“Benched” (At Your Service AU version)

another infodump so i’m not gonna go into too much detail into some of these

In the au, both Macaque and MK follow the gang to the Lantern City. Similar to the canon episode, they find out about the talent show and the third ring. And just like in canon, Macaque will do whatever it takes to get the third ring, to get as far from the Lady Bone Demon as possible. He doesn’t let MK know that, of course.

The gang still performs in the talent show, and Tang still goes after the third ring. It wasn’t after he made in the lantern when the shadows started to change as a familiar monkey shows up.

Macaque goes and taunts him, and Tang smacks his hand away and runs and reaches for the ring. And then, at the last second, a familiar figure wearing a headband appears. Tang immediately realizes who it is before getting kicked in the stomach.

Tang hits the walls of the lantern hard and collapses. MK perfectly lands on his feet as Macaque praises him. MK looks down and notices the ongoing performance, and sees his friends. He felt his face showing a small smile, it was nice to see that they were having fun-

His eyes flashed blue as he shook his head, he had a mission to do. Macaque notices the kid watching the performance, and gets an idea.

“You know kid, your friends seem to be having a lot of fun. I’m sure it’d be nice if you joined them, don’t you think?” At that, MK gets the message and smirks. They needed the rest of the rings after all. MK shares one last glance at Tang before leaping down.

The whole scene with Tang and Macaque continues on without MK. Macaque sends MK towards his friends so he doesn’t hear about his plans to use the Samadhi Fire for himself, to get away from his Lady.

Mid- performance, Wukong’s ears perks up as he senses something, or someone? He briefly looks up, only managing to see someone dropping down towards them. Wukong barely has enough time to warn the others before the mysterious figure finally landed, creating a powerful blow that sends half the crowd flying.

When the gang picks themselves up and the dust finally clears, their hearts drop as they recognize the mysterious figure instantly. MK simply wipes the dust off himself as he turns toward the group, with a sickly smile on his face.

“Hey guys! You guys looked like you were having a lot of fun down here! Unfortunately though, I gotta cut your little show here short. My lady needs something.” They were about to speak up, before MK interrupted them, “And don’t worry, my Lady changed her mind. We’re not gonna capture Wukong. However…”

“…I’m gonna need you to hand over the rest of the rings.”

At that, the gang froze. They stood there, unsure of what to do. How did the Lady Bone Demon find out about the Samadhi Fire? Did MK told her willingly, or did she managed to find out herself?

There were only sounds of the crowd’s panicking as they exited the theatre, as the gang continue to stand frozen. That was, until Mei finally found herself taking out her sword and getting into a stance, her sword trembling slightly. “We won’t let you take them.”

MK simply chuckles, taking a step further. “Always so stubborn with you, huh Mei? Oh well..” His hair begins to turn white as ice begins to form around his knuckles. “Hard way it is.”

The gang begins to duke it out, while with Tang and Macaque are having their brawl in the lantern. One fight scene later, and the gang manages to escape from MK. And Tang miraculously manages to escape from Macaque and meets up with the gang (cough cough Pigsy catching him cough cough)

since MK interrupted the gang’s performance, Pigsy never got to do his big finish (sorry pigsy😭) and the lantern never lit up. Tang still manages to access his powers and get the ring tho dw

Back with Macaque, he manages to pick himself up when he turns around and sees the kid standing behind him, causing him to jump. “What the heck, kid? You tryna give me a heart attack or somethi-“, he pauses himself when he noticed the kid just kept staring at him blankly, his eyes glowing blue.

Suddenly, all the lights in the city burned out, including the lantern itself. The lantern began to fill itself with a blue hue, whispers began dancing around him. It wasn’t until a voice began to speak when Macaque realized, she’s here.

A blue mist began to surround him as the voice continued. “You were to retrieve the rings of the Samadhi Fire, and yet you failed?”

MK knelt down. “My apologies, my lady. I tried to stop them but-“ “Do not worry, my child. You have done your best. I expect you to not disappoint me next time.” LBD responds to him in a calm and sweet tone, to which MK sighs in relief and stands back up, his eyes continuing to glow.

