I kid you not, my digital electronics professor just asked "what's one plus one? Don't say two," and I'm finding it very difficult to take this class seriously. (for context, we are learning radix complements and the number was binary)

The funny thing about the PJO cabin system is that everyone's always all 'oh the twelve' this and 'the twelve' that but that's absolutely not even remotely accurate. To start, right off the bat it's thirteen, not twelve, because they don't count Hades. But not really because before Percy, there were no big three kids, so we're down to ten active cabins already but it's actually eight because Artemis and Hera don't make demigods.
And of those eight, Mr. D is stuck at camp (thus not really making new demigods all that often) and his only two kids don't even sleep in a cabin, they sleep in the Big House with him.
So, pre-Percy, there are seven active cabins at Camp Half-Blood:
Glee club, the Jocks, the Nerds, the Geeks, the Farmers, the 'Sketchy Kids' and the Popular Kids.
Or, in other words, the Apollo, Ares, Athena, Hephaestus, Demeter, Hermes (and the unclaimed kids) and Aphrodite cabins.
What's cool is that you can already see the cabin dynamics in the show. For example, the Athena cabin allies with the Hermes cabin for the numbers. The Hermes kids plus all the unclaimed kids? It's the biggest cabin in the camp by far. It's a battle strategy. Luke and Annabeth's close relationship is just the cherry on top for Annabeth. It'll be really cool to see how the show develops the differences in the cabins during the series.
#pjo tv show#pjo series#if i remember correctly it's the Hermes cabin then Ares and Apollo in terms of numbers. Aphrodite would probably be next.#but the Athena Hephaestus and Demeter cabins were always under twelve kids.#they state exact numbers in one book... and if you don't want spoilers turn back now#but after the war theres only three Hephaestus kids left so like.... the numbers go real fucking low#the entire camp population plummeta#iactually really fucking depressing watching this camp filled with small tiny children knowing that only a very small fraction of themlive

The maths fandom is wild. “Real” and “imaginary” numbers? I think you mean canon and non-canon. You guys seriously go “this is my number oc his name is i and he is the square root of -1” when in numbers canon lore it’s actually impossible to square root a negative but sure whatever. “Complex numbers”? I think you mean a character x oc ship. “f(x) = 3x - 5”? That is self-insert fanfiction.
#(spoiler for the maths finale) 7 eats 9#mathblr#math memes#shitpost#locus other time#this is a joke don’t get too worried about it. I just wanted an excuse to say imaginary numbers are OCs#i would go more in depth but alas. as I’m making this I’m 16 so I haven’t learned all the fun maths lore yet#math#to reiterate: I am aware this is an oversimplification and not how maths works and nothing in maths is canon!#I am not trying to say square rooting negative numbers is stupid or impossible or saying imaginary numbers are a lie or anything like that#I just wanted to have a bit of fun with using fandom terms for numbers (and play off the stereotype of people who police “canon”)#no hate to mathematicians or the field of maths. You guys are cool. Sorry if it came off that way

A popular sex ed blog has decided trans men & mascs aren't allowed to use our own words to describe our own oppression, and seems to be deleting replies and asks that say otherwise, so I've decided to take my ramble over to main.
Regarding TMA/TME language, they've brought up a couple of times how "exempt" means "set apart" rather than "never experiences transmisogyny ever," and how words can have multiple definitions (this post). So it's best to hear people out before jumping to bad-faith interpretations of their words.
However, they also say, "misandry is a term for the 'oppression of men based on gender'" (this post) as a reason why "transmisandry" can never be used.
That is one definition of misandry, yes, but as they pointed out, words can have multiple definitions! Regarding the oppression against trans men & mascs, misandry is generally used to mean the literal "hatred of men," and people in these discussions don't believe that misandry is an axis of systemic oppression (which has been stated over and over).
Yes, it has negative connotations, which is why people more often use transandrophobia or anti-transmasculinity instead. (This poll shows more specifically which terms are most preferred.) But that doesn't mean people who use the term transmisandry are MRAs or believe in the MRA concept of misandry.
Transmisandry is not claiming a combination of systemic transphobia and "systemic misandry," but hatred against trans men & mascs for being trans men/masc. Again, many people prefer other terms that leave less room for that misinterpretation, but people who do use the term transmisandry aren't responsible for others repeatedly ignoring their actual explanations of the term.
In general, arguing over the words rather than the concepts is a very common way to silence people who are trying to talk about their oppression. Jews talking about antisemitism get dismissed because "You're not Semitic, you're from Poland." Aromantic and asexual people get dismissed because "Aphobia literally means 'fear of nothing,' that's a stupid term." And trans men & mascs get told "You can't use that word to talk about your oppression, it's problematic." (Time and time again, and every time we pick a new word, that one gets called problematic too; it's almost like the problem was never really the word?) The words get picked apart but people don't listen to what we're actually saying, the ways we're suffering.
In their own words, from this post: "Do you have to like the language? No. Do you have to respect the way and language oppressed people have chosen to speak about their oppression? Yes. Yes, you do."
Trans men & mascs shouldn't be an exception to your respect.
#anti-transmasculinity#transmisandry#the number of times i've heard 'oppressed people have the right to define their own oppression! except transmascs. fuck you guys'#it's insane#I don't even use the term transmisandry myself? but this shit is not okay to say so i'm going to bat for it

