Callum is easygoing and happy, with a ready grin. He’s one of the friendliest people in the paddock with fans and other drivers alike. He’s got the typical dry British sense of humor and can be self-depreciating, except when it comes to his racing. In that area, he is analytical, confident in his own abilities and ready to offer constructive criticism to his team every time he gets out of the car. He built his team up from scratch in 2022, often finishing races higher than his car was capable of and with the addition of a second car and driver, is continuing to lead the way. Rumors abound that he is headed for a bigger and better team in the near future. While his current contract is for several years, only 2023 is guaranteed and there are likely several different options available to him and the team concerning where he will drive.

With Dixie at the groomers and Ellie distracted enough to drag her away from all of the new things she had gotten for her birthday, Beth had bundled them into their coats, into the car before hotfooting it over to her brother’s house. Although they had seen each other at their parents house at various times, Beth couldn’t be sure she’d had any one-on-one time with her brother since that early morning in the kitchen after Maddie had gone missing. It was only a short drive, thankfully for Beth’s sanity as Ellie put her favourite song on repeat once again, just as they pulled up on the driveway. 

Helping Ellie out of the car and to the front door, Beth used the key she had ‘for emergencies only’ to open the door and let herself in, calling out, “It’s me, it’s totally an emergency so don’t yell at me for using my key. Don’t ask what the emergency is though.” Closing the door behind them, Beth took off their coats before leading them through and out of the hallway. “Cal? When I started shipping them:

I was leaning to shipping them since the start of Season 2, but everything began changing on the boat scene and when Rayla almost confessed to Callum on 2x09, I was really invested on these cuties 

My thoughts:

Rayllum has to be one of my favorite OTP’s of all time. I don’t remember being so invested in a shipp. I’ve never written fanfics about another shipp, I’ve never created a habit to refresh the Ao3 page to see what new fanfics appeared and if the ones I’ve read have been updated. I’ve connected to many people by posting about them, it’s perfect 

What makes me happy about them:

I love their dynamic and how they complete each other. How even though they are dating after the Ambler, their friendly banter doesn’t change. I also love how the writers did the “Friends to Lovers” trope, very noice

What makes me sad about them:

How they both lost so much in their lives but even so, they find comfort in each other and how they both understand each other so well, even though they traveled together for about a month

a random thought: You know what I keep thinking about? Viren's line from episode 2(?)," It's time to be the man he thinks I am." I just...keep thinking about that. About the way Viren said it. It felt almost like he was steeling himself, almost like a goodbye, of sorts. It's been in the back of my mind since I rewatched the show a month or two ago.

An unpopular opinion: Now that I think about it, I'm not sure what the unpopular opinions of the fandom really are. Is it an unpopular opinion to say that Rayllum isn't the best ship to have ever been shipped and that there's more to the show than just that? Probably. I'll go with that.

My Canon OTP: ...well, Rayllum is my favorite of the canon ships, so...Rayllum, I guess? They're not my OTP for the fandom, though.

My Non-canon OTP: Soren/Nyx (this is my OTP for this fandom).

Most Badass Character: Ezran. Kid literally finds a dragon egg, persuades an assassin and his half-brother into a basically impossible quest, rides a giant ass banther, talks to dragons, takes up a crown, then loses it only to rally an alliance to depose a horrible king and save an elven army and the slumbering queen of the dragons, the archenemies of his family, ending a thousand-year-old war. What about that is not badass?

Most Epic Villain: Is this even a question? Aaravos.

Pairing I am not a fan of: Runaan/Ethari. I have nothing wrong with it, I just genuinely don't care for it.

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): Hmm. I don't really feel that the writers have screwed up any characters, so far, actually. They've been pretty consistent with characterization and character development, and I really appreciate it.

Favourite Friendship: Soren and Pyrrah. They're best friends and no one will tell me otherwise.

Character I most identify with: Probably Soren.

Character I wish I could be: Uhhhhhh...I guess Marcos? I wish I had his courage and conviction, to stand with his principles and loyalties even when an entire kingdom is arrayed against him. I really admire that, and I hope that I have even a tenth of the courage Marcos had.

