alright babes lay it on me:

unfortunately, i only get 12 options for polls, so i can't include every and all of our beloved tacos. and obviously, not all chicken or beef and other tacos are the same, but i'm trying to be broad enough to hopefully fit all T^T

Summertime Sadness Chapter 7 Sneak Peek :D

Maribel had already purchased the snack she was the most excited about. It was back at John B’s, chilling in his freezer.

That snack was Danonino, a strawberry yogurt aimed for kids but Maribel still liked to eat. What she would do with the strawberry yogurt was put it in the freezer with popsicle sticks in each of the small cups. Thus turning it into frozen strawberry yogurt.

The memory of her father Isaac making the simple but yummy snack for her when she was a little kid had stuck with her. That’s why she loved the snack so much, because her father introduced it to her, and because it was freakin’ delicious.

Now there was only one place in the whole island that sold Danonino. The Calimex near her house. Except the small store didn’t always have it stocked, and if they did they would run out really fast. Apparently Maribel wasn't the only one who enjoyed Danonino.

So it would be a good day for Maribel whenever she was able to buy a case of Danonino. Although there was that one time when her excitement about being able to buy the strawberry yogurt had caused her to get a black eye.  

The only (thankfully) time Maribel had been so happy that she accidentally punched herself. One of the few times it was her and not JJ who got hurt from something so damn ridiculous.

The Pogues had been shocked when they saw Maribel walk up to them the next day with her right eye all bruised. JJ had looked the most angry, assuming she’d been jumped by some Kooks. Only his anger and everyone else’s worry faded and they laughed their asses off once Maribel explained how exactly she got the black eye.

It had been a few months since that happened, and JJ would bring it up sometimes to tease her about it. Maribel was embarrassed about the whole thing, but she couldn’t be really annoyed at his teasing. It was laughable. Accidently punching herself because she was happy over strawberry yogurt? That sounded something right out of a Saturday Night Live skit.

i refuse to have my first mexican food in california in months be from a fancy sit-down restaurant. thats not how calimex is meant to be consumed. they dont even have horchata or tamarindo.

Began working at a popular CaliMex Burrito Place in December and was curious abt why their online order system is so hectic. We'll sometimes have 60+ orders for one half hour time period (and then 30 for the next) and orders seem to pop up at random. I realized that there's no time limit to how late a customer can make an order. Someone ordered a burrito at 8:38 pm and wanted it to be ready at 8:45 pm. That's not even 10 minutes! It takes less than a minute to make a meal, but when you have 60+ orders (some with several items in them) due in the same 30 min period, things get rough. Not to mention there not being enough employees in the store and prep leaving us without enough guac or fajita veggies for night shift🤦 the customers get so pissed and theres nothing we can do to get the orders through faster

Trying to say all American food is just one thing is ridiculous. Even certain types of foreign food vary bu state! Literally one of the biggest adjustments of moving to SF was not having Texas or Midwestern style Mexican. Calimex is truly its own thing, and all the places I’m thinking of specifically are owned and run by Mexican people, yet where they are in America changes how they make their food!

And try finding matzo ball soup at delis outside of New York or a runza outside of Nebraska - both the food and the chain restaurant. Many states have brands and even restaurant chains that only exist in that state - I can think of several in Texas alone! Hell, I’ve had to watch debates on in n out vs other regional fast food chains, because even BURGER recipes differ.

Like have people just looked at the food served in the American portion of Epcot and decided that’s all we eat? Lmao
