Written for @babacontainsmultitudes <3
You fold your hands together, let them rest on your lap, and inhale and exhale deeply. You can do this. You can do this. It’s a mantra you repeat to yourself, as surely and studiously as you once told yourself everything was going to be O-A-K, as fervently as you once begged yourself to believe your childhood wasn’t slipping away from you and turning into an adult didn’t make everything so complicated. Today, you will try to set aside the burden of adulthood and channel your youthful dreams and wishes again, hoping they will be the key to unlocking a particular kind of magic you’ve struggled with for too long a time. Today, you will become a wolf.
Or, Sparrow reflects on his magic, his family, and himself, and why none of it seems to be working out.
Cute bonus thing under the cut ;)
Here is a little sad love wolf doodle from my amazing wonderful precious girlfriend <3 They made this while I was being dramatic over making a summary for this

hey everybody do you want to have a quick chat about what you think "Geek Rock" music even is. Is the term more descriptive of the artists themselves, or the fanbase around the band. Do you consider it legitimate and validating, or vague and derogatory. Is it more about the lyrics, or the way the sound is arranged. Do you think it describes artists who dress like they work at an accounting firm, or is more applicable to artists who dress like they shop at the lost and found. Who is the first band/artist that comes into your head when you hear the phrase "Geek Rock".

Localization discourse has cropped up again on Twitter, and someone posted a few before and after screenshots of an Echoes mod that retranslates the game to be more faithful to the original JP script, with that same person claiming that all the mod does is remove all the personality and charm 8-4 added to the dialogue; for reference, here's the lines they're referring to:
Lukas (EN): But just once, i should like to be red with rage, green with envy... Something!
Lukas (JP): But still, i've never been caught up enough to lose control of myself...
Clair (EN): Do i not deserve better than these trite gambits of yours?
Clair (JP): That kind of behavior is very hurtful towards the one it is directed at.
Clair (EN): If that crass phrase means you wish to speak with me, then please proceed.
Clair (JP): Oh, Dyute. What is it?
I can somewhat get why people could see the first change as just being a less interesting way of getting across Lukas' lines about struggling with not feeling enough emotions (though even then i'd argue that changing the lines from him being dejected and resigned at his emotional struggles to him being actively angry about them is a decently big change to his character and not just "oh they worded it in a more interesting way"), but i really don't get how people can argue that Clair's localized lines aren't blatantly rewriting her character; her criticism of Gray being changed from "your behavior hurts people and you should stop because of that" to "your behavior hurts me and you should stop because i'm your superior and deserve better than to be toyed with by the likes of you", along with her greeting to Delthea being changed from "oh hi, what's the matter?" to "if that gross phrase means you want to talk to me, then i suppose i can grant you the privilege of a conversation" doesn't make the dialogue any wittier, it's just making Clair into more of a spoiled brat than she was intended to be originally.
You ruined my day with this :(
(i know this is an old ask, but I forgot it in my drafts!)
I thought FE15's localisation was nice, but granted, I didn't have access to the JP script (nor JP audio!), but now I wonder if the schtick "nobles vs commoners" wasn't overplayed in the lolcalised version, which in turn, would kind of explain why some people felt cheated by Alm's reveal -
Even if I always took it as "being a noble has nothing to do with birth" didn't meant Tobin as a peasant could become a noble and have a noble heart, but meant that even if you are born a noble with super special powers or not, being a noble character only falls on you, and the actions you take : Alm rescues random women (FE15 for you!) around at the cost of his mission/safety/etc, when Berkut, who is noble-born just like Alm, hunts peasants and burns his fiancée.
8-4 adding more "Nobles BaD" feels in touch with what ultimately happened with Fodlan, even if while the FE series already tried to dip its toes in this water with Ike, his "nobles BaD" ultimately amounted to childish tantrum and refusal to deal with "complicated things" when you realise and learn what kind of people he's working with, and their responsabilities.
In a way, I can understand the people being annoyed that the mod removed the "additions" brought by 8-4 if they really made the characters more memorable - but my stance will always be to be able to choose if you want to put parmesan on your pasta or not.
8-4!Clair is a spoiled and snob brat - but can't we get the choice to get a Clair without parmesan?
