i just think the primary basis of any napollya fic, no matter how you approach it, has to be that Napoleon is down so so bad. 'going to hell for someone' is small potatoes compared to just how fucking deep below the ground he already is every minute of the day. Eight Principles of Shinobi Knowledge in Naruto and parallel Confucian ethical values:

Virtue (ren - co-humanity/altruism)

Justice (yi - disposition to good and sense/competency to do so)

Ceremony (li - rites/customs)

Wisdom (zhi - the ability to see what is right and wrong)

Loyalty (zhong - reciprocal faithfulness with a ruler)

Faithfulness (xin - trustworthiness/integrity)

Prudence (jié - continence/self-control)

Filial Piety (xiào - respect for one's parents, ancestors, and societal hierarchy)

Ebisu lists these eight principles off to Naruto and Konohamaru in Chapter 2, and they seem to be in direct parallel with the Five Constants and Four Virtues. My knowledge of Confucian ethics is passing at best, so my interpretation of it may be different than another person's reading. But I find it very interesting which of these are followed by the characters, and which aren't.

Kakashi explains why he stays helping Tazuna in Chapter 21 with the words, "To know what is right and choose to ignore it is the act of a coward. Like Master, Like Man [...] True shinobi do not merely dance to the tune of whoever pays the Piper." In that quote alone, Kakashi seems to be upholding wisdom (knowing that's right), justice (doing the good) and virtue (doing something for others' sake rather than for self-gain).

However, on the other hand we see Kakashi disregard filial piety (shame towards his father as a child, refusing to abide by hierarchy with friends and colleagues, both when he is a shinobi under the Hokage and when he is the Hokage himself), loyalty with a ruler (in placing Naruto's plea for Sasuke's life above the village/the Hokage), and prudence (in not moderating his chakra usage in battle, in risky experiments like having Naruto aim a rasenshuriken at him). So, while he is sometimes described as a model shinobi, what's most interesting to me are which principles Kakashi chooses not to follow.

volo/akari - enemies to lovers but this time it breached containment and actually reached fame because the amount of fanarts/fanfics ive seen of this otp is fascinating. in a span of a year pixiv managed to have 100+ arts of them. maybe even more. i mean what do you expect? yandere? angst? drama? pining??? hosoyan and hondo kaede??? in MY pokemon game?

You want critique so uh… I’ll try my hand. None of what I’m saying is bad though, and I only see it this way because that’s what I often do 😅

Sometimes you bring up little points that don’t really have complete relevancy to the plot, and so it might come across as you just trying to find something to make a sentence longer. Take the Drabble you wrote about the hero being in a hospital and the villain being by their bed as an example. In the second paragraph the villain thought about how they hadn’t eaten in a while due to worry. This is a point that honestly fleshes the story out a lot, it’s just that the moment you chose to write it made it seem a bit stilted and odd. There wasn’t a moment of “oh I’ve been worrying so much” but instead “oh thank god you’re okay”, so the point about noting having eaten would have fit much better a little bit after the hero wakes up

I do think mentioning that the villain hadn’t eaten in a while is relevant to the story.

I mentioned it pretty early on in the snippet (the hero is awake the entire time, by the way) because a) it is another way of telling the reader for how long they’ve been in the hospital/that the villain cares about the hero (exposition) and b) so the villain themselves realizes they haven’t been taking care of themselves.

I guess I was trying to hint that the villain doesn’t really care about what happens to themselves when the hero is in a worse condition.

And since that wasn’t the point of the snippet, I only mentioned it very very briefly.

But if you can think of other points that aren't relevant to the plot or other criticism, please tell me!
