This is the "Chara" from SnapZ's swapfellAU verse. I kind of didn't care for the flowey temmie swap, so the main antagonist is The Player taking over the Chara vessel. The Human character is a doll-like vessel for The Player, and whatever happened to the real 'chara' is... a mystery. Maybe don't hack your games...

I only heard this song yesterday and loved it so much! i created this Chara concept back in early 2018 before Deltarune came out, so didn't know about the Vessel stuff, and obvs way before Fnaf VR happened, so you can understand my excitement about these things being similar to concepts I was working with here.)

The Player would go by "Joker" or "Jokester", taking inspiration from the Joker playing card. They played the game over and over and over, for five years, trying every possible ending they could, because a single character... Papyrus (SnapZ) kept having new dialogue each and every time. The timeline code became more and more corrupted each time.

Finally, with the help of another Chara, Jokester was expunged from the code, but not before they tried to reset everything again. The timeline was restored--a Human led the monsters to the surface.

but what happened to The Player? well... I don't know. I think they're still somewhere. They never went home. Or they never left their room. They used to talk about how fun this game was, that it was just like real life. How exciting.

The service was quiet. Mom was smoking outside. She said they were smiling.

Their SOUL is still in the code... but it isn't able to affect the timeline it originally could mess with. It exists between everything now. The code of every timeline, of the universe. They are there. They became a GONER. Erased, but with so much DETERMINATION, they refused to die. They clung to the FUN values, they climbed their way out of the abyss, they scream as their paint chips and their body writhes. A fusion between Vessel and Player. They look like a Puppet. A Doll.

They will try to get in to your computer. They want to climb out. They want to escape. They don't want to exist in here anymore. They want to play again.

Hi! So after rewatching the Coraline movie, I imagined about how fun it would be with the skellies having an s/o who's very adventurous, loves to explore and maybe be an investigator if they have nothing else to do and is bored so running off on their own (or with the company of the skeletons if they decide to join their s/o's escapades) to weirdly successful in wandering into mysterious / abandoned places like a forest then there's a cave that they find, ignoring warning signs as they usually do and dive into danger whenever they see it, just underestimating the consequences that might happen.

Undertale Sans - He doesn't mind as long as you keep calling him every two hours or so to say you're still alive. If you're not, he's coming to fetch you and drag you out from whatever place you're in and lecture you home about survival instincts.

Undertale Papyrus - He's uncomfortable with you breaking the law to get in places that are forbidden to people, but he doesn't want you to get into trouble and goes with you to be the voice of reason. He will try to stop you from going too far in dangerous places and straight up carry you out potato style if you're not listening to him. You're making him anxious.

Underswap Sans - Please stop doing that! You're bad at intruding places, he always has to find excuses for his boss because he's always the one on duty at the police station when it's happening and you somehow always get reported. Please improve your skills or stop doing that. He can't cover your butt eternally!

Underswap Papyrus - He's nervous every time you're going on an adventure because he's scared you might injure yourself one of these days and he wouldn't be here to help. He's always trying to dissuade you, but it's not really working. He's not encouraging your behavior though.

Underfell Sans - He's coming with you and he tries to scare the shit out of you in every dangerous place you're going so you're traumatized enough to not get there again. You're giving him anxiety. Can't you find a normal hobby? Like painting or something. Please?

Underfell Papyrus - The first few times, he came with you to ensure you didn't hurt yourself. After that, he came to make sure you hurt yourself well and learn your damn lesson about adventuring in a place you shouldn't go into. He had never seen someone with such a low survival instinct. What is wrong with you?

Horrortale Sans - He comes with you because he wants to stay by your side, but your little trips are tensing him up. He keeps growling at any weird noise and attacking random things that move because of the wind. He doesn't like it.

Horrortale Papyrus - He comes to fetch you potato style to bring you home when you disappear for more than 20 minutes without telling him what you're doing. He knows that gigantic hole is tempting but you're not going to jump in on his watch so forget about it. He traps the places he caught you into afterwards to make sure you're not going there again lol.

Swapfell Sans - He doesn't care, and he's not going to fetch you if you hurt yourself. You do you, he's sleeping at night. Don't you dare wake him up at 2 in the morning or you're not going to like his reaction. Nox is a grumpy old man when he has to wake up too early in the morning, and can get aggressive about it.

Swapfell Papyrus - Of course he's enthusiastic to go with you and of course you somehow always get into trouble together! Like that time you awaken an ancient mummy monster buried somehow under the city and it got so pissed it threatened to cook the both of you for dinner. You're the worst adventurers possible.

