weirdly cheesy dialouge and combat scenes aside i do like the line asagiri is drawing between chuuya and dazai in this novel, w their dead friends (heavily associated w bar settings) setting chuuya to dedicate himself to the mafia, where dazai ran away. (also something here w odas last words asking dazai to leave vs albatross saying chuuya can use his bike for work )

WAAH okay I just finished the first ep of season 4 for bsd and I just OTL
I remembered something from the light novel that season 4 is opening with (book 3, The Untold Origins of the Detective Agency), so don't peek if you don't want to be spoiled for those who either haven't read and want to, or want to wait for the anime to release more episodes
BUT MAN I'm so sad remembering this, but seeing it happen and reading is just???? It hits different but in a good way (or as good as angst can get lmao)
but just seeing 14 yr old Ranpo versus 26 yr old Ranpo and realizing that he really hasn't changed-
He knew, when he was 14, that people didn't see what he saw and understood that his 'ability' was something that was unique to him due to his upbringing and parents (both brilliant people--his father specifically being an incredibly well-known detective- so really, it makes you wonder if this influenced his bragging but that's something for another time), but kept himself under the guise that people understood because...
If adults can't see what he can see, then how are they supposed to help him out when he's still a child? A child can't do everything themselves, so the idea that no one would be able to help him just makes his parent's death that much worse
And despite Fukuzawa not really knowing this straight out, it's interesting to see how he handles it
Not sure how to comfort a child whose essentially jaded with a lack of trust towards others and a continually decreasing will because he just keeps on getting beaten down? Oh easy, just tell him that the thing that's been giving him indirect woe is a skill. He only is being affected by his own brilliance because it's something that can't be helped. Give him a reason to be proud of it instead!
Uh but I'm getting carried away.
Anyway-- then we see 26 yr old Ranpo now who, really, has known the entire time that his 'skill' isn't a skill, but instead accepted Fukuzawa's attempt at comfort those 12 years ago because now it's more the idea that...if it isn't a skill, then what is he useful for? Within a group of people so talented--not just due to their individual skill, but their combat abilities and all that--why is he so special that he is a part of them? And why would he be so deserving of everyone's praise if he's just...normal?
Long story short, I just mainly remembered Ranpo's deep insecurity that's rooted in his view of his own competence and the effect of the loss of his parents at an early age and I just wanna grab his cheeks and stretch
ALSO ALSO in season 4's first ep when he's trying to nab a bite of the actress' sweets and she eats it instead that was soiefhoih what a brat

I'm binge reading Jigokuraku, and something about the way Gabimaru acts especially at the beginning of the story reminds me of Dazai.
Obviously, they're different characters in the end. Still, I can't help but wonder if Dazai could've been a little more like Gabimaru, invested in his living for some one or another purpose if he met someone else (unlike Odasaku) who he was interested in. Someone that genuinely believed in the goodness of other people the same way Yui does. Dazai would first have to be convinced of the weight of his own life, too, but. I think it could be possible, and whoever comes out could still be Dazai.

🍙 anon back with another request!~
Can I order a Dr.stone headcanon where they depetrify the younger twin (by a damn second) of their s/o and is just like “until I die you’re not allowed near them, nuh uh.” This would be even better if all of the men are wrapped around their s/o’s finger
I hope that it wasn’t hard to understand once again, I wish you a great time and that you take care of yourself!
Thank you very much if you do this request<3
I love this request! Thank you so much!
Characters, in order: Ryusui, Gen, Senku, Ukyo, Chrome. (The five wise generals :)) Bonus: Hyoga.
Yall might notice I play up Chrome’s beef with Ryusui. It’s funny to me. I know the don’t hate each other 😭
Context for All:
S/O and character met and started dating after the petrification.
S/O’s (barely) younger twin only gets woken up after some months or so.
Ryusui Nanami:
You and Ryusui both go to wake up your twin from the stone together.
Once your twin breaks free of the stone, they are looking, confused, at you and Ryusui joined hands.
They spit out some kind of “who are you?” At him. And he gives them a cheery, enthusiastic answer, calling himself your dedicated boyfriend.
