How do you think game Rouge would react to Dread?
all out war. god can you imagine. dread has a very pretty, very shiny rock that rouge would want. desperately. I think dread is less susceptible to emotional manipulation, at least the the same type of manipulation that rouge uses on regular knuckles, and also is a lot more unhinged. they are constantly getting into fights and playing keep away with the shard and pulling off elaborate and insane heists

I don't know if you knew this before, but post-crisis Ares and Circe had a daughter called Lyta. She was eventually taken to be raised by the Amazons but pretty much vanished after the Jiminez run. She also had purple hair.
DC could probably have had their own version of Descendants with how many kid heroes with villain parents they created.
yes!! she's another one of those characters that's just one big, incredibly frustrating missed opportunity. the setup with her was fantastic, and i would absolutely kill to know what the plan was there because it's always seemed like rucka had at least a vague idea of something in mind
the fact that this is the last we ever see of her??
Tumblr media
(Wonder Woman (1987) #218)
like pleaseeee. WHERE was this meant to go?? because i seriously doubt it was to 3 years of radio silence & then a couple random throwaway lines in Amazons Attack, of all things, to sweep it under the rug and end it before it could even begin
there's way less to suggest it being the case with her than there was with chris & damian imo, but i can't help but wonder if the flood of hero-adopted villain kids from 2005-2007 wasn't somewhat intentional?
that would've been such a cool, actually unique theme for a "next gen" trinity to have, and i mourn the fact that they either decided not to follow through with it or (if it wasn't intentional) somehow failed to notice or take advantage of this massive opportunity that just fell into their laps every single day 😭

When it comes to Wally's death, I get why it bothers people and I kind of wish it didn't happen myself. At the same time, I do think they did it in the most respectful and earnest way possible, and respect that they don't make death a joke the same way the comics have.
tbh, not making a characters death a joke is the bare minimum. wallys death in yj still does not have any semblance of foreshadowing, build up, lasting implications beyond a couple characters changing their costumes, etc. all for a guy that played a major role in the first season. its extremely uneventful, which makes it feel not planned, just one more added stake to get viewers interested.

May I ask your thoughts on Lords of Shadow Dracula?
Oh, I love him.
joipegr For as much shit as I give any sympathetic take on Dracula, this was one that I could stand. Mostly because of the circumstances. At least the creators divorced him so much from the original Castlevania Dracula that it feels earned. And, obviously, he's so far removed from Book Dracula that it's redundant to even point it out. They don't even call him Dracula, they call him Dracul.
So, Gabriel Belmont, right? He's in this thing called the Brotherhood of Light-- they're kind of morally grey despite the name. He's trying to defeat the Lords of Shadow so he'll be able to resurrect his dead wife who is stuck in limbo. Totally fair. See, some fantasy men lose their wives and they know how to be pragmatic about it. But it turns out that he actually can't resurrect his wife, whoops. So he takes up the name Dracul and ends up becoming the Prince of Darkness. The vibe is sort of that, no matter what, there need to be dark forces in the world they're living in, and Gabriel is the man for the job because he can keep the rest of them in check.
I think Protagonist Dracula works in Lords of Shadow because he's a Belmont in both name and function. We're rooting for him because he's gonna kill Satan, not God. In fact, he's God's silly little guy, God loves him and that's why prayer and stuff don't harm him.
It's similar, but of course not perfectly so, to Soma Cruz- the final reincarnation of Dracula in the original Castlevania timeline. In Aria and Dawn of Sorrow, he fights through an evil castle just like the Belmonts do all with the goal of preventing some cultists from turning him or some other dude into Dracula.
Compare all this to Netflixvania Dracula, who is played in too sympathetic of a light for any of his actions to feel in character. He's not evil enough, he's just a sad little man who wants to take the entire world out with him, and that's just pathetic. You watch him and his sulking and think "babe, if you want to die that bad, just do it". And then he does. He forces his son to kill him in the least climactic death ever. Boring. Why couldn't you have just died earlier, old man?