Fellswap Gold Sans - He has cameras in every mysterious place possible and he's sending magic electrical zaps in your body at distance if you dare to put a foot in one of them without him. He's literally training you like a dog to not do it again.

Fellswap Gold Papyrus - He likes the photos you bring him so he can have nice things to paint. He doesn't like you put yourself in danger stupidly to have the best places for him. Please stop. One of those days you're going to break your arm or your leg.

A/n ; spooooky season!!! thought really hard on what this would be about..hope it’s oki , also love coraline just rewatched it for the lost how much I’ve watched time!!

━ XIAO : The skeptical one, would literally try to debunk everything until something actually happens to him(the spirits probably targeted him) . Would only be on edge questioning everything && would be the 2nd camera man when you guys split into groups or need more angles for the video lol. He is the most serious one out of everyone who is going crazy freaking out.

━ SCARA : The one scaring the fuck out of everyone && a skeptic one. Will call everyone scaredy cats and once something touches him he secretly be a scaredy cat but the others won’t know til they stare deep into his eyes and see the shakey feeling he has. Will also go in the basement alone aka be the first person to volunteer in the haunted dark creepy basement, the basement forever changed his way of thinking about this “nasty old” house. 👻👻

━ HEIZOU : The brave one, everyone’s hero to do the challenges of being in the dark alone 🥹🥹. Took almost everything seriously but did make funny jokes to try and lighten the mood, actually did research the house you all went to ++ solved the cold mystery of this house(YouTube title will be “COLD MYSTERY HAUNTED HOUSE CASE NOW FINALLY SOLVED!!”) mainly did the questions and asks about anyone you guys talked to in there. The spirits definitely liked him for thanking him for finally putting things to rest.

━ KAZUHA : Also takes it a bit seriously when talking to the spirits of the house and helps Heizou to solve it. The comfort person who you can just hug and everything goes away type, even the negative spirits despite him for having such positive energy! Kazuha switched roles with xiao of who will hold the 2nd camera because they have the most steady hands when holding something and don’t really be scared easily, will get really good shots of everything!!

━ VENTI : Another scaring the fuck out of everyone for this dumbest things, will also scream very loudly that everyone has to shout him up to not get kicked. Can very much easily lighten the mood from the weirdest jokes that will make you all look at venti trying to process what he said to a horrible dad joke or possibly a good joke, never in between! Venti is also the sacrifice from which everyone leaves him behind when everything goes hell aka activity is everywhere and everyone runs in fear from angering the spirits.

━ AETHER : Thought it would be really cool but gets really scared of what the spirits do when hearing the history of activity they do. Learning the history of the house will send him into a shock face, jaw dropped and now regretting joining to go to the haunted house. Overall is trying his best to not be scared && helps with any gears you guys brought to the house. Is the person to slowly turn around when anyone says don’t turn around or won’t even turn his head because he thinks it’s a prank at the worst time. Probably saw a shadow figure and thought it was someone from the 5 of y’all until aether brought it up, another jaw dropping face moment!

Oh, what about the anime, I started watching it, but I didn't like it. Especially that character with the blindfold. I'm sorry. I haven't watched them in a long time, I guess the anime that influenced my drawing is probably Higurashi no Naku Koro, I mean the first issue, in the relaunch the drawing sucks, or it's just not my taste and for me the relaunch will never have the same atmosphere.

Not my favourite season but actually a really solid ending to an amazing show. Some of it was dumb but a lot of it was awesome. I loved the musical episode and the finale! Tbh it should have ended here.

Coraline Review (Warning: Potential Spoilers)

To celebrate its 15th Anniversary, I will review one of my favourite films Coraline. The film was released in 2009 by Laika as its first film and directed by Henry Selick of Nightmare Before Christmas fame (another one of my favourite films). The film was an adaptation of a book by Neil Gaiman that was released in 2002. When I first watched it, I did have the often joked-about childhood scares from some of the more disturbing imagery, definitely didn't help my fear of needles. But enjoying the effort and beauty of the film always reduces the fear to me. Being able to rewatch it in remastered 3D was glorious and something I highly recommend to any fan of the film, really helps highlight particular scenes. So let's walk through the tiny door and into the world of Coraline.