“As for you, Six-eared Macaque,” LBD’s voice returns to that of uncouth and scornful as she addresses the monkey. “I expected better from you. It would seem that you are rejecting the path to destiny, and so there will be… pain.”

Blue chains immediately rose from the ground as they begin to wrap around Macaque, holding him up. MK simply watches all of this go down, that blank look still plastered onto his face.

“NO! I’ll bring you your Samadhi Fire! I won’t fail you again, I swear!” the monkey begs, struggling to release himself from the chains.

“Really? Very well then. It would seem that there is still time to correct your failure.”

A blue mist begins heading straight for the Macaque, striking him right in the chest. He doubles over in pain, as the chains release him. His eyes begin to glow blue, his arm begins to cover in ice.

“Bring the fire to me. I will grant you my aid, my power in this final trial.”

Macaque lets out a painful scream as the power of the Lady Bone Demon rushes through him, half destroying the Lantern City in the process.

“But make haste, or I will leave nothing left of you.”

#codacheetah #isat #loop isat #mirabelle isat #isat spoilers #vaguely. mostly for the tags #i think it'd be sooo funny if like. loop and mirabelle postcanon.#loop has rejoined the party somewhat recently and they are not at all adapting. to be honest. reunion probably happened too soon #bc they are a siffrin which means they are disgustingly sentimental. their ass is not taking the time to discover themself as a new person.#do you really think loop is gonna take their own advice.lol.#lmao even #Ok so anyways i think the party and loop would have a weird thing going on #like theyre all extremely grateful to loop. and they trust loop through the general basis of theyre apparently very dear to siffrin #but fucking nobody knows what to make of this bitch. odile knows they are hiding Something but she has no certain evidence to pin it down.#isabeau can't catch loop alone for more than 5 seconds. has the distinct sense they're avoiding him and he does not know why #bonnie....well tbh i think they'd vibe with loop. bonnie win.#mirabelle. i think she wouldn't really like loop? not at first anyways #do you remember in sasasap mirabelle telling siffrin(loop) that for a long time she thought they were a callous sort of person #bc they never took anything seriously at all. like the whole journey didnt mean anything. until they took an eye for bonnie #i think mirabelle would catch a similar vibe towards loop(lol.) bc like #like loop's main presence in the group is negging siffrin and being weird and dodgy around everyone else #i don't even think they'd be mean to the others but they would do everything in their power to throw the party zero bones #so all mirabelle has to go on for loop is that they're kind of a dickhead to her friend and that they're not receptive to normal group #social activities. i think being on the receiving end of mirabelle's kindness would make loop kind of sad and she'd pick up on it #but like. loop is inexplicably important to siffrin. she doesn't know the details bc neither of them want to talk at all about the loops #and i think siffrin would be especially dodgy abt talking about loop in the interrim between them rejoining and them being Presumed Dead #so mirabelle tries a new strategy to bridge the gap between her and loop. the power of Mutual Haterism #more specifically i think mirabelle would get the impression of loop as being much more of a bitch than they actually are #due to the aforementioned siffrin negging #so like. maybe that's just how they socialize maybe they'd be down to talk about hot takes and gossip a bit