Could you elaborate more on Ada being traumatized in RE6?
Yes
Tumblr media
spoilers for a game that came out in 2012... :|
By the time it's re6, it's clear that there's been a lot of things going on. Simmons had been killing thousands of women. Not even to get Ada. Just someone that looks like Ada. Her rejection of him, and his obsession of her caused thousands of women to die as he experimented on them to get them to become clones of Ada. None succeeded until Carla.
(Also we do not victim blame here, NO, Ada shouldn't have, "just been with Simmons," to prevent this from happening. We blame Simmons, and we partially blame Carla as she's a victim of Simmons as well.)
When Carla is unleashed, she wants to infect the world. Using Ada's name as her alias to get away with it. Using Ada's face for all of Carla's crimes. While still posing as Ada, she kills Chris's team almost twice. Under all of this, Ada is still trying to work in the shadows, clearing her name where she can. Trying to do good when she can. She saves civilians and Sherry and Jake. She saves Leon and Helena. She tries to stop Carla and Simmons.
By the time we get towards the end, the BSAA already has "Ada" listed with all of Carla's crimes, hunting her down until she's killed as well. We see Ada finally seeing "herself," seeing what became of Carla. All because one man was so obsessed with her.
But I think the pivotal moment is in the ending. She goes to the office/facility to get rid of all of the evidence of Simmons and Carla's work. But also seeing the form growing in it's pod.
"We're beyond sympathy at this point. We're beyond humanity."
She destroys the pod. She destroys the facility. That nothing good will ever come from this. That both sides of the coin have worked with bioweapons and more to get the upper hand. No one is innocent and no one is clean from bloodshed. We know this with how infinite darkness plays out as well.
We hardly see Ada struggling. We don't see her as a victim even though she is. And I really want to see more of it. How does she deal with EVERYTHING that happened to her in re6.

You heard about Ada Wong's new voice actress being harassed?
No, but after a cursory search on the subject, I can't say I'm really surprised.
Sounds like the usual doldrums of racism, and in specific, anti-Asian racism. Lily Gao (Welcome to Racoon City's Ada Wong), who might be the first Asian actress to actually voice act for Ada, isn't doing what I would call a "stilted" or even "horrible" job. I don't even think she's been given bad direction.
I like her performance better than the previous voice actor, Jolene Anderson (RE2R). For me, Ada just sounds like an incredibly guarded and controlled (or closed-off) woman. She's more "secret agent (dragon lady)" than a "sultry sexy secret agent (dragon lady)... in a red dress". She also doesn't have the same history (or romance) with Leon S. Kennedy, so, of course, her whole demeanor is going to be different.
(If I could complain about anyone, I feel like Leon's voice actor, Nick Apostolides, is doing his best to imitate RE4's Paul Mercier, something I've said about RE6's Paul Mercer as well.)
This is the video gaming community we're talking about, and specifically, the Resident Evil fandom - which has a pretty storied history of racism when it comes to the franchise's non-white characters (and actors). When Resident Evil 5 came out, one of the complaints lobbied at Sheva's voice actor (Karen Dyer) was that she was "awful" and "annoying".
The sticking point (or motivation behind) the harassment here is that I suspect that Gao is simply just not Sally Cahill (Ada Wong from RE2C to Darkside Chronicles). This was also something RE fandom gnashed their teeth about in the RE2 remake (which IIRC, used non-union actors).
Things also aren't helped by the fact that there's a pre-existing subset of [OG] RE4 die-hards that are against the remake on principle, so, of course, they're lashing out at the Asian actress.
The accessibility of actors on social media is the only thing different about Gao and Dyer's circumstances, and perhaps, the mainstream visibility of fandom itself. I can imagine Gao's harassment going under the radar or outright ignored if this happened in 2009.
I'm not all that interested in boiling this down to a moment of "fandom was a mistake", because this is a very specific behavior (racism) that extends beyond the chambers of gaming fandom and exists also in gaming media.
It sucks that Gao has to deal with this.

