So. We are and Musicals

At least 3 people said they wanted to hear my ramblings about this, so here you have it, a way too long post about what musical I think each we are character would like/fits their vibe. This also works as a rec list. Watch more musicals, people. Also, this incredibly subjective, anyone that has other ideas PLEASE tell me.

Peem

So my beloved main character, goodest boy. With him, I kept thinking about @jojotichakorn headcanon about his favorite artist being Van Gogh, so of course I had to give him Starry.

Its such a beautiful little show. Very simple, very warm. It would have been so easy to take Vincent's story and make it a heartbreaking tragedy, but instead the show is painfully hopeful and makes it about love and beauty and family and art. And that's very Peem I think.

His favorite song from it:

I believe he thinks a lot about what place his art will have in the world, what his legacy will be. I think he would like this, the way Vincent talks about the starry night being very similar to how he talks about the water.

Additionally, I think he would like the golden age musicals, he likes the joyful simplicity of Singing in the rain very charming. Also, he gives me some serious vibes of Alice from Alice by heart. I think it's the way they love so stubbornly and so brightly. Or I'm projecting about two characters I love dearly, it's possible.

Phum

I struggled here because it's Phum. My boy. Who I project every single piece of my personality onto. So of course he doesn't just get one. You knew this was going to happen, be serious.

So my instant thought was Hunchback of Notre Dame. Mostly because Out there is the recognized anthem for isolated kids who feel like they don't fit anywhere, having only inanimate figures around you as your company, but also the cathartic energy of brutally murdering your shitty father figure!! And I do think Phum likes a little tragedy sometimes, in his darker, quiet moments. And therefore his favorite song from this one?

But apparently the theme with Phum is more serious takes on vaguely popular Disney films where the main character is very isolated and longs for family and community and love. Because my second thought was Anastasia. Doesn't he give a little of Anya vibes? Someone who is tough and skittish because of the way they had to grow up, living mostly in their dreams. Also, it's such a lovely little love story that I just know Phum would fucking adore. He cries listening to a Crowd of Thousands, he told me himself. (Also not to say there's an AU there but. I mean)

I mean: Home, Love, Family. Need I say more.

And finally (Yes, he gets 3. Yes, I know) It's mostly because I think he would be a Percy Jackson kid (This is also me projecting). But come on, at the very least, you know he had a little crying and screaming along session to Good Kid. Who hasn't really? It's also my head canon that Phum loves musicals, because you know what having an empty apartment means? Yeah, dramatic karaoke sessions. That condo has seen at least one dramatic rendition of On my own, prove me wrong.

Q

For our Maestro I of course had to bring the big guns, so Sunday in the park with George. Yes, it's mostly for the artist element, but also he does fit the very quiet but also slightly chaotic vibe of the show. He seems like someone who could appreciate the slower pace of the show and the points it makes about art and life. And I was thinking about saying that his favorite song would be Finishing the Hat because once again, artist. But actually whenever I think of this show I think about that thing Sondheim said about always crying when the cast sings “Forever”, about art capturing a trivial moment permanently, so:

I also think he would have a soft spot for the Tick, Tick, Boom movie, which all of you should watch and cry about. (I will always take the chance to talk about this movie)

Toey

So Toey was a hard one, but I think I got it. He is such a fun, sweet, lively character, but there's so many other small things hidden under the surface. Like don't think I forgot about Satang fucking killing everyone with that crying scene, I still can't rewatch that; That bit about him being bullied in school, or the way he discovered his passion through Q and stuck to it and followed to college. That to me goes with Into the woods (And its the other Sondheim in this list, he matches with Q!). It presents itself as “oh fun! Fairy tale retelling” and then the show ends, and you are sobbing processing All That. It's very funny and lively, but when it wants, it punches you. And even though No one is Alone fits We are as a whole very well, I would say his song is this:

Fang

Okay this is the first hear me out but, look. Fang? Fang has catholic guilt. Now, I don't think he was raised catholic, I just think his parents were so bad that he still got it somehow. Maybe is the middle child of it all. He feels like someone that doesn't mind tragedies, he likes something a bit sad, just like Phum. It's the catharsis. And so I give him the underrated show that is Bare: a pop opera. This shit is so sad. I think he could easily relate to both Peter and Jason. He would listen to Warning with tears in his eyes trying to believe that the reason his parents suck is that they don't know how to talk to them, they just don't have the words (he will eventually realize that his parents are more in line with Jason's than with Peter's mom and that's going to hurt). And for his favorite song of course it's the very desperate plea for attention, for something, anything, “I try so hard to please you, but you never seem to see”:

Tan

You know what has the same energy as Tan? You know what can be both sweet and over the top? Legally Blonde. Tell me I'm wrong. This show is so high energy, Elle is constant movement and light, and it could be grating, except it is so earnest and positive that you just can't help but be charmed by her. Just like our boy here. And for the favorite song, I think you have to give him the top tier opening number.

