FFXIV Write 2023 Day 29 - Contravention
Contravene: Verb. To dispute or contradict (a statement, proposition, etc). Characters: Ayaka Mizushima (WoL), Estinien Wyrmblood, Alphinaud Leveilleur, Alisaie Leveilleur Expansion: Shadowbringers Rating: G Notes: Follow-up of my entry for yesterday, Blunt! Same spoiler (or really lack of) warnings apply!
It took until sunset for one of their friends to notice their absence.
“There they are!” Alisaie yelled and Ayaka closed her eyes. Oh, they were so screwed.
“I think I would’ve taken Krile,” Estinien murmured. He had a resigned look on his face though, like he saw this coming. Ayaka did as well, but it still somehow didn’t prepare her for the lecture coming their way.
“Alisaie!” Alphinaud called out next, sounding a tad bit further from his sister. “W-Wait up!”
“No, Alphinaud, I will not! Do these two have any idea how long they’ve been gone for— Don’t roll your eyes at me, Ser Estinien!”
Said man groaned at getting caught and Ayaka resisted the urge to laugh at him.
From her left, she heard Alphinaud’s cautious footsteps as he walked over her lance and knelt down beside her. “Are you quite alright?” he asked, peering over her. He was taking in her appearance—probably looking for anything in need of immediate care.
“Aside from my legs hurting, I’m fine,” she answered, flashing Alphinaud a reassuring smile. “Tis nothing to worry about. I’m just out of practice with my jumps and overtaxed the muscles…”
From her right, she heard Alisaie and Estinien speaking, followed by a pained hiss from the elder Elezen. She assumed Alisaie must’ve done something because she told him to hold still. A difficult endeavor—the man was the worst patient any cleric had the pleasure of trying to help.
“That’s still something to worry about, you know,” Alphinaud disputed. He still sounded fond though, if not a bit exasperated, by her. “Here, allow me.” He held out his hand and the familiar flow of healing magic appeared, entering her system. She groaned in discomfort before she started to feel her muscles relax.
“Did you warm up?” Alisaie asked next, coming over to Ayaka’s side next. “Before you and that fool started whatever ridiculous jumping contest you pulled yourselves into?”
The “fool” in question grumbled something. Ayaka wasn’t quite sure what it was, but a part of her agreed anyway. “Yes we did. As I told Alphinaud, I’m just out of practice.”
“Then you’d ought to be more careful!” Alisaie started, crossing her arms over her chest. “Maybe starting with something smaller before working your way up to whatever fancy Dragoon tricks you both have.”
Ayaka would concede that she had a point. The two of them, mainly Ayaka, got too caught up in having someone on their skill level to practice with again. As far as she could tell, the First had no equivalent to the Ishgardian Dragoons, so it made finding someone to practice with difficult. Likewise, Estinien had few people he felt like he could go all-out against in a sparring match.
So maybe they both were a bit too excited.
“Sorry,” Ayaka apologized, shifting her gaze between both twins. “We’ll try to be more careful?”
“Somehow I have a hard time believing that,” Alisaie drawled. Alphinaud hummed in agreement, which Ayaka felt like was a great betrayal. Surely they weren’t that bad! “I wish you both would understand that it’s not a good idea to keep pushing yourselves like this…”
That part had been said quieter, but from behind Alisaie, she saw Estinien stiffen for a moment. His body gradually relaxed and his expression mirrored Ayaka’s own—twin looks of guilt.
“Alisaie…” Ayaka started, unsure of how to reassure the young woman.
“We’ll try,” Estinien interrupted gruffly, leaving hardly any room for argument. “We can’t promise much, but we’ll try. Aye, Ayaka?”
“Yes,” Ayaka agreed, hoping the smile on her face helped soothe Alisaie’s nerves.
“Well you’d better!” She pouted, looking over her shoulder at Estinien. “Or you’ll never hear the end of it from me!”
“Isn’t that already the case?” Estinien grumbled. That set Alisaie off, who spun around to face him completely and start their particular brand of bantering.
“Three jokes in one day,” Ayaka sing-songed, sharing a smile with Alphinaud. “The world is definitely ending.”
“Don’t jinx us,” Alphinaud chided playfully, laughing at his sister and Estinien’s antics.

The Scions' opinions of important political meetings and Alliance war councils, a thread:
Estinien: if Aymeric won't be there, okeydokey, whatever 👍 but if Aymeric WILL be there, absolutely not!! being subjected to questions like "my friend! what've you been up to?" and "how are you?" is more than he feels like dealing with tbh. also if he has to suffer Aymeric bullying him about his lack of money sense one more time he's dragoon jumping out the window
Krile: politics aren't my forte but if you need me to, I'll go :)
Alisaie: UUUUGGGHHHH [bangs head on table]
Alphinaud: this is his natural habitat. it is also where he's most powerful, so beware !!
