Jonny's the self-proclaimed captain of the starship Aurora (though everyone else calls him the first mate), and one of the lead singers in The Mechanisms, a spacefaring cabaret of immortal pirates with lovely voices and extremely gray morals. He hails from New Texas, he's got a heart made of metal, and he likes to play the harmonica and shoot things.

so far, s2 has only made me more of a blackbeard apologist. i think he deserves to kill and maim people with wild abandon and terrorise his entire crew just because he had a bad break-up with a guy he never even dated. i think he should kill more people, actually. he looks good doing it.

William Laurence is a captain in the British Royal Navy in the Napoleonic Wars until he accidentally bonds with a dragon hatchling found on a captured French vessel, whereupon he is dragged into joining the Royal Aerial Corps instead.

Temeraire (the dragon) is a staunch dragon rights advocate and Laurence is his biggest supporter.