Smellershot

When I started shipping them: I...could not tell you. It didn't take me too long to start shipping them, though; maybe like a month after I joined the fandom back in 2020?

My thoughts: They're severely underappreciated. Incredibly soft and fluffy, but ripe with amazing opportunity for angst and heartbreak, as well as stories about the sides of the war that we didn't get to see, the darker side, the smaller side, the side that ordinary kids and not royals and nobility and Avatars are part of. They're just...regular people, and I think there's something powerful in that. Sort of showing that even in the depths of hell, you can still find love.

What makes me happy about them: They were able to find a measure of peace and love when everything around them was burning to the ground. They're each others' safe space, and I love the warm, wholesome feel of that.

What makes me sad about them: Their lives mean they really don't know when the end will come so they have to live fast, but they really...they really have a "will they, won't they?" kind of thing going on, in my opinion, for a long time, so there's a chance they never, ever get to that point before one of them is gone.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: They get relegated to a side-ship, and I hate seeing that. Also, they just...

Things I look for in fanfic: That they show up in a fic period. Even as a sideship. Seriously. I'll take whatever crumbs I can.

My wishlist: The only thing on my wishlist for this ship is that fandom sees how beautiful of a ship it really is. It's wholesome, and sweet, and just brilliant.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: For Longshot, Ty Lee would be my number 1 choice, followed by Mai. For Smellerbee, I think Toph would be a good partner. I could also see Jet, but I'm a little hesitant about that one. (I'll admit I have a hard time thinking of other people to ship Smellerbee with.)

My happily ever after for them: They retire to a peaceful little village in what becomes the United Republic, far removed from politics in war, have a kid of their own, and turn their house into a foster home or refuge of sorts for local orphans and troubled kids.

Rayla

How I feel about this character: Two things I really enjoy in fantasy media: badass elves, and swords. Rayla is/has both. That's all I needed to like her in the first place, but what got me to really fall in love is that, to paraphrase The Wheel of Time, she's a hero who insists with every breath and everything she is that she's not. That, in my opinion, makes her even better. She's heroic, but humble, and even after everything refuses to give up her humanity.

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: Callum, obviously. And honestly? I kinda think it would interesting to see an enemies-to-lovers arc with Claudia. It would be a disaster of a ship but it would be so cool.

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character:

My unpopular opinion about this character: Actually I don't really think I have one of these. Weird. Normally I can find at least one, but...I'm drawing a blank.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: She gets buddy-buddy with Soren and becomes a training partner/confidant. Honestly, they both need someone they can relate to, and I think, as strange as it might sound, they'd be able to fill that role for each other.

Favorite friendship for this character: Her and Ezran. Big sister/younger brother vibes for them and I love it so much.

My crossover ship: I got nothin', here. Although I did, when I was looking back for another ask about Rayla I did once, see a fanart once of her impersonating a Kyoshi Warrior next to Suki and I am...now having an idea form.

Awwwwww! Them!!!

When I started shipping them:

Somewhere in the middle of season 2, when they were trying to protect each other and their feelings. (Also, in 3 x 01, when Rayla went all “96 reasons why I love Callum”)

My thoughts:

Considering that they are both young, I think the show handled their relationship really well. I am super excited to see their journey in the next seasons!!!

What makes me happy about them:

The fact they are so young but mature enough to understand that what they feel for each other is real and are not afraid to admit those feelings (I am soft)

What makes me sad about them:

The fact that they are literally fighting a war (they are kids ffs) instead of being soft and going to school or something idk.

I don’t read TDP fics but if anyone is sexualising these two or writing smut, I will literally call the cops istg.

my thoughts: my feelings about the ship changed after watching s2 and s3, so now i prefer virrow as a tragic, one-sided ship

What makes me happy about them: i don’t know if that counts, but that scene where you can see a painting representing Viren and Harrow standing side by side and where Harrow says “i know you will stand by my side through anything”

What makes me sad about them: s1ep3. When Harrow’s life was in danger, these two spent all their time arguing. Harrow threw the “you are a servant” line in Viren’s face (the creators confirmed it was really painful for Viren to be treated like that) and then he died, full of anger and regrets, without having the opportunity to clear up all these misunderstandings.

