💬 Do you have any spooky books on your TBR this month? 🤎📖 Thank you to @torbooks for adding this book to my spooky TBR! The Witch in the Well is a dark Norwegian thriller from Camilla Bruce, author of You Let Me In. When two former friends reunite after decades apart, their grudges, flawed ambitions, and shared obsession swirl into an all-too-real echo of a terrible town legend. Centuries ago, beautiful young Ilsbeth Clark was accused of witchcraft after several children disappeared. Her acquittal did nothing to stop her fellow townsfolk from drowning her in the well where the missing children were last seen. When author and social media influencer Elena returns to the summer paradise of her youth to get her family's manor house ready to sell, the last thing she expected was connecting with—and feeling inspired to write about—Ilsbeth’s infamous spirit. The very historical figure that her ex-childhood friend, Cathy, has been diligently researching and writing about for years. What begins as a fiercely competitive sense of ownership over Ilsbeth and her story soon turns both women’s worlds into something more haunted and dangerous than they could ever imagine. And thanks to @torbooks I have a great giveaway to share with you! ✨ GIVEAWAY ✨ Enter to win a copy of The Witch in the Well! Hello everyone and hope your week is going well. Today from me it’s a #spiceupyourlifestack or books based on the Spice Girls nicknames! 🐴 Sporty - a book that involves a sport - I’ve gone for the @womensprize long-listed The Sport Of Kings, still on my TBR which involves (amongst other things I’m sure) horse racing. 😱 Scary - a frightening book - Birdbox which I’m reading at the moment. 👶🏻 Baby - a book with a mum and/or baby - I Am Not Your Baby Mother - a slight nonfiction book which talks about what it’s like to be a black British mother. I saw the author, Candice Braithwaite at a couple of bookish events and I can’t wait to read this! 💵 Posh - a book with rich characters - How To Kill Your Family. I loved this book so much! It features a woman who is getting revenge on her rich family who have been strangers to her as she was raised by her single mum. 💄 Ginger - a red book - I’ve gone for Triflers Need Not Apply which is also firmly on my favourites shelf. Coincidentally it also features a nefarious female lead! 🧐😂 I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #scottishbookstagrammer #bookstack #myfavebooks #thesportofkings #cemorgan #womensprizeforfiction #womensprizelonglist #birdbox #joshmalerman #iamnotyourbabymother #candicebraithwaite #howtokillyourfamily #bellamackie #triflersneednotapply #camillabruce https://www.instagram.com/p/Cf9qvLsrGy7/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hello beautiful bookish folk and hope you’re having or have had a good Saturday. Winding down here in the UK 🇬🇧 and I thought I’d do a little #stacksaturday #matchyourdrinkstack or #matchyourmugstack as I saw on the gorgeous @allthegenres page. I’ve read five books from this stack and four are still on my TBR. That might be a shock to some of you as normally it would be the other way round 😂 However, I chose to take it easy today and picked them from my newest bookshelf - hardback favourites and TBR books coming up soon. Still to read are - The Echo Chamber, Luster, Consent and From The Wreck. Read and enjoyed/loved are - Triflers Need Not Apply, The Muse, a Thousand Ships, The Island Of Missing Trees and The Exhibitionist. As always, I’d love to know all your thoughts! Let’s have a chat in the comments. Have a lovely weekend everyone 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstack #redwhiteandbluestack #theechochamber #johnboyne #triflersneednotapply #camillabruce #themuse #jessieburton #luster #ravenleilani #athousandships #nataliehaynes #consent #annabellyon #fromthewreck #janerawson #theislandofmissingtrees #elifshafak #theexhibitionist #charlottemendelson #womensprizelonglist2022 #beautifulhardbacks https://www.instagram.com/p/CcJLER4LlUr/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