Your twin doesn’t like him. (Chrome is cheering somewhere in the background)
They tell him to watch himself. And that’s when he’s confused.
What did he do?
Then they pull you away often, finding excuses. Eventually, out right telling him to stay away from you, but not in front of your face.
This is like putting him in a straight jacket for a week. He’s attached to you most the time like a magnet, but now your twin is repelling him out.
He tries to win them over too. Gifts. Words. Whatever.
He’d explain himself by loudly exclaiming how much he loves you.
This is worsening it.
I think your twin would come around when they’re around him for a while and notice just how much he does for you. It’s not just things he HAS done for you, he does things too.
Like when they watch you get hurt, only slightly, not bad enough to warrant being carried, but he carried you an hour walk back to the village anyways.
They won’t tell him, but they approve now.
Gen Asagiri:
Another one I can totally see a sibling disliking at first.
When you wake up your twin and bring them back to the village, Gen is waiting for you. He greets them too.
And your twin tells you his smile looks creepy, quietly, but he heard it, and being who he is, he smiles more sinister and says some comment.
Mistake. Your twin doesn’t like him.
Now he spends all his time trying to use his mentalist tricks to get your twin to like him, but they’re really good at dodging all that shit and glaring at him.
Knowing he’s a huge liar, your twin asks you how you can trust him. How do you know he’s not sleeping around.
They heard him joke about harem, and when you all went to treasure island, you weren’t with them, but he joked about wanting a hug from Amaryllis.
Your twin reports this back to you, and you inform them that you can’t take his words at any sort of face value.
He wants people’s reactions.
It would take a lot, watching genuine interactions, for your twin to warm up to you being with the world’s “greatest liar.”
Overall, they’d just have to learn to understand he’s hard to understand.
So for a while, they don’t get that. They are annoyed by his antics. So they secretly throw out some vague threat one night, and then your bf is suddenly not coming around.
This makes you upset, but eventually you notice he looks ever so slightly scared of your twin. And you put two and two together.
I think like how people come to trust Gen eventually once they see through him (as much as you can see through Gen, he’s a tough one) your twin would eventually just notice he means well.
Then they’re just watching closely from a distance.
He’s terrified.
Senku Ishigami:
Your twin is so justified. Lets just start there. This one isn’t even a full on misunderstanding. This would be Senku acted like a bitch, because he’s just too forward to give a fuck, and now they think he’s a bitch.
Not to mention, he’s not exactly intimidated. Just annoyed when your twin wakes up from the stone and immediately goes to telling him to stay away.
You didn’t warn him about this.
Everybody seems to like Senku though, they begin to realize.
They spend a while figuring out why.
And for a while, even with that information. They keep him far away from you because they don’t think he treats you right.
He has an ex wife? He divorced her? He talks to her like that didn’t happen?
Yeah, he better keep his ass 10 kilometers away at all times.
Then eventually they notice how he does his best for you. He’s a busy man. He’s got a lot on his plate. Once they recognize this, they begin to warm up to him.
He makes things to make your life easier, and when nobody is looking, except your twin, secretly, he’s affectionate (as much as Senku can be)
They let him off the hook.
Ukyo Saionji:
It wouldn’t happen.
But let’s say for SOME reason, they dislike him. Just because they don’t want you to get hurt. They have trust issues with that kind of thing. Maybe you’ve been with some men, or anybody really, they’ve watched you cry over before.
They think nobody deserves you.
Not even Ukyo. Bless his heart.
They threaten the poor man.
He’s not scared to go around you, but they refuse to include him in anything. Actively trying to shun him.
Honestly, in this scenario, you’d have to stand up for him a bit because he did nothing to warrant this.
Eventually, with some discussion with you, and maybe some heartfelt conversation Ukyo had with them about you, they’d come around.
He’s got a good record, and he just doesn’t want to see anybody get hurt?
Yeah, they’ll come around.
Chrome:
You were so excited to introduce your twin to your new boyfriend. Because how could anybody dislike Chrome?
Your twin does. Your twin dislikes him.