Atla live action 😐

#thats my honest reaction 😐#to be fair ive only seen 20 minutes of the s1 finale bc my parents are watching it but. mmmmm kinda mid #like. the casting is definitely an improvement since the last time they tried a live action but it feels like the writing falls flat #or maybe im being harsh bc ive only heard negative criticism on it beforehand. but fr anytime u bring up the original its already #good and not just because its the original. so much fucking detail went into it to the point of someone noticing azula wielding mai's knive #to how well thought out irohs character is used as a way of uniting the cast especially as zukos foil #i heard that sokkas sexism was toned down and i have to agree that feels like a cheap move. like i get WHY they think it would be better #but its not about how that reflects on real world its about how it affects the story. sokka starts out as a misogynistic asshole because #it makes it that much more impactful when he changes. toning that down makes it flatter and makes his character development weak #and someone pointed out they didnt even make him wear the kyoshi warrior uniform and i know it feels like such a small detail but #come on man. they did that in the original because not only does it help him really walk in their shoes - wearing 'feminine' clothing and #makeup and having suki explain its significance but it also ties in with the shows theme of harmony and intersectionality #i was also disappointed when they had the fire sages explain how the water tribe draws power from the moon because in the original it was #IROH who explained it to aang and everyone else BECAUSE we as the audience is under the impression hes with the 'bad guys'#and it builds up to how he learned from the other nations which reconciles his past as a war general and his character overall #AND its an excellent starting point for the cast and audience to understand how the nations arent as closed off as you would think #plus you would think its only fire nation doing propaganda but they expanded on that with earth kingdom censorship and it WORKS #a lot of things in the live action also feel arbitrary like. they gave momo a near death experience for 5 minutes for no reason #im firmly on the stance of bringing back filler moments instead of putting major events right after each other so that u give your #audience a sense of time passing and to really absorb the story. but i think thats more like shock value than filler and yeah its a small #thing to gripe about but those things build up and its really annoying. the thing abt avatar filler moments is that however small #its at least meaningful. hell even the beach episode emphasizes how isolated zuko and his friends are as child soldiers #i also swore to never watch the first live action since it was that bad but i really liked the stylized tattoos they used for aang #anyway. those arejust my thoughts. im not gonna watch the rest because im a ride or die for the original aftr growing up and #rewatching it at least 20 times as a kid. but theres definitely room for improvement and i wish ppl wouldnt take it as 'better' just cuz #netflix is adapting it. i wouldve killed for them to just reanimate the entire avatar series and touch NOTHING ELSE no redub #no changes to the story. just reanimate the thing and leave the rest alone and youd make easy money just the same #ALSO its very jarring not hearing jack desena and dante basco voicing sokka and zuko cause their voices were the most recognizable to me #i get that its because its live action but im allowed to feel a little sad abt that. and uncle irohs accent was really soothing #yapping

hiii i got a little insane over haskills characterization in the other elder scrolls games / material. teehee rambling abt these ^ quotes under the cut (long). also im not that serious abt any of this tbh im just glad haskill appeared in any other elder scrolls material at all LOL

OKAY. okay. about these quotes. idk why other TES media does this, but in these quotes from elder scrolls legends + the interview with haskill it seems like the writers are pushing to give the impression that haskill slightly resents or is even indifferent to his position / the isles / sheogorath ?? (unless haskill is being a little bit more flippant or hyperbolic than usual...?) which is characterization that is NOT what i got from playing oblivion at all skdskdjfn

like... when i played oblivion i thought it was very clear that haskill prefers to be in the isles, serving sheogorath, more than anywhere else. (<- i think this is actually the reason he's technically "mad" even tho he seems sane outwardly. if you enjoy being among madmen it probably means you're mad yourself ykwim). i think haskill does like the isles, his ass is just reserved abt it, like he is about everything... yknow just like jeeves, whose character he's been compared to lmao:)

i think unfortunately some writers take his annoyance with the player and his slight second thoughts about sheogorath's plan in oblivion, and mistakenly assume that he's just annoyed at his whole position. haskill does have his moments of exasperation, but the thing is it's usually only exasperation and it never verges into anger or bitterness or resentment like the top quotes seem to indicate. for example, haskill says this abt his idea of you mantling sheo / the clowns debacle:

^ This quote is a good reference point for haskill's view on sheo bc its pretty much the most critical-of-sheogorath quote from oblivion i can recall, and it tells us a lot of things. in this quote he expresses some exasperation about the clown idea (because he's a prissy bitch who doesn't want to get his outfit dirty /affectionate) and shows some apprehension about one of his lord's ideas (because it involves you, and haskill doesnt like you). but these 2 points he has beef with aren't really reflective of sheo himself but of other issues - ie he doesn't directly question sheogorath. and IN THE END Haskill defers to sheo's judgement because haskill trusts him and values sheo's ideas. in all of his oblivion dialogue, this is the most critical toward sheogorath he gets, and he never outright insults or shows resentment toward him or the isles like in the above quotes bc his loyalty to sheogorath eclipses it

on the contrary (and i dont know why the writers for non-oblivion elder scrolls content dont seem to see this??), theres so much evidence that haskill actually does, you know,,, enjoy being in the isles. here are just some snippets i can think of:

"the isles are hardly a place for anyone, really" <- i BEG to differ, Haskill likes it here, he likes listening to prisoners being tortured in xedillian, he likes wearing his ridiculous frilly high collar outfit emblematic of the fashions of the isles, he doesn't care about morality and it suits him just fine that it doesn't matter here!! (the end quote might be him being a little facetious about relmyna but to be honest i wouldn't be surprised if he thought decency and morality WERE provincial notions because he certainly has no problem killing people lmao). and again, to enjoy doing these things / being around madmen probably says something abt haskill being mad himself. lol

not to mention he likes a bit of joking around. which i imagine sheo does a whole lot. when YOU rib him a little he says this:

his derision in the first bit i think indicates, "i cant believe you would joke around at a time like this," and the upturning of the "very good" i think indicates, "it was a good joke / maybe they could mantle sheo after all". he's not all dour - he appreciates a good joke, especially from (someone who's about to become) his Lord!!

and going a little deeper into haskill actually liking the isles... haskill clearly holds what sheogorath and the isles represent (chaos, free will, individuality) very highly. a good example of this is when you ask him about dyus, and he gives this snarky reply:

^ he says this with such VITRIOL its so funny :p and the amount of disdain in this line indicates (to me) a real conviction in his belief in the free will, chaos etc that sheogorath represents.

this is why i dont think this quote makes sense. "i cant remember why i put up with [sheogorath]" <- haskill wouldnt say this bc he understands fully why he puts up w sheogorath, and his own convictions in sheo that lead him to keep doing it, and even if this quote is him being hyperbolic, i dont think he'd joke about his faith in sheogorath like that because, yk, one of his characteristics is that he's extremely loyal, and moreover he never said anything to this effect in oblivion sdkjskdjs

him having a strong belief in what sheogorath / the isles represent is also evidenced by the language haskill uses when talking about sheo. whenever haskill mentions him, there is an element of poetry and respect to his words that shows that haskill thinks about him highly at the very least:

^ haskill constantly stresses sheogorath's intrinsic unknowableness and power and unique wisdom in a way that feels very respectful. saying "to attempt to fathom [sheogorath's will] is a foolish endeavor" shows that he knows there are unexplainable aspects to sheogorath that he takes note of, respects, and knowingly keeps his distance from... he gets sheogorath and reveres him (at least more than most others or the HoK). in these quotes especially, it feels a bit like hes trying to illustrate how impressive sheogorath is to the HoK, hyping up his boyfriend if you would. who said that. and combined with this respect is (i believe!!!!) a deep care. he is invested in the isles and sheo and wants to help them out of more than just duty. he gets fearful and even loses his composure at some points in the story when sheo/the isles are threatened which i think indicates that he deeply cares for them both!!:

i think this is a care that, combined with the respect he has for sheo, makes it really unlikely for him to get more than exasperated with his behavior and verge into resentfulness. i dont think anyone truly understands sheogorath, not even haskill, but haskill respects sheo as a god, and also gets him in a more familiar/personal way i think - like the way that a cat owner loves their cat but gets exasperated with it when it gets its head stuck in a tissue box. he doesn't angry or anything because he understands that it's the cat's nature to get stuck in the tissue box / sheo's nature to be wild and unpredictable and messy. (the difference being that sheogorath is an all-powerful god cat..... do u see my vision???)

anyway this got crazy long JHDSHFSD... to finish i wanted to look at this extra bit of characterization i found that was wild to me:

^ like. i truly dont get where they got THIS characterization LMAO sheo constantly calls haskill faithful and smart and knowledgeable in oblivion, he practically begs you to summon haskill for help, hyping up his boyfriend so to speak, they care for each other your honor so of COURSE sheo trusts haskill to do his job. what are the legends writers doing in there!!