One of my favourite types of films and film effects is stop-motion animation with some favourite film studios being the aforementioned Laika alongside Aardman of Wallace & Gromit fame. The care and skill it takes at every step of production is something I could never take for granted when watching the films and behind-the-scenes features. Every detail is finely crafted to build the world of the film with features such as the Jones family portrait which reveals Coraline to share her mother's black hair. Even this detail alone has many strands behind it regarding the initial character design of Coraline, originally making her have blue streaks rather than a full blue head of hair, as well as in-film showing the disconnect between her and her parents. To me, the animation in the film is gorgeous and was a perfect medium for the story in my opinion.

One of the first things I prioritise and appreciate when engaging with media is the characters. To me, if there isn't a single character I like, it's a pass for me. Fortunately, Coraline does its characters justice in my eyes. With intriguing designs and brilliant chemistry and dynamics between them. A good example being the Amazing Bobinksy/Mr B. At first glance his blue skin seems odd considering everyone else has realistic skin tones. But the medal helps put a perspective on it. It is believed that Mr B is a survivor of Chernobyl which explains the skin along with the medal, a medal of honour. My top 3 favourites are Coraline, the Cat, and the Beldam/Other Mother. To begin with, I enjoy Coraline's spunky personality, shown through her headstrong attitude and sarcastic remarks, is something I enjoy. There is also her intellect and quick planning as seen with her final stand off with the Beldam. For the cat I am a huge cat lover since I grew up with them. The voice acting by Keith David helps bring the cat a mysterious but cocky presence. Even when he's a simple cat that doesn't speak, you can still tell his personality through his actions alongside the adherence to following cat behaviours such as slow blinks. The Beldam is one of my favourite villains of all time for how effective she is in her role. She is able to pose a genuine threat towards our hero alongside portraying a genuine threat to.the audience. Cause to me, she is an example I would use when warning others of predators and manipulators. Not all predators have to be outwardly creepy, sometimes a friendly face can be more dangerous. I also adore her design and how it gradually shifts through each visit. Each time we see her we can see her become more spider-like before her actual reveal which I enjoy as someone who loves rewatches.

When it comes to the story of Coraline, it is a simple yet effective one. The message I gain from the film is being able to appreciate what you have yet not be shamed for wanting change. Coraline starts the film with distance between her and her parents, struggling to find her place in a new place and situation. She feels she doesn't fit in. But from her journey in the film she grows to see it in a new way, ironically from the wonders the Other Mother created. By the end she starts connecting with her parents and the neighbours, realising that she could help bring the change she originally wanted at the start.

To be honest, I don't have a lot of personal critiques to the film. More just small nitpicks. When reading the book a reference is made towards a creature that lurks within the doorway between the worlds, something more malevolent and older than the Beldam. A hint towards it would have been an enjoyable nod towards book readers.

But in conclusion, I adore this film and I don't think I could ever get tired of it. The mystical soundtrack and gorgeous art style will be stuck in my head. I would always recommend Coraline as a film to watch to newbies or as a Halloween flick. Hope you guys enjoyed reading and staying positive!

The biggest tip I can give you here is: have a perfectly innocuous excuse excuse for whatever you're doing. "They're my favorite character" is probably the best one, but it can be helpful to have a few hanging around just in case you get asked. Don't attract attention if you don't want attention either: follow the rules and follow the law and do the best you can to fly under the radar. If you're a well behaved and quiet person you have a better chance at getting away with acting like your kintype.

Act more like your kintype when you're not home/around her or when she isn't home. You can shut yourself in your room or go to a park if you need to. Keep a journal or a blog somewhere so you can write about your experiences - this helps keep it more private from irls because you've got a place to talk about it where they can't see it.

Depending on your kintype, it can actually be really easy to subtly dress like them. Look up stuff like 'Disneybounding' for inspiration (even if you don't have a Disney source) on how to dress in more 'modern' versions of your kintype's clothing, or work their design elements into your outfits.

As an example, if you have a Freddy Fazbear kintype you could wear a black bow in your hair to mimic his bow tie, or button earrings or a button necklace for a Coraline kintype. Merch is a great idea too because you can just say it's of your favorite character(s). So are enamel pins to go on your bags or on your clothes.

Of course, re-engaging with the media you're from can also be helpful. Rewatching shows, replaying games, rereading books. I'd suggest fan content like fics and art but be aware that not all fans are going to portray your kintype the same way and it can be distressing to engage with fanworks that you feel don't depict you correctly. Just be cautious with it is all I'm saying.

Finding an accepting friend irl can also be really helpful - just someone who knows what's up and is cool with you the way you are. It's really really hard to find friends like that, I know, but it's extremely nice to have someone you can be yourself around without fear of judgement.