You know what, I'm thinking FEH's decision (in 2017!) to, uh, not include dual audio was due to the supposed limitations of the app, but imo, was also amde with the dubbing/US!VA industry in mind because, imagine the players from FE14-FE15 having characters who, by tone alone, are different from the ones they're used to, what kind of message would that send to players? You've played the parmesan!version of those games?
And to be clear, I like my pasta carbonara with heavy cream because I'm french and cream is life.
And yet, IDK, maybe that's just me, but I think I'd feel a bit out of the loop if I was thrown in game that celebrates a franchise I never played, since the games I played were... heavily "localised" to catter to my tastes and overplayed issues that weren't there because I'd maybe like this theme more than what was initially presented.
Cultural differences are a thing, but Crayon Shin-Chan is meant to be watched, in japan, by children in primary school.
OD's Crayon Shin Chan is basically japanese!Family Guy.
We had the "same" heavily lolcalisation back in the days here, with French!City Hunter ("Nicky Larson") and French!Hokuto no Ken ("Ken le Survivant"), and while in the 80s-90s some people still harped that those were the "real deal", with time it became more and more widely accepted that Nicky Larson and Ken le Survivant were... products that were lolcalised to fit with the regulations of that time (no blood for children! no swear words - when the regular french person says "merde" at least 10 times per day) - but if you were to go and interview the authors of those mangas, they wouldn't have a clue about what you're talking about with your french "dessins animés".
(granted, I've heard that recently, during a convention, both the author of City Hunter and Hokuto no Ken were surprised but pleased that even if it was lolcalised to oblivion, their work was so appreciated here!)
With modern FE though, I feel like FEH has to pretend that Nicky Larson and Ryo Saeba from City Hunter are the same person - so they will put Ryo in a fridge and call Nicky Larson "Ryo Saeba".
I mean, that's what we got with Halloween!Rhage - who roars using her special, and yet winks in her artwork because the artwork was commissioned by the people who designed/came up with Rhea, not with Rhage - and here, with your examples, with Clair.
Clair is a young noble lady, who as you pointed out with those lines, is a well mannered noble who doesn't hurt nor is looking down on people from lower birth, eons away from the "oujou who only means well" trope we ended up with with 8-4.
At the end of the day, people are free to enjoy whatever they want, let it be 8-4!Clair of Jp!Clair - but I'll have the same opinion as I always did regarding localisation : was it really up to 8-4 to change her characterisation this way? Are they still localising or swapping Jp!Clair with a brand new character of their creation?
If so, can this still be called localisation?
#sealofreconciliation#lolcalisation issues#I get that it's a very complicated work and it's easy to criticise behind your computer#and yet there's no reprieve from people who lived in the 2000s#Sure the anime expended on it because anime is different from the manga#but Katsuya Jonouichi was changed from Joey Wheeler from Brooklyn#Japanifornia is a term that was coined up by all this need to lolcalise even when it doesn't make sense#Localising isn't as easy as putting words in google translate#and yet I think 8-4 inserting their character in FE15 is not localisation#that's what we got with Fates and the differences between characterisation in the JP and US versions#it happened to a lesser degree with FE Fodlan#but there's still this discrepency between the og source material aka H!Rhea winking and throwing cookies#and Leigh's Rhage lines to go with that image#maybe as a non US person all this US localisation pisses me more#because the french localisation is either loltastic or at times and recently closer to the jp script which leaves me with more 4kids feels#sure you can always have the argument that if you can't understand the source material you have to use a proxy#but hey your proxy isn't even my native language so why should I use yours if something else is available?#even if what is available is crap and yet still manages to make me understand that your proxy isn't only a proxy but basically your takes#and your inserts in what the game isn't originally saying?#tbh I called out Rhage before the Halloween!alt especially with her lines about Willy in Tru Piss#Sure I couldn't understand a crap that was being said but by tone alone? the Rhea I couldn't understand felt like a very different characte#compared to Rhage#then friends translated the lines and I read that TV Tropes thing and found out Leigh's interview where she says#Pat told her to act in a certain way#and the rest is history#what is good localisation from what is lolcalisation always depends imo on what you want#and yet i think after a certain era people are more critical of what they consume#especially since the internet existing means people can check the og script and find out what was modified#sometimes it sucks and you have a dude writing 10k words about toxic masculinity because he didn't understood what 'boku' meant#and yet sometimes you have people finding out the lolcalisation turned someone saying Church GooD in Church BaD for no reason

personally i think they should have leaned into the reinfield thing a little more with willie loomis. not like they tried to do after he came back from wyndcliff though, god no. What I'm trying to say is i think if any actor on dark shadows was prepared and dedicated enough to eat a bug on national tv it was john karlen.