Chain

This one was tough! And I went with a weird choice, but for him, I'm thinking Funny girl. I'm not even sure why, but I think his demeanor feels a little similar to Fanny's especially in the second half of the film. Idk this one is a wild one, but he just feels both funny and resourceful but also has a certain calm to him. Also, we know he has a fondness for ridiculous people. And for the song, well. Dedicating this one to Pun.

Pun

Our wild, kind boy. Hear me out. Ride the cyclone. He has the insane chaotic energy, he has the range, but also I believe he has the heart and the hidden depth. It's very intense and nonsensical and if you do like me and watch it with no context you just spend most of it going “Huh? HUH?” while cackling or crying. And I think that fits Pun. I think he would try to explain it and all the group would be like “yeah that seems wild, it tracks” and then he watches it with Chain, and he is like “… so that was both weirder and sadder than what you said”. Part of me wants to say his favorite song would be Space Age Bachelor Man because it's a trip, but actually, this is more his vibe I think:

Beer

My boy!! My man!! He is so underrated and a bit of the odd one out, so im giving him an extremely underrated musical that is very unique: Anna and the apocalypse. That movie is everything to me. It's a musical! It's a Christmas movie! It's a zombie movie! It's very wild and fun but also very emotional and real in many ways. For all the chaos of its premise, it tends to be very grounded in terms of the characters and their emotions, and I feel like Beer would vibe with it. I'm also heavily projecting. For the song, I choose the bop:

Mick and Matt

I'm putting them together because my logic was kind of the same with both of them, and I think either of these shows would fit them. So first, Holy Musical Batman. Just a very funny, very wild musical about Batman filled with candy puns. Fun, classic, simple. They would enjoy this bop and just how entertaining it is.

Now this one is another hear me out but. Brahmāstra. I know I'm in the minority, but I adored that movie. It's so fun! I often say that it feels a little like a superhero movie, and I think that fits the vibe of these two. Also, it has a cute love story there. And the song is in honor of all the times Mick dances in the show.

Fai

We don't know much about her so I'm giving her We are the tigers, because she is the only female character (apart from Aunt Pui) among all the boys, so let her have a musical with only 1 male character.

Aunt Pui loves Hedwig. She is chaotic enough, I trust her with my favorite musical.

Fang and Phum love ddlj. They grew up watching it and its very much their comfort movie. They watch it whenever they feel a little down and dream of parents that let their kids live their lives.

I kept trying to find a show that went with the vibe of the group as a whole, but i couldn't. I feel like whenever there is a group of friends, by the end at best someone leaves and at worst everyone dies. But I guess Newsies has a little of their vibe. They actually remind me of starkid. Friend group from college that you are incredibly jealous of and a bunch of them are dating, and they have the coolest weddings. And so take this last song as a kind of We are vibe.

You were laying in bed almost falling asleep with that boring movie your little brother insisted on watching ; your phone vibrated, it was Nick sending you a message " pls come to our house and save me from the two straight men they’re annoying 😭😫 " , you laughed at " the two straight men " who Nick referred to describe Matt and Chris , "sleepover ? " you ask " YESSS " Nick replies. You’re so excited , you know the night is going to be fun and suddenly you had a reason to bail on your brother and that awful movie .

After packing a bag with clothes and toiletries you head to your car and drove to the Sturniolo’s house while listening to your favorites artists . You finally arrive after 10 minutes, Nick is already on the porch waiting to welcome you " wow " you think to yourself , the straight men must have really bothered him . You get out of the car and hug Nick who welcome you in . But suddenly you remembered…your stomach started to hurt because of how anxious you were knowing that you were going to see him . You were relieved not seeing him downstairs and maybe thought that he was already asleep but no here he was standing in the kitchen,sitting down on the stool . He got up when he saw you , your heart was beating so fast and your stomach filled with butterflies.

the Words of Power and the incident at Maj are probably the biggest two he's kept, so far. Tysinno also keeps his art to himself, but I wouldn't call it his best kept secret by any means.

technically speaking, Tysinno's never actually been in a romantic relationship prior to Ayla. but he and Red had a mutual crush on each other in the Circle back as teenagers, which was never acted on. they didn't want to ruin their friendship, for one, and Tysinno just... wasn't ready for a relationship, yet. he left the Circle because he was terrified of something happening to another group of people he cared about, and telling Red that he had feelings for him just wasn't something he was ready for then. obviously that ship has sailed by the time SHOH rolls around, but I'd say that's the worst (and only) thing so far?

that, or the mutual crush on Zori when they were kids. poor Zori.

18. Biggest insecurity:

I've mentioned already that he thinks he's bad luck for people, and it remains true. it gets better over time, but it's still very much there. he tends to second-guess his decisions, does that count as an insecurity?

more minor ones: his prominent eye bags, and how bad his nails can look if he's been chewing on them. this is why he wears goggles and brings around a pair of gloves, just in case.

19. Weapon of choice:

healer with a gun! he's no Tallys or Trouble by any means, but his aim isn't half bad. I think he favors magic more often in a fight, though.

