Tips for drawing in The Owl House style?

I'm not very good at tutorials but I'll try to give some tips with this OLD drawing and the redraw I did of it two years later as examples

The main thing to understand when drawing in the Owl House style is proportions (the main difference between these drawings)

You're gonna have to get used to drawing skinny bodies with long legs cause that's most TOH characters. A majority of the characters legs make up like half of their bodies. (Though it's more noticeable on the teens and women than the men)

You notice how their necks are too sort in the first picture? The length TOH characters necks vary depending on height, most likely for a more defined silhouette. Because the Hexide uniforms have hoods, most of the teenagers have long enough necks so their heads are visible not touching their hoods

Although not all as shorter characters have shorter necks

Meanwhile tall characters, like the adults, have longer necks. Eda (and Lilith) actually have long necks while Camila who's short has a shorter neck. Raine's is normal but still visible shorter than Eda's. Same with Luz.

Should go without saying but the wider a character's body is the wider a character's neck should be (I see alot of people draw fat characters with skinny necks). More noticeable, most of the adult men have a broad build and therefore have much wider necks compared to the women and children

Also, the witches ears are not completely pointed at the end, they're slightly rounded.

This could be easily missed, but some of the female characters (like Eda and Amity) have thicker outlines for their eyes, almost like their wearing mascara

If shading matters to you, most of the time the shading is limited to under the nose (unless they have a hooked nose), under the neck and SOMETIMES on the ears. Of course it depends on the scene and the setting.

This last point doesn't matter at all but I've noticed alot of cartoons draw blush differently. Some do solid color horizontal ovals, some do a full gradient splotch across the nose, some just do lines.

In the Owl House when most characters blush its the gradient spots on each cheek, and sometimes they do the lines thing too. Or both.

The only exception (I think) is Amity (+Alador I guess) who blushes across her whole face sometimes and Raine who reapeatly blushes on their nose/across their nose. They both also do the line thing too.

FOR SURE lmao i made. a diagram. just a warning that i am going to be irritating and long winded because u just hit a topic i really like sorry lmao

so first off i did some traces just to show whats there vs redraws to show my interpretation

ive said this on other asks but again jsyk, tracing isnt bad!! its a tool. theres some stuff with intellectual property and whatnot but using tracing to study shapes and forms is a really valuable practice.

also just taking some time to learn facial structures and anatomy is super useful, reading what bones and muscles are where and how they interact with one another. taking this info and staring in the mirror and moving your face around and thinking about it. just really furthers understanding of how the face works. trying to sound normal about this but i love anatomy and motion and physics and whatever

anyways im going to go through all the numbered points so there's no confusion. 1. forehead lines - self explanatory. more prominent when brows are raised 2. crows feet - at the outer corners of the eyes, more prominent when smiling or squinting 3. nasolabial folds - the folds that go from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth. more prominent when the mouth is wide, like smiling 4. brow furrow - self explanatory, most prominent when brows are furrowed. mccoy tends to have two right next to his eyebrows, kirk has one in the middle. everyones face works different lmao 5. chin crease - caused by how the chin and lower lip interact. 6. nasojugal groove - start from the inner corners of the eye and can extent over the cheeks. everyone has these and idk why people dont like them i think theyre really cool!!!! but Society. i guess. :/ 7. eye bags - caused by the skin sagging beneath the eyes. mccoy isnt even that old in tos i think hes meant to be mid 40s by the end of the 5 year mission, hes just got really prominent eye bags lmao 8. idk what the name is for these, but when the mouth is wide and pushes the skin to the sides, these folds sometimes form outside of the nasolabial folds 9. philtrum - the groove above the upper lip. i dont usually draw this but mccoy's struck me as prominent enough that i usually draw it on him 10. masseter - the muscle that moves the jaw up and down. its a pretty rugged muscle and while i wouldnt say mccoy's is especially prominent, it kind of extends that nasojugal groove from certain angles/positions 11. orbicularis oris - mouth muscle, usually easier to see when lips are pursed or frowns are pulled. mccoy's is pretty prominent from 3/4ths or side, his mouth tends to protrude in profile 12. this isnt a muscle but more of a line defining the planes of the face, but since i drew it i felt i should explain lmao

a few points:

im an animator i tend to exaggerate and emphasize certain things so i usually make him more square.

i like to combine eyebags and crows feet for brevity/flow, same with nasojugal grooves, eyebags, and masseter lines. my approach is always subject to change based on pose, expression, reference image, etc.

i take out details that i deem redundant or cluttering and keep what details i need to make things feel Right

all this info is applicable to any character of any age, its just in how you apply it and facial proportions that willl change how old a character is perceived to be

there's a lot more with drawing a Character rather than an Actor, just because the features are there doesnt necessarily mean things will feel correct? its very much in the mannerisms and poses and expressions

i only went over my approach to his likeness but not really body type or posing or anything idk if u want that i could always try to answer that later haha

Nasolabial Fold...... i jsut do what feels right with the visual info i have. also i love specificity in faces.... i dont like to be a hater but when every character is drawn the same it pisses me off a little lmao. so

also dont take my word as The Only Way to do anything i just draw how i like to draw and no one should feel like these are things that Must be done to be a good artist or anything do whatever the hell u wanna do

June Murphy sits bolt upright, awaking to a sharp pain on her neck. A small but significant weight falls onto her lap as her mind blinks away the remnants of a dream. Confused, she looks down, squinting in the dark of her room. There was something on her lap- 

It moved.