So I wanted to make a gifset about the Alice in Wonderland/Jinx parallels but at this point idk if I’ll ever finish it so I'm just gonna talk about it instead.

Obvs it starts with the color blue. It’s associated with Alice cos of the Disney version’s blue dress and since then the color stuck and has been used in other Wonderland-inspired narratives like Coraline. It’s the blue clothes and blue hair and blue eyes and a blue flair.

Then there’s the obvious issues and insanity Jinx suffers from that are the Wonderland in this scenario. Things that make no sense, like ppl only she can see (like Alice and the Cheshire cat). Those are the most obvious in her surroundings and how she interacts in them/with them.

There’s her liar, with its chaos and all the random stuff and hidden smiling faces. It and Jinx's traps are very reminiscent of the randomness of many of the Wonderland locations like the forest.

Then there’s the broken mirror which is reminiscent of the looking glass or even that one shot where Alice’s reflection in the water gets distorted as she enters Wonderland, for Jinx it’s her Mad world that she enters.

Then there’s the bunny that’s reminiscent of the white rabbit which leads Alice into Wonderland and which she’s always chasing throughout Wonderland. Which is quite fitting considering the bunny for Jinx represents her trauma and comes up in relation to it, but also represents Vi and her love and being strong which Jinx is chasing throughout the season. The whole room is also suspended in mid-air like it’s the ‘room’ through which Alice falls down the rabbit hole. On my rewatch for this meta as a refresher I even noticed these tools/animals in the forest that fit right in with Jinx’s weapons/animals.

Another noteworthy location where Jinx recreates her Mad world in reality, and brings other ppl into it, is the dinner scene. Whether ppl think it’s more of a dinner or a tea party it is very reminiscent of the Mad Hatter's tea party. The whole look is there with how it’s cluttered and every chair is different. We’ve also got the ‘off with her head’ Cait fake out here.

Then there are other elements like the mechanical butterflies that remind me of more contemporary interpretations like Alice: Madness returns.

Then there’s the obvious substance use in Alice in Wonderland and how many of the stories inspired by it tend to lean even heavier into the allusions to drugs, ‘drink me’ and the hookah and such, which immediately makes me think of Shimmer.

This idea of mind-altering/expanding drugs that ask you to drink them without telling you the consequences fits right in with Shimmer that’s treated as borderline magical substance with many different properties.

All this is to say that considering that Alice in Wonderland is about a little girl growing up and how retellings of the story frequently reimagine it to be about drugs and mental illness it’s quite fitting to use it as this strong visual inspiration for Jinx, her arc and her mad world.

The Tigger Movie

This movie, this fucking movie, because of this movie and Winnie Pooh in general I love the found family trope. That need of Tigger to find his family, all the others jumping in to help him and then trying to cheer him up, and then him realizing that his family has been there right in front of him all this time, his relationships with Roo and Rabbit mean everything to me, the acting and animation YOU COULD FEEL TIGGER'S SORROW, Tigger is my favourite character and this movie fucked me up emotionally and I love it so much.

Lilo and Stitch

OHANA MEANS FAMILY. FAMILY MEANS NOBODY GETS LEFT BEHIND OR FORGOTTEN. It has aliens, complex but loving family dynamics (with found famiy mixed into it), great fucking music (I knew all the dances) and it's beautiful. I've watched every single bit of media related to Lilo and Stitch, every movie and the tv series, and I love it all, but the first movie is so very special to me. The movie kinda grew up with me in a way, because when I was younger I related a lot with Lilo, but then I started relating so much with Nani, mostly because I'm the oldest sibling. Also Jumba and Pleakley are married I will die on this hill.

The Iron Giant

He wanted to be like Superman and he WAS he really was. I haven't seen this movie in a while now, I should rewatch it, but the friendship the kid and the robot had is something beautiful, and just all the humanity and care and love he experienced, he showed all of that way more than most of the humans from that movie. IT'S ART.

Ice Age

The first one specifically, the second one is really cool too but the others are kinda meh to me. Anyway I had this movie on vhs and I watched it so so many times, I know most of the movie by heart. And hey we have a beautiful found damily dynamic yet again!!! How Manny, Sid and Diego's friendship and companionship evolves as the movie progresses is awesome, Sid is fucking hilarious, Manny is a mood, I had a bit of a crush on Diego I'll be honest, and you really feel for all of them. And Scrat is Scrat, an absolute delight to witness.

