Jon and Martin's starship is like the Aurora in the fact that they both have a personality and consciousness. So she deserves a name too.

Their stolen octokitten is named the Captain. And Jon makes the joke of going to her for any orders.

Heyyyy im not deaaad- my doctor just found it a great idea to go, despite my partners advice and warning of "hey he'll feel miserable off them" to go "your blood pressure on these meds is too low. Stop taking them and see me in a week"

So now im sitting here. With fucking fever, meds-withdrawal symptoms, headache and aaaaall my symptoms from before are back.

Heavy dizzy spells. Heart reate going all over the place fastness wise. I barely have energy to even go to the kitchen and just- did you ever think a bush looked comfy to sleep in?? No?? I DID YESTERDAY.

Meaning- if i continue the game at this moment, you'll get a fever dream that barely works- so until i am a functional human again that can actually stand, im gonna be afk!

....most of my symptoms, do HEAVILY align with POTS....so that's... fun. Heart speed shouldn't be FAST when just laying, right? Or when getting up spike faster, right? Yea. All around fucked.

mini guide to the mechanisms for my non mechs followers who have zero clue what im saying when i talk about them

jonny d'ville;

role: captain first mate mechanism: heart last death: stabbed straight through the heart during a bar fight backstory: born and raised on a planet called new texas, took hitman jobs from one eyed jack to pay off his father's debt . in one of the jobs, he killed his dad . after he got mechanized, he went back to new texas and burnt down the casino one eyed jack ran.

gunpowder tim;

role: master at arms mechanism: eyes last death: crashed into a space station with a gunship backstory: him and his best friend bertie joined the starborne infantry to fight in the war against the moon kaiser . bertie died during the war, sending tim into a crazy rage, absolutely destroying kaiser's forces, eventually getting caught and taken away for execution, he managed to distract the guards and set off a canon, blowing up the moon. he survived by hiding in an escape pod, but couldnt get the visor closed in time, therefore losing his eyes.

drumbot brian;

role: pilot mechanism: everything except his heart last death: threw himself back into space backstory: landed one day on a random planet with no memory, the townsfolk were convinced he was a witch and threw him into space , everything except his heart completely froze .

ashes o'reilly;

role: quartermaster mechanism: lungs last death: dropped a match into gasoline on an un-named planet , setting it on fire as the final light in the universe . backstory: recruited into a gang at the age of 11, 12 years later, was framed as a double agent and trapped in a burning building. got mechanized, went back to the planet and burnt the whole thing down.

role: science officer mechanism: wings last death: took a piece of the broken aurora, and flew into a black hole with it, as one last experiment. backstory: N/A

role: archivist mechanism: brain last death: got trapped inside a library planet that caught on fire in a war . backstory: she was born and raised around books, she died (unexplained why) and had her brain mechanized. she cant remember her past , it comes back to her in dreams that she doesnt remember when she wakes .

role: ship's doctor mechanism: right arm last death: eaten by octokittens after checking on them . backstory: he's from a planet with what used to be very powerful weapons, that slowly degraded from years of war . him and an un-named person tried to stop the war, but failed .

nastya rasputina;

role: ship's engineer mechanism: (quicksilver) blood last death(?): she ejected herself out into space before the bifrost incident, because the aurora 'wasnt the same ship anymore, being replaced piece by piece until she was a different person.' backstory: she was raised on a technologically advanced planet, and killed during a revolution, then being mechanized.

the toy soldier;

role: N/A, does almost anything it's told to as long as the directions are clear (autism) mechanism: everything but its voice last death: after all the other mechanisms died, it simply stopped pretending. backstory: The Toy Soldier originally lived with a widow who collected clockwork figures. She treated the Toy Soldier like it was her husband and tried to teach it to act like him. she died, and the Toy Soldier was donated to a museum. one day, it just decided to leave, wandering out into the street and ending up joining the Salvation Army.it met person who it ended up falling in love with. but they were in love with someone else, and the Toy Soldier killed them and took their voice. It was then found by an antiques dealer, and ended up being bought by the Mechanisms to replace Jonny for a show while he was in prison . then it just stuck around .

Nastya Rasputina propaganda:

She was the princess of Cyberia, which is like Revolution-era Russia but IN SPACE and with a lot more cyberpunk flavor. Specifically, she's Space Anastasia Romanov. Space Lenin shot her, so she shot him and accepted an offer from Dr. Carmilla (lesbian space vampire) to become immortal by receiving mercury blood apparently infused with eldritch magic. Later she went back to Cyberia and blew up the planet.

The short story "Breakup" on the website is about Nastya and Aurora (The Mechanisms' spaceship, who is a) sapient and b) formerly a moon, c) a Cyberian battlecruiser, and d) fleshy, somehow) having a massive fight, which prompts this observation:

"'Anastasia and the vessel Aurora coexist. She registers machine-self relations as an unaltered human would register human-self relation.'”

'So what you’re saying is that they’re lovers,' said Ashes. Their face softened as they looked at Nastya, sitting in a corner of the bridge, curled up and staring hopelessly out of the window. “And they fell out.'”

Then Ashes advises the others to just wait for them to work it out, and "Nastya vanished sometime when no one was looking. The others just kept up the Mahjongg and tried to ignore the sounds from engineering. The bowels of the ship began to whir, and then whine. At one point all the speakers burst on in unison and Nastya’s gasps echoed round the bridge. Jonny flung down his chips in disgust."

She fucks the ship. Hell yeah.

This story also confirms that Nastya has "queer orgies" somewhat regularly.

When Aurora gets upset about Briar Rose, a clone who was forced to power a weapons system, Nastya has Brian divert course to go rescue her and then tells Jonny (the ostensible captain) that they're going to go pick up Briar Rose. As pointed out by @aralana765, Nastya played Jonny like a fiddle to get him to agree to springing her fellow space lesbian--https://aralana765.tumblr.com/post/698463081306701824/listening-to-ouatis-again-and-once-again-i-am.

She feeds the octokittens.

She's a violist, which are highly underappreciated.

Finally, there's the short story "Out," where Jonny catches Nastya about to go out of the airlock with a piece of Aurora's hull, never to return. He can't believe any of the Mechs would leave permanently, least of all Nastya: "Nastya, who had fallen in love with the Aurora the moment she had woken up aboard it with mercury flowing through her veins. Nastya, who had only left the Aurora for any extended period of time once in Jonny’s memory – and then to lay to rest some ghosts so she’d never have to leave again. Nastya, who cared for the Aurora better than she cared for herself or anything else in this god-forsaken universe." Nastya leaves because she believes Aurora has been Ship of Theseus-ed, so she's takes the last original piece of "her" Aurora, push it into a star to cremate her lover, and make her exit into the void of space.

In conclusion: I love her, your honor.

Aboout the Somewhere Else (I Space) AU:

I saw someone suggest that the octokitten should be named Admiral 2 (despite it being the name of the ship). But have you considered: the octokitten's name is actually Admiral 3

That would be too many Admirals for one ship and would leave the ship without a Captain, so no I haven't considered an Admiral 3.
