For the reading list, Sophie Lewis! She has a good piece (nsfw) where she calls out the "isn't it unfortunate to be attracted to men" stuff as transphobic.

I also liked her book Full Surrogacy Now, which isn't about trans men but I think is a good read for anyone who was into gender abolition as a broad idea but then got stuck on the fact that it's full of terf/radfem shit. FSN explores how reproduction could be made into a community practise rather than being controlled by the cishet nuclear family structure, and argues that the nuclear family is the place that gender enforcement first occurs (so getting rid of it is useful to ending gender enforcement).

👋I was wondering if you'd heard about the book On Repentance and Repair by Rabbi Danya Rutenburg? I read it last year and liked it a lot, and your post about how some things are unforgivable reminded me of it. It's based on Jewish cultural approaches to harm, and one of the key parts of it is that the person who was harmed never has to forgive the person who harmed them. If the perpetrator has accepted what they did wrong, made a sincere effort to change, and made reparations, then the person who was hurt will be asked to forgive them, but they never actually have to. Wanted to recommend it if you hadn't heard of it!

I think I actually saw a post about this book before, I remember a Jewish blogger explaining it too. Definitely seems up my alley. Thank you for reminding me.

both?? I love horror, but I hate jump scares (cheap tactic) I need the kind of horror that keeps me awake at night and changes my fundamental views on reality. ah, I have so many and I cycle between them by the week: drawing, writing, gaming, game dev, rock climbing, playing TTRPGs (as both a player and recently, a GM), 3D printing, and the newest one - learning bass! oof on being pushed out of trauma recovery: would be nice for people to admit that having men available as therapists is important! And that women aren't necessarily ~naturally better therapists~ because ~the female experience~ has taught them to care or whatever. In good news and mundane wins for liberal democracy, today the govt added sunblock SPF ratings to the Fair Trading Act, so manufacturers whose products don't meet their claims can be fined up to $600K! (compliance used to be voluntary and Consumer NZ finds about 3 brands a year that don't measure up, so this is cool)

On one hand, big ol' yikes that this wasn't a legal requirement already, on the other hand, yay that it's been rectified!!

Hopefully this will result in less people getting extra badly burnt due to misleading SPF claims combined with poor directions for use around how often different sunblocks should be applied, because there seems to be at least one brand every summer that has to recall for that exact reason.

Hey! I'm from NZ, and I was wondering if you would reconsider your "Māori Nation" tag? It isn't terminology I've heard used here at all -- just "Māori" would be fine, I think, though you could also consult with Māori folks on another term (I'm pākehā but I try and keep an eye out). Apologies if you've been asked to use that term by Māori people! It jumped out to me as odd so I thought I should check.

Hello, thank you so much for sending in this ask. For clarification when we use the tag of Māori Nation it means we mention/are talking about the culture that existed in that area pre-colonialism. This is a practice that I have learned mostly from my work with Indigenous activists in Canada and the United States, so I would definitely be open to hearing alternative opinions/options from Māori people.