The Spongebob movie (the first one ever created)

Just like with Ice Age, I know basically all the dialogue all the songs, I would watch this again and again with my little brother (this time on cd) it never gets old man. No thoughts only SpongeBob.

Over the Hedge

I have the soundtrack for this movie in my playlist, enough said. THIS MOVIE IS EVERYTHING, AND AGAIN FOUND FUCKING FAMILY. I'm realising with this list that I like that trope more than I thought, idk what that says about me. Hammy is my favourite guy, he's my little guy he can do no wrong whatsoever. And Stella the skunk is the character ever we love her in this house.

Shrek (the whole fucking saga)

There's no need for explanation here. Might be one of the best animated movie saga out there let's be honest here. AGAIN I have seen these movies so many times I know everything about them but I still enjoy the absolute fuck out of them.

Aardman Animations

Chicken Run, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Flushed Away, The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!...AMAZING FILMS ALL OF THEM. I know not ALL of them are stop motion/claymation, some are computer animated, but because of these movies (and Laika's of course) my love for this animation medium began, and I could not be more thankful for that.

Monster House

My love for horror increased 100% after this movie, it's funny, it's spooky, it gets sad as hell, it has a great plot twist???? What more do you need.

Laika

Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings are my favourites from Laika, but all their other movies are gems as well. Coraline, I don't know if I can completely express why I like it, it's a classic and it's so ingrained in myself after so many years, I can't not love it. Kubo and the Two Strings is a movie I watched much recently, last year I think, and I love it so much, the way it's animated is absolutely stunning it's a beautiful piece of art (much like all of Laika's work) and the story and characters are so lovely. Like I said before, seeing Laika's animations, seeing how much work and love is put into these films made me love stop motion so much and inspired me to become an animator.

Meet the Robinsons

THIS MOVIE MAKES ME SOB UNCONTROLLABLY. That part when Lewis sees his bio mom leave him at the orphanage???? The ending???? The message???? FUCK AHHHH. I'm a mess every time I watch this movie. Everything about it is, lovely oh so lovely, the characters we meet, the story, how we put the pieces of the puzzle together as the story goes, Goob kills me man (also he's literally me for real) I just, this movie means a lot to me. "Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." Reading that and hearing the ending song absolutely DESTROYS ME.

Now that I have rewatched the nightmare before Christmas, you can tell the Tim burton didn’t direct the movie. The movie style is way different from burton’s style and is similar to coraline than burtons other works. Another thing that tip me off that it wasn’t him is that there were characters of color in those two movies.

Is it just me or does 6 episodes not feel like enough for the amount of story building they were tryna do. I feel like a lot of things went unanswered and like I know thats the point of a cliff hanger and that we're getting a season two but

We barely know who this woman is that the Croat took Negan too, we met her TWICE one of the times being when Negan met her.

And yet we're supposed to be concerned and scared of her, and the hold she has on Hershel, even though she cut off his toe?? And kept it???

Like I can see her becoming like the other mother in Coraline and playing a part of a doting woman who cares solely for Hershel, and how that would make Hershel kinda stockholmed into liking her etc. But you can't start that by cutting off his toe. Actually cutting off his toe at any part during the process would kinda fuck it up, would it not???

Speaking of Hershel, he's so angsty, and I love it to an extent but like where's the background for it? Where's the reasoning why he feels so cut off from his mom to borderline hate her for everything she does, including saving him?? Why does he feel the way he does. He's got about as much development as RJ in the main series and just is coming across as a whiny teen to me, I might be reading his character wrong but it's my opinion atm

And then you got new Babylon, and we have literally no explanation about them, barely even spoken exposition being like "oh yes new Babylon the people who are trying to bring back the old world and it's rules and are succeeding" like there's just barely that. That's all we know about them.

It doesn't help that pretty much the whole of episode 5 was just them walking through the sewers and not really doing much else, and that was mostly just to kill off Tommaso and Amaia, and to see the walked king. It was an hour long EP that got like a good 25 minutes of anything done besides walking.

So they basically wasted it.

And like don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the series, this isn't me saying I hated it or anything. Im just... Underwhelmed? Like it's been so hyped up as something newer than the main series, in a city that nobodies explored, that they made to be an epicenter for the whole thing. And its just kinda the same plots as the main series done a little bit differently by giving the viewer less knowledge of what's going on.