HC they first met a year or two after Yelan got her vision; post fighting the in abyss but when Kaeya was still navigating his identity from Kaeya, Brother and Right hand of Diluc Ragnvindr to Kaeya Alberich, Cavalry Captain and Quarter master of the Knights of Favonius.

Headcanon that instead of signing his threats Red Hood uses semicolons liberally (and correctly) because nobody up to their eyeballs in crime in his part of Gotham uses semicolons. ‘Don’t even try to run; I know all of your hideouts’ is a Certified Red Hood Threat. ‘I’m always watching; every minute every second’ is someone impersonating Red Hood.
#this results in a significant increase in the number of people who know how to use semicolons#because the criminals want to know if a message is from hood so they need to take it seriously#and the civilians need to know if an offer to help is genuine or a trick#the semicolon eventually becomes an unreliable way of telling real red hood messages from fake ones#because now everyone knows how to use a semicolon#meanwhile Jason rubs his hands together and gleefully mutters that it’s all going according to keikaku#and by keikaku he means his long term plan to increase literacy rates in crime alley#Red Hood#Jason Todd#DC#DCU#DC Red Hood#punctuation

How do charr hands function? Here's my headcanon (with drawings!)
So I made this poll earlier today and I ended up making some sketches to explain how I headcanon charr hands and their supposedly retractable yet too big claws. The idea is that both the game and the books are partially right: claws can be big (not as big as the models), and they're semi-retractable (so fully-fluffy paws). [Disclaimer: I am bad at anatomical drawings and did not try to make them super accurate :')]
Basically charr fingers are made of three phalanges, but functionally they're just two, with the 2nd and 3rd being much shorter and sort of "merging" with the claw itself, which is mostly supported by the 3rd and starts very close to the knuckle between them. The palm is covered almost entirely by a skin pad/paw pad, which usually extends to the first phalanx of each finger, and the fingertips are covered by pads as well.
The claws are semi-retractile, though the exact range of motion depends on the individual's genetics (claw size and shape + hand anatomy) and preferences (how much they trim the claw). The ability to retract their claws is managed by specialized extra tendons and muscles in the hand's structure, and they can lock the claw in place or move it, even while the fingers are bent, though with some limitation at the extremes of movement. While the claw at rest will stay at a "safe" angle, the claw's bed can shift on the cartilage structure when pulled, sliding back into a "sheathed" position or be pushed outwards. [note: I was too scared to go too far with the "x-ray" sketches and probably the claws could go a bit further back in the finger lol]
Ancestrally, this system kept the claws from always digging into the ground and losing sharpness when running on all fours, while still allowing for extra grip when necessary (similar to cheetahs) and the use when fighting or taking down prey. During the evolutionary transition in which charr started walking upright most of the time and using tools, it lost some of its ancestral necessity and functionality. However, instead of turning into something vestigial, charr evolved the ability of controlling each claw's movement independently from the rest of the finger, allowing for greater precision, fine motor skills and dexterity.
The pad grants grip and softer manipulation of items, while the claw handles movements finer and more precise than the pad allows, and other races find it complex, fascinating or a bit freaky. Some say that charr are as dexterous than humans, if not more, which is quite an accomplishment for creatures with such big hands.
That said, variety is huge among charr. Some have stubby paws with big, wide claws, while others have long, slender fingers with narrow claws.
Claws are still used as a natural weapon by many soldiers, but it's totally not uncommon for charr to file their claws down or keep them blunt, as there's a huge variety of reasons for not wanting sharp knives on one's fingers (job requirements, handling of delicate materials, safer interactions with cubs or creatures with softer skin, personal preference, etc), and some even keep their claws at different lengths for specific uses.
That said, claws can't be trimmed beyond the quick without bleeding or potential damage, and since it extends out of the sheath it's not possible for a charr to fully sheath their claws. Claws grow quite fast to make up for the daily wear and tear, so upkeep must be done regularly, as trimming too much might temporarily impact coordination. Declawing can happen during combat or following injury, and those affected might wear prosthetics/fake claws to make up for it.
#gw2 headcanons#gw2 charr#charr#my art#charr anatomy#gw2 lore rambling#btw hind paws and their claws are different and I have a whole other headcanon for the dewclaw with spur. and teeth number too#anyway everyone who draws charr hands does a great job at it so don't take this as gospel. I'm just trying to wrap my head around anatomy#but damn did I just really draw hands and fingers without despising them completely? O:#gotta keep telling myself that this isn't useless cuz I'm helping myself figure out stuff. the ocs drawings will be better now!#edit: since someone mentioned the term... I guess the claws are technically protractible as well? 🤔 oh well they still move lol

