So I was thinking about the whole elves-being-naturally-prettier-than-humans thing because that was always sort of weird to me when I FINALLY think I figured it out.
Humans used to know about the elves, and there are some things they still remember—hence myths about Atlantis and such. Reality is, humans and elves resembled each other in a lot of ways, but elves put themselves on a pedestal as better than every other species (that’s, like, canon, and better be addressed more fully at some point?) and that’s probably a part of the reasons humans “betrayed” the elves—they got sick of hearing that elves were better.
But it was just sort of implanted in their minds, though they weren’t fans of the idea, and elves didn’t go to great lengths to erase that idea from their minds. So humans remember myths and some things about elves, and Atlantis being the underwater city………and beauty standards.
It’s not that elves are naturally prettier than humans. It’s that human beauty standards are shaped around the natural looks of elves.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk

Did anyone do Fionna in Finn’s “big hairy warrior distracting himself from his grief at the detriment of everyone he cares about while he slowly turns into the father he despised” era or do I have to do everything myself around here

As I get older I realize more and more how incredibly helpful it was for me to get exposed to queer erotica when I was young. Had some friends who were furries and through them I got to see various kinds of queer erotica, which sexualizes and loves the human body in such profoundly different ways than cishet porn and erotica does.
It was helpful because it helped chip away at the idea of normativity, the idea that there is one central ideal towards which all things must strive.
Not in a "queer porn made me enlightened!!!" kind of sense, but in the sense that once the time came that I was ready to start confronting my internalized self-hate and body shame and insecurities, I had some ammo to work with. I wasn't going up against it alone - I could point to this art - gay male art, lesbian art, furry art, art from the transgender perspective, all of it - and know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I still had to do some work to accept it, and internalize it, but I could know because I had evidence that, yes, there are people who desire bodies like mine, and who love those bodies earnestly and viscerally.
And regardless of whether I am attracted to those people in turn, whether I want to date them or sleep with them, it means that that insidious little voice which is drilled into the back of our heads telling us that our bodies do not meet the standard of quality that qualifies us for love is, quite simply, wrong. Beauty ideals are not a universal value, and they arise from no necessary truth or rational principle, they are a series of deliberate choices made by cultures, influenced by the culture's values.
And when that culture is struggling with a history of white supremacy, with a history of systemic sexism and homophobia, when that culture is dictated in large part by the whims and interests of billion dollar corporations intent on selling Products & Services™, the choice of beauty ideal is neither neutral or healthy, and you can unmake that choice for yourself, and find something better.
Anyway, I guess my point is that porn is good for you actually, especially the gay stuff. Replace all the Marvel movies you watch with filthy Ao3 fiction and furry smut.

Thinking about Izzy training Stede, and how Ed feels about it.
For both of Izzy and Stede it's great. Izzy gets to show off his expertise and humiliate Stede while doing so. Stede gets to learn from an experienced pirate whose name and skills are known and (mostly) respected.
But Ed wasn't there. Does he even know any training was happening?
Izzy was the one who pushed the tough pirate agenda to Ed. And now as Stede's teacher Izzy has some authority over what kind of a pirate Stede will be as well.
We know Izzy is softer now. He isn't pushing any toxic agenda on Stede. He mainly teaches him basic fighting skills (with a tasteful amount of ass-slapping sprinkled in).
But with the complicated history Izzy and Ed share, I think Ed would worry about Izzy teaching Stede. Because if even a bit is true from the line "you made him the captain he is today" Ed should hate Izzy teaching Stede. Because Izzy would make Stede more like Ed, and Ed doesn't like who he is as a pirate! He wants to quit!
But Izzy training Stede was inevitable. It was one step in Stede's journey towards becoming the fearsome pirate captain he longs to be. And when Stede embraces the role, it's no wonder Ed's inner conflict bubbles to the surface. He leaves Stede and becomes a fisherman.

沉香 chénxiāng, agarwood
A type of wood commonly used for incense. Trees afflicted with heavy stress are highly preferred over their healthy counterparts, as it is their infected heartwood that provides agarwood's valued fragrance.
[ID: A portrait of Liu Chenxiang from the waist up, looking forward solemnly. He is holding a mountain-shaped incense burner which is emitting incense smoke. Where the smoke crosses his face, features of a young Erlang Shen are visible instead, including his Heavenly Eye. Behind Chenxiang is a split log of agarwood, the inside of which is infected and blackened. Where the incense smoke crosses the log is desaturated, making the log appear more like a mountain. The shadow of the log extends upwards and where it intersects with the smoke is colored like a 青绿山水 painting. Over the shadow is written “香炉墩 (Lit. Incense burner, Fig. Only son in the family)” from right-to-left in golden seal-script. A red stamp to the right of the text reads "宝莲灯 (Lotus Lantern)." End ID]

no but its like. luz and her siblings all have a scar thats a major part of their design and fucks up their symmetry. hunter had the iconic scar on his cheek and later belos gave him like 8 more everywhere. and king had his broken horn and even after they glued it back on it still left a crack. and then he cracked his skull and now that's a permanent thing. vee had a ring on her tail that was probably some kind of tag from when she was imprisoned. but in the epilogue even when she removed it she still had similar rings on her nose and ear. which still gives her the asymmetric look. and finally luz has her eyebrow scar from belos. she got it after she befriended king hunter and vee. it's the next level of their siblinghood.

Yes on hoping this is their ending 🙏 like this is everything we could have wanted for them and when in TWD universe are there actual happy endings? My anxiety cannot take putting their tired asses through any more Situations because I’m that scenario it’s pretty much russian roulette in terms of it being a matter time before they die. The image of them in love and reunited with their children is all I wanted and could hope for. Don’t understand people’s obsession with the continuation of stories, sometimes an ending to a narrative is a good thing! Unless we see them make cameos later on (in Daryl, Carol, or Maggie’s story) I want to kiss them farewell into the sunset lol
completely agree anon, well said! it IS okay for things to end, and i'd rather they end it here on a high note then potentially let it devolve into something less satisfying. this was a story that needed to be finished and they did that and did it beautifully.