ANYWAY dear god this got long im going to bed <3

#rambles into the void #haskill #tes #this is all lighthearted by the way just my interpretation of the dialogue #if anyone else has thoughts abt this then be my guest to disagree <3 love to talk abt him #and honestly im just glad he appeared in legends at all..... like that card art??? im still bonkers about his card art #does this all make any sense!! lmao #i just think its more interesting if haskill is a snarky person but only to people he doesn't like. which is the case (i think) in oblivion #i think these lines are a l m o s t there but misdirect his snarkiness... that mans loyal as hell i dont think hed talk like that...#i mean why would he stick around sheo if he didnt at least respect him and enjoy the silly things he does. this man voluntarily puts #on a bright red foot-tall collar every day do you think he wouldnt appreciate a little silliness!! SKDJSD #and it fits with why he'd be in the isles even if he doesnt look mad #the first thing i thought when i realized he was outwardly 'sane' was 'oh but he likes being around 'mad' people therefore insane'... ykwim #i cant believe how well developed he is actually. haskill my beloved. i love your 400+ lines of dialogue haskill

well that was a shortlived good feeling about my job

#maybe i should just become unemployed. maybe i should just suffer!#recap of todays further events .#that supervisor? who i kinda didnt already like but now absolutely hate?#she came down to confirm that i wasnt leaving. okay . and then she fucking tells me #oh we're going to get another person to help out from this other company. we were going to do that bc we thought you were leaving #but she thinks that even if im staying there should be another person on this floor. bc apparently more has to be done #and there are 'constant complaints' abt this floor . which doesnt make sense to me bc there shouldnt be #and so we're waiting to see what the manager decides but hes on fucking vacation and wont get back until. next week??#she said she was gonna email him and like right after she left i emailed and texted him explaining everything #and trying to very nicely say hey what the fuck are you doing you don't need to hire anyone else #and if im doing a bad job fucking tell me so i can do it better. bitch #and she had the nerve to fucking tell me when she was talking to me #that i wont find an easier job than this one #well if its so fucking easy why are we hiring someone else #by the way getting that extra person from this other company doesnt cost them anything which is why theyre doing it i think #which is making me not feel good abt my own future lmao. like why would they keep paying me when they can get someone for free #and she was saying all this stuff like oh you have it so good here we dont write you up i do all this stuff to help you like . ok #i didnt ask you to come downstairs w the coffee order and if you wanted me to i would come up . god #but the thing of me not being able to find a better job like wow! what if i killed you. for saying that to my face #and she talks abt how shes been w the company 20 years ok and that doesnt give you an excuse to treat me like a child. jesus #anyway im very pissed off and not enjoying my work situation lol. i dont wanna do this anymore #but looking at other jobs im so unemployable. sigh

#mfw a movie has irish slang in it and i am familiar with it instead of usamerican stuff #i have Some Thoughts on the setting of inisherin + the time period given the givens abt the aran islands #but nothing concrete. might meditate on it #like ok im no scholar on the aran islands ive been there a couple times ive read a couple articles thats it #but like. the tourism leaning into their image of Old Irish Villagín With Sheeps And Stone Walls basically overruns its reputation #and the islands have leaned hard into the tourism and portraying themselves as True Irish Old Villages or whatever #and thus settles the situation where like. everything about the islands pander to the tourists #the islands themselves are not doing well as places to live iirc #aging population people moving away lack of amenities and funding and resources that arent Tourism #its a gaeltacht but the tourism business mandates knowing english etc etc etc lotsa shit #like i had a school friend from an island and she was always unreachable on breaks bcos the island didnt have wifi #SO! the islands around ireland suffer from lack of facilities while bending to tourism bcos they gotta #BACK 2 BANSHEES to be clear inisherin isnt an actual island but it was filmed on inish mór and very clearly based on the arans #i like the island setting bcos of the sense of isolation it gives i think it was a good choice for the movie #HOWEVER its like. you know the thing where all irish media needs to be set in the old times #when we were all wearing aran wool jumpers and playing our little instruments and being cute historical dotes #yeah. that. compounded with the aran islands wicked having to play into that in the present day #like banshees itself isnt that bad an offender. the island setting just makes it more obvious and you could tick lines off on a bingo sheet #(shoutout to the obligatory civil war reference)#where was i going with this. im tired of weird 'back when ireland was ireland' shit being Thee thing to make art abt #this is why young offenders is the best piece of irish cinema this decade. i need to rewatch the young offenders

That concept is so cool!! Can you tell me more about the dynamics? (Like what are the specific differences that made you classify Sabito as alpha prime instead of just alpha?)