20. Role Model:

he looked up to his mother, Hecathe, a lot when he was a kid. I think he also sees Tallys as a role model in some areas, but not enough to really qualify her as one in general?

And heck yeah to being both dsmp and Danny Phantom fan! It's a fun life! I've been desperately trying to pull together a Danny Phantom x DSMP crossover idea because I love both so much. I have SOME vibes for it in my head.

Here's what I've got so far, anyway

Yo, Technoblade he was just 14 when his parents made a very strange machine!

Unlike in Danny Phantom, Techno would be an only child. Which is exhausting. His parents care more about their research than they care about him. And as the kid of the weird scientists, he has NO FRIENDS at school. (That's right, its a No One Knows AU. So much angst potential). He's bullied, poor piggy.

His parents portal doesn't work, so for curiosity sake he goes inside and-oops! The portal to The Ghost Zone opens on top of him, half killing him and giving him ghost powers.

Cue Theme Song.

The fic would be THREE CHAPTERS! NO LONGER THAN THREE!

Anyway, first chapter would be dedicated to Technoblade fighting off the weird musician ghosty with fire powers, Wilbur Soot. Wilbur Soot is using his musical abilities to brainwash everyone into basically worshipping him. DP Technoblade would defeat him by pointing out how cringe it was that Wilbur Soot had to brainwash everyone to even listening to his music. Lame. The dude had 0 confidence in his own music. Wilbur Soot gets super peeved off about this, ready to blast Technoblade's eardrums when Technoblade offhandedly mentions he didn’t need to brainwash everyone anyways. Because his music is good. Wilbur Soot is stopped by that. Wilbur seems legitimately excited that someone enjoys his music without the brainwashing, and Technoblade rolls with it. Wilbur Soot promises to stop with the brainwashing if Technoblade promises to meet up and let him play music for him. Technoblade agrees, but says he can't do it too often because he has so much work keeping the ghosts in line.

Wilbur Soot tells him not to worry about it. He'll handle it.

Suddenly, a lot less ghosts come through the portal.

Chapter 2 sees a different ghost causing issues. At first, Technoblade doesn't see it as an issue. Why should he care that all the adults are listening to some trash discs? It doesn't effect him. And Wilbur Soot seems to get a kick out of absolutely rinsing the music disc at every opportunity, saying it sounded like the artist was "forced to write a song for a child".

Techno's parents wanting to go off on some cruise? Totally fine with him. Less dangerous with his parents not around. And Technoblade is desperate for a break. The ghosts have chilled out quite a bit, but it's hard to do school work AND worry about whether or not your family's water was going to get cut off. He never gets to be a kid.

Which is why he is so annoyed when a child ghost with a pirate ship attacks his house. The kid steals a bunch of Tech from his parents. The kid, calling himself Tommy Innit, is very annoying. Technoblade tries to stop him, but fails.

Something else would go here, but basically all the parents get kidnapped on Tommy Innit's pirate cruise for *reasons* and Techno goes to save them. Only to find a very bored Wilbur Soot dressed as a pirate, and a very exhuberant Tommy Innit speaking like a pirate. Technoblade asks what Wilbur is even doing there, and Wilbur Soot says that he has to humor his little brother sometimes.

Tommy Innit throws all the stops at Technoblade. Canons, guns, swordfighting, swashbuckling, etc. Tommy Innit is have the time of his life (or death). He keeps talking about how fun the whole thing is. Or complaining when Technoblade "cheats". Technoblade is about to lose, when he tells Tommy Innit he can't just shoot him. He needs to make Techno walk the plank. Tommy Innit eagerly agrees, and points him towards the plank. He asks Techno if he has any last words and Techno points out that Wilbur Soot should walk the plank as well. Wilbur Soot is just flabbergasted by that, But Techno points out that Wilbur didn't help at all when his Captain needed him. It was worth walking the plank. Tommy Innit agrees, and tries to get Wilbur to also walked the plank. Wilbur refuses. Techno points out that that means it's a mutiny. Tommy Innit is gleeful at the concept of a mutiny, pointing his sword at Wilbur Soot. Wilbur is not all that amused. Technoblade volunteers his services in bringing the "treacherous snake" down in exchange for not having to walk the plank. Tommy Innit agrees and Technoblade full tackles Wilbur Soot, much to Wilbur Soot's dismay and Tommy Innit's delight. They roll around on the deck for a bit, Techno promising he will make it up to Wilbur if he just plays along. Wilbur gives in and goes overdramatic with it.

Tommy Innit is over the moon. He is having so much fun. Wilbur, why didn't you tell him Techno was so much fun? Technoblade points out that there was no way that all the kidnapped adults were any fun. Tommy Innit hadn't even noticed that they evacuated.

Tommy Innit looks and is upset that all of his prisoners have disappeared. No one ever wants to play with him. Technoblade offers to play with him occasionally, if he would, you know, not kidnap people.