Let’s just say he’s annoyed, and hurt. And he literally thinks about you 24/7 so how is he supposed to just stay away from you???
How can they do this to him?
This is psychological torture.
Suika tries to help him. 100%.
Your twin thinks Suika is adorable, but he sent a kid instead of talking to them???
They’re on your twin’s “shit list.” He’s the only one on the list right now.
He tries to show off now hoping that your twin will think he’s cool and let him back near you.
If this was the modern era, he would have stood outside your window with a boombox. Or talked to you Romeo and Juliet style, with the boombox ready. But he doesn’t have a boombox. Or any skill to play a musical instrument. He doesn’t even know what that is.
He starts shouting things loud enough so that you can hear them, but without getting anywhere near you.
Your twin notices his persistence, and the way he looks at you, and eventually lets up.
Hyoga Akatsuki:
Your twin immediately heard about what he did.
He’s banned from your eyesight, the ground you walk on, the air you breathe.
They threaten him, and he smiles. They’re pissed, because how can he care so little?
Your twin has GUTS for doing anything about this man.
He keeps his distance at first, honestly just not thinking it’s worth it.
But admittedly, he’s more attached to you than he says he is.
They start to notice him sneaking around at night, when he thinks they’re not looking, just to see you.
Though they think about going off on him, they don’t. They just watch from a distance, ready to attack him if they need to. They’re not afraid of him. (They probably should be but they fear NOTHING)
They notice he doesn’t do anything. Often times he’ll just sit there, and the two of you exchange a few words. Clearly just happy to be together.
And they realize he’s got a soft spot for you.
He’s a cold man, usually his exchanges have malicious intent, but your twin is smart enough to notice that he doesn’t have any malicious intent here.
He gains nothing from these actions. Well he does, but not an upper hand. Just a warm feeling.
Likely they’ll just walk by the two of you and wave, continuing walking, and that’s how they’ll let him know he’s off the hook.
They keep an eye out though, for him in general. Because even if it’s clear he’s smitten with you, he’s still a concerning man.

My thoughts on Bsd chapter 117
Spoilers below
I knew it!
Well not really but I knew Bram being here had something to do with Akutugawa. That's his godamn coat.
... Wait nooo.. Nooo! Fuck you don't make me watch Bram die again.
Aya trying to mean to lessen the blow. Bram feeling like he failed her. The flashbacks to his daughter...
"One day I'll carry you on my back"
Devastating how dare you.
Honestly considering how seriously Akutugawa keeps his promises, this seems like a good idea.
Ayyy Kunikida!
I do love how we're leaning into making Fukuchi some eldritch horror. Because fundamentally he should not exist.
Because it goes against everything. He is not of this world, of course his very existence fills you with dread.
I didn't think one look would take out Junichiro tho.
Kunikida filled with absolute terror and still having the strength to say what are you, fuck he's so cool.
Oh... Fukuchi can talk. Kinda ruins the vibe a little tbh but okay that's a choice.
"I am all. I am none." I am justice. I am the night. I am Batman.
I agree Kunikida what is going on at this airport? Everyone in Bsd talks about shit going on in the Train station but that is nothing compared to whatever this is.
Public transport man don't use it in this universe. Or any transport to be honest.
I love that Fyodor's just standing here not saying a word like okay fine you can have this one.
Ohhh ohh why did he sneak up on him ahhh nooo. Also you can't see one of Kunikida's hands and I am concerned.
Oh yeah this is the first time anyone in the Agency but Atsushi and Fukuzawa have dealt with Amenogozen.
Someone really should've told the others this fucker lives up to his name as the space time sword.
Atsushi you might wanna go the other way, whatevers going on there isn't looking so good.
Thank you Kunikida, see why don't we all just pack up our shit and leave.
"Tanizaki when I give the signal use your ability to escape"
You know this means whatever comes next is going to have everyone be like erm actually it could just be Junichiro's special ability.
Asagiri knows this fandom to well.
... AHHH!!!??!????? WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK
KUUNNNIIIKIIIIIDAAAAA!!!