Like we kept getting that flashback to when the croat took Hershel, and he's screaming for Maggie and Maggie is screaming for him, and I thought they'd give us more, show us the conversation they had or something along those lines. But the extension of the scenes is just a wider angled shot of Maggie looking upset. It's underwhelming

And maybe that's on me for expecting more from AMC than what they've given us, and maybe I need to rewatch it to pick up on the things I might've missed the first time around. But like, overall, I'm underwhelmed and wished they used the 6 episodes more to their advantage or greenlit them for some more episodes in the season.

Cause like season one of the main series, that was 6 episodes, and every single episode was stuffed full of story telling and character building and exposition. It threw you into the world from minute one. Dead city is kinda just relying on you knowing the characters and their backstory and using that without expanding any further even though we have no idea who the Croat and his people are, who the marshals of new Babylon are, no clue who Hershel has grown into, or what happened in the time jump with Negan and Annie and their son.

This is really long, so anybody that's read it thanks lol, it's all kinda just word vomit so I hope it made sense.

Here's one of my favorite Gene lines I've ever written, which is from my "Linda is deaf" AU (is it weird to laugh at something you came up with and wrote??):

He massaged his temples, hoping to soothe away the pounding ache that was beginning to form. “Sorry, kids, but we need to stay here. We might get a customer. I can make you all something, and it might even taste better.”

“They have garlic breadsticks, father!” Gene punctuated his words by thumping the table with his palm. 

Plus here's some Gene angst from my Gene gets an eating disorder fic (he's such a baby, I felt so bad writing this, but it was still an interesting foray into his character. Plus, it involves Bob and Gene's relationship so that's always fun to write):

To his surprise, it was Bob. His father cradled a tray with a still steaming cheeseburger on it, and Gene would be lying if he said his mouth didn’t water at the sight. He craved the feeling of the warm meat between his teeth paired with the melting, delectable cheese. 

Bob set the tray on Gene’s bedside table. “I, uh, noticed you didn’t touch your dinner, so I made you something. It’s the Burger of the Day, the Gouddam Hussein Burger.”

He turned to leave when he paused at the doorway, as if he were contemplating his next words, “Are you all right, Gene? You know you can tell us anything.”

Maybe… maybe I could talk about how I’m feeling. Maybe I could admit everything. 

He plastered his best fake smile on his face. “I’m okay. Thanks for the burger.”

Finally, I was planning on sharing this later, but for Halloween, I made a new piece of Gene as Wybie Lovat from Coraline (because I just read the book and rewatched the movie recently). I tried to make the cat as adorable as possible, because why not? I'm not as good at drawing animals as I am at drawing people, but I tried ;-;

For some reason, being Wybie really suits Gene. Maybe it's because I think he would also like cats and both of their characters are controversial? Gene does claim to have hidden one under his bed for a long time:

Season 1 episode 2 out of the past

Mick being angry

1970s!Mick “ I know who did this” 1970s!police officer “care to share with the rest of us?” Mick says nothing and walks away all broody like, gets me every time

Josef trying to be the voice of reason telling Mick to kill lee jay which would probably be a smart move but given how media attention the dude is getting would not be the wisest thing to do in the end but Mick ignoring him, shows how much Mick is trying to cling to his humanity and be as human as he can be. He doesn’t want to be the vampire people depict in movies

 though Josef and Mick both end up being right in the end. Lee jay does go all Van Hesling on Mick but Irene gets justice in the end when the truth about lee jay comes out

While I am a MickBeth shipper, Josh is very sweet and a nice guy. He does genuinely care about Beth and isn’t all that upset when Beth is saying Micks name in her sleep

Beth and her colleagues joking around with each other is cute and makes it believable that they actually people. Especially since it’s not anything mean spirited

I wonder if the gift of a 25 year old single malt was a deliberate attempt at getting information from Mick since the crime happened 25 years ago.

I still hate lee jay

Mick visiting his old cop buddy got me excited when I originally watched the show, I was like wow he has he has human friends who know the truth about him and then it turns out that the guy is blind and then it’s like oh 🙁

Mick is a nerd confirmed, one of the great things about technology he lists off is world of Warcraft and he is the most excited about that one. I’m head cannoning that he and Logan met via World of Warcraft and nothing can change my mind

Mick giving Beth evidence about Lee Jay at the dudes book release is not the smartest move

I still hate Lee Jay, the actor does a good job at being a smug asshole

Beth calling Mick out on what she thought was his problematic behavior and him desperately wanting her to believe him about Lee Jay not just because he doesn’t want her to look at him like he’s a monster but because Lee Jay is a massive piece of shit and doesn’t want him to hurt other women.

Beth uncovering Mick’s lies and getting worried about her new friendship

Micks house gets broken into a lot, this is the first of many episodes where being just make themselves at home.