If you don't mind, how exactly is Ashley in the remake a perfect victim? Also, I think you mentioned something about her being oddly patriotic in the remake once. Could you elaborate on that also, if you did?
Of course I will take any excuse to talk abt Ashley at length (and any excuse to criticize re4make lmao) Long meta under the cut
Basically when I say that remake Ashley is a “perfect victim” I mean that she is written in such a way that she is exactly sympathetic to the audience without anything negative about her for maximum sympathy points. This is especially true when you compare her to her characterization in the original.
In og re4 Ashley is a scared, kidnapped 20 year old. She screams for help when she gets kidnapped because that’s a game mechanic and the whole point of the game is to rescue and keep Ashley safe. But her scream was “annoying” or “obnoxious” to a lot of players (which, like, skill issue? I played 4 and would only hear her scream once or twice per action scene she was present for, because keeping her safe was my priority. That’s literally the point) Ashley also feels and looks young in the original, which is true. She’s 20 years old. That’s not that much time to be an adult, especially for a girl who’s likely been very sheltered since she was at least 16 (when her dad became president) if not her entire life. She’s scared. She’s going to react to her feelings of fear when she sees herself coughing up blood, or hesitate before jumping off a ledge. But fans saw that as her being childish (again, she is only 20) She’s also sexualized by Luis (and the player if they decide to be a creep) and rightfully has an angry/disturbed reaction to it. But fans saw that as her being “bitchy” instead of a justified reaction. You’re supposed to fear for Ashley’s safety. She’s vulnerable. Your purpose is to protect her. But people would talk at length about how much they wanted to harm and kill her because she was annoying, or had poorly written dialogue they didn’t like, or because she was childish, or she got in the way of the gameplay (again, skill issue) or, above all, she didn’t “deserve” to get rescued.
So for the remake, they decided to adjust her. And I do think adjustments were necessary! They could’ve made her outfit more practical (they didn’t) they could’ve reworked some of her mechanics for the new style of gameplay (they did) and they could change moments of dialogue and game mechanics to be less creepy towards her (they did thank fucking gd) but the other changes? Were unnecessary and actively focused solely on endearing her to the player, which left her a shell of a character and a perfect victim with nothing to her as a person. She’s a textbook prop character.
Starting with her appearance, they did my girl so fucking dirty in the remake. In the original she’s clearly meant to be young, with her soft, makeup-less face and outfit that looks pulled out of a Tiger Beat issue (I’ve compared her outfit to 2000s Ashley Tisdale, which I think might’ve been inspiration for her but I can’t say for certain) but the remake ignores that. Instead they decide to make her look much older, and it blows. They give her a full face of makeup (like they do for all their women nowadays but w/e) and a hairstyle that covers her ears (because apparently people found her ears in the original unattractive???) they give her fucking BLUE EYES which makes no gd damn sense as she had brown eyes in the original, they give her an ugly orange blazer to wear overtop of her classic outfit which is something a 20 year old college student in the early 2000s would never wear to a party, I don’t care who she is, they give her tights under her plaid skirt when they could’ve just given her pants (they should’ve given her her beta outfit, honestly, but they didn’t) and an eagle pin and eagle necklace because get it? She’s Baby Eagle, she’s the daughter of the president. That’s her only fucking character trait, “President’s Daughter” (that kinda bleeds into my “she’s annoyingly patriotic now” thing but I’ll get back to that) So Ashley looks way older than 20 now, which is disappointing. They could’ve really leaned into how young and innocent and scared she looks if they wanted her to look like an actual 20 year old in 2004 instead of a 20 year old Instagram influencer in 2022 (who they actually based her face on)
But not only does she look more mature, she acts like it too. She’s quieter now, doesn’t scream for you every time she gets kidnapped, instead there’s an on-screen visual indicator as to how Ashley’s doing, which I do think is a better game mechanic (I might just be a very visual person lol) but the only reason they did that was because fans of the original wouldn’t shut up about how annoying her screaming was. In the remake, aside from some of the darker cutscenes, the only time Ashley cries out in genuine sounding fear is when Leon himself gets critically injured. The only time she’s allowed to show real fear is when she’s caring about you, the player. It rubs me the wrong way. She also doesn’t kick and scream as much when being picked up, and instead of dying, mostly, she just gets knocked to the ground and you have to pick her up, and when you ask her if she’s okay, she meekly says yes.
She’s also “more useful” when she Does Not Need To Be. She puts out the fire on Leon after the Mendez fight. She helps Leon turn cranks in the castle. She doesn’t need to be given herbs for healing anymore, so she’s less of a “burden” to you and your limited resources. She takes the Plaga out of Leon’s chest (like she did in the original) (but it’s offscreen for some reason?) She’s also your hype man! She’s constantly telling you how cool you are and how impressed with you she is and how great you’re doing in the gun range and how she wishes she could be like you. Like okay I guess, but if you pay attention, her dialogue almost never talks about herself, it’s about Leon or the situation they’re in. She, like the game itself, never considers herself first. Which is ridiculous, since she’s the focus of the entire gd damn game.
They amp up the torture she and Leon go through, which I honestly like, I think the og was lacking some in the horror department with the concept of an infection that slowly takes over the mind and body of those infected, it at times felt more silly than scary, like their irises physically turning red. So I think the changes to make it more terrifying are welcome, and man are they terrifying. Ashley is stripped of her coat and scarf and has that black goop stuff forced down her throat with symbols painted on her face. It’s tough to watch. But the scene makes you feel more for her so it did its job.
Ashley being separated from Leon also isn’t her fault this time around, so you can be more sympathetic towards her. Instead of panicking and running away and being separated from Leon, this time her mind is taken over by Saddler, which separates her from Leon. See, it’s not her fault! Her mind was taken over! So there’s nothing to angrily blame her for <3
The reason I’m so furious that remake Ashley is a perfect victim is because they felt the need to make her a perfect victim. Plenty of people, myself included, played the og and LOVED Ashley, she was a cute character with some funny lines and moments and she was endearing, like a little sister to Leon. But because of the toxic male gamer space at the time and the large distaste for victims who are imperfect, those who yell and get angry and are too loud or obnoxious, the makers of the remake felt obligated to make her more endearing to the player, so you would have a REASON to sympathize with Ashley. Which we didn’t need! She’s a 20 year old whose been kidnapped! That itself should be enough of a reason to feel for her! But the remake has to play up her endearment to the player, make her not scream too much, not make her imperfect or too loud or too angry or too obnoxious, just a prop character who’s here to make you feel good about what a good job you’re doing and who’s physically attractive and thus you’re programmed to like her. It’s fucking exhausting and annoying is what it is.
Despite how it looks, I’m not a 100% re4make Ashley hater. I think they DID improve upon things that needed to be improved, mainly how she was treated by the narrative. Now she hides in lockers instead of dumpsters (it doesn’t happen much but still) and the game doesn’t grossly sexualize her, and the devs were clear that they wanted nothing romantic between her and Leon, and they did improve upon some mechanics, like I said I like the visual indicator that Ashley’s been kidnapped because it actually shows you where she is instead of you having to listen for where she is or look around a group of 10 enemies to find the one carrying her. There was just SO much potential to have Ashley be a really good CHARACTER, but the team was so focused on making her palatable, they forgot to give her any semblance of a personality.
(Oh and while we’re here, another reason I hate her lack of character/personality is because they WERE able to give character and personality to other characters, i.e. Luis, Krauser, and fucking Salazar, but not to the woman who’s the main focus of the fucking game. Beats me)
Okay now for the patriotic stuff. I fucking hate it lol. Og RE4 was willing to talk negatively about the American government, which was interesting! This game came out during Bush’s presidency and the war on Terror. There was a genuine disdain for America from other countries, hence why the villains in the original were so anti-American and their plan revolves around making sure “America won’t think they can control the rest of the world” and all that. It’s INTERESTING. The problem is that America is so far up its own ass now, that people would likely boycott or dislike a game with an anti-American sentiment in it. Which is actually such bullshit for RE4, by the way? The VILLAINS are the anti-American foreigners, you play as an American hero. If they were so worried about the game coming across as anti-American, just point out that it’s the VILLAINS who have that point of view, and you’re good. There was no reason to hide the anti-American sentiment the villains have as much as they did in the remake.
Ashley furthers this idea that the game can’t be mean to America by being annoyingly patriotic. There was NONE of this in the original, btw. Her father was the president, and she wanted to go home. That was it. Now, she has a line where she tells Leon she would like to become an agent like him, saying “We can protect the U.S. from any and all threats” like boooooo that’s so lame. Like I said, her necklace and pin are both eagles. There’s no character reason for that, it’s just because she’s the president’s daughter, and an eagle is a symbol of America. Also Leon later jokingly says to her, “keep this up and I’ll be out of a job,” furthering the idea that Ashley, upon seeing a cool badass American soldier, is just smitten with the idea of becoming one herself. She’s an insert for all the people watching/playing who are the reason Call of Duty keeps making games, hoping it’s username will sign up for the military. It’s a tool for propaganda. ASHLEY is a tool for propaganda. It’s completely stupid