Thancred: putting that PhD in espionage to good use and helping his friends/allies in so doing is good for his health (and his self-esteem)
Y'shtola: sometimes it's a tasty problem to chew on and sometimes it's just annoying. if Garlemald is involved, it's probably the latter
Urianger: he's been invited to exactly two meetings out of like 30 and only attended one (and showed up unannounced to another). he'd rather stay home and do nerd shit or go scouting with Thancred. we stan an introverted nerd king ✌️
G'raha Tia: just happy to be brought along for the ride ❤️ no situation is unbearable so long as he's by his inspiration's side 😊
O'ravi: [doodling chibis of her friends on the back of a report and scribbling hearts around them] wydm this is "work", i'm just hanging out with my boyfriend and my besties

ffxivwrite2023 16: JERK an unlikable, annoyingly stupid, or foolish person
lumelle & alisaie at a ball(?) historians called them best fri— 615 wc.
“Insufferable prick,” Lumelle muttered into her glass only moments after the son of a house more minor than hers had skulked away, only to frown when she realized it was empty. “I swear, none of these house heirs understand the words ‘not interested’ unless they’re the ones saying it. ‘Oh, I’ll break your foot with my heel if you keep asking’ is too unbecoming of a lady my arse. What else could I have said short of ‘piss off’? Almost makes me miss Sharlayan.”
Next to her, Alisaie brought her hand up to cover her mouth so quickly Lumelle thought she was choking on her pastry. Then she realized it was because Alisaie was trying not to laugh in a shower of crumbs and embarrass herself before a good portion of Ishgard’s upper class, which was just as worrisome but for seperate, more personally embarrassing reasons.
Lumelle’s frown turned into a pout as she stepped closer to her date for the night and said, quiet enough for only her to hear: “Alisaie, I will steal your pastry if you keep laughing at me. It wasn’t that funny!”
Alisaie’s muffled laughter didn’t stop or lessen, but she did offer Lumelle the remaining half of her rolanberry tart, which rendered Lumelle’s threat rather pointless. She took the peace offering anyways and bit into it while Alisaie found a glass of water to down and gathered herself enough to look Lumelle in the eyes without her stifled giggles returning anew—she was still pouting, but now because Alisaie seemed to find it impossibly hilarious in contrast to her otherwise put-together outfit and appearance.
There was little else Lumelle found more dreadful than an Ishgardian ball-party-soiree or whatever they were calling this one, but at least she was in good company that she’d trade for no hand nor title, and in no shortage of good dessert.
“Gods, your face,” Alisaie said finally after her third tiny cup of water stolen off some baffled waiter’s tray. “Do you know how hard it was not to laugh in the middle of your conversation with that man? You looked like you were trying to be brave about having bit into a lemon.”
Lumelle’s brows shot up past her bangs, her eyes wide. “Was it that bad?”
“Not bad enough to get the point into his head by looks alone. I’m certain I only noticed because I know you.” Alisaie leaned closer, the skirt of her dress brushing against Lumelle’s fingers. “Anyways, how long did Auphine say we should stay for?”
There wasn’t a chronometer visible from where they were on the floor, but Elwin had slipped something into her pockets before they’d left the manor. Lumelle looked for it now, feeling the brush of warmed metal in her pants pocket, and found a small pocketwatch engraved with roses and lilies in her hand. The button let off a small click as she opened it.
“Another bell and a half,” she said, tilting the watch in her hand to show to Alisaie when she leaned over with a grimace. “I’m sure I could manage the last bit if you want to make your escape now.”
“Don’t be silly.” Alisaie flicked Lumelle’s forehead lightly. “I said I’d stay by your side, so I will.”
“If I recall, that was meant in a ‘I’m not letting you run headlong into danger alone again’ kinda way.”
“And I remember you saying that Ishgard was more dangerous to you than half the wildlife in Aldenard, once.”
Far be it for her to put up an unsightly resistance, if Alisaie was so determined. “They’re like sharks,” Lumelle said, reaching for Alisaie’s hand to twine their pinky fingers together.

Younger Siblings Tournament Bracket Reveal
A few things I want to mention before I reveal the bracket (and make the post really long because all the matchups will be listed in text):
Seeding of fictional characters in tumblr polls is inherently subjective. I did try to make it so that more popular characters/media would (most likely) face off against each other in later rounds, but I may be overestimating or underestimating the popularity of some characters/media, especially ones I'm not familiar with. There are some round 1 matchups that are probably a closer match but none of them are between the strongest candidates... I think.
The more niche characters will probably get obliterated in the first round as per Squimbus' Law. This is a tumblr poll and I do fully expect more popular characters to sweep, but that doesn't mean you can't encourage your friends to give your niche faves a fighting chance.
Also there are some matchups I literally just thought would be funny. Please don't take this too seriously.