The sudden movement catches June off guard- a startled yelp escaping her lips. Something was in her bed. Something alive. Was there a mouse in her bed?? A rat?? The… thing takes off, scrambling in a way that causes her unease to rise. It didn't move right- It's limbs too long for a rodent, it's body far too thin. What could it- before she could finish her thought, it stood. 

She didn’t scream - she couldn’t. Fear seemed to constrict her voice into some strained combination between a gasp and a yell. 

What the fuck was in her bed!?

This felt like it should be a dream... but everything, despite the absurdity, felt very, very real. Yet, as if under the influence of some bizarre feral instinct, she feels like a bystander as she watches her hand shoot out, catching the figure in a tight fist. As soon as her fingers clasp around it she feels it squirm and thrash within her grasp, weird not-rodent legs kicking wildly. She shudders. It… it was snarling… was it feral? She feels as it claws into the flesh of her palm and a sense of dread wells up along with the pain; What if this thing was rabid?  

In the dark of her room, June struggled to make out details, but whatever it was it did not like being caught. Steeling her nerves, she hesitantly brings it closer to her face. Her movement seems to only result in more frenzied struggles from the…the… What the Hell was that??

She blinks. 

The scene before her is beyond surreal. A man- a very tiny man- thrashed about wildly in her grasp. As her eyes adjust to the dark, they meet with its- his own; wide with horror. 

Her gaze falls to his lips- smeared red with blood. It gives a terrified little cry, sounding all too human in its fear.

All at once, June was wide awake.

It… it really was a man. A very tiny and very terrified man in her hand… A million questions seem to sound off at once in her mind. Was it really a man?? Maybe he was some sort of …creature?? Could he speak? Why was he in her house? Her last question fills her with a growing sense of horror at the snarling being in her hand…Why… Why was he in her bed?

The creature snarls, and before June has time to react- the creature bites, her hand releasing reflexively. She watches in horrified fascination as the thing jumps, diving off the side of her bed, its desperation all too clear in the way it scrambles to its feet.

The tiny frame of the… the what? The creature? The word felt wrong in her mind. That was no creature. That… that was a man. She watched as the tiny frame of the something darted around the corner of her desk. June felt like her brain was on autopilot. In a flash she was out of bed and dropping to her hands and knees, sliding herself in place between the door and the…. The… being. 

“No, no, no, no-” A flurry of desperate words came from the creature. June drew in a sharp breath at the sound… It could speak. For a second, the thought sent a shiver down her spine. What the Hell had she found? As her eyes strained to adjust in the dark, she began to make out more details in its form. It moved erratically; head on a swivel- until its gaze settled on her… She felt uneasy. It looked intelligent… It looked like a man.

He was long limbed and lean, with a mess of black hair cut short at the sides. Her eyes were drawn to his ears, long and pointed and certainly not human. Was he an… elf ? A fairy? Despite him being directly in front of her, her mind dismissed the thought. That was ridiculous… Though, this whole situation was ridiculous, wasn’t it? 

His chest heaved he backed himself into the corner of where her desk met the wall. It… he stared up at her, his large ears pinned back. She thought she might have glimpsed tears glittering in those tiny eyes… but more unnervingly, she could very easily see the blood on his lips. As he catches her eyes on his face, he frantically wipes the blood away- his movements unnaturally quick. 

"Please." His voice, far deeper than she would have expected, cracked as he spoke. The sound made June wince, "Don't…" He stared up at her, eyes wide as he choked out his words "-hurt me."

His words caught her off guard- why would she… she wouldn’t-  oh.  June sees the way the little man holds his side. Had she hurt him when she grabbed him? She hadn’t meant to but… she certainly hadn’t been gentle in her panic either. 

"Oh… no-I …I would never…." June struggled to find the words. She was still battling with the absurdity of the situation and his near palpable fear seemed to catch her off guard. For a moment, a fraction of the tension leaves the little man's frame. Almost as if acting on its own, June’s hand slowly reaches forward, wanting to comfort the pitiful sight. 

The movement, however subtle, did not go over well. The man fell back, his back pressed firmly in the corner of her desk and the wall. Had there been even the slightest gap between the two June had no doubt he would have shoved himself between the two to avoid her touch. His face twists to a look of complete terror- eyes desperate and pleading.

“No! No, please!”  She froze. Never in her life had she heard a voice so filled with fear, “Stay away from me!” June immediately withdrew her hand. His chest rose and fell with such speed it made her sick to her stomach. She felt her throat tighten… the thought of causing someone so much distress was overwhelming to the point of suffocating. She racked her brain for something-anything to say, but his shakey words interrupted her frenzied thoughts. 

"Are you trying to catch or-" his voice faltered, "-kill me?"

Oh.

She grimaced. June didn't like that question… mainly because she was all too aware of her answer. 

"If I'm being honest," she began, the words feeling like sandpaper on her tongue, "I do want to …um, catch you." She cringed. The word itself seemed to catch on her tongue..it felt dirty. You didn't catch a … a person. Was that what he was? But people… well people certainly weren't this small- And he was in her house! At the very least she deserved some answers... But even as those thoughts rose in her mind she knew all too well that they were just justification for a much greater force at play; curiosity. For a brief moment, the little man's breathing stops, his jaw agape, frozen from her admission. June watches as he looks quickly to her side, clearly looking to make a dash, then thinking better of it. As his eyes square back to her there seems to be a shift in his demeanor. She fumbles with her words, trying to elaborate in a way that doesn’t sound so blatantly awful, “I mean- It.. its not-”

“-And what if I don’t want to be caught?” There's venom in his words. His voice is angry… accusatory, but most potent of all, his voice is racked with fear. The raw emotion distills an unease June, as if the potency is just too much to take in. There was no lying to herself, no pretending she was unaware. Even in the dark corner of her room his fear was clear as day, and she knew without a doubt she was the source. Yet, his fear of her wasn't quite the source of her unease. No… it was that she knew she had all the power to stop it. She could just let him leave, whatever he was… but she wanted- no, she needed answers. She refused to outright think it, but the concept was still there in her mind, abstract and untouched; Until she got answers, his feelings came second to her own. 