Is it me or do some fans scapegoat Ada for Capcom not doing anything else with the RE female characters? Even though Ada isn't even allowed to appear in media without Leon (and even then, she doesn't always appear with him).
I wouldn't say it's just you, but I would say the latest Resident Evil content this year is stirring a pot much faster than when RE7 dropped when it comes to how they handle these characters and the franchise as a whole. They want to make everything more serious. They want to pander to certain groups of fans when it comes to character direction. They're trying to bring back the horror without understanding the spikes of comedy and cheesiness whether or not they were accidental is what makes the series so iconic, but that's a slightly different conversation. So, let's focus on Ada.
Listen. Ada has always been a character in a precarious situation when it comes to fandom. There's a lot of "interesting" qwhite people who love Leon so much they see her as a personal threat with their misogyny. She's a visible woman of color, which gets her hit with the racism. She's allegedly Chinese, as she could also be Taiwanese or Cantonese, or a different ethnicity since we don't even know her real name, so she gets hit with xenophobia overseas. She's also not a "nice" person who babies Leon, so she gets hit with the double misogyny from those same "interesting" qwhite people who never draw Leon with brown hair even though that's his canonical hair color. She's a woman so showing her as capable without the sexiness slapped onto her makes her "ugly" and makes the 3% of fans who yell about it the loudest cry and scream so much that Capcom will rope it back into her character however they can.
Then we have current fandom itself, and how it's changed, and how it's not changed at all. I saw a post I can't find at the moment stating the current waves of fandom have this new pattern with people who don't want to seem like they're misogynist or sexist, so they'll say the women characters are great and then do nothing for them. No rambling about them. Barely any fanart. Very little headcanons. The tiniest amount of fanfic, and if they get any of these things there has to be a male character the artist clearly favorites in the spotlight of the piece. The pieces of art that are women focused get half as much attention as the male focused pieces. Those same fandom pieces get 1/4 of that attention when the characters are visible women of color not at their sexiest, cutest, or palest form. The original poster I spoke of was obviously right. If you don't believe me, look at how many notes any "good" Leon post gets compared to the other women, and you'll start to see a pattern very quickly.
Ada is the easiest to vilify because fandom always hates "mean" women, women of color, and women point blank. Hell, the racist's vitriol was so bad they removed Sheva from various editions of the game cover of RE5 and left it as Chris or put Jill there when you can only play with her in the DLC. It doesn't help with how Ada's writing is handled over the years, that fandom loves to put her on a proverbial stake saying she took attention or a possible role from Claire, or Jill, or even Rebecca now that she's getting more attention. But they'll more loudly say how Ada is taking attention from Piers, or Luis, or even fucking Birkin. It's not entirely about how they diss and scapegoat Ada, it's the bullshit all around the diss they're making. It's about who they would personally slot in to replace her or any woman character, and why they would do that which speaks the loudest to me. If you pay attention, you'll see what wavelength their brains are running on when they drop that nonsense.
Now hear me out. I came into Resident Evil after watching all of Lupin III. Quick summary, it's an old manga that got an anime in the early 70s, and is still getting remade today about a group of thieves who steal expensive shit.
There's only 1 woman in the main recurring cast, Fujiko Mine, and since everyone has a gimmick, her's is sex appeal and that there's a 50/50 chance she'll steal the treasure from the group of men for herself at the end. No matter how many times she does this, Lupin III as a character loves her regardless. He knows that changing her means he'd have to change himself, neither of which would be a good thing, because change doesn't always mean improvement. She has been handled by so many men and a few women writers for the last 50 years I've seen all the possible ways a femme fatale can be written super well and super poorly. And even though she does all of the exact same shit as Lupin does, fans(new fans especially) will still call her a bitch. And I've had to call people out a million times with 1:1 canon comparisons to make them see it's the misogyny glasses they're looking through when they make this judgement about her.
This also means I came in looking at the Leon and Ada relationship from a completely different angle than probably 99% of the active members of the RE fandom on this site. I can see where she's written improperly for the chances she does get to appear, but I can see the potential in it, and I can see and understand how their relationship is structured the way it is. I do believe that Ada having time to herself without Leon in the game or Leon even being a priority is desperately needed for her character. I also think this narrative decision will scapegoat her further because fandom will say that attention should've gone to [Insert Male Character Here] that is an old character brought back or a completely new white guy in his 30s on the side of good who talks to another main dude for about 2 times if that much.
However, if anyone who read this far would like to see who's actually taking all the attention in an RE movie or RE game, feel free to do a tally for how many times each character gets to speak and compare the final numbers when you're done. For the games, repeated lines do not count to make it a little easier.

