Dramatic and thrilling from the offset, the story tells the chilling tale of a kidnapped woman who gives birth to a child on a rug in the small, windowless room she's to call home for many years, as she raises her baby boy.

The only world he knows, is, of course the one he is trapped in; with everything outside the room being beyond acceptance or any semblance of reality to him. His mother raises him to be a smart, interesting boy with whatever little means and resources she can lay her hands on.

The kidnapper supplies meagre quantities of food and vitamins for years to the mother-son duo, until one day, they plan to escape - and on the boy's fifth year, they do.

A five year old boy, with a few glitches, is able to go out into the world and rescue his mother, turning into an overnight celebrity.

And, this is only one third of the book!

The rest is about their way into the world that had been shut off for seven years for one and is an unknown, unreal territory for the other.

.

The best part of the book is that it starts where most other stories end; but it loses its allure when it ends up being a little more predictable then it ought to have been.

The character of the boy, however is lovable as he has been portrayed with warmth. The mother is relatable, complex, with an understandably suffering mental health.

.

Read this story to be moved, to be amazed, and to ponder over the intricacies and adaptability of human nature.

Так получилось, что в феврале я не просто начала знакомство с работами Эммы Донохью, а буквально окунулась в её книги и прочитала сразу две. От второй книги под названием «Чудо» я, видимо, ожидала такого же шквала эмоций, как и от «Комнаты», но не сложилось. Почему? Сейчас расскажу. • Аннотация книги такова: Ирландия середины XIX века. Внимание общественности привлечено к одиннадцатилетней девочке, которая вот уже четыре месяца обходится без еды, но чувствует себя живой и здоровой. В глухую ирландскую деревушку со всего света стекаются желающие поглазеть на чудо. Что на самом деле служит ей пищей для тела и души? Что это — чудо или кто-то манипулирует ребенком, чтобы погубить его? • Как оказалось, весь сюжет и развязка построены на религии⛪️ Книга рассказывает нам о такой религиозной семье и общине, где здравый смысл уходит далеко на задний план, а соблюдение религиозных обрядов и традиций становятся важнее жизни и здоровья ребенка. Если бы в аннотации был хоть намек на это, я бы ни за что не купила ��ту книгу. Ничего не имею против различных религий и вероисповеданий, каждый в праве верить во что хочет, но для меня на первом месте всегда останется человечность и разум и я наверное никогда не пойму тех, кто готов ради веры жертвовать жизнями людей. • Да, в книге поднимается важная тема противостояния веры и здравого смысла, но, честно говоря, у меня на протяжении всей книги было ощущение, что только главная героиня и еще один/два человека пользуются головой. Книга меня оттолкнула и сюжетом, и персонажами с их абсолютно нелогичными поступками, и преобладающей темой религии. Books I’ve Read So Far In 2018

1. Rude - Katie Hopkins

I know this won't be to everyone's taste, but I got a signed copy for Christmas so I had to pick it up straight away in 2018. She drew the devil horns on herself!

I actually thought this was a really great read - it didn't take me that long to get through at all and felt constantly engaged with Katie. I find it very hard to read autobiographies, so I loved that this was a bit of that and a bit of a self-help guide for right-wing women. Overall, would recommend!

2. Darker by E. L. James

I've got to just own up to the fact I read this. I actually bought the book for my mum for Christmas, and I was going to borrow it from her after she'd read it. But, she's not planning on it until our Spain holiday in the summer, so she passed it to me in January.

It took me less than 48 hours to read this book - and it's not small. I have a bit of a soft-spot for this series, but I can say I didn't enjoy this one as much as Fifty Shades Darker. As you will all know, this series is filth, but I think it just went a bit far in this one. It's the same story but told from Mr Grey's perspective, and I think James went a bit too far trying to get inside the male mind - it got very stereotypical of a man's every thought.

Nevertheless, if you've read any of the other books from Fifty Shades, you have to read this one. If not, don't taint yourself with this!

3. How Hard Can Love Be? by Holly Bourne 

This book was a real let down for me. I was hoping for an easy, teenage, romantic read - as the cover would suggest. But, I really did not like it.

There was a lot of 'feminist' pushing on the obviously intended young audience, and I felt there were very inaccurate representations in this sense - but others may have felt differently about this.

Also, the romantic elements in here were stupidly unbelievable. I know that comes hand-in-hand with teenage romance fiction, but it just went too unrealistic so it ruined the nostalgic element of similar books for me.  On the whole, this book is pushing 2 stars.

4. Room by Emma Donoghue

This book absolutely knocked my socks off. It's written in Jack's perspective, who is 5, so I found it a bit harder to get into as the language was harder to engage with. However, I'm so glad I stuck with it. I cried a lot with this book; the amount of emotions I felt in 321 pages is actually quite scary.

I didn't realise there was a film out for this book so I am going to get onto watching that as soon as I possibly can - it's in my Amazon basket already.

I would recommend this book to absolutely everyone; it's something you have to read at some point in your life.

5. Lucas by Kevin Brooks

This is the book that I read next. I thought I'd read it at some point when I was younger, but it wasn't certain until I read the penultimate chapter. I remember being so shocked with the ending so as soon as I read it again, I couldn't quite believe I'd forgotten.I found this to be quite an easy read, but still intellectually challenging for a young adult novel. I felt the exact same emotions as I did the first time I read this, and I think if a book can do that to you after you've actually moved away from that level of book, it must be very powerful.