That better have been Junichiro's ability I swear to God nooooo! OHH AND ATSUSHI GOT THERE TOO LATE
Whyyyy why would you do this?!
Ohhh his hands are melting I'm like actually crying.
I feel like this itself is a sign that those killed by Amenogozen can come back because no one dies in this series. Because there's no way Asagiri would just kill Kunikida off... I hope.
Atsushi grabbing Junichiro out of harms way like that must've been the hardest decision to make to go.
"Fantastic move"
He's so proud of them.
Very confusing statement from Fukuchi that this blade shouldn't be able to harm Kunikida(?) as it stabs him. I don't know what this line means, if it's meant to mean anything.
Literally paralleling lines to when we thought Kunikida died in the helicopter soo... I dunno what to think anymore.
Also during the helicopter thing, Kunikida essentially told Junichiro that he was in charge... And now Junichiro's had to watch him maybe die again.
The shot of his notebook on the ground is just foul.
Atsushi no it's not you're fault!
I share the sentiment Junichiro I really do.
... THE SWORDS ABOVE HIS HEAD WHATF THE HELL?!
And it ends.
I don't think they'll get Junichiro too but Atsushi was alone in the epilogue.... Oh no.

OH YOUR VERLAINE AND RIMBAUD POSTS AND THE TENDENCY OF ASAGIRI TO FLIP FLOP THE MENTOR/MENTEE OR ADMIRED AND HOW RIMBAUD WAS THE YOUNGER ONE BUT IN BSD VERLAINE WAS SOCIALIZED BY RIMBAUD
With Rimbaud and Verlaine, it's worth remembering that bsd!Rimbaud is Verlaine. His skill is Illuminations, but he gave Black #12 his birth name, Paul Verlaine. bsd!Verlaine was not originally named Rimbaud, but his youth, passions, and duality are Rimbaudian, while bsd!Rimbaud's more coddling temperament, at times paternal and at times impassioned, and last sentiments for bsd!Verlaine, are seemingly references to irlVerlaine's poetry about irl!Rimbaud. (Such as Watercolors: Green, an English translation of which I shared in a separate post.)
Notably, Verlaine published Illuminations on Rimbaud's behalf and influenced the content and arrangement that was published. His legacy is often related more to his relationship with and publication of Rimbaud than his own poetry, according to the journal articles I've been reading. bsd!Verlaine's Brutalization incantation also comes from Arthur Rimbaud's Les Sœurs De Charité.
But the bsd iterations of Rimbaud and Verlaine aren't wholly distinct either, each carrying fragments of the other, sometimes blurring together. That, too, is a homage to the philosophies of the irl!poets. For example, Rimbaud, at times, writes from Verlaine's perspective in Une Saison en Enfer.
Tumblr media
Rimbaud's poetry is also marked for its dialogic perspective-shifting, and he wrote through and lived within a philosophy of ambiguity, duality, and self dissection (at least during his youth):
Tumblr media
irl!Verlaine, too, had a dual personality at times:
Tumblr media
So, I don't think Asagiri flip/flopped Rimbaud and Verlaine's roles; I think he's commentating on, illustrating, and interpreting where their poetry, legacies, and passions became thoroughly entangled, as filtered and processed through bsd's themes. I think Asagiri enjoys plucking tragedy from reality and asking, "What would it have taken for them to have found reason and purpose absent any?"
That said, I also don't think Asagiri is ever really inversing mentor/mentee roles, even in regard to Akutagawa and Dazai. irl!Akutagawa was not irl!Dazai's mentor, he was a profound influence who lived and wrote just prior to the era of modern Japanese literature in which Osamu Dazai made in his name. I think Asagiri is commenting on (i) where they were deeply alike in mind and heart, which is why Dazai found solace and reflections of himself in Akutagawa, and (ii) on the stylistic dexterity Dazai could have lent to Akutagawa had he been in the position to do so, specifically regarding the way Dazai intepreted the I-novel genre through perversions of the truth as a means for expressing sincerity and gut-wrenchingly raw autobiographical candor without flaying himself apart the way Akutagawa seemed to when bullied into confessional literature by the cultural zeitgeist.
