forcefully push away or anything because even though you're the one that has a knife up your throat, you still wonder about the dreamies, hoping that they'll actually forget about you and go back to their hotel.

You were so frustrated that water started to build up in your eyes once more like how you were stuck in the elevator the other day, feeling suffocated and trapped. But this was worse. You were alone. Your family were waiting for you in car, thinking that you would be alright and the dreamies were idols, foreigners, they shouldn't be involved with you in the first place and you hated yourself for being selfish, for wanting more.

The longer you were lost in thought, the more frustrated you were and it made your stalker happy. He was practically feeding off of your frustration and desperation, liking how you were finally submitting yourself. He finally got you where he wanted and he wasn't going to let that go anytime soon.

After months of losing the one way of contact he had with you, he spent hours, days, and weeks to find you and when he found out that NCT DREAM were coming to your hometown, he instantly felt a psychotic plan creeping up. Killing two birds with one stone. He was going to get rid of the main person that ruined the friendship that was supposed to turn relationship, Na Jaemin.

But now that he finally had a taste of you in his arms, he thought that maybe he didn't really have to get rid of Na Jaemin. Threatening you by mentioning Jaemin's name was enough to get you to submit. In addition, Jaemin was going to leave anyways. He wouldn't be a bother that much.

So he caved in, feeling you squirm under his touch was heavenly to him. The lower his hands travelled, the more you squirm and the happier he felt. But right when he was about to grip at your waist, someone had a grip on his arm first and before he know it, he was thrown backwards and hitting the car that was parked behind him.

Jaemin wasn't one to typically get angry or use his strength for his own benefits but he can't help it when someone that he found so dear to him in a short amount of time was in danger.

Without thinking, Jaemin took big strides and managed to catch the man's hand, gripping it hard and even kicked the man on the chest, sending the man flying backwards, hitting the car that was parked right across the stall that you were at.

Jaemin then turned to you, his eyes went soft when he saw your scared expression, tears fighting their way out of your eyes and it was only when Jaemin cupped your masked face in his soft hands, using his calming voice to calm you down, did your body relaxed under his touch.

"It's okay. You're okay. I'm here. You're safe with me" Jaemin softly cooed at you as the tears from your eyes finally escaped, Jaemin wiping each one with his thumbs

But Jaemin knew that it wasn't over until this man was put behind bars. At this time, he could care less that he will have to extend his trip as long as he knows that you're safe.

Jaemin whipped his head when heard the groans, immediately putting you behind him at the same time his members came to his side. Jaemin was burning with anger but when the staff came and told him that he can't do this, Jaemin was even more furious.

"I'll don't care about reputation right now. Our fan, my fan, was harassed and you want me to just sit on the sidelines?! I'll deal with the company myself but I want that man behind bars at all cost. I'll pay people to find the evidence needed by myself if I have to. Heck, I'll do it all myself if I have to" Jaemin argued and the man started to get up and flee when the staff called the securities to secure the man and disperse the crowd

"Jaemin..." you breathed out, your breathing finally going back to a normal pace

"Give me your phone number and your full name" Jaemin blurted out, handing you his phone with the contacts section already open

Hesitated, you look at Jaemin and the rest of the neos, even at the staff that they were with. You didn't want them to get into any trouble because of you. You were going to tell him to not get involved, you wanted him and the others to go back, to forget about you, to forget what happened, but Jaemin seemed to have read your mind.

"You're not burdening me. I choose to do this. I chose to help you. If anything, it is my responsibility. You're my responsibility. The second I saw you again after yesterday, I decided that I'll take responsibility to make sure that you're safe. Now type in your number before I ask the festival to find your information" Jaemin stated

After typing in your information. Jaemin made sure to immediately text you for you to save his own number, not forgetting to make you promise to not let anyone know about his number. Before going to their own car, the neos decided to escort you back to your own car. Apologising to your parents that you all were just too into a conversation that you all forgot the time.

"I hope you know that this isn't goodbye. We'll meet each other again. I promise you that. Until then, stay safe" Jaemin whispered, cupping one of your cheeks, caressing it and giving you one last smile before you went into your car and left

Once your car was out of sight, Jaemin and his members went to their own car. Except, Jaemin and Jeno decided to confront the man before he was brought somewhere else.

"I knew I should've gotten rid of you" the man struggled, Jaemin scoffing

"You really think that I'd be scared of you?! Please. My friend and I already knew that there was something off about the elevator before we even went on it. We didn't survive because you saw her go into the elevator with us. We survived because I tweaked it" Jaemin stated, his tone was firm

"You. Nearly. Killed. Her. And I'm not going to let that happen a second time. You'll regret ever having the thought of her all to yourself. I might be the sweet and caring Nana my fans typically see. But I'll be Na Jaemin, the heartless tormentor if it means that those close to me are safe. This won't be the last time we'll meet. But it is the last time you'll see her" Jaemin growled, making the man quiver in fear

A/N: I had no idea how I went a bit off here. Like whilst writing towards the end, I was like, what was I writing but hey those kinds of writing are the fun ones.