I'm sorry BNHA fans.
(Preliminary Patch Notes 3/14: Swapped brackets 2 and 3, and brackets 19 and 21.)

Three Elezen Walk into The Radz-at-Han Market...
Read it on AO3 above (registered users only) or under the readmore below -
Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Final Fantasy XIV Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Characters: Estinien Wyrmblood, Alphinaud Leveilleur, Alisaie Leveilleur, Original Female Character(s) Additional Tags: Oneshot, Ficlet, Alisaie Leveilleur Being Alisaie Leveilleur, Estinien not-so-secretly wants kids Summary:
Prompt: Fulsome
A merchant sees three Elezen with snow white hair and makes a very incorrect assumption.
A Raen merchant huffed in frustration. It was a quiet day at the markets of Radz-at-Han, which meant her coffers were lighter than she’d like. But a moment later, she heard the sounds of other merchants down the hall calling out to clients – which meant there were clients to call out to in the first place. Finally! She put her most winning smile back into place on her face and waited for her chance.
An Elezen man came into view, with two nearly-matching teenagers in tow. All three had bright white hair. What a fulsome trio they were. And, hopefully, looking to buy some glassware.
First, however, she would lay on a little charm.
~*~*~
“Good sir! Good sir!” a Raen merchant shouted in greeting to Estinien. He hardly did more than glance in the seller’s direction until she added, “The Sisters have blessed you with such beautiful children, and twins at that! You must be so proud!”
All three of them stopped in their tracks. If the merchant intended to say more, she didn’t get the chance as Alisaie all but squawked in indignation.
                “He is not our father!”
                The merchant’s eyes widened.
Alphinaud put a hand on her shoulder. “’Tis a simple mistake, nothing more. There is no need to get upset.”
Alisaie harumphed. “Well, maybe they shouldn’t assume that every Elezen that pass by are related to one another!”
“C-Consider my lesson learned. I am terribly sorry for offending you,” the merchant responded with a bow of her head.
“Come, we mustn’t dally,” said Alphinaud.
The three of them continued on, leaving the merchant not only lacking in fresh business, but thoroughly admonished.
Estinien glanced to the twins from his peripheral, his mind still locked on to being mistaken for a father. He made a mental note to visit Mehrahd and Yahsra at the orphanage later.

With all the anger and outrage from Yoshi p's interview, it is making me sad so I just wanted to get my mind off it by asking for something sweet. What was it like in the Modern au for Agni and Estinien during their first days of parenthood
(Anything for you. <3)
"Agi, are you ready to meet your babies?" Alphinaud asked. Gods, this poor kid...erm, doctor looks exhausted. Get thee some coffee, Dr. Leveilleur!
Agnes nodded quickly as she sat in the wheelchair. Still a bit too wobbly after my C-section. There was no fucking way I was pushing out all five. Nope. Absolutely not. "Yes please! I want to see them!"
He smiled and led the way into the NICU at Congregation Infirmary with Estinien pushing Agnes. Estinien was in the operating room watching as they were born. If only I had been...NOPE. I didn't want to be awake. I'll see them now. My sweet little babies...
"Apparently, Alphinaud's sister Alisaie is their doctor in the NICU." Estinien rumbled above her. "They're in good hands. They're so small, but I've heard if they came out sooner they'd be so, so small." Poor Estinien. He's been a nervous wreck this whole pregnancy and came to visit me while I was here on bedrest every day and night when he could. My poor love. He's so tired. "You feeling alright, my sweet?"
"Sore but alright, love. I just want to see them." I hope they let me hold them. They should be okay for that right?
With a swipe of his aetheric keycard, double doors into the NICU opened, and Agnes swore that Alphinaud's twin looked exactly like him. "Alisaie! I've brought Agnes and Estinien Varlineau to see their quintuplets."
The teenage doctor turned and grinned. "Excellent! They're all doing very well. My estimate is around six weeks here, and then they can go home." HOME! I want all of us to be home together...especially now that home isn't a construction nightmare. "Your babies are right over here..." She walked to a group of five incubators lined up with the names they had previously chosen---Esme, Hamignant, Marcelin, Philipine, and Laurent. "You can touch them through the little--"
"Can I hold them?" Agnes said quickly. "Please? Even if it's for a few moments?" Please. I need to hold them.
Alisaie laughed. "Of course you can! And you too, Mr. Varlineau." She moved out of the way for Agnes and Estinien to stand next to Esme's incubator.
Gods, it's really her. Our little girl. She's so lovely. Her little nose and ears are so cute! And her little hands and feet! Agnes carefully put a hand inside and grazed her daughter's back. "Hello, my little love. It's Mummy. I love you so much. Go on, 'Stinien."
With tears streaming down his face, one of his large hands went into the incubator. Two fingers gently touched her head. "She's so beautiful." He looked at the boys and smiled softly. "They all are. Let's see Hami now..."