Tommy Innit asks if he can kidnap Techno sometimes, instead, because its funny. Techno agrees, but not more than once a month. He has responsibilities. He can't play all the time.

Tommy Innit Agrees, super happy with the idea.

Suddeny, Technoblade's home no longer has to worry about bills anymore. Huh. Maybe his parents finally started to act like parents. He doesn't really complain when Tommy Innit and Wilbur Soot start monopolizing more of his time.

Chapter 3 Listen, this chapter is going to be Reign Storm. But there is no Vlad character in this AU, so I don't know how to start it. Maybe Techno's parents go into the Ghost Zone and steal the ring of rage? Who knows. But the Ghost King is awake, finally free from the eternal sleep he was forced into. Thousands of ghost refugees pour out of the portal. Technoblade is incredibly concerned that he doesn't see Wilbur or Tommy.

Technoblade is doing his best keeping all of the ghosts from hurting people, plus playing keep away with the giant ghost crows that were trying to return the ring of rage back to the Ghost King. Techno is exhausted, everyone is terrified, his parents are trying to use inventions that might get them killed. He's havinf a bad day.

The ghost king pulls the entire town into the ghost zone.

Technoblade is shocked by the whole thing, terrified with no way to fix it.

And then the Ghost King shows up.

King Philza is intense. Burning crown on his head with regal robes flowing all around. Wings blacked than the night sky raised behind him.

He demands the ring back, or else.

Technoblade chooses the latter.

It's not a close fight at all. Technoblade is tired and the ghost king is POWERFUL, even without the ring. Technoblade is forced to change back into his human form, in front of everyone to see. His secret is out, he's injured, and he isn't able to move out of the crater in the ground the ghost king knocked him into.

The king takes back the Ring of Rage, putting it on his finger. He's even more powerful, which Technoblade thinks is cheating. The Ghost King raises a hand and intends to wipe Techno from existence-

Two figures block the hand. Both start shouting at the Ghost King, incredibly annoyed that their Dad would attack their friend. That Technoblade hasn't even had his first deathday and that Dadza was being a bully.

King Philza is incredibly confused. There is no way that Technoblade hasn't reached his first deathday. He's too powerful. But Wilbur Soot and Tommy Innit insist.

Technoblade is a young ghost and he's like a brother to them.

No actually-

He is their brother.

Technoblade tries valiantly to crawl out of the crater. He is hurt, and can't focus on all of the conversation. One minute he is staring at the remains of the football field-

The next he is staring into piercing blue eyes. He flinches back, but two fingers touch his temple. And then everything is black.

Technoblade wakes in a bed inside Philza's Keep, deep in the ghost zone. He cannot leave, phasing through things doesn't work. He is stuck.

Wilbur and Tommy seem over the moon. Their Dad is finally home and they can play with Techno whenever they want!

King Philza seems indulgent of his sons, but doesn't have a ton of time. It takes time to reprganize the entirety of the Infinite Realms under he control. It takes effort into crushing all resistance.

But he makes it known that his newest son WILL behave. He shows Techno a glass ball, inside containing the entirety of Techno's whole town. It would be so easy to shatter.

Technoblade submits, being hugged tightly by an excited Wilbur and Tommy.

So, yeah, I would love to get around to writing that. Especially fleshing out some of the shakier parts lol. But basically Wilbur is Ember, Tommy is Youngblood, and Phil is Pariah Dark. With a LOT of liberties thrown in!

Another random thought: what’s his self care routine like? We all know how much our boy loves to pamper himself and keep his appearance up 😝 you don’t have to answer if u don’t want! I also just want to say I love your work and you have a gift for writing 💓💓 keep up the amazing work

Lloyd's self care routine beings with his skin. He's not particularly spendy in this department, but he always prioritizes his routine. Lloyd Hansen does not miss a day of skin care - ever. He uses Cetaphil for a cleanser because it's hypoallergenic. This is purely for practical purposes, since he goes through a lot of it. He washes his face every morning, again after his workout, and double cleanses with an oil, and then Cetaphil to rinse it off, at night.

With moisturizer, he's more picky. He likes the Blu Atlas because of the woodsy scent and their high quality ingredients. Unlike the cleanser, which is basically fancy soap, his moisturizer is going to stay on and permeate his skin for hours. So, this is where he spends his money. He uses an eye cream from Blu Atlas, and wishes he'd have started using it earlier.

Lloyd wears facial sunscreen every single day, and makes sure to reapply on the days he golfs. He keeps regular spray on sunscreen in the golf cart for the rest of his body.

He also uses a Niacinamide serum and vitamin C serum in the morning. In the evening, he applies the AlphaRet overnight cream before bed. Lloyd has no intention of wrinkling early, particularly not when he's dating someone so much younger than him.

Also, he's not hesitant to do some dermaplaning, microneedling, or a facial peel now and then. Lloyd sees his dermatologist twice a year for a skin check and preventative care.

