Weird little Hulu original about women, babies, and being Jewish. Creepy at points, scary in others, confusing for parts, and overall just a strange film. It leaves a lot of questions unanswered but also gives you a lot to think about which is half the battle. Certainly wouldn’t recommend if you are already freaked out about kids and all that, otherwise, got nuts.

The scariest part of this movie is that people won’t just let the protagonist do what she wants with her life, so what if she doesn’t want to have kids? Leave her alone!  Ella is a pretty successful lady who is in her late thirties so everyone is riding her about having a baby but she doesn’t want one so there has to be something wrong with her, right? It is impossible to be an adult who just is okay with not having children apparently but also no one is pushing for adoption either so what kind of message are they trying to teach us, huh? Seriously, at no point in this movie does anyone encourage one of these baby crazy women who maybe cannot have children to adopt kids BUT I DIGRESS.  

Ella goes to a new gynecologist with the bedside manner of a bedpan who tells Ella that her biological clock must be broken which is one of the most wack things for a doctor to just diagnose you with out of thin air. Again, heaven forbid you just don’t want the same thing as everyone else, you must be broken, right? It is impossible to have a different taste for things which is why we all flee to our separate corners of the internet for our niche groups, come ON people. Anyway, the vagina doc talks her into going to a place that will “fix” her clock.

But the medicine makes Ella see crazy and scary things. She is seeing spiders everywhere and a VERY tall lady with a bent neck (hello Haunting of Hill House). She is also haunted by clocks in all forms but her heritage clock that is passed down through her family grates on her the most. It even gets to the point where she destroys the thing in a fit of rage. We also find out that her husband has been setting her up with all of these crazy doctors because he wants a baby (wack). She is really mad at him but it doesn’t matter because we find out she didn’t destroy the clock at all…

After Black Swan I get a little tired of the bait and switch they pull with the protagonist seeing all sorts of wacky things but then later we find out they actually did something else entirely. When we find out she actually took apart her father instead of the clock that was a little meh, especially because how did she do that without getting blood all over her? She had the smallest amount of blood on her fingers but not what you would have with what she apparently (ha) did. Ella evades the police and jumps off the scenic overlook.

There was also a message about how scary and awful the holocaust was which is kind of bizarre but also very deep and intense. I appreciate their boldness on the subject as it is a divisive one to be handled (and somehow something some people doubt happened at all). They brought up how terrifying it was that it happened during “civilized” society. How that makes it feel like it could happen again today. Gave me chills. Far worse than the baby stuff.

On the double standards of Taylor’s love life and Swifties’ role in Taylor’s reputation

{Fair warning: this is kind of long and I actually originally wrote it during the Ratty stuff but it’s relevant now and this post from @9w1ft (specifically the tweet) made me think that maybe this needed to be really laid out there. }

Disclaimer: I am in no way claiming to know what Taylor’s sexuality is definitively, nor am I suggesting that every relationship she’s had with a man was fake, or that she is a lesbian. I myself have experienced enough bi erasure and biphobia to know better, but I had to put this out there explicitly so hetlors don’t have that as a “gotcha”.

Swifties have the lowest possible standards for whom they consider to be a boyfriend of Taylor’s.

Their standards are a) the media has to stir something up b) they have to interact distantly in some public capacity before they c) walk around together (holding hands or not).

I can give you the names so many women with whom Taylor acted like that, often for longer periods of time and with more interaction than a couple dinners and pap walks or whatever she’s done with those men. And that’s without time to go do research which would doubtlessly turn up more names.

To name some examples:

Karlie Kloss, Diana Agron, Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, Blake Lively, Cara Delevingne, Martha Hunt, Sophie Turner, Lorde, all three Haim sisters, Zoe Kravitz, Emma Stone, Camila Cabello, Lily Aldridge, Lily Donaldson.

(To be clear, I’m not suggesting that Taylor dated all or most of those women.)

Now, I have no doubt that if most swifties looked up photos of Taylor with a lot of those women they’d go “they aren’t even doing anything in that picture” or “they’re just walking side by side” or whatever else.

THAT’S THE POINT

I’m 1000% sure that if you photoshopped a man into basically any of those pics people would assume they’re dating because they’re walking together.

Almost all of Taylor’s supposed boyfriends have had significantly less interaction with her than those women, but people don’t hesitate to say she’s dating the men. Her team can and will deny it, but swifties will add a name to their list anyway, and that creates a whole other problem.