Sonic swaps powers with a certain character for a day. How does he react, depending on who it is?
This is quite hard to think uhhh, I don't particularly do well with the 'swapping powers' thing lol but let me try.
Sonic and Knuckles: He will punch Knuckles, first thing. Knuckles would try to attack him back but he's not used to the speed and Sonic easily stops him and throws him down before he jumps on him.
Sonic and Blaze: Sonic summons fireballs (some of which he accidentally sends Blaze's way) and Blaze tries to persuade him to stop ir but he, of course, doesn't want to. He finds how to control fire on different parts of his body, his feet, his hands and later on, after trying for a very long time, his quills, but there's one major problem: he doesn't know how to extinguish the fire. So, Blaze has to run a couple of circles around him to extinguish the fire for him in this way.
Sonic and Amy: He would try to summon the piko piko hammer finding out that he cant do that. Amy's super power is strength, so she wont be able to carry the hammer but Sonic will, as soon as Amy tries her best to give it to him. He would try to do those cool tricks Amy did in SA1 resulting in hitting his head a few times. The speed is WAY TOO SLOW for him, he tries to make up for it with those cool tricks.
Sonic and Shadow: Well, not much would change but Sonic would create chaos spears and throw them at Shadow to enrage him. His plan is successful. When they get back to normal, Shadow returns the favor.
That's all I can think of right now!!

