More Rebel love. This is the third time Rebel has met Shady, a 9 months old Dutch Shepherd. Shady's owner is working hard on neutrality, it's been a lot of fun being able to work with Rebel's confidence around other dogs.

I am confident in saying that Rebel is now getting overall confident with strange dogs. Depending on their energy when they first approach, she may poof up and want a high perch. Within two minutesnsje will want down from her high perch and then within 5 minutes she will be trying to approach them or just ignoring them to explore on the ground.

I wish there were other cats I could be working around with her, but it's not like a lot of people train their cats like I do. 😅

But she may have a lot of dog friends in her life time.

Anyone have any tips for taming semi-feral very very scared kitties? I just adopted a mostly socialized cat and she’s had a hellish week- poor girl traveled all the way from Hawaii and is struggling to settle into her home and I’d love to help put her at ease the best I can. She’s currently in a nest in the bathroom with everything she needs, she’s just very hidey. Never had to socialize a cat before so anybody who’s had experience feel free to give me some pointers!

I need to be directed to the Cat Socializing Experts on this website because new cat and traumatized baby angel Grayby is *not* adjusting to Captain and I have tried. many things.

Grayby has been settled in my office for 3 months and is happy there, but I want to get her integrated into the rest of the house so we get more time with her. she is traumatized from previous ownership, likely being hit or grabbed by humans, but she loves to be pet when she initiates contact. I think she is quite anxious.

she did not have problems socializing with the other street cats when she lived on our porch. we started slowly introducing Captain to her, under the door, brief supervised time in the office and downstairs. Grayby likes when Captain plays under the door, will sniff him in greeting, and does not mind eating next to him. they can be in the same room. EXCEPT if she gets triggered into a state of Zero Tolerance for Captain's Bullshit, at which point she will start growling at him for being within 5 feet even if he is not paying attention to her, and hissing at him for approaching her. to be fair, Captain is annoying. he is not really aggressive but just does not understand that hissing and growling means he is not welcome to approach, and does not care if she slaps the shit out of him. he still wants to play with her. he's so dumb. Grayby goes into a corner, and then he corners her.

I do a bit of socializing time with them every day or every other day. I'm not sure if I should interrupt their time together as soon as Grayby growls at him, even when he's not doing anything, or try to let them work it out (and interrupting actual fights or when Grayby gets really stressed).

things I have tried, but have perhaps not tried consistently enough:

giving them catnip

erecting a "baby gate" on the door so they can interact through it. (impractical)

redirecting Captain when he starts to bother her

feeding them side by side (Grayby is fine with this so I'm not sure if more of it will help?)

playing with both of them at the same time

petting both of them at the same time

on a discord call w a friend and both them and their spouse got phone calls and are now having two separate conversations both of which i can only kind of hear over discord i genuinely unironically love that technology can let me just hang out in the living room of someone i care about

neither of them got along with Wednesday, but he also went out of his way to start physical confrontations with them.

but when Marmaduke was still around, they'd all lie together peacefully (even though Marm had TERRIBLE social skills with other cats, and would walk straight at them making intense eye contact! which in cat language usually means "I am about to start a fight")

and then with my mom's construction site kittens, Pangur isn't overly friendly, but will also follow them around in fascination, lie near them, and parallel play while they're playing. so she clearly loves their company, even if she's not willing to be best buds

I think the kitten will be initially annoying to them, but will eventually be a source of entertainment, and possibly even a friend.