The sl*t shaming:

In my opinion, the sl*t shaming that Taylor has experienced for about the last 15 years has been, at least in part, because of swifties who jump to conclusions about men she’s seen with. When her own fans believe she’s dated however many guys, it’s that much easier for the media to repeat that and twist it to be negative.

If you wouldn’t look at a random guy and girl standing within a few feet of each other or walking together and come to the conclusion that they must be dating, why do you assume that about Taylor? Or, for that matter, does every person of the opposite gender that you associate with have to be your SO?

[And yes that can easily be turned around on Gaylors, but the whole point is that we aren’t solely using proximity to link potential exes or lovers to Taylor. We actually do the analysis of the lyrics, we break down the connections, we do the research.]

My point is that swifties have contributed on a large scale to Taylor’s sl*t shaming in a way that should make them think twice about who they claim she’s dating. Unfortunately as we’ve seen with this M*tty situation {and now the football guy}, they don’t seem to have the self awareness to realize how they’ve aided such a disgusting campaign of hate.

One more thing: you can say that no one will say those things now anyway because Taylor is on top of the world and they wouldn’t dare sl*t shame the Queen of Pop or “The Music Industry”. You might even be right. But if you do this and feel no guilt or shame over how your actions may have played a part in the several intense periods of sl*t shaming that Taylor has gone through previously, you need to think about why that is.

Taylor said it best in her speech at the Grammy museum in September 2015. She was introducing Blank Space and talking about the situation that made her write the song.

“In the last couple of years the media have had a really wonderful fixation on kind of painting me as like the psycho serial dater girl… It got pretty out of control there for a couple of years because… every article would be like, Taylor Swift Standing Near Some Guy. Watch Out Guy!”

That sounds insane, and it was definitely worse then than it is now, but the fact that it’s happening right now at all is ridiculous. Swifties need to stop helping the media tie Taylor’s name to men as if that makes her relevant. She’s a highly awarded singer, songwriter, and performer who has set and broken records (and then broken the ones she’s set) countless times. Swifties need to stop pretending that dating someone is what makes her interesting or we’re no better than the people who think she only writes breakup songs.

This part will be connecting “Peter” & “ILIPW” to other Taylor songs commonly attributed to Dianna.

Connections to “Peter”

We explored the connections between “Peter” and “ILIPW” in Part One. We will be focusing on other alleged Dianna-inspired songs here.

These are not all the songs associated with Dianna, and some of these you may not believe are about Dianna at all. Those are completely valid takes, and I’m not here to fight with anyone! This is just an overview.

“Wonderland”: Both songs touch on the theme of longing for a magical relationship that is ultimately unattainable. Again, the theme of yearning from Part One is revealed here, along with danger and excitement.

“Everything Has Changed”: Both this song and “Peter” discuss a) the passage of time, b) the impact it has on relationships, c) again, yearning.

“Treacherous”: Both songs explore the complexities of relationships and the risks one takes for someone they love. Themes of danger and excitement are in both narratives.

“Come Back…Be Here”: “Peter” and “CBBH” highlight yearning for someone (Peter/the muse) who is physically and/or emotionally distant. An undergoing discussion of reuniting with the muse is also conveyed throughout both songs.

“Clean”: Both touch on themes of healing and moving on from past relationships and broken promises. There’s a universal theme of acceptance, emotional catharsis, and renewal in both songs (in Peter, the latter is showed through: “the woman who [stood] by the window has turned out the light.”)

“Cowboy Like Me”: Both songs delve into the allure of fleeting connections, and transient lifestyles. Cowboys move around as they please, much like Peter or Alice do in their stories. Taylor conveys her shared experiences with the muse, despite their unconventional lifestyles. The theme of danger and excitement weaves through “Cowboy Like Me” as well.

Lyrical Parallels

Stars, Skies, & Windows

Several songs thought to be about Dianna can be tied back to key themes and imagery from Peter Pan.

“cowboy like me” is often attributed to Dianna. The line “you’re a bandit like me” is reminiscent of the Lost Boys, and eyes full of stars coincide with the imagery of stars throughout Peter Pan - the second star to the right.

In “Call It What You Want,” Taylor seems to be mending from an old relationship that left her brokenhearted. This line about windows being boarded up is interesting, even if the song isn't connected to Dianna (as far as we know...)

Yet AGAIN Taylor is referencing windows as a “portal” and even “time travel.” I haven’t heard anyone connect this song to Dianna, but the symbolism of windows and how Taylor writes about/views windows is FASCINATING. Additionally, “Midnight Rain” obviously has a water theme, which ties back into “Clean." More on that later.

