my favorite byler proof is that one scene in s3 at the sauna when mike is yelling at max to get away from the door but continues to stare at will's lips. like bro your friends are about to die this is not the time to badly cover up your repressed homosexuality michael.

I really hate how some people think Mike and Will would make out all the time. They would be the type of couple to cuddle. All. The. Time. They wouldn’t jump right into a PDA filled relationship. With how many times Mike had hurt Will, they would take it slow. Start out with cuddles and soft kisses, then slowly move into a more kissing relationship. They would not be Mileven in S3. Will and Mike have been through so much together that they couldn’t and wouldn’t rush into things. Especially with how long Will has had a crush on Mike. Will would want to enjoy spending personal time with Mike. Examples: cuddling, hugging, small kisses, shy smiles from across the room, looks of love, words of affirmation. Anything along those lines is what Will would want in his relationship with Mike. He feels like a mistake, and would want to be loved and reassured about that. That he isn’t a mistake, especially by the person he loves the most. He wants to feel loved and cared for by his best friend and (if the duffers let it happen) lover. Due to his childhood he was always told that he was a f@g, a queer, and probably many other things by his father. He was also abused by his father, mentally and physically. Will hasn’t caught a break for 4 seasons straight. Season 1 he got trapped in an alternate dimension for a week with no food or water, surviving on only his favorite song. Season 2 he was possessed by a 50 foot spider looking thing and only remembered his mom and his best friend. Mike had to watch this go on. He had to watch Bob get killed while trying to protect Will from everything. In Season 3 Will had to watch his best friends ditch him for their new friends and girls. The summer that he was moving many miles away from his friends , he was ditched and had to actually face the thing that possessed him a year before. His best friends continuously ignored how he wanted to play DND and instead they worried about how they would get their girlfriends back. In season 4 he had to watch the person he loved be in love with someone else (worse it was his sister.) He continued to put others happiness before his own. Which destroyed his mental health further. Then later on in season 4 he was going back to the town that caused him hell, all to figure he was going to have to relive the most painful things he’d ever been through and he still hasn’t gotten closure from any of that. Mike continuously fucks up his relationship with Will but always manages to fix it. Mike has also been through a lot with Will and on his own. Which is why they fit so perfectly well together. They have amazing chemistry and they understand each other unlike Mike and El. They belong together and they would never rush into a relationship with each other. They would take things slow and would love each other for real.

Little weird Byler details. Like, you know the classic everyone looks down the line until the last person does something? Usually for the first person to cue the last person in line. The party does that when Dustin gets back and El is pranking him...sort of.

Max and Lucas share a look, and then Lucas and Will share a look, and then....it just stops. Will does not look at Mike, Mike does not look at Will. He looks over at El to cue her.

So that exchange wasn't for the cue, because Mike would have had to be either listening himself or consciously tracking the others' looks without looking, so then that whole thing was just to set up: It's starting. Mike and Will are avoiding perfectly normal things so they don't "look romantic".

Lucas and Max looked at each other, sure, but so did Lucas and Will. This isn't a "thing". Nobody cares if Will and Mike do. But the fact that they both didn't makes it noticeable. We start seeing it as early as here, both Will and Mike avoid their usual interactions when El is there.

It's especially interesting contrasting that we've just seen them with Lucas and Max without El acting perfectly normal. So she's the difference. Look at your best friend to cue him in this prank you've set up? No, that'd be gay.

It's funny too because I actually rewatched this scene because I thought I remembered Will looking at Mike but Mike not looking back but no. Technically, Will initiates the lack because how is Mike supposed to "look back" if Will isn't looking at him. They're both doing it. They both know not to do what they do in front of others and they both know not to do what they do in front of El.

This post was gonna end but I keep having thoughts because now I'm thinking about Mike being "unreciprocated" and thinking that because yeah, Will did start acting different when he started dating El.

Still think it's kinda funny to end S3 with a letter from Hopper to HIS DAUGHTER El, to than begin S4 with a letter from El to HER BOYFRIEND Mike, while leaving the door open three inches and working on a school project about HER DAD, Idk but that isn't really romantic to me.

El grows up, she has nowhere to go. She will have to accept everything that happens and move on.

I think what is meant here is that Joyce is growing further, "growing spiritually." She literally survived the manipulative relationship with Lonnie, Bob's death, everything that happened to Will. She's strong and growing.

"Changing"

Mike is afraid of change, that's obvious. These changes are what he managed to understand in himself during this time, but understanding does not mean accepting, which is why he is afraid.

"I don't want things to change"

Will needs something that his feelings do not spoil anything. He doesn't want change. Doesn't want anything to change in their relationship with Mike, because it's important to him. He needs Mike, he needs something to be around. Therefore, he thinks that if the truth comes out, then Mike can step back.

"So, I think maybe that's why

And Mike knows that not much will return to their places. He knows, but as we'll see in s4 he'll try to do things "right" because that's the way things should be done...right?
