speaking my truth that the city of bones movie deserved better ✊ i remember watching it as a kid back in 2014 and people can say what they want but they NAILED the ya urban fantasy vibes in that film, plus some of the clary and jace moments were just so sweet………no matter what there will always always be something so nostalgic and dreamy about it to me

speaking of TOH... which character did the show do dirty? (dont say hooty thats too easy)

I ACTUALLY DO HAVE AN ANSWER FOR THIS BECAUSE I THINK ABOUT IT ALL THE TIME.

gus and willow are some of the FIRST supporting characters we're introduced to in the series. they're best friends with each other and have been for at least a school year, and they're the first witches luz befriends besides eda. they have families that are never really explored and plot lines that are only barely explored. willow gets more love than gus but most of what i see is ship content with her and hunter (not a bad thing, huntlow rocks!)

it's just that these characters largely (not entirely, but largely) got delegated to a supporting role in both story and personality. a lot of times they only show up in the show to cheer on luz or support hunter's growth as a person. they are more like accessories than people sometimes!! (only sometimes—the story we DO get of them is great, i just wanted to see more :))

i have a lot of thoughts about it but i'll cut myself off there. if i had to pick only one character done dirty by the show it would be gus, but willow is a close second imo, if only because we very rarely got to focus on them as their own characters with their own motivations!!!

Being subtle

The mornings are, by far, the most overwhelming part of the day. Multiple pairs of tiny feet are running around and all points of the day, but in the morning Percy’s mind is still trying to fight off the cloud of unconsciousness and all of his kids–whom he loves dearly–make it very difficult to not want to curl into some cave like a bear in winter. 

So far, two of their three rascals are awake this morning; Vesper seems to be regaining those couple hours lost by a bad dream, and both parents are not complaining. Vex has Wolfe in her arms and Percy has Leona, the twins hell bent on rising with the sun. A tiny hand reaches up and grabs at the back of Percy’s hair, and his head leans back with the firm pull.

“Ah, ow, darling. Let’s not–” he reaches back and–with more strength than he thought he’d need–pried her little fingers open. “--do that. I’d like to keep my hair as long as physically possible.”

“I don’t think you have to worry about baldness, my love.” Vex has Wolfe on a hip, arm curled around him, and a mug of coffee in the other hand. “If you haven’t lost it from stress by now, age has no chance.” 

Percy breaths a laugh and gives an accepting nod. “One can only hope you’re right.”

“I’m always right, dear.”

“Mm.” 

As Vex went to sip at her coffee, the toddler in her arm leaned back in an incredible show of flexibility. His little back arched as he threw his hands over his head, and Vex lurched forward.

“No, no, no, no!” The coffee mug just settled on the edge of the counter as she threw it down to grab at Wolfe with her now free hand, saving him from cracking his head on that same counter. 

“Wolfe, what was that?” she laughed.

Percy’s eyes never left his son and wife, but as Vex made sure their toddler didn’t hit the ground he leaned forward just enough to hook the mug’s handle with two fingers and slide it back so it wasn’t so close to the edge. Even exhausted, even distracted, Percy always looks out for Vex and her happiness.

Leona giggles at her brother’s antics, and Percy can feel her start to copy him.

“Ah, no, let’s not hurt ourselves, alright?” He places a sturdy hand on her back. “I don’t need anyone or anything hitting the ground this morning.”

“I couldn’t agree more.” Vex reaches for her coffee and takes a long sip, seemingly unaware of how close she was to losing it. “Come on, dear.” She looks at Percy. “Let’s get some breakfast going.”

a plea for prompts!

Hello, friends! It seems my brain has fallen into a bit of a writer’s rut for the past, uh, far too long if I’m being honest. 

I would love it if you took a second, if you felt so inclined, to send me a prompt! I found a tried-and-true quote prompt list HERE, if you want a list to pick from! But I’m also open to literally anything - a character or pairing, an AU theme, a setting, a quote, a lyric, a scenario - anything! Show, book, hell, even fandoms other than Shadowhunters! (I’m pretty comfy writing Critical Role (mighty nein), Teen Wolf, New Girl, 9-1-1, Stranger Things, I just watched through Angel... if you know I’m familiar with it, ask and I’ll see what I can do!) 

I’m aiming to keep these on the short-and-sweet side just to get some of those creative ideas flowing, but i’m also aware of how often my ‘short’ ideas run away from me. But the goal is just little snippets/ficlets.

Finishing Too Much Information

Around 2017/18 time, my best friend Niamh and I did a podcast on my YouTube channel critiquing The Mortal Instruments book series. This series was called "Too Much Information".

Unfortunately, after our video on City of Fallen Angels a series of events prevented us from finishing, and videos for City of Lost Souls and City of Heavenly Fire were never filmed. Thus Too Much Information remained incomplete.

Until, hopefully, now.

Niamh and I want to try to finish Too Much Information. We're not promising anything, but we want to try. A large part of the series was taking the thoughts and opinions of my followers at the time, which I wrote down and we'd discuss on camera. So, if by some miracle anyone who used to watch the podcast and sent me things to talk about are still following me here, I'd love to hear your thoughts on CoLS and CoHF.

What was the best compliment you ever got

This most likely will be a cop-out, but anything my wife really says, especially when it comes to my singing.

I tend to be very hard on myself when it comes to my singing voice. She is that reminder to my negative feedback I give myself with the compliments she gives.