When you say the Primes effect more and are effected more than the others what exactly do you mean?

Do you become a Prime when you take on a certain roll in your pack or is it just a option during the initial presenting event?

Are Primes like a subsection of their dynamic or are they a whole new one? (3 broad dynamics society vs 5 specific dynamics society)

ok important distinction to get out of the way first- i see a/b/o as terms to describe phenomena, not strict definitions people fall into. i dont like omegaverse things like that bc 1 i love biology & speculative evolution and through that lens it makes absolutely 0 fucking sense to me and 2 i dont like omegaverse basically being reduced to sexism 2.0 with submissive feminine omegas, dominant masculine alphas, and boring betas.

i completely understand and see the appeal in traditional a/b/o but i also think its severely limiting

to answer your questions off the bat:

sabito as an alpha prime mostly just bc i really really like giving him big/visible fangs and that influenced some worldbuilding choices lmao

imagine having ur senses turned up 200%. theyre just as affected by a drop of pheromones as normal dynamics are a litre. theyre way more sensitive to others' and their own is far more potent

theres no 'presenting event' either you stay not very reactive to pheromones(beta) you start reacting to pheromones normally(alpha/omega) or you start to be fuck-off sensitive to pheromones(a/o prime) (ppl dont choose or get assigned a secondary dynamic its just something that Happens and a/b/o are terms used to describe wide trends)

its still 3 broad dynamics, primes are considered a sub-category/more specific variant of alpha/omega

mmm, id say overall theyre pretty much the same? rengokus & mitsuri are closer-knit, tengen and them kinda make a trio, sabito's almost part of the mini-group(The Loud Ones)- sanemi and obanai still dislike giyuu, now its got an added 'omega has his alpha wrapped around his finger and makes him do the dirty work instead' bc he never bothers to defend himself from them so sabito steps up and tells them to fuck off- then theres the obvious kamado situation. sabito's neutral abt them after he gets over his initial anger but cmon. its tanjiro. youre not staying neutral for long. giyuu more protective of them from the get-go

secondary dynamics arent dependent on sex, theyre two separate spectrums and secondary dynamics are Secondary

secondary dynamics start to develop with puberty, not really finished until somewhere in 20s

you cant tell what someone's secondary dynamic will be until it starts to present

betas are the hardest to tell bc sometimes ppl are just late bloomers, late20s-30s and they still dont react to scents very strongly or havent had a heat/rut theyre probably a beta

betas still smell scents but arent sensitive to pheromones and their own arent very strong either, some can have mini-heats or ruts. overall if theyre not very reactive to scents and they dont have noticeable fangs or any changes to their reproductive organs theyre considered a beta

alphas and omegas have stronger scents (a beta would need to be actively projecting their scent to be on the same level as alpha/omega's baseline) and are sensitive to pheromones.

secondary dynamics influence sex but are not influenced by sex; males who are omegas can develop female reproductive systems and females who are alphas can develop male reproductive systems. this results in tons of possible combinations, though not everything /works/ since they'd need the matching internal & external parts to actually reproduce.