Also, worth noting that with exception of Leon and Benford, the characters most directly harmed by Simmons' actions are women (Ada, Carla, Sherry and the Harper sisters).
Yeah. This misogyny is so in your face, but because the delivery of the plot is ass, people choose to ignore it in favor of shitting on the entire game.

May I ask your thoughts on the Wonder Woman characters?
Hello!!Of course,i'll try give a short summary on my feelings for each of the core members!!
Diana:I'm not suuuuper knowledgable on her BUT i have watched The Justice League cartoons and DC Superhero Girls 2019 and i can say for certain that i absolutely love her and she's 100% deserving of her title as one of the most feminist character's ever! She's just really fun to watch and very dynamic :)
Donna:My first and foremost thought on her is that she deserves wayyyy better.Like fr DC keeps erasing her and putting her through torture p*rn and it's just really tireing????Like what did this poor woman do😭😭😭But other than that,i really enjoy her!!Her platonic relathionships are very good and i like her spunk!
Nubia:Black queen i love you so <3 I always get excited when she shows up and she should be used way more!
Cassie:She's used to be my favorite before Artemis took that place!I love tomboys who aren't pick mes my default as someone who was a tomboy as a kid themself so i instantly liked her!Her story is very interesting and so's her personality. Now if only DC hadn't totally retconned both in Teen Titans 2003 because of their misogyny😔
Artemis:And here is my fave!!Love her design, love her attitude, love her powers, love her edge, love her plots, love her in general
Yara:Haven't read much on her yet but i'm very happy to see more darker skinned(in comparison to most other examples that is)latina rep!!She seems nice and i dig her power palette and what i know of her story :]