After touching each of the five, Alisaie picked up Philipine first and handed him to Agnes to hold. Undid my hospital gown a bit so we can have skin-on-skin contact. Very important! He rested gently against her chest, and tears began to fall. "Oh my little love, are you sleepy? You can nap right here with Mummy. My little Pip..."
Wiping away his own tears, Estinien laughed. "Pip?"
"Pip. He's Pip. Our little Pip. Oooooooooh what a little yawn! You're such a good little boy, yes you are!"
Tearing up himself, Alphinaud sniffled. "Mr. Varl...Estinien," he corrected himself when Estinien glared at him. "Sit down next to your wife and I'll bring Esme over."
For the next bell, each parent held their children for the first time.
Not a single eye was dry in the NICU.

WoLyse Week 2024: Day 4 - Kiss and Make Up
Arashi awoke to terrible, terrible pain. Constant and overwhelming. So she decided to go back to sleep instead.
Arashi awoke later to less terrible pain. Still a bastard-high amount of it, but enough that she could tolerate. So she cracked open her eyes to see where she was. What she saw was a blurry red-and-white shape, which gasped and then bolted away when they saw she was awake. Alisaie, presumably. That was good. Or bad. She always was a worrier. Then there was a lot of noise that sounded an awful lot like shouting. It was taking time for everything to settle in Arashi’s head, so it wasn’t all that clear what they were saying. Just that Alisaie was, as always, taking things much too seriously and someone else (Fourchenault, maybe?) was trying to get her to calm down.
Then the exhaustion made itself known and Arashi knew no more.
Arashi awoke a third time swearing that she’d not get ambushed by such a cowardly tactic again. If exhaustion wanted to make itself known it would do so the right and proper way, dammit. This time when she opened her eyes she found things a lot more clear. Including the pain, alas. But she could at least pick out the person watching over her this time, and… oh. Oh dear.
Alisaie’s post had been usurped. By Lyse. Who looked very, very tired and very, very upset. Arashi was about to reconsider her stance on exhaustion when her wife’s eyes met hers and realisation dawned. The sheer relief in Lyse’s face cut Arashi deeper than any blade. Coward.
“You’re awake,” Lyse breathed. Arashi tried to speak. Coughed and sputtered instead. Tried not to greedily gulp down the water offered. Failed. Coughed and sputtered some more.
“Looks that way,” Arashi managed, eventually. “How long have I been out?” She grimaced at the croak in her throat.
“A week.” That explained the weakness, then. And quite a few other things. “You woke up about three days ago, according to Alisaie, but you were gone again before anyone else could confirm it.” It was amazing to Arashi that Lyse managed to say it so matter-of-factly, given how badly her hands were shaking against the sheets. “You’re under the care of the Leveilleurs until they deem you safe to move. When they do, you’re coming home. With me.”
Arashi said nothing for a while, then managed, “I’m sor-”
“Don’t.” Lyse couldn’t keep the shake out of her voice this time. “Don’t finish that sentence. You’re here and alive and that’s enough.”
Arashi never was good at following instructions. “But I almost…”
“Do you think I don’t know that? Alisaie told me the whole story when we finally got word that you were stable. About Ultima Thule, about their idiotic sacrifices, about you staying behind to finally end things. I thought you were supposed to be the smart ones! I thought you were meant to find the better path, without more blood and death! And then I find out that the only reason anyone came back at all is because of a literal miracle from Hydaelyn, and you… you…!”
Lyse flung herself at Arashi with a sob, heedless of the au ra’s gasp of pain as she wrapped her arms in a death grip around the injured woman. Arashi tried to return it, but one of her arms was decidedly against the idea. The other listened, curling itself around Lyse’s back as she wept into Arashi’s chest. Arashi said nothing, not for lack of trying but for lack of ability. Lyse’s grip was dangerously strong and entirely heedless of Arashi’s wounds. Besides, the pain was what she deserved for what she did.
Eventually, Lyse’s grip lightened. Not completely, but enough to let Arashi breath freely again. “Is he dead?” Lyse spoke, voice muffled by her position against Arashi’s heart.
“Yes. I made sure of it.” She still wasn’t sure how it was she hadn’t joined Zenos there, at the end of everything. Maybe it was the Scions, desperately wishing for her return. Maybe it was Zenos himself, his final wish for her to seek greater strength. Or maybe it was her own will, her own love and conviction guiding her back to the light. To her sister. To her friends. To Lyse.
“Good,” replied Lyse with a fiery conviction… which was immediately undercut with a sniff. Arashi tried to ignore the wetness against what she was sure was a very fine shirt. It was overwhelmingly large on her anyway. Lyse looked up at her, eyes still burning. “Tell me why you did it.”
“He had to be sto-”
“No. Tell me why you did it alone.”