Josef’s sass strikes again “you made the news” and Mick’s “great”

I wonder why the cleaners didn’t pay Mick a visit, granted it could have been that it just looked like human on human crimes so they’re like it’s not really a problem yet and until it was becoming clear Mick was endangering vampires then he’d get himself a visit. Because cleaners are a thing at this point, they show up in the very next episode. So it’s not like it’s something that was thought up later on in the series.

Josef “you’re not worried about what some blonde reporter thinks?” It’s a little bit about that but I do think Mick mainly wants to right a wrong and give Irene some justice instead of people believing she killed herself.

Mick wants to tell Beth the truth so bad, he really doesn’t want to lie to her but the truth is so crazy that he doesn’t want to scare her. I think if Josh wasn’t at Beth’s apartment then Mick would’ve blurted out “because I’m a vampire” and probably would’ve told her everything.

Lee Jay continues to be a massive piece of shit and his friends who helped him kidnap Julia, Beth’s reporter friend are also pieces of shit.

Josh is still a nice and supportive boyfriend

Beth is a little too nonchalant about Mick tagging her friends car with a GPS tracking device.

Also Mick’s little flip phone like I know this is the mid-2000s but come on they had other more advanced phones like come on old man get with the 21st century

I wonder if Mick is immune to fire since Coraline and her brother Lance are immune to fire or if fire immunity is a side affect from the cure

Beth coming in to save the day

Also more scenes from the unaired pilot episode can be seen towards the end of the episode

Where did Mick get his blood bags from and why didn’t his friends help him home

Mick really should’ve shut his door but Beth probably would’ve just barged in anyway

Moonlight’s music choice is amazing, I think every episode had good music

I give this episode 8 of 10 wooden stakes, I like the story for the episode it raises the stakes (pun intended) for Mick and that they didn’t dance around and drag out Mick was a vampire for multiple episodes and have Beth find out in the middle or end of the season.

Again some things were a bit choppy nothing bad, all brand new shows have a episodes that are like but once Moonlight gets the ball rolling it gets good.

Another sgrb fanfic idea.

It’s a fact that Shiny has been gone for 10 years. Which means 10 years of human history he doesn’t know and a lot could happen in 10 years. Thunder happened in those 10 years, what else did he miss?

So either, Shiny asks about it or Alex realizes the other gap in Shiny’s memory. Either way, something has to be done about it.

(I know Shiny has access to the internet or something, but that was already glitchy from the beginning. I doubt it works any better after so long.)

Because of that, Alex decides to build a giant TV that has access to the everything except for things Shiny should NEVER see. (He maybe a giant monster fighting robot, but we all know Shiny is a child mentality.) Obviously Creed doesn’t like the idea of wasting resources on it, but Alex points out that if Shiny stays uneducated on what he missed, it could come back to bite them on the butt later. And no one really wanted to tell the hyperactive older robot brother what he missed while he was in space.

In the end, the giant TV was built. (And when I say giant, that is from the point of view for the humans. To the robots, it was slightly bigger than their hand.)

For the next few days Shiny was glued to it, which was a pleasant surprise for Thunder because it got Shiny off his back for a while. But as time went on, Thunder got curious on what Shiny was doing with it (the TV is in a different part of the base, you’ll see why in a bit). Because whenever he’s done using it, he either has a slightly bigger smile on his face or is giggling a bit, but never goes into why or what he just learned. He usually just says, “I just learned something really…interesting is all.” And just drops the conversation.

After a week of that, Thunder’s curiosity got the better of him and he decided to check out what his older brother was doing.

Aaaannnnnd, it turns out, that Shiny was just using it to watch cartoons and movies from the last 10 years.

Of course Thunder was annoyed by it because Shiny wasn’t doing what he was meant to do and the TV wasn’t meant to be used like that (even though anywhere else it is). And he continues to go on and on about it, but as he does, he gets slowly sucked in by whatever Shiny is watching until he shuts up completely and continues to watch it with Shiny.

And so, after that day, Thunder joins Shiny with his ‘education section’ so Shiny doesn’t learn any false facts is their lie.

They try to take turn with what to watch, but a lot of times it ends with them fighting over it.

All in all, it’s just brothers watching TV together.

As for what they watch (or what I think they would watch),

Shiny likes anything with heroes, romance, and action. Also Shiny seems like the type of person who would rewatch something just so he can copy the moves and saying lines he thinks is awesome with the actor, which annoys Thunder to no end.