Do you think the fact media often downplays female characters in comparison to male ones also plays a factor in how female characters are viewed in fandom?
yes but not to the degree a lot of people try to pretend it is. characters of all genders are written badly all of the time! yet when it comes to male characters, so many fans will go through hoops to rewrite them, and find a core to enjoy anyway; just look at the supernatural fandom. however this courtesy is not spared for female characters, instead theyre hated on, or ignored except to criticize the writer. and then even well written female characters have to fight for their fucking lives to be respected lol lets be real

What do you think of Ada having a sibling?
i have a few feelings
ada would've been born in the 70s along with leon, i never really saw her as a younger sister type. if she were to have a younger sister, that would maybe make sense to me? i never saw her to have a younger brother tho
BUT if the younger sibling was born in the 80s, AND her family was in china then the one child policy would've been in place. now, not everyone abided by that law, so it's still possibly for her to have had a sibling. or she could have fled in the 80s to somewhere else like the states or canada lol
i do kinda see her coming up from a rich family... but i also can see her being middle class. all those "origin" stories for her have all been not confirmed as canon so we kinda have to figure out what we want ig
i very much like the idea of ada not really remembering her origins anymore. if she had a family or not. if she were adopted or orphaned. having no ties to family has always made characters be a perfect spy/mercenary or government agent. so i do like the symmetry of ada and leon being both orphaned young
i also have seen things where ada's name was taken from a sibling or childhood friend who was killed so that she would be using a "dead person's name" as opposed to her own.
but also that makes it make less sense sometimes cause if someone really wanted to, they could trace that person back to her. but then again i guess she could allude to the idea that she died instead. (like back when her family died too or something)
i have a lot of thoughts. i think anyone can really write whatever they want for her origins and it could still work. (obviously as long as it's not egregiously incorrect politically and historically and canonically, like don't change that she's not chinese imo)
i've seen some "origin" stories for ada and various fics and i do like bits and pieces of them but i don't think i've found an origin story for ada, for myself that i enjoy enough to write about yet

What are your overall thoughts on Ada Wong as a character?

In general, I like Ada Wong. She's one of the few characters in the Resident Evil series that I call a favorite (the other is Sheva Alomar).
I can't say I ever put too much thought into her character beyond her role as an action girl/super spy, or my frustrations with how Capcom regularly objectifies her (perhaps moreso in RE6 and the RE2 remake). How that plays into her status as the embodiment of the 'Dragon Lady' trope.
But she might be the only character who benefits from a lack of knowledge the audience has access to. The obscurity worked best in the original games because RE2 introduces her as a civilian looking for someone she loves vs. walking around and telegraphing her bidness with a fake FBI fadge (if anything, RE2R made her look worse at her job than competent). And RE4 only reinforces this through her dynamics with Wesker and Krauser, two people she has no allegiance to but works for or with anyway despite their genocidal aims.
The vagueness of her character is part of the fun for me. But it also makes her entire storyline in RE6 pretty awful. When Capcom has the opportunity to expound on Ada's shadiness, they trap her in a quarrel between two (white) mad scientists obsessed with themselves.
Ada's campaign is a lotta things, but I wouldn't say it's about her so much as its padding and a failed attempt to make the game's Kentucky Fried Villain Formidable.
I don't think we need to know a whole lot about Ada. But if Capcom is gonna retread the later games, as they've done now with the RE4 remake, do something more interesting with Ada's campaign in RE6.