First is rock music. He grew up listening to R.E.M., Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana, KISS, and the Beastie Boys. This is the genre he gravitates towards the most. 90s rock is his favorite era, followed closely by 80s rock. For that decade, his favorites are: Queen, Lover Boy, Depeche Mode, and Bruce Springsteen. In the genre, his taste spans a wide variety of artists from ZZ Top to the Rolling Stones and all the way into more pop influenced bands like Cheap Trick and The Outfield. 

Lloyd is also a huge fan of classical music.

He’d never willingly share this fact, but it’s been a coping mechanism of his for a long time. His study hall teacher used to play it during class and he found it really helped him calm down and concentrate. The softer sounds of composers like Bach, Mozart, and Debussy are among his favorites. With time, his taste expanded into underrated composers like Erich Korngold, Alexander Scriabin, and Ottorino Respighi. In terms of minutes listened, classical music is one of Lloyd’s core genres. 

He also enjoys country music. Like his taste for classical music, he sometimes prefers to hide this one. Being around Zach, who also loves country music, tends to bring it out more. His favorites are George Strait, Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks, LeAnn Rimes, and Alan Jackson. He also likes some of the older artists like Ronnie Milsap, Charley Pride, Glen Campbell, Merle Haggard and Eddy Arnold. 

Another genre he listens to is R&B. This stems from being alive in the 90’s. Boys II Men released bangers, okay? Once you heard them on the radio you went looking for more. He likes Alicia Keys, Montell Jordan, Rihanna and Marvin Gaye. His taste in Rap and Hip Hop was developed more in college. It was the popular workout soundtrack of the time and his college football program played it in the weights room. He mostly likes artists like DMX, Eminem, Nas, OutKast, Ice Cube, and Tupac.

Depends on the situation. caffeine purposes? Tea. with a meal? a soda Gun to my head and I had to pick only one to drink for the rest of my life and would be allergic to the rest or wtv. Tea.

dogs or cats?

This is gonna get me kicked out of the cool kids club. I'm a dog person, through and through. I always said I was never gonna get a cat before Maple, and I'm convinced I will not get a cat after Maple. I like cats, I even prefer cats as patients. But I find that they really need a certain personality for me to want to own one. While dogs I would kidnap 99% of them if given the chance.

can you play an instrument?

No I cannot :) I already said the violin story in VC but I'll tell the flute story now! So I started drawing in 6th grade, but in 5th, you had to pick between art and music and stick with it until 8th grade. So I was stuck in a music class when I wanted to be in art, and I'm usually very averse to conflict when it comes to things like that. ANYWAYS. I chose a flute (specifically flûte traversière, but idk the name in English) and I was stuck with that instrument for 2 whole years. You may be asking at this point, how did you pass music class and not know how to play the instrument? I only learned the buttons to press whenever we had a test. During the few concerns I did with that Flute, me and the other girl playing flute legit did not play at all and just spammed buttons. The biggest concert we played was at the high school, and we chewed gum throughout. We were never found out.

favorite place you've traveled

I've traveled decently, and I consider myself lucky that I could. Oddly enough, the spot I'd consider my favorite place is about 40 minutes away. I'm not gonna dox myself publically by saying what it's called because it's legit in the middle of nowhere. But there's a small run-down chapel and an old graveyard nearby, and a gorgeous view of the Bay of Fundy. It smells of sweetgrass in the summer. Whenever I go there I just feel at ease, like all my problems fly away. I've brought most of my favorite people there for picnics, but it's always nearly empty (except when there are powwows) Lemme grab the picture I took of Cedar when we went there last year!

I genuinely don't remember? I don't watch movies that often.

Seen Live?: YES in cincinnati!!!! i got to go with my parents and two of my best friends in the whole world and it was so awesome and fun. it was genuinely the best day of my life and i’d fight wars just to experience it again

Opinion on cover design: honestly it didn’t strike me the right way the first time i looked at it because it’s so simple compared to their other designs. but the more i thought about it the more i realized it fucks severely. like it gave us the classic MCR logo, and the iconic pepe. my 12 year old brain didn’t like the simplicity of it at first but that’s what makes it so unique. the album is a concept as plain as “a guy dies” and the cover reflects that. a little skeleton in a marching band. but the album is so complex and gorgeous and perfect and the skeleton means so much more than that and i just love it SO MUCH

Favorite song: i have to go with this is how i disappear. that song had an absolute chokehold on me in middle school and still does. though the sharpest lives is a close second

Least favorite song: aggfdgg. if i absolutely have to then blood. just because the intro is so long LMFAO i know that’s what makes it a secret track but on shuffle it gets annoying 💔

What is Music if not for Concerts?

Many people who enjoy music usually agree that they either have seen their favorite artist perform live or want to see them live. The reason for this is because people generally feel connected to the artist they see live, or at least more close to. I’m guessing that’s the reason so many Harry Styles fans fly across the country, spending thousands of dollars on him. Honestly, I’m not judging, if I had the means to do that, I would as well; Though for me, it would be to see Machine Gun Kelly play live again. The emotions that poured through my body were overwhelming to say the least.