(Akutagawa was criticized for his sharp brilliance since the era was consumed with confessional literature, in comparison to which Akutagawa's stylistic precision seemed to many distant and aloof. Parasocialism is older than Christ, and BookTok is a descendent, not the progenitor, of corrosively vapid takes.)
The choices in bsd are playful but sincere inquiries into + conversations with the works, legacies, emotional turmoils, and overwhelming humanity of the referenced authors. But, while I think there's immense profundity in call and response, especially across eras, literary cultures, and artistic mediums, I also think Asagiri is more consumed by revelations than reflections.
I'm also not so sure whether we can call Rimbaud socialized by any contemporary connotation of the word—

i love all the different flavors of inhumanity issues bsd offers. a delectable buffet of the most variably traumatized cast asagiri could offer us.
but also, how each and every character has reacted differently to the lot they've been thrown and has their own personal ways of existing despite. there are so many different avenues to keep on living instead of one set obvious way and that's SO important to me. there is no one way to carry on. it just keeps coming back to having other people around you that will support you whether they know the extent of your history or not

MORE BSD 117 SPOILERS IM TALKING MORE ABOUT BRAM AND AYA AND ALSO AKUTAGAWA
I think Asagiri really did well with writing them (to me Asagiri is actually really good at writing character dynamics especially duos, it's extended plot lines where things may get messy).
There's symbolism/shared themes both ways. For example, carrying people on their back. It's what Aya spent a long while doing when Bram was still part sword, and it's what Bram used to do for his daughter. Bram's daughter even said that one day she'd even carry Bram on her back because she'd become strong - which she didn't necessarily get to do because of her young death. But Aya, who looks almost exactly like her, was able to. Bram through Aya got to see what his daughter would have grown to do and saw her strength develop when faced with.... well whatever has been going on at this airport. Not only did it let Bram hold up the promise he made to his daughter, but it also let him protect her when he couldn't before.
Knights. The promise Bram made to Aya was that he'd be her knight and protect her from all harm. Likely he made a similar one to his daughter. And he, through circumstances that aren't his fault, has broken that promise to Aya. But this time he doesn't seem to be too mad at himself - I mean Aya is pretty mad at him, and Bram may have to die with the idea that she hated him for it (which may be punishment enough). That's because Aya is still alive and will be protected after his death, the way his daughter couldn't be. Protected by Akutagawa, yes, but also by her own strength - she has to be her own knight. She's got the strength that has built up over her life and the time Bram has known her, contrasting the way Bram couldn't see his daughter become strong as her life was taken too early. Aya has now two knights - herself and Akutagawa.
There's also this flashback vs this moment. Seemingly promises and grief are very important here. The father was both angry for breaking his own vow to protect her and also cried for his daughter. The daughter was angry as he broke his vow to protect her and yet cried for her 'father'. They both feel anger, usually directed at Bram himself for breaking a promise of protection. But that anger cannot overshadow Aya's grief. Seemingly, both of them would not ever have much time together on the mortal plain. But, despite the tragedy, Bram has found not only a way to reunite with his daughter but also protect Aya, her doppelgänger, the way he couldn't with his daughter. He leaves Aya's protection in the hands of Akutagawa (and Aya herself), and rejoins his family in the afterlife.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, Akutagawa is finally back and not a vampire, and with a new purpose - to protect Aya from harm. And in this page here, his eyes are drawn differently - his eyes have some light. Since BSD uses eyes as a way to show the level of taintedness of a character's soul, and traditionally akutagawa's eyes have been fully black, it is clear that there has been a change in Akutagawa. He has a new purpose away from Dazai and the Port Mafia that has seemingly healed some of what tainted his soul. He's protecting someone, as he usually does with Atsushi, but now it's of more noble intentions of protection and less of a desire for recognition from Dazai. There's no part of protecting Aya that truly benefits him, his only goal here is the protection of a young child who has been forced into the middle of a conflict. In a way, he's protecting someone similar to his younger self or his younger sister, who by circumstances were forced to fend for themselves at an early age. And I think that might be what's healing him, an element of closure or something like that. Proof that he can protect someone like himself and his sister or his childhood friends, with less rash behaviour and a more effective approach. If that's what ends up happening, comparisons to Beast would be really interesting.