Ah. Arashi considered her options. She could tell her that only she would have been strong enough to put him down for good. That she wouldn’t let her friends die for her sake. That Zenos would have scattered them to the wind. She could lie. But she would carry it for the rest of her life, and besides, Lyse would know. So…
“I wanted to know. That I was stronger than him. I wanted to fight someone at my level and win. No distractions. No pressure of the world on my shoulders. I wanted to be free to fight at my full strength without fear of hurting anyone I cared about.”
For a moment, there was silence. And then, “I see.” Quiet. Thoughtful. Breaking her heart.
“I know,” Arashi continued. “I know that’s horrible. I know it’s wrong. I fought against it for so long, tried to convince myself I was anything more than the bloodthirsty beast Zenos saw me as. But he knew me from the very start for what I was. A sword is meant to be wielded. And my mother made me a very, very good sword.”
“You’re wrong.” Lyse’s voice was quiet, but it boiled with anger. “A bloodthirsty beast? You? The woman who never even thinks before lending a hand to those that need it? Who fights and fights and fights long after anyone else would put down their sword in defence of those who can’t? Whose soul nearly split in two twice over from the pain and the guilt of all she’d done and chose to keep on rallying and liberating and defending anyway? You’re not a monster! You’re a hero! How can you not see that?”
A hero. The same thing she’d been called by so many others, time and time ago. Saviour of Eorzea. Envoy of peace. Liberator. Shadowbringer. So much and so often and every, every time, it had rung hollow. How could a woman who murdered her own father be a hero? How could a woman forged only to kill be some standard of hope to rally around? But hearing it from Lyse, it felt… different, somehow. A blade that cut a thousand times opening a new path to her heart. She could find herself… believing it. And she knew, looking into Lyse’s eyes, that her wife believed it without question. That her faith had never once wavered.
“I don’t know…” Arashi began, but found herself silenced by a finger against her lips.
“I do. If you don’t believe in yourself, believe in me. And if I ever see you straying from that path, I’ll drag you right back onto it. Understand?”
Arashi nodded, not quite trusting herself to speak. But that was enough. Lyse’s finger was replaced by her lips. Once again Arashi found the grip around her tightened, but she found she didn’t much care.
Neither woman noticed the door cracking open slightly, nor the lock of silver-white hair and bright blue eye that peaked through the gap. But they were safe enough. Alisaie wouldn’t tell a soul that their charge was awake until the pair were quite done being insufferably sweet with each other. It was the least they deserved.

FFXIV Write 2023 Day 13 - Check
Check: Verb. To make an inquiry, investigation, etc., such as for verification. Characters: Alphinaud Leveilleur, Alisaie Leveilleur, ??? Expansion: Endwalker Rating: G Notes: Takes place sometime post-Endwalker! Spoilers for MSQ are referenced, but otherwise this is just a somewhat spooky encounter the twins have in the middle of the night.
“Gods, my back is killing me,” Alisaie complained, extending her arms up and groaning as the popping feeling she felt in her back. She slouched in her chair, watching her brother comb through the book he was reading. “How long do you plan on staying, brother?”
“Not too much longer,” Alphinaud answered, thumbing the next page. “I just have to finish this last chapter…” He trailed off, humming under his breath. Alisaie rolled her eyes, resting her chin in her hand and staring at her brother.
“Are you going to finish your sentence, or am I going to have to try reading your mind?”
“Huh?” Alphinaud asked, looking up from his book. When her words registered, she could see the light, embarrassed flush on his face. “Oh! Right, well, I was going to say that you can feel free to return to your quarters whenever. I don’t want to keep you from resting.”
“And leave you here, all by yourself, in some dark library?” Alisaie asked, gesturing to the high bookshelves surrounding the pair with narrowed eyes.
“Tis not like these shelves are strangers, dear sister,” he countered. “I remember many nights spent here studying for exams, researching papers…”
“And returning home late to Mother’s fretting,” Alisaie reminded him, giving an exasperated sigh. “Come on, you can put that away and return to it tomorrow at a reasonable hour—”
But before she could finish her sentence, a loud THUD! echoed in the room, causing the pair to jump in their seats.
“What the—!” Alphinaud exclaimed, startled. He nearly fell out of his chair in shock, wildly looking around. Alisaie felt her breath catch, getting up out of her chair and reaching for her rapier, muttering a curse under her breath when she realized she left it in her room.
“...Should we investigate?” Alphinaud probed, slowly getting up out of his own chair and looking towards Alisaie.
“And get ourselves murdered in the middle of the night?”
“I highly doubt something like that will happen. It’s likely just a mammot—”
Alphinaud cut himself off with a high pitched yelp, running over to Alisaie when another, louder noise could be heard. Alisaie made a note to tease him about it later (and perhaps let Ayaka know so she could have a comrade in this endeavor), but for now she focused on the fact that the noise sounded closer than before.