with male omegas/female alphas; commonly, either the secondary reproductive system doesnt develop at all or the secondary external develops alongside the original*. less commonly the secondary external develops and the original internals swap to the secondary. very rarely the secondary will fuck up the original internals and make someone sterile. very VERY rarely will someone develop both original and secondary reproductive systems that are fully functional

main biggest difference between alphas and omegas is mostly in whether they have a heat(& nest) or a rut(& claim territory)

heats typically start off with some warning signs before the actual heat kicks in(preheat) omegas will start to be clingy and seek safety/closeness with their pack for a few days, along with starting to give off a heat scent. omegas usually dont smell their own heat scent until its already pretty strong(closer to heat) so others around them usually notice the scent first. heat hits with a full body fever for a day or two, its extremely uncomfortable and usually omegas drop out of coherency. behind the scenes all kinds of reward chemicals and other important stuff in the brain are thrown way out of wack- no one really notices that tho bc theyre usually blearily rolling around suffering through a mind-numbing fever. after it abates theyre left with the still fucky brain balance and dont really get back all the coherency they lost from the fever, still a little out of it for the whole duration of heat. theyre more sensitive to changes in their emotions and more sensitive to physical contact, heats in their usual state are non-sexual and an omega simply seeks security affection and comfort from their pack. excessively negative emotions caused by lack of security or comfort can cause an omega to be extremely panicky/depressive/aggressive (borderline feral) and its not fun for anyone involved. the omega going through it is overrun with negative thoughts/feelings/emotions and the scent of an omega going through a disruptive heat is especially nauseating & discomforting to anyone around (an intense need to Fix It and make the omega feel better). on the flip-side, omegas being more sensitive to emotion and physical contact can lead to a state of near constant euphoria/ecstasy in sexual heats between mates (the more traditional version of heat)

omegas will go into heat in the presence of another omega's heat if they are emotionally connected (family, pack, friends, etc) and an omega's heat can cause an alpha to start their rut (& vice-versa ruts causing heats)

ruts cause a similar fucky brain balance but not nearly to the same degree as heats, alphas will seek out affection and their instinct to protect is sent into absolute overdrive. mother hen x500. it causes them to be a lot more agitated which leads to more aggression bc more things are seen as a threat.

sexual ruts with mates sends their instinct to make sure the other IS and feels safe/good into overdrive and They Will Not Leave Their Mate

nesting is the usual find soft things make comfy/safe bed/area for pack and is extremely personal/fiercely defended from those who its not meant for; claiming territory is a wider application of 'make area feel comfy/safe for pack' alphas will patrol or steak out vantage points of their selected territory, like omegas they also dont take kindly to intruders**

alphas are built a bit more for power and tend to be offensive/face confrontation head-on(make opponent lose ground, get threats as far away from my pack as possible); while omegas are built a bit more for speed/agility and tend to be defensive/run loops around confrontations(dont let opponent gain any ground, keep threats from getting any closer to my pack) its not solid evidence when trying to tell someone's dynamic off it alone because people's natural variation is so wide and people's experiences can change how theyd react to stress and such so its usually ignored but trends Can be seen

Hi! Genuinely curious. I know a lot of artists don’t like qrts on Twitter because they remove engagement from the original post, but on tumblr, the engagement stays with the original poster, so I’m curious why you don’t want comments on reblogs. Is the engagement thing why you don’t like comments on your art, or is there a different reason?

hi! so im going to write this post with the assumption some people who read it may be unfamiliar with tumblr so pls excuse me if im explaining things you personally already know/is considered common sense/etc... i am also unsure which parts i should consider common knowledge/how far to explain so please forgive me if i overexplain a bit!

so on tumblr, comments on art do not affect engagement, but it is still commonly held etiquette not to add comments directly onto reblogs of art.

the reason for this is that when you add a comment directly onto a reblog (ie, not in tags nor the reply function) is that the comment becomes permanently affixed to that version of the post. it becomes a secondary caption, basically; it is not the same as a reply on twitter or a comment on insta. if the reblog with the comment is reblogged by someone else, that comment will remain and can continue to be shared, even if the commenter were to later delete the post. you now then, effectively, have a new version of the post that has additions to it.

this has become somewhat more of an issue lately, as tumblr recently updated to remove the ability to go to where somebody reblogged a post from. which is to say, if somebody encountered a post that has a lot of additive comments on it, but wanted to reblog the original/a version with less or different comments, they can no longer do so unless they scavenged someones blog for the post manually.