“If you didn’t want to be caught by me, then just what were you doing in my house?” 

All at once he goes rigid. Petrified.

Shit. 

June swallows her frustration, immediately back peddling. 

“Look, you’re not- I don’t have to ca-” June sighs, rubbing her temples. There really was no good way to word this. "You don't have to be… caught…”  The word still sticks in her throat, “I.. I just need some answers.”

She swallowed. Both literally as well as the guilt that gnawed at the edges of her mind. He looked horrified. 

“I.. I really don't want to scare you... I just… don't want you to leave…Not before I get some answers.” June grits her teeth. Each of her responses left a foul taste in her mouth. She knows what her words truly mean;  you’re my hostage until I get what I want. She pushes that thought deep down, wanting to forget her disgust.

“I don't have to be caught as long as I don't leave??” His fear seemed to evaporate for a split second as fury bled into its place, “Being caught and not leaving are the same damn if the premise is I don't want to be here!!” Just as fast as the rage had filled him it left… deflating him. His expression turned desperate, "And what happens if I try to leave, huh?" June sees tears welling up in his eyes. "Would you just catch me then?"

“I-” June’s voice falters. She knows her answer instantly, worse yet, she knows the shame on her face makes it clear.

" … I'm sorry."

it always makes me really happy to see artists that are more 'fandom-centric' by nature posting their OCs and other things along that line and getting positive feedback, which then in turn causes them to create and post more OC stuff tbh (this is meant 100% genuinely, i apologise if the way i phrased it is a little stilted or odd, i just love seeing non fandom content on my dash)

tbh i always drew my own characters and stories since childhood but started doing fanart when i joined my first big fandom back then (which was bleach in my teenage years); i kept drawing my own things until college between fanart here and there but the moment i made my art blog here i neglected my works more and more and did more fanart instead (for fgo back then). i havent drawn any of my comics again for 4 years or smth but now that my sister got back into hers again she motivated me to pick up my old stories again!!

i think bc ppl were so excited abt my fanart i always knew my own stuff wouldnt get as much reaction so i didnt even try and then just stopped working on it hhjhdfkj but yea, now that my sister gave me motivation and energy and now that i see ppl are actually liking my stuff its smth else aaaa. sry for rambling, i just wanted to clarify that im not fandom-centric by nature, it just happened over the time

anw idk what i should babble abt so uhhh have a fun fact:

not only is this specific story the first proper, planned through one i drew in my teenage years, its also the one that got me in trouble and caused a lot of serious pain bc my adoptive father snooped in my room back then and stole specific pages (like gore or smut scenes, yea i was edgy but also heavily traumatized and in a very bad place) and made up random shit about it to make fun of me, expose me by showing my friends and others and claim outrageous stuff. i tried to remake it later but always stopped with each version and never attempted to revive this story again bc it always filled me with shame and horror knowing he still owns these pages. me redrawing it now is lit the first time in YEARS that i touch it again and it feels very healing, like im seeing my teenage self again drawing this stuff with sm passion and not the person anymore who trampled on it and used it to cause me pain. bc that exact thing was what kept me from working on it again. i just couldnt do it.

(as usual w personal stuff, im just sharing this very dry like facts and i get uncomfortable when people send comfort so ye, reminder to not do that please)

Opinion on this idea: Instead of an engagement ring, Bully!Eddie makes reader get a tattoo of his name somewhere where he can only see 😼 (But maybe will give her a nice engagement ring down the line once he's able to save up).

for one: homemade tattoo. Eddie designs it and tells you he's gonna apply it himself, don't be a baby he's done it before, but he refuses to let you see the tattoo beforehand. you're terrified but you did agree to it, and you agreed to marry him, so.....all you can really do is just trust him. he wants to put it on your chest, right in the middle and just below your tits, so it'll be covered by your clothes and only occasionally seen if you wear a bikini or something. when he dips that scary-looking needle into his little pot of ink you're shaking, already close to tears and expecting him to just jab it right in--but he's so gentle, does the tiniest line and looks up at you to ask "s' the pain okay?" and when you process what he's saying and finally nod, he goes back to it, focused hard on what he's doing and slinking one of his hands up to hold yours when it gets really painful.

when it's done, somehow you're even more scared to see it, even though he doesn't have that smug smirk on his face that would tell you he's done something awful. but once Eddie's deemed that you've been laying down enough and he's gotten a little water in you, he helps you up and shows you what it looks like in the mirror, uncharacteristically quiet all the while. what you see staring back at you is a little black bat just like his, but its wings are outstretched and written across them are a line of little letters in a gothic-esque script; an E followed by a plus and the initial of your first name, with Munson carefully scrawled even smaller underneath it so the whole name fits. it's.....it's nicer than you were expecting, and you have no idea how relieved Eddie is when you tell him you love it. he can't even boast, he just smiles to himself, grateful that those long weeks of planning out the design and redrawing it a million times paid off.

aside from that, I also like the idea of bully!Eddie having no real concept of what's appropriate for an engagement ring. he knows what you like, but he doesn't know how much he should spend--and when he's saved up enough, he's stricken with fear when he shows what he picked out to his uncle, and Wayne just goes white as a sheet.