“Alisaie,” Alphinaud hissed, grabbing onto her upper arm with a tight grip. “What do we do?”
“Surely we can go around the other way?” Alisaie suggested, frantically looking for an escape path. She muttered another curse under her breath when she realized their corner of the library only had one way out. “Bloody hell, maybe we deserve this for choosing some dank corner to spend the night in—”
“Don’t say that!”
“Well now, what do we have here?” They heard a voice—a bit deeper, but oddly familiar—say from behind them, causing the pair to screech and jump away. Alisaie brought her arms up into a fighting position, trying to emulate what form she’s seen Lyse and Ayaka take as monks. Behind her, Alphinaud was trying to catch his breath, clenching his shirt tightly.
“Who's there?!” Alisaie asked, trying to peer into the shadows and having a hard time seeing the other occupant. She didn’t remember the room seeming this dark even minutes ago!
“Oh. Forgive me, I didn’t mean to cause any alarm,” the voice apologized, sounding more sincere than Alisaie would have guessed. Slowly, a figure emerged from the darkness and the twins felt struck with surprise to see an Auri woman—dressed in full armor at that—standing in front of them. Her golden eyes were taking them in, but she made no comment on their defensiveness. “I came here looking for a specific tome and, to my surprise, I wasn’t the only ones here this late at night.”
“T-Tis quite alright,” Alphinaud answered for the two of them, his voice losing the shakiness it gained moments ago. “I hope we didn’t disturb you and your reading…”
“Oh not at all,” the woman said, giving them a reassuring smile (again, something about it felt familiar). “I had just got here when I thought I heard something and decided to investigate…”
“Was it that loud thud?” Alisaie questioned, curious now. “I can promise you that wasn’t us.”
“Yes, it wasn’t,” the woman said confidently. “You needn’t worry. I handled it.”
Somehow that didn’t feel as reassuring as she was sure the woman was hoping it sounded. At least it didn’t to Alisaie, but behind her she felt Alphinaud go more at ease, the grip on her jacket relaxing.
Before Alisaie could say anything, the woman tucked a strand of dark hair behind her horn and turned towards the pile of books the twins had accumulated in their time spent here. She raised a brow at the collection, but must’ve decided not to ask about it if her unconcerned shrug was anything to go by. She did, however, turn her attention back to them and once again Alisaie felt like she was being sized up. “You two should get some rest, it’s rather late. Surely your… parents must be concerned about your wellbeing so late at night.”
Sure, their mother would be worried if she found out they were reliving their Stadium days of spending late nights in the library—especially when they’re supposed to be relaxing now that the Final Days are over. These days, she thinks Ayaka would be the more likely candidate to give them some grief for staying up so late. Alisaie could practically hear their friend’s worried tone as they woke up late for the third day in a row, wondering if they wanted any herbal tea recommendations to help them sleep better at night—
“I can put these books away for you so you can head out of here,” the woman offered, although it sounded less like an offer and more like an order.
“We couldn’t possibly leave you to clean up our mess,” Alphinaud countered quickly. “It’s our responsibility—”
“To get a good night’s rest,” the woman interrupted, a slight smirk on her face. “You both might be young now, but you won’t be able to keep this sort of thing up forever. It’ll cause your body more wear than you think.”
Alisaie groaned, shaking her head. “You sound just like someone we know.”
“Then perhaps you’d ought to listen to your friend, hmm?” The woman teased, shooing them away. “Off you go. I can clean up after you. I’m used to doing things like that.”
“Because you’re a Dark Knight?” Alphinaud asked suddenly, making Alisaie turn to give her brother a funny look. Silently, he gestured to the greatsword strapped to the woman’s back and Alisaie muttered another curse under her breath for not noticing it sooner.
“Quite,” the woman answered. The smile on her face morphed into something more secretive, which was doing awful things for Alisaie’s curiosity. She almost wanted to ask the woman what she meant, but decided against it. “Now go on, you two.”
“Thank you,” Alphinaud said, giving the woman a quick bow in gratitude. “Is there any way we can repay you?”
“Just sleep well and try not to spend late nights alone in a drab corner like this,” the woman answered, sounding serious. A dark look crossed her face for a second and Alisaie was reminded, suddenly, that this woman managed to sneak up on both of them. “You never know what could be lurking in the dark.”
Although they were well aware of what sort of awful things lurked in the shadows (voidsents, bandits, all sorts of evil beasts, and formerly Ascians), neither of them knew what to say to that.
Giving one final bid of gratitude, the pair set off towards the Annex in uncharacteristic silence.

Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia Deuce and Vivi Ornitier Banners
The World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander event just started in the Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia (DFFOO) mobile game. This event came with 2 banners.