When I first started reading this novel, @emmasbookishcorner told me I was in for a treat and she was absolutely right. You know when you’re loving a book so much that you slow down your reading pace so you can savour it a bit more? That was Triflers for me and although it was bittersweet when it ended l’ll always have it on my favourites shelf to re-visit in the future.⁣ ⁣ Triflers Need Not Apply takes its story from an actual woman who lived in Chicago in the 1900’s (Belle Gunness) and went on a murdering rampage to pay men back for all they have taken from her. Beginning with her husband Mads, Bella Sorensen gets a taste for violence and deception, especially against men. Her older sister, Nellie, recoils in horror as she begins to realise what Bella is doing and realises that she might not be able to stop punishing men in the worst way possible. ⁣ ⁣ I loved that we got to see Bella from the very beginning in her childhood, before America and taking the name Bella, she was a young girl in Norway called Brynhild who grows up in a difficult household with a tyrant for a father. When a relationship with a young man leads to tragedy, she is determined to escape her circumstances and join her older sister in America, chasing the American dream.⁣ ⁣ This novel is a gripping and captivating account of how in the right (or should that be wrong?) circumstances, an individual can be pushed over the edge and commit monstrous crimes. Bella is obviously an extreme example as she is compelled to murder again and again. I found her both fascinating and terrifying in equal measure and I think Camilla Bruce has done an incredible job of capturing her character. Of course, Bella is a horrendous woman but she is so very readable! I was completely under the authors spell and I can’t wait to see what she does next. ⁣ ⁣ Five glorious stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 ⁣ ⁣ #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookreview #bookrecommendations #fivestarreads #fivestarreview #favouritebooks #triflersneednotapply #camillabruce #readthisbook #memorablebooks #lovedthisbook https://www.instagram.com/p/CWiNjlMLxXl/?utm_medium=tumblr

Hello everyone, I’m SO glad it’s Friday! Hope you’ve all had a better week than I have 😅 Today I’m hauling three gorgeous hardbacks. Even though I’ve not read any Elif Shafak yet (Ten Minutes is on my TBR soon) I couldn’t resist her new novel. This story has been described as a rich, magical tale of belonging and identity, love and trauma, nature and renewal. I’m so excited to have Triflers Need Not Apply on my TBR this month after Mr B picked it for me to read. My bestie @emmasbookishcorner loved it and as we have similar tastes in books, I really trust her. This story is based on a real woman, Belle Gunness whose murderous rampage in 1900’s Chicago explores a determination to lay men back for all they have taken. Finally, we have Magpie by Elizabeth Day. I have already heard so many good things about this novel! It follows a couple who are trying to have a child but whose plans are disrupted by a new lodger. I’d love to know if you’ve read or want to read any of these books. Let’s have a chat in the comments and have a lovely weekend everyone! 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookheaven #bookhaul #hardbackhoarder #hardbackbooks #hardbackhaul #beautifulbooks #theislandofmissingtrees #elifshafak #triflersneednotapply #camillabruce #magpie #elizabethday #booksineedtoread #tbrfordays https://www.instagram.com/p/CUx_fZrggWD/?utm_medium=tumblr

Hey everyone it’s Wednesday! This is feeling like a super long week already and I’ve only worked two days 😅 today I’m joining in with a post that @antipodeanbookclub tagged me in #whatthisweek 👀 Watching I’m loving the new series of both Strictly Come Dancing and The Great British Bake Off. Love Autumn in the UK because of this! 📖 Reading - see photo! These are the first books I’ll be reading in October. They were chosen by Mr B for me from each of my bookshelves and I think I’m going to have a fantastic reading month because of his picks! 👂🏻 Listening - I’m listening to A Mother’s Reckoning on audiobook by Sue Klebold. Her son, Dylan was one of the shooters in the Columbine tragedy. 😁 Looking forward to - I’ve got a theatre weekend at the end of October with bestie @stevieredman We’re going to see Back To The Future and Pretty Woman and are staying over in central London. I’ve then got that following week off work so I’m going to do lots of relaxing and reading. If you haven’t done this tag and would like to, please consider yourself tagged! Also if you’re in the UK, have you got a favourite for the Strictly win already? Lastly, let me know if you’ve read any of these books or authors and what your thoughts were.