"fuck, what is it? is the colour off? does it look cheap? goddamn it, that lying fucking prick of a salesman-" Eddie nearly goes into a full, flustered rant as he pulls his hand back, looking over the ring like he hadn't done so a million times before he bought it and after--until Wayne stops him, and laughs.

"son, she's going to have a heart attack when she sees that, it's gorgeous. what on god's earth did you pay for a ring like that?"

let's just say Wayne is rendered speechless for a second time when Eddie tells him the price, completely blown away by how nonchalant his nephew is as he asks "what? i saved up my bonuses, and it's the kind she likes. you don't give a woman like that some cheap piece of shit." needless to say, Eddie's surprised to hear that he's probably spent about two or three times the amount any normal person would, but there's no way he's returning it for something more reasonable, cause it's the one ring he's found that's exactly what you would look for. of course, he's not gonna be totally certain until he gives it to you, but he's definitely gonna have quite the puddle of happy and shocked tears to mop up when he pulls it out on your anniversary.

Redraws of some of my favorite Conan/Shinichi expressions so far! I'll likely be making more posts like this cus this show is filled with really good expressions and poses that I really want to draw. Honestly this show needs more moments like the ones above, its such a good visual gag.

For those who don't know, I'm watching this show completely blind so please keep spoilers out of this post; as of posting this, I have just finished ep 289.

Gonna get into some of my current thoughts and critiques in the read more cus I don't really want to make a separate text post so feel free to avoid all of that if you don't want to see it and I hope you enjoyed the art :)

Disclaimer: These critiques should be taken lightly as they don't really impede my enjoyment as overall the show is great! I just like to share my thoughts and ramble.

286-288 is actually kind of a good summary for some of the things I dislike about the show, like sorry if people like that case but Shinichi and Yukiko being there unfortunately did not make it less meh for me.

I usually try to keep in mind that shows like this weren't intended for an american/english-speaking audience but man, New York is such a bad setting for this show. Even if you ignore the actual voice acting, its jarring how the americans just, stop speaking english. I really wanna know what the bts situation was to make them decide that, like sure 3 episodes is a lot, but its hard to believe these new yorkers, besides 2 cops and a taxi driver, are speaking Japanese.

Other thoughts go to the end with the murderer of the case and the disguised killer. Not sure how to word this exactly but it kind of bothers me how this is, I think, the first time we've gotten a murderer who's backstory isn't about some misfortune that happened to them that was caused by the victim, like nah, she was just evil, and then later Shinichi and Ran stop a serial killer from falling to their death, like what? Especially with these two scenes practically being back to back, I just don't get why they did that. Idk just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Anyways on a lighter note, loved seeing Ran's thoughts throughout the episode, especially at the end, like I love internal conflict for characters, and it works for Ran as well since falling for that 'you helped cause this' fear is pretty consistent with her.

And lastly I wanna share some thoughts I've had about the show cus I don't know where to put them. That being said, I really wish they had some episodes early on that explored more of the dynamics between characters and Shinichi's transition into Conan. Like the idea of a rich 16-17 year old being stuck as a 6-7 year old who now lives with his not girlfriend and has to go back to first grade is such a dramatic change, no way that situation wasn't hard to get used to. Unfortunately, I'm more than far enough into this show to know they aren't going to do anything like that. And besides very small moments that spawned headcanons for me, there isn't much going on relationship wise either. After episode 3, the dynamics between the characters was set and hasn't really changed too much, which is a little sad imo.

I'll stop rambling for now, apologies with how discoherent this is, translating my thoughts into words has never been my strong suit.

Flash is wearing stick-on earrings in the new version XD cause I thought it would be cute :3c

gotta match their looks to each other... well really the purple lipstick is the only thing peter's wearing that matches flash's look but eh.

Peter's lipstick is actually MJ's doing because in 2019 when I drew the original I wrote a fic to sort of accompany it (though not 100%) which you can of course read on AO3 (here)

But I do think that in ASM622 he should have been wearing black lipstick or something cause the red eyeshadow was just not goth enough on its own XD COWARD jk jk he was still hot even w/o lipstick

Similar to the original here but I added a black X (for no drinking) because of a scene I included in aforementioned fic and I think it made a nice detail. I also took Flash's leggings off and got Peter's hand on Flash's ass instead... I guess Flash should probably have leg hair but I didn't draw it for whatever reason. Maybe he just wants to be smooooth for the party.

This is the original! Wow big fucking difference in three and a half years LOL Though I did use the original partly as an undersketch for the actual sketch cause there were some parts i was like, sure that's fine. As you can see Flash's hair is straighter here and also he had one of those tattoo chokers on his bicep but I decided to forego that in the new version. Also in this drawing (and in the fic) I gave Peter ripped up skinny jeans but I felt like drawing the leather pants inspired by ASM622 instead for the redraw. And changed his t-shirt slightly as well. Other than that and a minor tweak for flash's shorts and leggings it's pretty similar.

This is from an au created by @bonkdd, but i did rob and andrew's designs bc i never saw his designs for them. i also added a lot of lore and plot stuff because i really liked the concept. in simple terms the tallies are robots that were abandoned by Marvin after he passed away so now they're falling apart n stuff without him to care for them (that's why rob hides his face). Did an embossing peice. It's the Mojo Chessmaster! I tried by best to make it as detailed as possible, and I think I did pretty alright. The neck was probably the worst part to do. Below are close-ups

the head of the guitar was a pain in the ass.

This part was also pretty tricky but it came out okay. the dials at the bottom are raised as much as I could get them to go, so I'm not worried about them. My issue here was the pickups.