the rest of the cast got their new song covers, so i wanted to try putting the others in a band :>
i did want to make it look a bit like an album cover but i have no idea how those are designed so eh?? i also couldn't think of any band or album/song names so. if anyone has any ideas...
#art#obey me#obey me raphael#jtta ik#obey me mephistopheles#obey me thirteen#from left to right they are: lead singer/rhythm guitar - drummer - lead guitar - bass#tbh any of them could've taken any role but bassist girl thirteen spoke to me and raph canonically sings well so that felt like it fit#i did consider ik as lead but she'd absolutely shred on the drums. she has so much pent-up rage to let out...#in context this is for a music festival diavolo's putting on but it'd be a fun au as well#i like to think thirteen is the overwhelming favourite of all the fangirls#also in terms of band name...#i was thinking something based on the fact that there's one of each species (human/demon/angel/reaper) but what word can i use for that#jo has suggested something involving the numbers 3 and 4 for 3 realms and 4 members#3.4HZ Harmony was the best we could come up but it feels like there should be a sorta other-world element to it#then again if it's an au then i guess they'd all be humans anyway#ah whatever#life and work related obligations have been growing so naturally i've been starting a bunch of creative endeavours to try to get away from#is this a long term good thing for future career prospects? probably not. but i'd rather be happy#the unknowables

i’m actually grateful for apple tv+ who seems to be able to believe in their tv shows despite ‘low’ ratings.
based on wikipedia, they have 76 ongoing shows (drama + comedy):
- 27 of them were ended but 13 of them had at least 2 seasons which brings us to a 18% cancellation rate after their first season
- 18 of them (23%) were miniseries so their end is justified
- 21 of them are renewed but if if you add the 13 series that had at least 2 seasons, this brings us to a total of 35 shows that were renewed which is a 46% ratio renewal rate
apple tv+ renews half of their shows and i think we should be thankful for them in a time where netflix and amazon cancels 90% of their shows
#like any other streaming service would have cancellled foundation by now#but we’re getting a 3rd season#swagger ended after 2 seasons but we still get a second season! you bet your ass we would never had it on netflix#the quality of these shows are also a factor in this that's for sure#but still. i think whoever is running apple tv+ has the right idea in investing on the long term vs. short term#and we all should be starting to pay more attention to their shows!#apple tv+#apple tv#this whole text post started casually but then i had to back it up with real numbers lol#but yeah anyway. watch severance! watch mythic quest! watch foundation! watch silo!#damn i also just saw that they renewed platonic

YOURE SUPPOSED TO BE UNCOMFORTABLE. ITS SUPPOSED TO BE BAD.#like i dunno maybe i’m biased as Number One Violent Media Enjoyer#but i think people need to come to terms with the fact that to say violence is bad in media sometimes you need to directly show violence#not to mention when you deal with issues like that you’re going to want to see them represented whether it’s metaphorical or not#yapsesh over sorry y’all I need to froth at the mouth.#mickey 17

I think Five choosing not to have a ‘real’ name is such an underrated and fascinating aspect of his character. Because let’s look at the possible reasons behind it.
(technically applicable only to the comics, I think the show canon is that Five left before he could be given a name, even though that doesn’t make any sense but whatever-)
Potential reasons for Five not wanting a regular name:
1. Five is stubborn (obviously) and refused a name to spite Reggie. The numbers were a method of dehumanizing the kids—they weren’t ‘just children’ they were tools, soldiers. Five took away this power from Reginald by deciding no, Five is my name. It’s just as real a name as anything else and it doesn’t make me less of a person.
2. Solidarity with his siblings. Five’s character (pre character assassination) was centered around his family. He valued his siblings above everything else. He wanted to keep the name ‘Five’ because it reminded him of the family he was a part of. In a way, he never wanted to forget who he really was.
3. He saw himself as something less than human. Five is arguably the best of his siblings at being used as a weapon/soldier. He didn’t form much of an identity out of the the academy and the things he was trained for (even after he ran away, he was used the same way by the commission). He’s expressed regret and self-hatred for the things he does, but it’s clear he feels that this is his identity. Even after being given a shot at a normal life he chose to join the CIA. Five never really thought of himself as human. He was only ever a tool.
#anyway pls share your thoughts#I think this was the first of many mistakes made by Netflix in terms of interpreting Five’s character#I didn’t read the comics so if his reasoning is stated pls ignore my ramblings lmao#the umbrella academy#tua#five hargreeves#umbrella academy#number five