Over the summer, August 13, 2022, to be exact, I had driven to Cleveland, Ohio to see MGK play a sold out show in the Cleveland Brown’s football stadium, FirstEnergy Stadium. It was amazing, possibly even the best show of my life. It started off with a lot of positive energy, which I think possibly fueled the entire rest of the show. The day was considered “MGK Day”, where there was merch and games and his music playing while he was getting some award from the rock and roll hall of fame. Not to mention, the whole city was turned pink as well, in lue of support to Kells. In addition, the mayor of Cleveland presented MGK with a national day, like MGK Day, every year on August 13th, at Kell’s own coffee shop- 27 Club Coffee located in Cleveland.

To start out, there were 3 “pre-show” events including Willow, Avril Lavigne, and Trippie Redd. A lot of people were freaking out about seeing these live performances, though I only knew like 2-3 songs from each of their sets, so I thought it was just okay, like maybe a 7/10. They were entertaining to watch but I was here for MGK more, if that makes sense. I will say, Trippie’s act was kind of insane. Not only did he blatantly get high on stage from a large blunt, it looked like he would sing a little bit then go back backstage to maybe throw up and then rally a bit more. He was also like “wow I’m really fucked up right now” to the crowd as well, making it to me, seem like he just didn’t really care about his fans. It was still entertaining though a plus. 

Finally, MGK is up to play. By this point, I’m getting a second hand high from the people in front of us smoking, which you know, makes sense given the crowd. Anyways, the board begins to play a video of a pilot of a helicopter as his stage has a pink helicopter strapped to the top. Born with Horns begins to play AS HE IS COMING OFF A LADDER FROM A REAL LIFE HELICOPTER. It was purely epic and Ithink it was a great way to start his show.

He then began to sing his hit songs from both tickets to my downfall and mainstream sellout. In between the songs he would tell a little story, something like this song is for so-and-so and I really want you guys to feel the emotion. I really love this part of the show because it felt like I was really connected to him and everyone singing along made it feel like I was less alone. I think also he did a really good job with his stage presence, while going between a couple hit songs on Binge and Hotel Diablo, he Zip-lined from the top of the stadium to the bottom wearing a Cleveland Browns Jersey with the logo XX on it. The logo stands for everyone stands together and he calls it his XX mob, which basically means we love you for who you are, we don’t care what differences you have as a person, let's embrace them because you’re amazing. I think this can be seen through the way he brings the crowd together; it just feels like a family. 

In addition to the zip line he also had three outfit changes, smashed a wine glass on his head, performed with Travis Barker and climbed a pillar as he was singing. To me this feels like he’s really dedicated to a show and really dedicated to pulling something together that his fans would like. I think that’s one of the reasons people really relate to his music is because he put so much effort into his lyrics that people feel connected enough to engage with him as a person; that’s why he puts on the shows that he does and I think that’s why people especially men leave a concert feeling loved and less alone.

Reading this you must be thinking, “wow she really loved the show” and yes that is correct, I did.However, I wanted to share my favorite part. My favorite part was when he’s about to sing Twin Flame, which is his ending song; he looks out into the crowd, because he knows his daughter is there, and is like “wow make some noise for my beautiful daughter” and starts praising her which is extremely cute and makes me think he’s such a good father. This is especially cute because the song he sings is about the loss of an unborn child from his fiancé Megan Fox, and how much he loves and cares about his family. Praising his daughter and letting her know that she’s loved before playing this song just goes to show how having to abort an unborn child affects an entire family. I think it just shows his personality really well;  it seems like he is a person who has many layers- he grew up poor, got kicked out before 17, parents died and tried to sell his music on tapes to make a name for himself. He should be proud of himself and I don't think he really was until he saw his hometown stadium sold out. It was incredible to see. 

Like I said before, that was one of my favorite concerts. MGK played beautifully and sang his heart out. It was fun singing along and feeling like I was a part of a big family. I will 100% be seeing him live, even if that means spending money I don't quite have.

Diligent Blog # 1

Here's some music from my childhood! These are from forms of media that have a OST or soundtrack that I think is a good listen. When writing this, I started off listing music that I liked with no criteria, and it got too long for my liking. So, this list only includes stuff from 10 or more years that I watched/played.

There's probably more.. but I don't remember them right now.

Anime/Animation

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters - I think I enjoyed every soundtrack, but I know that the english theme song slaps. I don't care what anyone says, the voice actors and soundtracks created for english dub is iconic. Joey Wheeler is iconic. Everyone in this children's show about a card game is iconic. Even Tristan.

Barbie - Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper, Barbie and the Diamond Castle. nostalgic, screams to my girly soul. Lots of fond memories with them.

Kung Fu Panda - The first movie.

Pokemon The First Movie - Mewtwo Strikes Back (1999) - The American version. I don't know enough about music theory, but the leitmotif((s)?)) used for this movie? Perfection.