i hate when old guys at work try to debate me, not about historic perspectives, but about, like, how the boat works.
not the period accuracy of the boat, no. the logic of how it's set up. like at least once a month someone's smug dad tells me that it's stupid that the wheel is at the aft of the ship. there are a few other things they'll debate me on, but the wheel being in "the wrong place" is the biggest one. they want it to be in the front so bad, and I try politely to explain that the wheel is connected by ropes to the tiller and the rudder, which are in the aft, so the wheel is also in the aft.
they will argue with the logic of this in their own varying ways, but always as if they think that putting the wheel in the aft of an 18th century merchant ship was my idea, and if they just explain to me why their ideas are better, i, a tour guide born in the 1990s, will see reason and retroactively change the way boats were made 250+ years ago.

My favorite Kingdom Hearts fact is that one of the biggest plot-holes that Nomura has never been able to meaningfully retcon or write his way out, a plot-hole so big that it fundamentally breaks the very rules the series is written on...
Is the existence of Steamboat Willie
Tumblr media
Let me explain for the uninitiated:
In Kingdom Hearts 2, there’s a small detour in the story involving Maleficent trying to invade Disney Castle, the home of King Mickey. She can’t step foot in the castle due to an artefact of pure light that wards off darkness locked in the basement.
Pete, who is working for Maleficent, opens a door into the past (Before Disney Castle, this land was known as Timeless River) and decides to remove the artifact from it’s place in time so it won’t be there to stop them from getting in.
Sora, Donald, and Goofy chase Pete into the past thanks to another magic door provided by Merlin, and through some shenanigans involving old cartoons and teaming up with Pete’s past-self, they lock the door the villains are using, and return the artefact to it’s proper place so it can exist in the present.
You with me so far? Pretty straightforward-ish time-travel plot right?
Here’s where it goes off the rails.
Time travel would go on to become a staple of Kingdom Hearts going forward and would come with a very strict set of rules over how it operates:
1. You can only travel to a point in time where a version of yourself exists
2. You basically give up your body to do so, and travel as a disembodied soul unless you have a vessel to inhabit
3. You can’t alter the past in a meaningful way, what’s going to happen will happen
4. You lose your memories of said trip once you return, but your actions could leave a lingering instinct on your other self that could influence their decisions
“Wait” you may be thinking “Why should anyone go through all those hoops? Wasn’t time travel super simple that first time?”
And you’d be totally right, because the existence of Timeless River completely renders all of these rules and restrictions meaningless.
There is no version of Sora that existed in Timeless River before he step foot there, everyone kept their bodies, the trio and Pete were able to mess with the timeline as freely as they pleased, and they all very much remember their trip.
Nomura has never been able to meaningfully explain this super simple, easy way of time travel and the more convoluted method co-existing other than a cheap-throwaway line from one of the villains saying that Merlin “broke the rules”
Tumblr media
The hilarious part about this line is that it implies that PETE of all characters is actually more powerful than the actual villain of the series, because Pete opened a door into Timeless River through sheer willpower and nostalgia for “the good old days”
But the all-knowing chess-master of a villain who had an evil plan several decades in the making with countless moving parts and contingencies to account for had to use the roundabout, more complicated method of time travel where a lot could go wrong.
Pete though? Dude just casually broke all the rules of time travel because he felt like it. He's just built different.
Tumblr media
TL;DR: Steamboat Willie breaks Kingdom Hearts lore in half, Pete is more powerful than Master Xehanort, and I fucking love this beautiful trainwreck of a series you guys it means so much to me
I love Kingdom hearts so much.

I see a lot of people clowning on the people of Pelican Town for not repairing the community center themselves or clowning on Lewis for embezzling and. like. Those criticisms aren't entirely unfair. But I think instead of coming at it from a perspective of "why can't the townspeople do this" we should be asking "why and how can the farmer do this?"