An unpopular opinion: I don’t think Shinsou should be in class 1-A. I think his goal to get there is reflective of his all-or-nothing mindset that has been holding him back and part of him overcoming that mindset will and should involve accepting that there are ways to become a hero without the schooling that some of his peers are getting, and being a hero is about doing HIS PERSONAL BEST and doing the right thing, even when it’s hard, not where he graduated from. Also, he has friends in the gen class and I want him to keep and appreciate those bonds.

What makes me happy about them: God, everything? When they call each other’s names, when they stare fondly at each other, when they touch each other’s shoulders in fondness or reassurance or comfort or simply to remind the other that they’re there and they have their back. God. Keith would and did cross the stars to find Shiro, and Shiro CAME BACK FROM THE DEAD for Keith! They’re soulmates!!!

What makes me sad about them: :) Such a shame we never got a season 8 :) I bet we would’ve had a really amazing resolution to the passion and intimacy of their friendship :) Really just such a tragedy season 8 was cancelled before it could ever air :)

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: I really and genuinely do not care for femsheith. Even when it’s a genderbend, which usually checks out for me, I am just Not About It

Things I look for in fanfic: A good balance between tenderness and friendship. It’s not all serious heavy emotions all the time, they’re best friends and they LIKE each other, but it’s also not just all goofs and gags, they’re very soft with each other. Also smut.

My wishlist: Not entirely sure what this is asking but

1. Shiro to acknowledge Keith’s confession from the clone fight

2. Keith to try and play it off (he’s a terrible liar so we know this would not work) because he thinks he’s being rejected

3. Shiro to gently take his shoulder in hand and say he feels the same

4. A tender kiss

5. Absolutely nothing about their public relationship changes. They were in love before they confessed and they are not the types to get all blushy and nervous. Maybe they’ll hold hands or sling their arms around each other’s waists in front of others now but that’s it.

6. They do cool space-politics stuff and then travel the stars together after the war ends, retired and exploring all the wonders the universe has to offer them with their cool space dog.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: I don’t have, like, alternate ships for them. I like Heith, and Rolo x Keith, but only really as concepts? I like Keitor and Lotor x Shiro (they have a ship name but I’m forgetting it right now) but only in the context of fanfic, in canon I would want him to work it out with Allura so that’s kinda out. I just genuinely cannot see them with anyone but each other, really. 

My happily ever after for them: In a houseboat, but like, for space. Not a spaceship, since those are really big and built for a lot of people, but a spaceboat. Them, their dog, and the endless expanse of space for them to travel and explore together.

Idk I guess I like Claudia x Rayla content but I also don’t really see it? It’s cute to observe? But not something I actively partake in? But I find it charming? I can’t really say if Rayla should be in this list or not.

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: SOREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEYRE SUCH GOOD SIBLINGS!

My unpopular opinion about this character: I don’t think her using dark magic is any different than a butcher carving up a cow to be eaten. Yeah if she’s using elf or dragon body parts that’s fuckin bad, because those are people, but humans have a LONG history of killing animals for food + tools + materials, so using certain body parts for magic is also?? Not the worst thing in the world. If a magic sheep can have its meat turned into mutton, its wool turned into clothing, its skin turned into parchment, and its bones turned into  magic, why SHOULDN’T Claudia use it’s bones? Yes, there’s a toll on her body, but like we’ve seen in the show, Dark magic is a FORM. It requires practice, study, patience. The reason Callum reacts to it so badly is because he’s basically some dude who’s never worked out in his life waltzing into the gym and immediately going for the heaviest barbell. Claudia has studied this extensively, practiced it, built up her “magic muscles” so to speak, and so her body can handle it. Viren also overdoes it, but that’s because he knows he can butterfly the negative affects away and doesn’t particularly care if he gets a little ghostly in the process.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: she and Callum had had a chance to talk it out and make up. They’re friends! Best of friends! They have been since they were young kids! She genuinely was trying to do what she thought the right thing was, that’s all she’s ever tried to do, and I think Callum is the kind of person who, with some time to simmer down, has enough empathy and understanding to see that and reason with her.

Favorite friendship for this character: Callum and Ezran