Dramas

My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho - this is a korean drama from 2010. It made me very happy when the OST was finally available on spotify.

Iljimae (2008) - a historical korean drama. It is, to this day, a drama I highly favor. The soundtrack created for it is beautiful and is used so well with the scenes from the drama. It is probably a huge factor on why I enjoyed it so much.

You're Beautiful (2009) - unrelated but I had a childish crush on one of the characters, Jeremy. Which in turn lead me to have a crush on the actor, Lee Hong Ki. He is the lead vocalist for the band F.T. Island.

Artists/Musicians/Bands

Vocaloid Producers - wowka, ryo, hachi (Kenshi Yonezu), DECO*27, Neru , there are songs from other producers but they are the most memorable ones to me. I don't follow vocaloid anymore, though I still like to revisit the older songs.

K-Pop 2nd Generation to Early 3rd Generation- 2NE1, Girls Generation (SNSD), TEEN TOP, SHINee, Wonder Girls, Brown Eyed Girls, these are only a few mentions. Second generation of kpop is from 2005 to like 2011. The times back then for K-pop were a little more... vibrant if I remember it right. Experimental, eccentric and stark eye liner, but with matching iconic songs. The ones I can recommend off the top of my head are 'I Got A Boy' from Girls Generation. That one is fun. I heard someone describe it to be similar to Bohemian Rhapsody with it's organized chaos. SHINee 'Replay' and- y'know what here: Old Legendary Kpop Songs.

Games

Persona 4 - I started with Persona 4 with a game play video on Youtube. I remember downloading my favorite soundtracks (shout out to Youtube To MP3) to listen to on my way to school when I finally owned a phone like 3 years later. Can you believe I haven't played the game itself until last year?

Super Mario Bros Melee - The only 3-ish consoles I ever had when I was young were the game cube, Wii and the 3ds. I am listing this one because unfortunately, I never got to play any of the independent games that the soundtracks were from even though I heavily enjoyed them.

Sonic Heroes - The sound effects along with the stage themes really scratched an itch somewhere in my brain. I never got to finish it though. I didn't have that save thing for the game cube so I played every game the furthest I could until it powered off. That means I never got to unlock all the characters for melee.

Super Mario Galaxy - I finished this one! What I said for this is short but the soundtrack is wonderful.

I answered Double Life over here, but Ash is a former street kid turned tattoo artist!

She arrived to Night City when she was fairly young, so she spent many years making a name for herself as both a criminal and a mercenary. She may be old, but she's not dead yet, so you won't be finding any drinks in her honor at The Afterlife. Claire does know her order though. Ash may not be a merc anymore, but it's always good to have connections. Never know when you'll need 'em!

Chippin' In: Out of the in-game radio stations, what's your S/I's favorite radio station? In general, what kind of music do they like? Do they stay up to date with new tracks or do they like the classics?

89.7 GROWL FM BABY!!!!! And I'm not just saying that because the DJ is also named Ash. It's my favorite radio station, and that definitely extends to my S/I too.

It has all kinds of songs in it of so many different genres. It's totally unpredictable. Just like Ash! Ash likes music that she can get lost in, but she's also quite old. Being in her 70s, Ash has a soft spot for the classics, rock and techno from the 10s and 20s. That being said, she's very open to new music. Night City is a real shitshow of a place, so it makes her happy to see that at least the passion and soul of its people live on through its music. That's one thing corporations can't take away.

Queen of the Highway: What's your S/I's preferred form of transportation? Do they have a sweet ride that they love to bits and pieces, or a tired ol' ride that's barely hanging out? Or none of those at all and prefer the metro or just going on foot?

Back when Ash was a merc, she had this motorcycle that she absolutely adored. That old guy has taken her through the Badlands and across Night City thousands of times. It's rough and it's beat-up now, but Ash still has it! Part of me wants it to be an unlockable item for V, but the other part of me feels like Ash wouldn't want them trashing her precious! V already gets her gun as a quest item!

But these days, she doesn't ride that bike around too often. Only if she's heading to the Badlands for some reason or some really big shit went down is when she'll hop on her old ride. These days, though, she's really only leaving the Clinic to grocery shop or go to her place or go see V. She's not driving around with the intention of flatlining gonks anymore!

Because of that, she tends to just like walking or taking the metro. She also gets to people-watch that way, and that's a hobby she quite enjoys. That being said, in her sidequest, there's a scene where she drives you around in her car! Despite having plenty of eddies, her car is nothing fancy. It's fairly simple and a little old, but still drives just fun.

All in all, Ash isn't too nuts about her rides. Her beloved motorcycle that served as her loyal steed back in her merc days doesn't see too much action anymore, but maybe that's for the best. She has a car she drives around whenever she needs to drive long distances for more casual things (like the Beat in the Brat sidequest! You see her with Vik there in the last match!), but she's not against taking the metro or just walking sometimes.

