i think “you can’t go, it’s raining” hits particularly hard bc that’s not what Mike is actually saying, is it?

what he’s actually saying is a combination of “you can’t go, not again” and “you can’t go, I’m not ready to let go of us yet” and “I don’t want you to go, please stay” all wrapped into one, bc not only does Mike feel like he can’t say any of those things, but he’s also 13 here. he knows he’s saying this in the sense that he knows he’s feeling all of them, but I don’t think he’s sorted them all out in his mind in a way that allows him to fully understand and come to terms with all these feelings and why he’s feeling them bc u know, he’s 13.

so instead, all he says, all Will hears, is a pleading “you can’t go, it’s raining”

The things that's real fucked up about "it's not my fault you don't like girls" is it takes it from "unspoken thing about us" to "spoken thing about me".

It draws a line between them. It says it out loud and it makes it look like everything that was unspoken has been said, but it hasn't. It makes Will look "Stupid. So. Stupid".

He knew there was something unspoken. And Mike did what he and the writers always do, give you an answer good enough to distract, saying, "there is an unspoken thing. It's you. alone."

Throwing up over the fact that when Will said "yeah, I guess I did, I really did," he wasn't just responding to what Mike said about playing games in the basement for rest of their lives, he was also responding to Mike saying "what did you think, really? That we were never gonna get girlfriends?"

He thought he and Mike would never get girlfriends, would never feel like they needed to get girlfriends.

small thing to notice — Will’s crying, but the rain is acting as a cover and it’s hard to tell (especially because his expression is numb). Mike is also crying but it’s obvious so.

Thinking about the rain fight (yet again) , and Will's really got balls of steel. Imagine your best friend and crush calling you out for not liking girls, and then ten seconds later you're admitting to him that yeah, you hoped neither of you would ever get girlfriends. No one is doing it like him