World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander Banner 1
The World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander banner 1 features the following chars and their weapons:
Deuce from Final Fantasy Type-0 (#ad) - 15cp, 35cp, Ex, LD, Force or FR, and Burst or BT
Vivi Ornitier from Final Fantasy IX - Force only
Alisaie Leveilleur from Final Fantasy XIV - 15cp, 35cp, Ex, and LD
Amidatelion from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers - 15cp, 35cp, Ex, and LD
Tumblr media
Have everything on this banner except for Deuce's FR and BT and Vivi's FR.
World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander Banner 2
The World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander banner 2 features the following chars and their weapons:
Vivi Ornitier from Final Fantasy IX - 15cp, 35cp, Ex, LD, FR, and BT
Deuce from Final Fantasy Type-0 - Force only
Sabin Rene Figaro from Final Fantasy VI - 15cp, 35cp, Ex, and LD
Aphmau from Final Fantasy XI - 15cp, 35cp, Ex, and LD
Tumblr media
Have everything on this banner except for Vivi's FR and BT and Deuce's FR. Have a copy of Sabin's LD that's been limit broken once.
Deuce from Final Fantasy Type-0
I like Deuce from Final Fantasy Type-0 well enough though wouldn't call her a fave or anything.
Have Deuce's 15cp, 35cp, Ex, and LD fully MLB. Her Ex has been Purpled or upgraded to Ex+ 3/3. All her Summon Boards have been completed and she has her Bloom Stone.
Deuce has 3 MAX BRV 330 with Unremitting Earnesty Boost★★ (Raises party's INT BRV, ATK by 5% while HP is at least 50% of MAX) Artifacts.
Tumblr media
She also has 3 ATK 108 with Unremitting Earnesty Boost★★ Artifacts and 1 INT BRV 170 with Unremitting Earnesty Boost★★ Artifacts.
Can't remember for sure now if I got her High Armor, or if I completed all of her Character Enhancement Boards. Maybe I only unlocked parts of her Char Boards, particularly the tiles that would give me her LD Call and LD extension passives.
It's been a long, long time since I last used Deuce. It's also been a long, long time since she last got an update and rework.
When I heard that she finally got her own Force and Burst weapons as well as a much-needed rework in the Japanese version of Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia, resolved to pull for said weapons once they became available in the English or Global version of the game since I do like her.
It also helped that apparently, Deuce becomes a really good support and buffer after her rework and with her new weapons.
A bit later on - can't remember the exact details now but IIRC, we got this event. I think it was a Heretic or lockout-style event. Either I needed to use Deuce in one of the fights in said event, or maybe I just thought about bringing her.
Either way, I ended up bringing Deuce to said fight. IIRC, it was a Shinryu or level 300 quest. Since I was bringing Deuce to such a hard fight, and since I was planning to max her out in the future, decided I might as well complete her as much as I possibly could now. This should help make it easier to bring her to a Shinryu quest in her current state.
So if I hadn't done it yet, got Deuce's High Armor then spent the Book and Ingots needed to Blue it.
Tumblr media
Also completed all of her Char Boards, assuming I haven't done most of them yet.
Then I also equipped Deuce with the following real Spheres:
Tumblr media
Alphinaud Leveilleur's (from Final Fantasy XIV) Buff Success Base Attack All Shorter C Sphere
After granting buff: Raises party's INT BRV, ATK by 5% for 3 turns
Maria's (from Final Fantasy II) HP Heal Base Attack All Shorter C Sphere
After recovering HP: Raises party's INT BRV, ATK by 5% for 3 turns
Hope Estheim's (from Final Fantasy XIII) Buff Success Attack Boost All Shorter D Sphere
After granting buff: Raises party's MAX BRV, ATK by 5% for 3 turns *Does not stack with same sphere
So she's basically complete now until her rework and the banner with her Force and Burst weapons gets here.

World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander Banner 2 Free First Multi-Draw Results
As part of some campaign or other, we get a free first multi-draw on both of the World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander banners.
To my complete and utter surprise, my free first multi-draw on the World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander banner 2 actually gave me a Force orb.
Tumblr media
Hell, yes! This turned into a dupe of either Sabin's or Aphmau's 15cp and -
Tumblr media
My very first copy of Deuce's Force weapon.
Tumblr media
Hell, yes! Super pleased to see this. Now I just need her Burst weapon.
Tumblr media
World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander Banner 1 Free First Multi-Draw Results
My first free multi-draw on the World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander banner 1 gave me a dupe of Amidatelion's 15cp. Meh.
Tumblr media
World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander Banner 1 Free Multi-Draw Tickets Results
Have 3 multi-draw tickets that can be used on either of the World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander banners. Decided to use all 3 of these tickets on banner 1.
The 1st ticket actually gave me a Force orb. Nice. Ended up with dupes of Amidatelion's 15cp and Ex as well as Deuce's 15cp.
Tumblr media
Also got my very first copy of Vivi's FR. Yay.