I also added Flansburgh's little signature guy but i drew his hair because why not? Anyways this piece took me a good hour or so to finish, I think it'll fetch a good grade (it was for my metal design class).

it's from a tally hall fanfic/au i made back in may after my grandpa passed away. It was a great stress-reliever and I still really like how it turned out. It's about cryptids and monsters and shit. I'll post a summary on a different post because this one was mostly for the drawings. I might post a few installments of it on my ao3. It could be a weekly thing since i usually have time on fridays to write.

TLDR: its been a slash positive ride thats been worth it to try "something new" every year and my favorite piece out of all of them is the 9th. also for the curious heres the comparison of the 5th anni piece to the recent one (2018 -> 2023)

oh where to begin *rocks on my rocking chair* i guess it would be with the 5th anniversary piece...at the time it had been a long while since i did lineless art and i thought it would be cool to try it again for that one so i did by redrawing an old piece from 2014... that was the first "finished piece" i made of Them. i think i even made it into a wallpaper for myself lmao. anyway after i posted it i was like "aw man i should draw something every year until the 10th" but i thought yeah right. im going to forget next year like the idiot i am. but i Some How managed to do one every year... th worms got me... i honestly didnt think id make it all the way to the 10th but i did!! AND WITHOUT MISSING A DAY EXCEPT FOR THE 7TH WHERE I WAS A WEEK LATE???? UNREAL especially when fun fact! every year i had no idea what i wanted to do! all i knew for sure is that i wanted each piece to be out of my comfot zone to push me to do something a little different. unfortunately the subjects tm where always the same so it feels a little. samey. but these are my celebratory posts I GET TO ONLY POST ABOUT THE OTP SUPER BLORBOS OF ALL TIME

the 6th anniversary was a redraw of that one scene. you know the one. the helicopter one. fucking hate that scene btw it actually causes me psychic damage i cant watch with the audio or ill scream. but it is my favorite scene of mine despite all the horrors it causes <3 and i wanted to redraw it as if it was a cartoon... like i had taken screencaps from the lcu cartoon in my head. i still remember the backgrounds being such a pain in the ass. honestly id like to go back and redo this one one day too or do something similar to the concept because its a fun one that i always saw done growing up and i wanted to try it myself.

for the 7th anniversary you can see the turn.. no more humans... return to lego... i was getting a little more confident in drawing them in the lego form so i did another redraw this time with the ending!! honestly i still like this one and how it looks even with how late it was but i wanted to test my confidence and do a real True and Finished piece with COLORED LINES and EVERYTHING!!!!! im glad i ended up taking the turn because for the LONGEST TIME i wanted to try and draw them as lego so bad because all i did was draw them as humans and its funny because now its the exact opposite. glad this piece was kinda the solidification in my head that yeah okay im a bit better at drawing the stylized lego toy now i can keep drawing them like this without feeling like im going to want to delete this in 2 weeks.

the 8th anniversary one is so weird. somewhere toward the beginning of the year it got into my head that i wanted to do a comic of them but time/school would have gotten in the way so i ended up opting for a page. another redraw of the ending scene which honestly out of all of them this is my least favorite one and its solely because its all so off. i def could have formated it better so the background shot doesnt take up the entire fucking page but then again im not a comic guy and this was my first time so the layout was bound to look HORRID but this is something id like to come back to ive had the idea of making like a genuine short comic about them since FOREVER and now that im a bit more experienced (lying) i would like to make one day!!!! just gotta stop getting caught up in my scripts!! and going in circles!! Because im obviously not a writer and i keep getting first-hand embarrassment from these!! but ill get over it one day lol.

OH THE 9TH ANNIVERSARY PIECE MY BELOVED. ONE OF MY FAVORITE PIECES ACTUALLY i love this stupid thing so much you have no idea.i know its re-using lineless but i just loved the idea of what it would look like lineless AND IT CAME OUT SO PERFECT I LOVE IT SO MUCH obv it needs a few touch-ups so the main issues dont stand out to me but god. i love this piece so much. idk what came out of me to make this but its so good ill never get over it. and the little lego them as a cake topper ITS JUST SO CUTE I DONT HAVE MUCH TO SAY OTHER THAN I LOVE THIS SO MUCH SORRY

finally. the 10th anniversary piece. oh my god. okay. i need everyone to understand this. i had woken up with this fucking Unbearable pounding headache that was trying to kill me. my body the entire day wanted me to stop and lie down, but last night i was already done with a good chunk of it and all i had to do that day was finish some lines and the coloring?? i literally don't remember all i remember is my body actively trying to shut down and force me to stop and sleep which i took a nap? didnt help. so i said fuck it im finishing this. i was. an entire goddamn corpse arched over my laptop. i was so delirious the entire time its a fucking miracle it even came out as good as it did but honestly. i still hate how it fucking looks. like you can TELL when i gave up (the shading) and it sticks out like a sore fucking thumb to me and it pisses me off because i knew i could have done so much better if i wasnt being stricken down by gods hand and his every attempt to get me to rest. idk like im generally proud ot it, with this one i wanted to go out with a bang tm so i tried to draw every important and relevant character instead of ALL of them like I was originally planning LMAO but ah well. maybe one day when im faster at drawing. this one i defiantly wanna go back and touch up but i everytime i open the file i can see 40 more things wrong with it and it drives me nuts. so ill just have to wait for when im ready. i guess.

can i just say though. the improvement is crazy. it always catches me off guard because tbh i uh. dont like my own art. im getting better at not fucking hating it because i can pinpoint everything wrong with it but whenever i see the side by sides it always surprises me. i always dont think im improving but then i see it and its like wow i really am getting better! i still suck at 3000 things but im getting better! and its overall just a nice thing to see after having drawn them for as long as i have... the power of the worms is strong and has ruined my brain...... speaking of i know ive said a few times that i fucking hate certain pieces, not just LCU related ones but almost anything i post, but if you love them and are able to look at them with a twinkle in your eye then thank you. genuinely. i honestly love looking over the tags of people exploding and saying nice things. it warms my cold little heart and im glad there are people out there that genuinely love some of the things what i do! even if its just fanart and its just their blorbo. thank you for sticking around even tho all i do is draw my otp super blorbos :'^) this game means the world to me and im glad like more than 2 people wanna spread it around.