Like. Think about it. The farmer arrives in Stardew Valley on the first day of spring. By the first day they're obviously different. By day five the spirits of the forest who haven't been seen by the townsfolk in years or generations are speaking to them. By the second week they've developed a rapport with the wizard that lives outside town.
In the spring they go foraging and find more than even Linus, who's spent so many years learning the ways of the valley. Maybe he knows, when he sees them walking back home. Maybe he looks at them and understands that they're different, chosen somehow.
In the summer they fish in the lakes and the ocean for hours on end, catching fish that even Willy's only ever heard of, fish that he thought were the stuff of legend. They pull up giants from the deep and mutated monstrosities from the sewers.
In the fall, their crops grow incredibly immense; pumpkins twice as tall as a person, big enough that someone could live inside. The farmer cuts it down with an axe without even batting an eye. Does Lewis wonder, when he checks the collection bin that night and finds it full to the brim with pumpkin flesh? What does he think? Does he even leave the money? Does he have the funds to pay the farmer millions of dollars for the massive amounts of wine they sell? Or is it someone--something--else entirely?
In the winter, the farmer delves into the mines. No one in Pelican Town has been down there in decades. No one in living memory has been to the bottom. The farmer gets there within the season. They return to the surface with stories of dwarven ruins and shadow people, stories they only tell to Vincent and Jas, whose retellings will be dismissed by the adults as flights of fancy. People walking by the entrance to the mines sometimes hear the farmer in there, speaking in a language no one can understand. Something speaks back.
The farmer speaks to the the wizard. They speak to the spirit of a bear inside a centuries-old stone. They speak to the shadow people and the dwarves, ancient enemies, and they try to mend the rift. They speak to the Junimos, ancient spirits of the forest and the river and the mountain. They taste the nectar of the stardrops and speak to the valley itself. They change Pelican Town, and they change the valley. Things are waking up.
And what does Evelyn think? She's the oldest person in the valley; she was here when the farmer's grandfather was young. (How old *is* she, anyway? She never seems to age. She doesn't remember the year she was born.) Does she see the farmer and think of their grandfather? Does she try to remember if he was like this too, strange and wild and given the gifts of the forest?
And does their grandfather haunt the valley? He haunts the farm, still there even after his death; his body died somewhere else, but his spirit could never stay away for long. Does Abigail, using her ouija board on a stormy night, almost drop the planchette when she realizes it's moving on its own? Does Shane, walking to work long before anyone else leaves their house, catch glimpses of a wispy figure floating through the town? Does the farmer know their grandfather came back to the place they both love so much?
Mr. Qi takes interest in the farmer. He's different, too; in a different way, maybe, but the principles are the same. They're both exceptional, and no matter what Qi says about it being hard work and dedication, they both know the truth: the world bends around the both of them, changing to fit their needs. Most people aren't visited by fairies or witches. Most people don't have meteorites crash in their yard. Most people couldn't chop down trees all day without a break or speak to bears and mice and frogs.
The farmer is different. The rules of the world don't work for them the way they work for everyone else. The farmer goes fishing and finds the stuff of fairy tales. The farmer goes mining and fights shadow beasts and flying snakes. The farmer looks at paths the townspeople walk every day and finds buried in the dirt relics of lost civilizations.
The farmer is a violent, irrepressible miracle, chosen by the valley and destined to return to it someday. Even if they'd never received the letter, they would've come home.
They always come home eventually.

Dungeon Meshi Episode 7 was super interesting from an adaptation standpoint - this'll be a little different from what I usually write about (though I do still talk about the animation in the full video).
Tumblr media
Studio Trigger have never done a straight-up manga adaptation before - and led by Yoshihiro Miyajima, a big fan of the manga who pushed hard for the adaptation to get made, and who has never directed a full series before, it was unclear if they'd be able to find the right balance between a simple panel-for-panel recreation and making something that's completely different.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And in the first few episodes, you could really feel the tension between the influence of a cautious young creative with great respect for the source material, and a studio with a unique established visual style. It kinda seemed like they were ping-ponging willy-nillily between the two sides of that spectrum.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But this episode showed that Miyajima (and series writer Kimiko Ueno) can take 3 chapters, slice them up and rearrange them into a cohesive-feeling episode while taking into account the differences between screen and page, and using them to their advantage.