Tumblr media
[I think I just wanted to talk about this chapter like this because it's really interesting and none of my irls have kept up with BSD in ages. The end kind of slid into theorising what may happen next but mostly it's just cool stuff about the chapter I think. Am I going to talk about Kunikida and Tanizaki and all that?... I don't know yet I can never be sure that anyone in this series is dead besides Bram.]

I see so many people contextualizing ???’s lines as a sort of villain monologue, but as a ??? apologist, I have to assert that ??? is nowhere close to a villain. That’s why this part of their conversation is so important to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s desperately trying to communicate to Mob that no one can save him from this, not because he likes to see himself suffer, but because this is Mob’s problem and it can only be solved by Mob. He can’t keep repressing and avoiding and running away from it. Reigen can’t swoop in at the last minute and shoulder his burden this time.
He’s saying “no one will save me” not because he relishes in it, but because he needs Mob to understand the gravity of what he’s done to himself and to be spurred into fixing it.
And ??? isn’t wrong about all this. Mob has always been the one who’s saved himself. HIS POWERS—???—have always been the one to save him, always the one to carry him home, whether from the clutches of murderous terrorists, Mogami’s mental hellscape, or a city-leveling explosion. He practically held the blood in Mob’s head when it was cracked open on the asphalt.
Without this part of Mob, Reigen would’ve sat there and held Mob’s empty body in the Asagiri estate until the paramedics forced it away from him. He would’ve never come home. He would’ve been incinerated in that explosion, and Teru, Ritsu, and Reigen would’ve searched for hours (they already found him like 4-5 hours after the explosion—imagine the agony already there, and they found him) and would’ve never seen him again. Ritsu would get a call in his student council meeting telling him that paramedics found his brother dead on the street from extensive head trauma and blood loss and he would never see his brother laugh and smile again, were it not for this side of Mob who loves him and wants to be him again but sees no other way out. Who has been alone and ignored and destroyed through Mob’s heavy guilt.
He loves Mob because he is Mob and Mob is he, but he cannot keep living like this. He almost died like this, and it cannot continue. Imagine saving yourself—restarting your own heart, guarding your body, and then being looked at by yourself and told that you are unwanted and that you should disappear.
No one will save him because he should not be saved from himself.

Since Asagiri won't give you Guild content, I will. Headcanons, but they're based on irl facts I found within 5 minutes of googling. [These are just my hcs you can add your own if you wanna]
Louisa May Alcott 💌
- Louisa and Nathaniel are family friends. Irl, Louisa's father was one of Hawthorne's pallbearers [pallbearer - someone helping to escort of carry a coffin]. In the setting of BSD, their families were in close relations due to operating at the same church. Even though Louisa doesn't remember, Nathaniel often looked after her since the older girls [Louisa's older sister Anna and Nathaniel's older sister Elizabeth] were often helping around with the adults.
- She really likes pulp fiction.
- She's knowledgeable about the medical field. The real Louisa was a nurse during World War 1.
- Speaking of war, Louisa is a major history nerd.
Margaret Mitchell ☂️
- While BSD Margaret dresses like what if Mary Poppins was a British aristocrat, the real Margaret Mitchell actually preferred dressing in men's clothes. Thus, whenever she's not on duty in the Guild, she's chilling in something she stole from Nathaniel.
- She's afraid of fire. Why? When Margaret was a child, her clothing ended up catching fire on accident. She's never been the same since.
- She also has driving anxiety. When she was 12, her dad hit a deer on the road. She's never been the same since.
Nathaniel Hawthorne ⚔️
- Generally avoids discourse about the Salem Witch Trials. An ancestor of his played a big part during it, two others were married to women who were accused of being witches. Thus, he added the 'w' to his last name.
- He's surprisingly good with glasswork. When the real Nathaniel and his wife moved into their home, the etched poems into the glass of the windows.