‘A Very Devil Christmas’ but it’s in the Welcome Back to The Casino AU; Part 1

Christmas always found a way to sneak into people’s hearts. Whether it was the feeling of Christmas spirit, the snow, or most likely the presents. Either way, the holiday surely knew how to bring people together. It was a season of being kind, caring and above all, loving those around you.

Ugh.

The Devil loved it for one reason dnd one reason only; it was the perfect time to cause trouble. Yes, the season may bring out the best out of everyone but it brought out the devil in her- no pun intended.

The ice skaters were just asking for the ice to break so they could fall in the water and become what could simply be described as human icicles.

How was she not supposed to trip the guy carrying the presents? The man couldn’t see anyways, he would’ve fallen anyway.

And no one could tell her that the ornaments falling off the tree by an ‘unknown force’ after the couple had worked a hard three hours in it wasn’t funny.

Making a car crash into the town’s tree to make it catch on fire was the best part of the day, by far.

It’s all about interpretation, and the Devil found this whole thing hilarious. She didn’t need anything else other than herself and the trouble she made throughout Inkwell to make her happy.

A sound caught her attention and whipped her around. It came from a toy store, the front window to be exact. She couldn’t quite see past the group of kids standing in front of it though. Children were so greedy and bratty, how could anyone see past their stupid heads? And touching their faces to the glass? Unsanitary.

Luckily, the Devil knew exactly how to handle this; with a lot of care and maturity.

“HEY YOU LITTLE BRATS GET THE HECK OUT OF HERE!”

All of the kids screamed and ran off at the mere sight of the Devil- some even cried, which was music to her ears.

The Devil approached the window, placing her hands against the glass. She gasped, seeing the trace of the noise.

“What a lovely little train!” Her eyes followed it across the tracks of the small set in the shop. “There it goes!” She ran to follow it as it got out of eyesight. “The little wheels are so cute!” The train whistled, the Devil’s tail wagged as she pressed her face against the glass. “Oh my Me! The little sound!”

“Daaaad!” The moment was interrupted by a bratty voice, which encouraged the Devil to look round the corner to see the commotion. “I want that! And I was that, and new marbles and new building blocks- Oh and more than anything I want a Spaceship!” A young girl tugged on her rather tired-looking father’s arm.

“What a greedy little brat.” A smile sneaked its way on Old Scratch’s face.

“Well, you asked for all those things last year, Sammy, but you don’t get them, and why was that again?” The girl’s father scolded her.

“Cuz I glued my brother’s face to the floor.” The girl frowned.

“Permanently glued.” The man shook his head.

“I like this kid.” The Devil giggled.

“You know it’s almost like you wanna end up on that naughty list.” The dad gripped the bridge of his nose.

“What? Naughty list? The Hell is that?” Her smile vanished and the demon blinked.

“But I’ve been working hard to be good all year! I’ve gotta be on the nice list!”

“Uh-huh, sure, come on Sammy.”

“Nice list? And what is that?” The Devil followed the two of them for answers. “You there, girl.” She whispered to the young girl. “What is this naughty list you speak of? Cuz it certainly seems like something I should know about.”

“Uh, where’ve you been? It’s what Santa puts you on when you’re naughty, and it sucks cuz if you’re on the list you don’t get presents.”

“What??”

“Yeah, that’s why I’ve been trying to be nice ALL. YEAR!”

“Yuck!”

“Yeah, it really sucks an egg, but I know it’ll all be worth it when I get my spaceship!” The girl walked faster to catch up with her dad.

“Well that’s no good.” The Devil looked back at the train in the window of the toy shop. “I guess I’ll have to somehow find a way to get on the nice list…”

Down in the Underworld, the imps and various demons that worked for the Devil sat at the table where they held meetings. Of course, with the Boss not being there, they all took that as an opportunity to take a break. Though many had found an unfortunate situation they would argue about anyways.

“Look, I am not pointing fingers,” Stickler yelled over the arguing. “But whoever is stealing lunches from the community fridge needs to stop doing so! Mine are always clearly labeled with the name ‘Stickler’ yet they often go missing.”

“Mine too!”

“Yeah me too!!”

“I know we all work in the fiery underworld,” It was rather hard to make Henchwoman angry, but not impossible. “But that’s no excuse for this!”

The door slammed, turning everyone’s heads.

“Alright everyone, listen up.” The Devil walked in, taking off her coat and hanging it in the rack. “What would have to happen for someone- me for example- to let’s just say… Get on Santa’s nice list?”

You could hear a pin drop. All the imps looked at one another, fear struck. A few of them melted from their seats to the floor under the table, just to avoid their Boss’ eye contact. Stickler slowly put her hand down, looking away as well. The imp next up Henchwoman leaned in close trying to keep quiet so the Devil wouldn’t hear.