Her job doesn't involve a lot of traveling, so she has no need for super fancy vehicles! She has them and uses them when she has to, but there's a certain charm to walking around in Night City. For a place called Night City, it never seems to sleep. It's a shitty place, but it's her shitty place.

The Clash

The Clash is the definitive British punk band, often referred to as "the only band that matters" during the height of its success. My father raised me on this band and it is very near and dear to my heart. The Clash taught me important lessons in the importance of fighting against oppression and in becoming a more decent person. Some of my favorite songs of The Clash include "The Guns of Brixton", "Lost in the Supermarket", "Rock the Casbah", and "This is England". However, their greatest song is "Spanish Bombs" from the London Calling album. This song is criminally underrated and I encourage everyone to give it a shot.

The English Beat

This band is actually called The Beat, but goes by the name The English Beat in the States because there was already a different band holding the rights to their original name here. "Special Beat Service" is definitely their best album and is great to turn on in the background. This band is defined by their reggae style and frequent use of the saxophone. My favorite song of The English Beat is "Sole Salvation", although I love their cover of "Can't Get Used to Losing You" as well. Fun fact, the instrumental version of their song "Rotating Heads" is used in the sequence of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" in which the titular character is racing to get home before his father.

Galen & Paul

Galen & Paul is a joint venture between Galen Ayers and former bassist Paul Simonon. When Mr. Simonon joined The Clash, he had no prior musical experience, so he is a bit of an idol for me in that he has shown me that it's never too late to learn music. Galen & Paul is a relatively recent collaboration and has only been around for about a year. They have released two albums, "Can We Do Tomorrow Another Day?" and "Uno Más" (although the latter is only four songs, which I am pretty sure are tracks that didn't make the cut for the first album). Their music, for the most part, has very cozy, lonely, spooky, and damp vibes? Overall, I was less impressed with "Uno Más", but the song "One More For the Road" from the album is in contention for the title of being their best work.

Elvis Costello

If you know me well, there is a pretty good chance you have heard me mention Elvis Costello. Costello is easily my favorite musical artist of all time. He is a world class lyricist, writes incredibly beautiful music, and has one of the most distinctive voices and style I can think of. I discovered Costello through his hits "Pump It Up" and "Radio Radio" and while these are very good songs, they are not even his best. This man has four albums where I enjoy every single song. Every. Single. Song. His skill as a musician is actually out of this world. I cannot even list my favorite tracks of his here because there would be too many. I can say that his album "Imperial Bedroom" is criminally underrated and I cannot recommend it enough. "My Aim Is True", "This Year's Model", and "Armed Forces" might be more enjoyable for some though. I was fortunate enough to see Costello live in Dallas as part of his 7-0-7 tour. Please, give Costello a chance. If you like Radiohead, Tho Yorke cited Costello as a huge influence on their album "OK Computer".

9. What CD did you play to death as a kid?

Shania Twain's Up (Red Version)! Shania and Brittney were two of the artists I was allowed unsupervised. I would listen to Eminem, Guns n Roses, and Metallica in mom's car; I'm pretty sure we burnt out Curtain Call in her old Acura.

26. Did you enjoy high school?

I did when I hit end of Sophomore year, just transitioning into Junior - from then on I had fun! That's when I was doing Honors Choir, All County & State, Musicals, and my class schedule loosened up + I got Pumpkin, so I had much more freedom.

Oh GOD - yesterday it was Bo Burnham's 'Country Song' but today it's Nightcrawler by Judas Priest.

38. What’s your favorite flower?

Oh I love them all! I'm not picky with flowers, but I do have a special place in my heart for roses, baby's breath, and daisies. (Also tulips)

45. Are you a romantic?

Yeah! Big and little R romantic.

46. Do you have any tattoos or want to get one?

I do! I have a caduceus on my left forearm with the words 'Type One Diabetic' in pretty cursive. I do want more though! I want a black and white lineart one of the Rider-Waite 'High Priestess' card on my left shoulder/bicep area. I also want, on my right elbow area, some bats! Then, on the inside of my left bicep, I want the words: 'Sempre Avanti' in a pretty script. I also found one that's an eye surrounded by clouds - it looks fucking cool - that I want on the back of my right calf. Also maybe a moon right beneath my ear? Undecided on that one.

Eventually, and I try not to think about it bc it makes me sad, I want Fluffy's pawprint on my right shoulder blade too.

Popping gum, or people eating with their mouth open.

67. Do you often dream or have nightmares that you remember when you wake up?

I do! I have like three separate notes pages on my phone where, after I wake up, I go to write down my dream. I take screenshots of that, afterward, so I can look at them properly later and copy them into my dream journal for analysis, and just, ya know, fun.

Most of the time I remember them, thankfully, bc that's how I get messages. The Universe Says Things to Help, and I am so incredibly grateful for it.

i feel like she is a very sentimental person, so she would try to take you somewhere special to her/the both of you

but being put in prison and going through everything she went through, she was very guarded