OKAY. “I’d PICK YOU UP and WE’D GO BACK IN TIME”!??!!? Peter would pick Wendy up and go back to Neverland, where they NEVER. GROW. UP. Obviously, Taylor is not over the muse she is writing about.

I have SO many feelings about “seven.” It was mentioned briefly in Part One of my analysis. It echoes so many of the sentiments of “Peter”: closets, being kids, skies, the general feeling of loss.

Also, if you're iffy on "long story short" being connected, you should at the very least consider this:

Water

“Clean” has lots of water imagery. So do several other songs people think Dianna may be the muse of.

This also ties into “Midnight Rain,” whose lyrics are mentioned in this analysis. Though I haven’t seen this song tied to Dianna and personally am not convinced of it, the lyrical and theme ties do exist!

Lights, Lamps, Lanterns 

Lights are a recurring lyrical analogy in songs attributed to Dianna.

The lights in “Treacherous” illuminate a risky and forbidden path.

In “Wonderland,” flashing lights indicate the beginning of a love affair with this muse.

The lack of light indicates that the relationship with the muse is over.

Light indicates hope that her relationship could be salvaged; Taylor lets the lamp burn.

...until she turns out the light.

At the end of “Peter,” Taylor lets us know she has given up hope, at least for now.

I hope this makes sense! I didn't include every mention of a word or phrase; I made sure it fit with the overall theme of this post and connecting songs to "Peter."

I will put up Part Three when/if I've gathered enough analysis to warrant it! I hope this is has been a fun read.

Nasir. Such a gentle soul wrapped in a body of a warrior. ❛ If only to spare him the grief of watching you fall. ❜

ㅤㅤㅤThough  he  wish  it  weren't  so,  every  word  from  Castus's  scorned  lips  needles  at  Agron's  patience,  of  which  he  is  already  in  short  supply.  The  Gladiator  grits  his  back  teeth,  resisting  urge  to  bark  at  the  Numidian.  He  follows  the  line  of  the  other  man's  gaze,  mouth  flattening  into  a  hard  line.

ㅤㅤㅤ“Nasir  stands  more  warrior  than  most  men  in  Rebellion,”  Agron  snaps  in  return,  less  an  answer  than  a  challenge.  The  Germani  reminds  himself  that  his  lover's  goodwill  is  worth  this  annoyance of freeing Castus,  many  times  over.  He  just  wishes  the  fucking  pirate  would  stop  looking. 

ㅤㅤㅤ“…  I  would  see  him  survive  this  war.”  Agron  finally  relents,  quieter,  though  the  frown  does  not  ease  from  his  face.  “He  deserves  freedom…  true  freedom,  and  life  beyond  Roman  control." 

ㅤㅤㅤIt's  a  thought  that  has  plagued  Agron  these  past  months.  He's  always  known  Spartacus's  dream  of  liberation  might  come  at  the  cost  of  his  own  life.  For  a  while,  such  reality  served  as  a  comfort,  for  what  better  purpose  could  the  Germani  have  beyond  slaughtering  the Roman  Fucks  that  murdered  his  brother?  But  now..  now  he  has  Nasir,  a  blessing  made  flesh.  His  greatest  reason  to  live…  or  to  die  ensuring  the  Syrian  a  chance  at  a  real  future. 

ㅤㅤㅤBut  Castus  is  not  entirely  wrong.  If  Agron  were  to  fall,  he  knows  without  shadow  of  doubt  that  Nasir  would  follow  him  into  death.  It  is  a  thought  that  seizes  heart  in  the  Gladiator's  chest.  But  he  will  not  give  the  Pirate  such  satisfaction  of  knowing  the  weight  of  his  words. 

ㅤㅤㅤ“The  only  death  on  mind  should  be  your  own.”  Agron  grumbles,  dusting  flakes  of  snow  from  his  furs.  He  doesn't  look  at  Castus  again,  “..and  whether  it  will  come  from  Roman  blade,  or  mine."

On October 18, 2018, United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the US would be merging the Embassy and US Consulate General in Jerusalem into a single mission. Two days after the US Embassy opened, Guatemala moved its embassy to Israel back to Jerusalem.[33] Paraguay also opened a Jerusalem embassy to Israel, citing the US precedent.[34] Newly elected Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benítez decided to relocate the Paraguayan embassy back to Tel Aviv.[35]