“I thought you said she didn’t know about the list?”

Too bad she wasn’t quiet enough.

In the matter of seconds, the poor thing was engulfed in flames by the Devil’s pitchfork. Henchwoman stared down at the ashes of what was left of her, horrified.

“Henchwoman.” She heard her Boss behind her, quickly turning around, she cowered in fear. Despite the tender smile, she knew how much of a temper her Boss had. “You knew about Santa’s nice list? And you didn’t tell me… Why?”

“Ehm…” The pudgy demon chose her words very carefully. “It’s not exactly… Your kinda list… Boss…”

“And what is that supposed to mean?” The Devil’s voice darkened as her smile vanished.

“Well Uh… You are… Uh… Kinda… Evil…”

“And are you saying I can’t be evil and be on the nice list?”

“Yeah Boss… That’s exactly what I’m saying…” Henchwoman avoided the Boss’ gaze. “I mean, being kind and nice is kinda the opposite of bein evil…”

The low growl that came from her Boss behind her made her skin crawl, though, rather unexpectedly was the sound of her heeled footsteps walking away. Henchwoman finally looked back at her Boss, blinking.

“Where are you going?”

“To get my name on the nice list.” The Devil turned to face the group. “And on this hour of Christmas Eve there’s only one person who can do that.” She tapped her pitchforks to the ground and disappeared in a cloud of smoke. As relieved as Henchwoman was about the fact that her boss wasn’t going to incinerate her nor the other imps and demons she hadn’t already- the purple demon had a bad feeling in her gut.

She didn’t quite know what it was, but she knew the Boss was getting herself into a bad situation.

For the dark world design things, I like the sprite where they all become kids but like, did this take place earlier or they all just be like Chara and tranform into their younger self?

Because both didn't really make sense since if it's the first, the story would ended earlier and you have to redraw the arc after to make them younger which probably isn't good for uhh, time probably, or Chara thought after this adventure like, few years later after it ended which isn't realistic, if it's the latter then that mean all of them want to be younger... which probabpy isn't that unrealistic but it would make Chara's situation not unique or special to their situation or whatever, or it mean the dark world work different... which is possible actually but why would G man make a world that make everyone that get in it become superpowered children, what if younger kid or adult get in?

Or maybe they all got in before as a kid and this is the sprite for that, or you just make the younger design as a joke or because you want and I overthink it

NAH you're fine lmao sorry i should of clarified this. i'm still unsure about it.

my logic was chara made the darkworld so it's influenced by their desire -but you're right, the outfits themselves seem separate from that. it's more customized to the individual, same as how Ralsei's castle and Queen's mansions become personalized. The world itself is influenced by Noelle (I assume she accidently made it? but also Kris could of been the one to do so... the world fits Noelle more) And becoming a kid is A Thing with Noelle for like, 1 second, so this isn't even out of the realm of possiblities.

And ALSO yeah, this world is (probably) made from a gaster fragment or at least houses one, it's separate from Deltarune the game and it's canon. I'm not even sure this IS a darkworld or if it's a simulation of one. (maybe the CORE secretly powers a pocket universe that Gaster made? that Chara accidently connects to and drags the gang into)

Actually i was about to do a write up of pros/cons but i realized making them all kids is a bad idea. it just doesn't work.

cause like, I wanted them all to be kids to keep it consistent between them, but you're right it makes it less special/shocking when chara is Baby. (thinking this time around, we follow Frisk first and then meet with Chara.) anyway i wanted this because the main conflict is that Chara is wanting to force everyone to relive the past, so making Frisk a Baby and relieve their memories isn't a happy thing like it is to Chara.

BUT that happens when Chara True Resets anyway! I feel that'd lose a LOT of significance because we get used to Frisk being a teenager by the time we get to that story point. Also like, the reverse makes a fun effect of "oh YEAH Chara is a teenager! I got used to baby chara again!"

so yeah. i can't justify it and it lessens plot/thematic elements. Plus, its too repetive, even if I think it'd make it more clear what Frisk's problem with reliving the past is like

actually, I can do that with the reset thign too. Cause Frisk HATED being attacked by monsters and Chara's kinda forgotten about that since. So I'm gonna show them fight a lil before they confront Flowey.

Frisk's bard aspect (which like, is based on how I introduced teenage frisk with Vocaloid, this outfit is loosely inspired by that)

Anyway I need to establish more of their story BUT I think the designs should reflect them more (like you pointed out!) like, originally, Frisk was going to have this side plot over befriending Suzy (their universe version of Susie) that was, sadly, dropped because Susie was stuck with Kris and it made more sense for Chara to stay away from Frisk after the DW adventure (cause Chara broke their promise)

BUT now i have the chance to actually explore that! So now, Frisk takes the adventure with MK to be a fun game and a chance to befriend Suzy. I really want Frisk's adventure to be separate from Chara's journey, because Frisk being mopey was Defs over done in the OG, and it makes it more impactful when Frisk gets upset if they're more happy the rest of the time.

Frisk still hates fighting (god. i'm gonna have to design a bunch of enemies...) but since they're not alone (and being haunted by chara), they don't mind it nearly as much. the Vibes of Deltarune (where most enemies just want to capture you) vs. UT (where most enemies are trying to kill you) are so drastically different. Frisk would be SO happy about this change.

Bonus content: heres the super speed summary of how I struggled through the dinluke big bang piece I started over 80 days ago! More thoughts and details on my process below to cut

- Overall wanna post this with all the flaws galore for my future self, not at all because I've just left the record function on, forgot about it and now I have this!

- Good reminder that the worst thing is blank paper and just getting something down okay, rough simple lines convey ideas its all good!