- For a large part of his life, he lived in a commune.
- Occasionally, he sees ghosts. The real Nathaniel once said he saw the ghost of his friend reading his own obituary.
Edgar Allan Poe 🦝
- He's an orphan. He doesn't tell people that.
- He likes being alone. Until he gets the feeling that someone is somewhere in the room with him.
- Insanely intelligent. He knows exactly what he's doing.
- Very weak constitution. One time, when the Guild were all drinking and whatever else they were doing, Poe blacked out after one drink of wine. Everyone genuinely thought someone tried to kill him until they found out he couldn't handle alcohol.
- Unphased. He's seen it all. Death? Child's play. Heartbeat under the floorboards? Normal Tuesday. Corpse falling off the roof? Crazy. Someone walking into the party dressed in red? Standard party etiquette.
Lucy Maud Montgomery 🪆
- Also an orphan. Doesn't tell people about it.
- Very charming. She can flirt. She just chooses not to. She knows she's too powerful.
- Cripplingly depressed. Self-explanatory.
- Has girl nights with Louisa and Margaret, basically a few hours of them doing girl activities. They tried to summon Bloody Mary at least seven times to no returns.
H. P. Lovecraft 🦑
- Lovecraft has monochromacy, a condition where someone can only see in grayscale. This is derived from irl Lovecraft's "The Color Out of Space," essentially Lovecraft's low education being the reason why he didn't know about the electromagnetic color spectrum.
- He's afraid of crowds. He hates it here so much.
- Has epilepsy. The only thing that can stop this eldrich monstrosity in a human trench coat is the average disco party.
- Loves cats. He is so normal about them. Cats run to him like crazy.
- He glows in the dark. Why shouldn't he? He's earned it. He's also deficient in vitamins science hasn't discovered yet. His ankles popping sound like rogue gunshots.
- AroAce. Intimacy is a concept he doesn't understand and doesn't want to.
John Steinbeck 🌳
- He's very much a dog person. His family keeps dogs. His favorite breed is the Australian Sheep dog.
- He was very sick as a child.
- Really into marine biology. [Steincraft fans stay winning.]
- Before the Guild, he worked as a construction worker, newspaper reporter, and caretaker.
- Ironically enough, he has a pollen allergy. It's not severe, just watering eyes and sniffles. He hates it.
Mark Twain 🔫
- So normal about the ocean. He takes Lovecraft and John with him when he goes boating.
- Into geology. He's the guy who collects rocks whenever he's outside.
- Guild game night isn't game night is Mark isn't beating everyone in every board game to ever exist.
- So normal about cats. The real Mark Twain has 19 cats, all with titles like Apollinaris, Beelzebub, Blatherskite, Buffalo Bill, Satan, Sin, Sour Mash, Tammany, Zoroaster, Soapy Sal and Pestilence to name a few. BSD Mark has one ginger cat he adopted off the streets of Yokohama he names Sal, occasionally calling her Sin whenever she's around Nathaniel.
- He almost drowned twice. One would think that would kill his passion for boating, but he baller'd his way out of it.
Francis S. K. Fitzgerald 🪙
- Dyslexic and in denial. Louisa tried to gently bring it up to him that half of his work email was spelled incorrectly, but he was in denial and chalked it up to it being 3 in the morning when he wrote that work email.
- He worked as a screenwriter before the Guild. Coincidentally, he met his wife there!
- He strikes me as a guy who owns a copy of "A Pickle For the Knowing Ones". If you don't know what that is, please look it up. I promise it's worth it.
- Makes too many dad jokes. John and Nathaniel officially want him dead.
- He forgets to sleep. He just forgets. Even though he looks like he died and got resurrected without prior notice and everyone in the Guild is asking him if he had a breakdown, he forgets to sleep.
Hermine Melville 🐋
- At some point in his life, he lived in the Pacific Islands.
- Hiking enthusiast. He likes the mountain terrain a lot.
- His office smells like smoke. No one knows why. It just does.
- Not much about him to be honest. I wish there was more screentime for him. <//3
