See MEDIA link in bio where @scripps_ocean PhD Candidate and CKTH.Org contributor, @jordigirl808, discusses the industry’s shaky grip on evaluating seafood ecolabels: “As a ‘seal of approval,’ they help to identify products that are deemed to have fewer negative impacts on the environment than functionally or competitively similar products. When they were first introduced to the market in the 1990’s, seafood ecolabels were claimed to be a market-incentivized approach to support the sustainability of fisheries. While each seafood ecolabel may differ slightly in their standards, a majority of them boil down to ensuring: 1) The target species caught is not overfished; 2) methods used by the fishing company to source the product have minimal impacts on other species (bycatch) and the environment; and 3) effective management is in place that the fishing company is in compliance with.” Big ups and much respect to Jordan’s continued study and service of this subject #ckth #da2020 #cantknockthehustle #ecosidesiomemena #admeliora #xiiig #credoquiaabsurdum #delmar #carpediem #futuresport #tracknation #bewater #holidaysinunitedstates #gobiggreen #theintersectionisreal #liketupacssoul #calworthington #beengoingonforyearsbill #jeetkunedo #peterbeard #ghostbustinassbillmurray #agequodagis #wutang #tredecimg #billwouldkill #tmc (at Scripps Institution of Oceanography) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXd7piYr1Al/?utm_medium=tumblr

My Yelp Review Moral Crisis
First- Obviously I didn’t win the Presidency. Our worst case scenario candidate did and he is methodically making sure every Boy Scout remembers his historic win. I’ll deal with that guy in another post. Here’s what I want to talk about today- my one Yelp review.
Yep, just one. There was that time several years ago when my former bosses (restaurant owners) thought I created a fake account to write an absolutely (splendid and) terrible review of their restaurant. Alas, it wasn’t me. I’m not the type to stew and wait an entire year after I leave the job to finally write the review I wanted to write all along. I still wish I knew who that hero was who wrote the review- which was mysteriously taken down from not-so-democratic Yelp who will “help” with your negative reviews and re-order them on your page for enough $$$.
But I digress. Today I posted a Yelp review for, hands down, the worst car buying experience I have ever had. Like, these guys might as well have been the Dad in “Matilda.” Except they were at a local institution in Long Beach- Cal Worthington Ford. Notorious for (now deceased) Cal Worthington’s commercials in which he gallivanted around with circus animals and the “Go See Cal!” song sounded like “Pussycow!” to every kid who grew up in SoCal.
I called them up for a quote on a warranty for a used Ford Fusion I was about to buy at Carmax. Hungry like the wolves they are, they offered me an even better deal on a very comparable car in their lot. Enough “better” that I turned around and let them demoralize me for the next three hours.
Have you ever had that experience where someone is telling you 1 + 1 = 3 and you’re like, “that doesn’t seem right,” and they keep saying “you’re not understanding the math...”? Ladies, YOU know what I’m talking about! That was one part of the experience.
There was also not showing me a damaged part of the car when I asked specifically to see the area where it was hidden (under the trunk lid). Oh, and the fact that the figure he lured me with was not the figure he wrote on the contract. **By the way, don’t worry...I returned the car and got my money and my old car back 100%** There was also the AutoCheck report they showed me, at my request, for a completely different car...which I had to point out. AND THE FACT THAT I DROVE THE CAR OFF THE LOT AND TEN MINUTES LATER THE LOW FUEL LIGHT CAME ON. And it was a plug-in hybrid and had no charge. No gas. No charge. Ridiculous.
You might be wondering at this point- wait, why did you buy the car? That’s a whole other story. The context had more pressure in it than I need to get into in this post. Suffice to say, I was so distressed by the time I was signing papers, and I knew they had a 72-hour money back guarantee, that I decided to go through with it and assess everything at home when I cooled off. You know how it is.
So why am I worried about writing a Yelp review? What’s wrong with an honest and scathing Yelp review? What worries me is that these are people with lives and bills and families just like me. I can’t separate the humanity from those reviews. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I named names in my review...but I hesitated when I thought about the salesguys as people. Ultimately, I remembered how many times I had to hold back from calling them c*cksuckers to their faces and it made the decision to put their names in bold really easy.
Yet I wonder- Is there karma for Yelp reviews? I don’t believe in karma. But I do believe in the law of equal and opposite reactions, and I can easily make it metaphysical and use it in a woo-woo way to make sense of things that happen to me. For example, our President. The pendulum swung way further away from Obama than we thought it would, but I guess that’s what pendulums do. I suppose a force of good like Obama would be counteracted with an equal force of bad, bad, bad, bad, bad like Trump...again, I know I’m distorting a law about physics.
So that’s it. I posted a detailed Yelp review about my awful experience at Cal Worthington Ford (with Sam & Mario & Sean), and now I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop. Or was my review the karma they got for doing such a terrible job at honestly selling me a car? I wish I believed in God because then I could just pray and ask him/her, but you can’t fake it ‘til you make it on that front!
For now, I will take a Tums and put on a meditation and hopefully fall asleep. The car I had was decent anyways. I guess it’s meant to be, as my fellow new-age pseudo-science friends would tell me.

Did you know that there was a time where it used to be Siegfried and Roy and Cal? Good, because that's not true. Listen to our newest episode "TiVo's Revenge: Live From The Comedy Central Stage" if for nothing else to hear us nervously stumble over words.