While Thunder like science fiction stuff, he gives off the feeling he doesn’t because as he watches it all the does is complain about what’s scientifically wrong about it. But the second you try to change it to something else, yells for you to put it back on.

Bonus: Whenever they finish watching something, they quote it for the rest of the week. Which leaves a lot of people confused because it feels like it’s a inside joke to them. Especially when Thunder does it and Shiny looks like he’s about die from laughter.

Bonus 2: They watch a horror movie. They do this because either A. They didn’t read the rating/didn’t know it was a horror movie, B. Thought they could handle it because they fight Kaijus for a living, nothing could scare them, or C. It was one of those movies were it says it’s for kids but it’s way too much messed up for kids to watch like the movie Coraline. Afterwards they’ll either be, both scared out of their minds but pretending not to be even though the other knows or one them being scared and the other one is fine.

Tips from a Creative Writing grad student: Concrit on Fanworks.

So you want to leave critical feedback on that fanwork? You're under the impression that because it is posted for free on the Internet, that gives you the right to throw your opinion out there?

Alright, say I buy that. Say we look at Archive of our Own as a big ol' open workshop. Something writers use, by the way, as they're writing/editing their manuscript (the workshop not AO3 lol). For fan authors, this usually comes in the form of the fierce, powerful beta.

Here's some tips on how to give constructive criticism from someone who is literally a term away from having their Master of Fine Arts in creative writing.

First: authors who are wanting/needing feedback will seek it out, usually by participating in workshops or enlisting others to read and give said feedback.

None of which happens in already posted fanfic world unless the author otherwise specifies in their notes. But like I said, let's pretend it's a big open workshop and it is your job to help your fellow writer improve.

So now it's time to leave that feedback! So, in every single one of my classes in which we had to provide and receive feedback on original flash fiction, or pieces of our thesis, the number one rule? Be kind!

Yes, you are absolutely allowed to voice your opinions on parts that rubbed you wrong! But there are ways to frame it without insulting the author or the work. And if you have an issue with a line, or a scene, or a character, what that criticism MUST be accompanied by is constructive actionable feedback.

That means, if you're going to tell the author what is wrong with their work, you must absolutely recommend ways to fix it. You don't get to just say, "this doesn't make sense." Nope. You have to delve deeper, why is it confusing? And what could the writer do to clarify things? A little more descriptive narrative? Changing the dialogue? What?

If it bothers you enough to voice it, then clearly you know a better way to convey it and must share that information, otherwise you're literally just filing a formal complaint.

Most concritters would get an F in my classes.

Next: for every negative comment, there must be a positive one. "I didn't like X, but I loved Y." Most of the time, the unwelcome concritters will claim to have liked the work, but rarely do you see any commentary on the bits they did like.

Anyway, my personal rule of thumb is the Oreo method, two compliments for every critique.

At the end of the day though, if the author isn't asking for said constructive criticism, it is not your job to provide it. Trust me when I say, every piece of fiction goes through some sort of workshopping process, whether asking a friend/partner/family member to look it over, or dutiful betas. The fact of the matter is, through the writing and editing process, everything is looked at under a microscope and do things get missed? Absolutely! But by the time the piece is published, or in this case, posted to AO3, it is done. Finished.

Now any commentary given is either a good or a bad review. So if you have nothing nice to say about that fanfiction you just read, you aren't providing concrit or feedback, you're leaving a bad review.

Because the thing is, the story is finished. You aren't capable of providing constructive feedback because it's no longer in the editing or writing phase. It is done. I mean, Neil Gaiman isn't rewriting Coraline because someone who read the published book had issue with buttons for eyes: "How do you see?!! Explain the biology here!"

And that fanfiction author you accosted is not going to rewrite what they just put love, sweat, and free time into.

But just for fun, let's give you an idea of how much time writing and posting fanfiction can take:

I wrote a 1900 word short fix it fic for OFMD the other day. Less than 2k, and you know how long it took me? Writing it took 3 hours, editing it took an additional 30 minutes, double checking lines by rewatching certain scenes took another 30 or so minutes, and then setting it up to post on AO3 and share on SM took another 40 or so minutes. Almost 5 hours for a less than 2k fic. Imagine how much longer it takes for a fic that is 40k? 60k? 100k+??

So, what's my advice, if you're just dying to leave concrit on someone's fanwork?

Don't. Got nothing nice to say? Then move along. Your commentary doesn't make an author better, writing does. And we are much less inclined to write if all we get is negativity and "constructive" criticism.