- Drawing on an airplane produces questionable results (the first more refined lines, not NEARLY enough references in use)

- Speaking of, never regretted following a reference over trying to improvise. I feel like it always looks better (that smoke is one good example!)

- Redrawing and redrawing sometimes is so worth it, other times you should just let it be and move on (those first trees before the yellow dotting were kinda okay honestly!)

- Less all sorts of different brushes is better, for consistency :')

- Theres many parts I'd forgotten that in hindsight maybe look better than the end result (like overall composition being bigger and with better feeling of space) but choices were made and I gotta choose to be happy with and proud of the completed piece, afterall its better than all the dusty never finished wips.

- Definitely didn't quite follow the big bang deadlines, I'm sorry :') in general I'd consider that greyscale to be 20% sure (proof of idea and a layout figured out!) But hilariously after what I posted for even 80% I went and redid all that work. (Maybe its not actually totally redoing if you're making the same just improved! All the ground work took its own time and I wasn't starting from scratch at all.)

- At the very end it gets abruptly cut off, despite asking the program to leave on the last frame for a bit... Then I remembered the panic I had just yesterday, because the file for these screenshots took up too much disk space and caused Krita to crash, losing all the progress of like good bit of little adjustments and corrections. I guess I never turned the recording back on, so the very final few hours are missing, but thats okay! This is not professional! (Spot the absolutely tiny differences with the final image posted :p)

-Also realizing after many a rewatch, there's been some glitch with it not recording me recolouring the characters entirely!! How sad, but you can see the difference from when they pop up around the time I'm redoing the trees and at 02.53 and when they return all redone at 03.07

- Theres a lot I don't love, theres a lot that could be better if done differently, but I really have to start being okay with being done rather than perfect!

- Really proud of myself for dedicating to doing a more involved and detailed background/scene than i've ever done before digitally. I've pushed beyond my comfort zone of just characters with a hint of a background, it will get better from here!

- Did I need to post this with all sorts of bits missing? No, definitely not, but hopefully someone will find this interesting, and my future self feels that this was helpful!

You may have probably already drew some but I feel like after seeing you redrawing SU moments with Dragon Ball characters and Gohan in Steven's moments, I feel like you're going to draw the pink steven moments with Super Saiyan 2 Gohan and Vegeta in Jasper's place because why not? Lol.

umm context under the read more if you wanna read that 'cause i'll prolly won't do anything with this anytime soon, but here's my thought process/headcanon

edit: i feel like rambling a bit so here we go. Context: 7 years timeskip, obv. Vegeta is super depressed and lost without kakarot, he basically ignores his family and just stays quiet in his room alone, beating himself up in GR or just hanging out in lonely places (but unlike piccolo he doesnt actually get any benefit from it lol). On the other hand, Gohan is grieving, deeply, he can't help but feel he's responsible for Goku's death, even if he knows it's wrong and no one blames him (except vegeta maybe?? I can see Vegeta blaming everyone to try and ignore how its HIS fault too). Gohan's also struggling with ssj2, turns out 10 yos with atlas complex should NOT be more powerful than all the adults around them [oh, hey steven, how are you?].

So uhhhh Vegeta's desperate for combat and blood and saiyan goodness, so when Gohan comes visit him to check on him for whatever reason (maybe make sure he doesnt hurt bulma/trunks), he goads him into combat. He specifically goads for the SSJ2, bc of course he does, and enjoys every bloody moment of gohan pushing him back with full power. Finally, another challenge, if Freeza and Kakarot are gone, he WILL surpass this brat. But Gohan, who is the mature adult in this conversation, puts an end to it and refuses to actually fight him to the end. period. This silly pantomime where he pretends to be Goku will end in nothing but misery for both of them. Gohan sees in Vegeta what obsessing over his power and his dad's death will do to him, so he makes the choice to find a way to leave it all behind. He doesn't care about power or legacy, he cares about finally living in a hard-earned peace. Finally ENJOYING life, for what seems like the first time in his life.

Ok so the fight's over. Gohan says sth painfully true about how sad and pitiful vegeta's become/acting. Then he leaves to spend time with his family, the people he loves and is loved by. Some weeks later he overhears his mom talking with Bulma, who's surprised by Vegeta actually letting himself be seen around the house and at least allows Trunks into the GR, not knowing what prompted the change. Gohan is mildly pleased that the confrontation wasnt worth nothing. How he feels about it is undecided cause i didnt care to think that far ahead lol. Maybe he'd try to focus on himself for once, he seemed pretty happy in Buu saga after all.

maybe i should redraw my old art bc i looked at some last night and yikes

apparently i only recently discovered decent anatomy/proportions and that was via mostly guesture poses

i have recently been shown the way of shapes and im watching a lot of character design and redesign stuff along with my hermitcraft

i never really got into miraculous ladybug but for some reason watching people tear into it and redesign the characters tends to pull me in like a moth to a light

it's funny bc i have no investment in what people are complaining about but im interested in how they make things better/different

also taking notes on what not to do so

i wish i could draw my characters, a good chunk are robots and hard to design, 90% of the rest of them are homemade fantasy races/species i have to actually conceptualize, and then the humans are kinda just there

bc i do have humans there just arent a ton bc i must make everything hard for myself

dw its fun for me it just takes a long time to actually hammer out

i wanna talk more about them but im thinking of better ways to actually organize my thoughts that just vomiting words on a page that no one will see anyway

it's gonna take some tome to figure out this place

maybe ill make separate blogs for original and fandom stuff idk ill explore the features more and get back to