generally speaking, many artists prefer no direct additions be made to their posts (although sometimes people add image descriptor IDs, which i dont mind people doing) so that only the original iteration exists and can be reblogged, without anything extra added onto it that isn't meant to be there. the reply function (looks like a chat bubble at the bottom of a post) is a newer addition, but most people still prefer to add thoughts/commentary in tags -- since reblog tags only serve an organizational purpose within someones own blog/exist to help filter content warnings, it is very commonly used to add comments, since that will stay within someone's specific reblog and will not affect or change a post. original posters are still notified of every reblog and their tags (and i really like to go through and read/reread tags), so any commentary can still be appreciated and seen even without having to attach it to a post directly

tl;dr: id just prefer my art posts to be able to stand alone and be able to be shared that way w/out extra comments/a comment chain on them

Woke up to the random thought that the connection between semblance and aura is highly unclear

We know that if someone's aura breaks they can't use their semblance (unless the plot needs it >:/), so does that mean that semblances use energy from the soul like aura does? Is it like mana in video games where you only have so much before it runs out and needs to be replenished? If so, are there any substances that can give it a boost? What happens if you use the last of your aura on your semblance? Do people with passive semblances have a constant drain on their aura?

If they're not connected at all, then why would the absence of aura prevent semblance use? What would be preventing someone from using their semblance indefinitely?

God I wish the rules of this place were both clear and sensible

i think the villa diodati speech probably had a big effect on how yaz approached the doctor in flux and after

#not necessarily that it /changed/ how she approached her but like. 13 revealed a Lot abt how she thought abt the dynamic #like the fam were already like......lower down the ranking right? they already let her take the lead they already followed her orders #they werent TRYING to be like on her level like clara they understood very well how the dynamic worked #it was just the doctor that was holding onto the pretense #and i think they knew that but they probably didnt know Why exactly #but villa diodati revealed like a lot of sort of ingrained beliefs #suddenly it makes a lot of sense why shes keeping this hierarchy even if they dont know the details theyre all intuitive enough to get it #and that recontextualises the pretense too. it recontextualises the pretense in that like #okay so what she Says and what she Does keep not matching up. and what she Does is now-evidently trauma informed #so what she Says must be - well not Must be but with the rest of the context they have - what she would Like to be true #it's not they all know it's not but she really wants that to be true #i think that really informed how yaz approached the doctor afterward and maybe paradoxically helped them become way more of a team in flux #the doctor is still in charge but if yaz approaches her with the understanding that she needs to be in charge #then that creates the safety needed for the doctor to let yaz in a little bit #and i think thats also why yaz didnt push in sea devils - i mean lots of reasons obvs but #'i want to but i cant' is like. yaz has Seen that. yaz has seen what that looks like she understands what that means. very lived in #she has lived in the doctor's 'i want to but i cant'#idk am i making sense #i think that speech was a revelation and actually kinda helpful. after she got over the shock and hurt of it

21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways

hard one to answer b/c 1) i don't even know what exactly what category my art style would fall in, so therefore i don't necessarily know what would be the opposite of it? 2) idk how to properly categorize art styles in general or like the names and stuff [aside from like generic umbrella categories]

its kinda basic[???] but i do def have admiration for the rubberhose cartoon style, and/or also like that sort of early western 2000s cartoon style?? really exaggerated expressions and fun dynamic poses that sort of break proper logic but LOOK really fun and expressive in general, i wish i could do smthn like that lolll

there's also just some art styles that i feel are more soft and "rounded" ig?? i have no idea if that makes sense but those are sometimes interesting to look at too, i feel personally my art style's very like pointy/sharp? so i feel like i struggle w/ trying to make smthn softer w/ rounded edges and cutesier? (like best example i'd be able to think of is making like chibis. i suck at those 😭)

i have mixed feelings on [photo?]realism, and idk if this necessarily correlates w/ that but for a really niche one: vintage woodcut/lithograph illustrations (basically the really scratchy sorta ones you'd see in like really old books or newspapers?) are so fascinating to me, especially more so considering the medium but i also just like how they look its very interesting... not sure how to describe it properly b/c there's also quite some variation but it just looks so coolll