Starting with the way the water looks. This line from the manga describes a faint magical glow to the water in this lake and you can see that the cavern fades into darkness above, but Kui's illustration style doesn't really define lighting and shadows very much compared to the cel-drawing style of animation. So the animators took the opportunity to use the water as the light source, and make a whole episode that's lit almost entirely from below. It really gives an otherworldly feeling to this area.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Particularly when the Kelpie shows up, that under-lighting works wonders to define its anatomy within the relatively simple line art.
Tumblr media
What do you do when you can't show the immense fuck-off scale of a monster with a beautiful full-page spread like this?
Well you use what you do have: the ability to move the camera instead. This is such a great way to communicate the scale of this thing, AND such a great way to show some of Senshi's anime-original butt-cheeks!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is one of my favorite shots from this episode - this whole sequence is super hectic, cutting quickly from character to character, but they use tricks like this to keep you from getting confused. This is framed much like it is in the manga, but with the moving image, they're able to use the trajectory of the fish head in the background to lead your eye directly from Chilchuck, right to the point where Senshi pops up in the foreground and transition seamlessly from one character to another!
Tumblr media
Now, it's not all good - I am a bit disappointed that they removed Marcille's own Senshi-style soap-making montage, which was the perfect visual representation of the culmination of the character development and understanding built between Senshi and Marcille.
Tumblr media
It's a shame to see it go.
I get more into that, what else was cut, and much more in this video where I broke down the entire episode!
Check it out if you feel like it. If you don't, jump in a ditch, cover yourself in leaves and jump out at people as they walk by.
Thanks for reading!

★ sleepy domestic sex with him ft. toji ! ★

˖˚₊ wc ⋆. 𐙚 ˚ 1.3k
Tumblr media
“mphm...” toji grumbled as he woke up. as soon as his sleepy, hazy green orbs fluttered open, his first instinct was to tighten the tender but firm hold he had around your soft body.
he nuzzled his nose in your neck, inhaling your comforting, feminine scent. he loved the scent of your conditioner. or maybe it was your shampoo ?
he didn't know.
the only thing he was aware of was the heavenly scent of it. it smelled soft— just like you. if he focused enough, he could even recognize a subtle hint of vanilla.
he slowly let go of your sleeping form, trying his best not to wake you up. he sat up groggily, groaning as he did so before rubbing the back of his head in an almost confused way as he tried to get his bearings.
he braced himself onto his hands, yawning loudly, without even bothering to cover his mouth. “mhm...” he sighed, squeezing his eyes shut for a second.
just as he was about to stretch his sore, achy muscles, he felt something stir behind him.
you.
a few seconds later, he relaxed, tense shoulders slumping as your small, delicate hand rested on his broad back. “toji...” he felt himself take a deep breath as you mumbled his name, as if he was taking in your voice. he could hear how your deep, peaceful slumber affected you by the way you breathed out the syllables.
“yeah ?” he muttered, searching to get rid of the tendrils of sleep that were still clinging to his body. “where are you goin' ?” he didn't know himself but— “probably the kitchen... why ?”
you sat up as well before wrapping your arms around his neck. “stay with me... don't wanna get out of bed.” you mumbled before leaving lazy, small kisses along his jawline. he huffed softly and placed his large hand around your waist. “yeah ? don't wanna get out o' bed, huh ?"
you shook your head a little before laying back down, tugging him with you. he rolled over and climbed on top of you, tucking his head into your neck. “guess i won't let my doll alone, then.” he grumbled against your skin before placing a kiss under your lobe.
you were tired. really tired. you just wanted to go back to sleep in toji's arms but it never turned out the way you wanted.
not with toji.
he hummed before he began rolling his hips into yours. he huffed as he felt you reciprocate the movements, grinding back against him.
toji was only wearing grey sweatpants. he wasn't even wearing boxers underneath as he didn't bother to put some on last night.
the thin fabric of his sweatpants barely stopped his hardening length from rubbing against your clothed heat. it barely even concealed how his cock throbbed under his pants.
you were only wearing panties. he liked that. it wouldn't be a hassle to slide them down your thighs.