Tumblr media
Now all I need from this banner is Deuce's Burst weapon. Hopefully, it shows up soon.
Tumblr media
The 2nd ticket gave me dupes of Amidatelion's 35cp, Ex, and 35cp. LOL.
Tumblr media
The 3rd ticket gave me a dupe of Deuce's Ex.
Tumblr media
World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander Banner 1 Multi-Draws Pulls Results
Currently have 1246910 gems on hand. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get Deuce’s BT without having to pity it. And wouldn't mind getting more dupes of Deuce's and Vivi's FRs for limit-breaking purposes.
Anyway, here are the results of my multi-draws on the World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander banner 1:
1/11 - dupe of Alisaie's Ex
Tumblr media
2/11 - dupes of Deuce's Ex and Amidatelion's 15cp
Tumblr media
1/11 - dupe of Alisaie's 15cp
Tumblr media
4/11 - dupes of Deuce's 15cp, Alisaie's LD, Deuce's 15cp, and Alisaie's 15cp
Tumblr media
2/11 - dupes of Alisaie's 15cp and 35cp
Tumblr media
The results of my next multi-draw were really surprising, to say the least.
First, I got 2 dupes of Deuce's 35cp after the usual bronze and silver trash.
After that, the animation seemed to stall as the background changed to a sort-of purple and then dupes of Vivi's and Deuce's Force weapons showed up.
As if that wasn't enough, the background changed again and then - seemingly all of a sudden, Deuce's Burst weapon showed up as well.
Tumblr media
Hell, yes! Super pleased to see this. So glad I didn't have to pity Deuce's BT.
Tumblr media
Was at 200 G Tokens when Deuce's BT showed up. Now down to 1216910 gems.
Tumblr media
World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander Banner 1 G Token Exchange Shop
Went to the World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander banner 1 G Token Exchange shop.
Tumblr media
As mentioned, currently have 200 G Tokens. Used all of these to exchange for 2 Book of Ruin's Mysteries.
Tumblr media
Deuce from Final Fantasy Type-0
Afterwards, used the dupe Deuce FR I got plus 8 High Power Stones to fully MLB my 1st copy of Deuce's FR.
Tumblr media
Then I spent the Book and 3 Ingots needed to Green Deuce's Burst weapon or get it to BT+ 3/3.
Tumblr media
After that, spent the points needed to max out Deuce’s Force Enhancements from Level 30 to Level 50. Completed the Character Enhancement Boards for her Force weapon as well.
Now my Deuce is fully complete and maxed out.
Tumblr media
Have a Level 5 of 5 Special Ultima Weapon so equipped Deuce with that as well.
Tumblr media
Can’t wait to try her out on some endgame content.
Conclusion
So, what about you? Did you pull on either of the World of Illusions Spiritus: Alexander banners? What do you think about Deuce, Vivi Ornitier, and all the other chars featured on these banners? Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions by leaving a comment below or by reblogging or replying to this post.

how hard could it be
ffxivwrite2022 03: temper v. to anneal or toughen by a process of gradually heating and cooling
valdis & alisaie. 5.1-ish? 336 wc.
“I think you got water in it.”
Which was impressive, considering Valdis only turned away for a few moments to dry off the last of the pixieberries, but Alisaie looked agitated enough without them saying that out loud. The chocolate was definitely seized, sticking to the sides of the bowl in lumps. Syhrwyda would most definitely not approve, but she also wouldn’t be trying to bite down a smile the same way Valdis was.
Alisaie whipped her head around, knuckles white from her grip on the spatula. “From where?!”
“The water bath. Are you pressing the bowl down?”
The room was quiet as Alisaie’s brow furrowed, grip loosening; sure enough, the bowl filled with the chocolate she’d been trying to temper bobbed back up with a pitiful slosh of the water.
It was a little funny how red the poor girl’s face got, Valdis thought. Alphinaud, of course, was less likely to blast you to the next shard over in the aftermath, and also far easier to turn into a tomato, but it wasn’t quite the same. All this over Lumelle, who would probably faint at the suggestion that Alisaie made her sweets for her nameday. She’d been doing an impressive job too, up until now; this was still the first bowl of chocolate that Alisaie had almost overheated.
“We still have plenty of chocolate left over,” she reminded quietly, before Alisaie actually summoned her foil from across the room and blasted something in her Pendants apartment to smithereens. “And if we run out, I’m sure G’raha still owes us damages for everything and will pay for more.”
There was a brief, tense moment where Valdis genuinely wondered if she needed to pick up a spoon and cast Mighty Guard before Alisaie scorched something, but all Alisaie did was mutter a string of curses as she exhaled sharply.
“Right,” Alisaie said, strained even as she pulled out another bowl from the cabinets. Valdis took the room’s temperature staying the same as a good sign. “Round two.”