“toji...” you breathed out, sliding your hands into his messy hair. he hummed and grabbed one of your hands with his larger one before bringing it to his lips. he allowed his knuckles to brush along your knuckles. “mhm ?” he tilted his head lazily, tracing your lovely features with his eyes.
as he continued to slowly grind against you, he leaned down to plant a kiss at the corner of your rosy lips. “need you...” he chuckled lazily. “yeah ? what d'you want, dollie ?”
you whined softly, too shy to say it out loud. he knew it. he just wanted to tease you. “huh ? c'mon, say it, baby. s'just me.” you sighed, brushing your nose along his jawline. “want you...” you mumbled, despite knowing that he wouldn't tolerate your answer. “nah... what d'you want, dollie ?” he repeated.
you huffed cutely, which earned a small chuckle from your man's lips. “want your cock...” he smirked lazily and hummed. “there you go...” he whispered. “that's what my pretty girl wants, huh ? guess i'll give it to her, then.”
he sat back on his knees and rolled your panties down your thighs, leaving them there. he parted your legs for him and settled in between them before tugging his sweatpants down, freeing his leaky cock. his tip was already spurting precum, the droplets landing onto the sheets. “shit... m'sorry, gonna clean that later.”
he left his sweatpants around his legs, just exposing the essentials. he huffed as he pressed his tip against your warm hole before slowly sliding in. “fuck...” he cursed under his breath. "there we go...” he mumbled as he finally bottomed out.
he slowly laid his weight on top of you, being mindful not to crush you. "you okay ?” he whispered, brushing his lips against your chin as he observed your reaction.
you only hummed lazily. “uh-huh...” you breathed out, your senses becoming hazy as he filled your soft, tight cunnie. he chuckled quietly and pulled back, only leaving the tip inside before pushing all the way in. the friction made you mewl softly.
he let his forehead fall against your shoulder as he began slowly thrusting up your pussy, his movements lazy with sleep. “shit... always forget how tight you are, lil' one...” he murmured into your ear.
the way your sloppy walls were clamping down on his dick made him hiss. “gonna cum sooner than expected if you keep tha' up.”
“toji...” you sighed, wrapping your legs around his hips. he hummed in return, leaning down to press soft kisses on both of your eyelids. “yeah... ain't goin' nowhere, sweet thing.” he reassured you, slowly wrapping his hand around your ankle to keep your leg hooked around him.
you whimpered, trying to close your legs as the sensation became too much.
he was so fucking deep into it.
he placed his hand on your tummy, pressing down onto the bulge created by his huge cock. “nah,” he chuckled at your pitiful attempt. “keep 'em apart, baby.” he was fucking you so good. so good you were almost drooling.
all you could do was thank the stars above for your man and his cock.
“shit, m'close... don't last as long as i used to.” he huffed, tucking his head in your neck. “y'know how insane you drive me with this pussy ?” he whispered but you barely registered his words.
“toji... gonna come...” you murmured, feeling your walls squeeze his shaft tightly. he groaned. “yeah, can tell...” he intertwined his fingers with yours and pressed a kiss to your shoulder.
his free hand slowly slid down, aiming the spot where your bodies joined. he circled your throbbing little clit lazily to help you finish. “c'mon, flower... clench 'round my cock... make a mess. will clean it wit' my tongue.” your little hole pulsated around his length at the nickname.
you gripped the sheets tightly, hearing your own moans. “m'coming... m'coming, toji... gonna come...” you whispered. he hummed, still playing with your clit. “yeah. m'waiting.”
one— two— three shallow thrusts were enough for you to come. you arched your back as you squeezed his cock, your pretty eyes rolling at the back of your head. “mhm... there you go, sweetie... m'right behind you.”
he groaned. “gonna shoot it in your pussy, you okay wit' that ?” he mumbled. as soon as you nodded, he finally came, painting your walls white. “yeah... aw, fuck.” he sighed, rolling his hips lazily to ride his high.
as soon as you both regained your senses, he rolled off you, not wasting a second to wrap his strong arms around your soft, shaky frame. “thanks, dollie.” he kissed your forehead.
all he could do was thank the stars above for his girl and her pussy.
